Thanks Da_G

Glad to see you here again. Just as a note, on the 2nd file, the Dump + xip.bin, it looks like the title for the link is 480 X 800 but the files are actually 480 x 640

Would love to stay and chitchat for a while but I just want to take the present and run instead. Off to play.

Thanks

I've got the same problem, must be a package that's causing the Platformrebuilder to fall over. I've tried re-doing the MSXIPKernel (had that problem before) but still don't work. I'll let you know if i crack it :)

the WM653-CE-OS-5-2-28002-DPI-ALL-RESH-ALL-RESV-ALL-LANG-0409-AND-COMMON download, it contains what seems to be duplicates.

OSFiles and OSModules
MediaOSFiles and MediaOSModules
BaseAppsFiles and BaseAppsModules

Does it matter which folders I use?
Should these folders be recmod'ed? If yes then should I just delete the *Modules folders?

..By the way.. does anybody know what COM or WMD or MD or SAM really stand for? And what is each branch really for? In the post below I've noted what I've learnt or noticed so far..

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4841301&postcount=25

..but most of this is just observation after someone tests the ROMs.. are there any official or "unofficial" descriptions what each branch was meant for?

WMD likely stands for Windows Maldives, Maldives being the code name for the 6.5.x development branch. (You'll recall 219xx being MD)

On Post 5 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4268166&postcount=5) I put a list of packages and their descriptions I put together with ivanmmj a few months ago. That should help clear up any confusion :)

Oh, and sorry for leaving NetCF out of the rollup, oops!

Tried to compare the content of the "\28002\SHARED\" folder in the roll-up file with the supposedly the same folders/files in "28002 Dump+xip.bin..." from the first post: (28002 Rollup (http://hotfile.com/dl/17980936/1e265ab/WM653-28002-Rollup-All-Packages.rar.html)and 28002 Dump+xip.bin)
And they appear to be not the same (diff includes missing NetCF in rollup file and a lot of other differences between various existing files in both packs).

Which version is the right one?

Thanks a lot in advance for clarifying this.

When you guys say "not the same" - what is it you mean?

Are you doing a hex compare? If so, of course they wouldn't be the same as they have been reloc'ed in the ROM dump. If you are comparing the sections minus the reloc's, well, they are the same in fact :)

What I meant was that when I run file comparison with Total Commander based on file content I see there are differences. perhaps this is what you call 'hex comparison'.

I was suspecting that there is probably a good reason for the differences, but was not sure in the nature of it and therefore was curious which version can be considered more appropriate for being used in the kitchen. Perhaps the one that has been reloc'ed would be a better choice?
If so which one was reloc'ed? The ones from "28002 Dump+xip.bin..."?
Thanks.

Da_G
19th November 2009, 10:23 PM
Sure.. that type of compare is a hex comparison, but in the case of executables it tells you nothing..

It's just a binary comparison, but the way executables are created, there's reloc data stored throughout the executable, and this data changes any time the executable is relocated.. So you have to discount this data when comparing.. i've been meaning to write a plugin for Beyond Compare to do this (executable comparator) but I haven't gotten around to it :)

If you compare many many of these like I have, you can "see" the reloc data striated throughout the executable, and discount it in your comparison :) But simply looking at the binary comparison (does this file match this file) is not good enough for that, you have to actually compare the hex side by side to see it :)

My guess is that you're running an older device without a native kernel. If that's the case, then you need to read up on rec-moding. You should look at your memory map in your build log and see how many modules are in slot 0 and calculate how much free virtual memory you have. This is likely the issue, and you're going to have lots of problems until you fix it. Check post 2 for more info.

If you are using the rollup, don't include both the Modules and the same named files. IE: OS_MODULES and OS_FILES, choose one or the other (Modules for new NK, files for 6.1 NK).

ummm im very forgetfull lol, you have to delete assiteddialing.dll from phoneredist in the shared\common folder to keep platformrebuilder.exe from crashing

Use E-Natives Showcase 1.1.0 ..in the registry there should be a String called SUITE_PositionFix_WinClasses.. Its should be set to: Manila;RESCO_EXPLORER_CLASS

I've been trying to find a good article to show more about rec-moding. All I know is I have installed an update to the Ervius Kitchen so in the extra buttons I have an Automatic RecMod which reads in a text file of list of modules to pass to recmod. The only information I have found is this:

If you are not using a native 6.5 kernel, make sure the slot0 free memory has at least 20MB (use imgfstodump at your cooked ROM and check the memory map file).

But I don't have imgfstodump or know how to use it. I think for now I'm going to look at the files2recmod.txt and see what modules are in there.

Check the build.txt, it might give you hint.
28002 cooks fine with the EVK.
Possibly you are cooking a file that is already included as module. Check the "warn on overwrite" box. That will show you possible conflicts.

i'm able to cook the new SYS w/o issue also. don't think it's due to the build

if you're using EVK, leave the kitchen open after cooking a rom (don't flash it yet) and take a look at the build log.txt file in the root of your kitchen.

it will give you the memory usage in those slots by doing a little HEX math.

if you're using EVK, leave the kitchen open after cooking a rom (don't flash it yet) and take a look at the build log.txt file in the root of your kitchen.

it will give you the memory usage in those slots by doing a little HEX math.

The build_log shows this for the partitions:

Executing ..\TOOLS\IMGFS\NBMerge with data chunk size = 0x800 and extra chunk size = 0x8
on file OS-new.nb
Partition 0: start sector: 0x00000002, total: 0x0000003e
first used: 0x00000002, used: 0x00000001
Partition 1: start sector: 0x00000040, total: 0x000007c0
first used: 0x00000040, used: 0x000007b7
Partition 2: start sector: 0x00000800, total: 0x0000bd00
first used: 0x00000800, used: 0x0000bcd1

From my math it looks like nothing is really used in 0, but 1 and 2 are very full, is there a good article or post that shows how to move them around?

When I do a recmod to a folder to make it a file, I have a question. Does the module use up these slots or making them into files/executables use up slots?

You are missing the skin/theme/ui for the packages. You need to rearrange the them into correct folders, like this (as the all roll-up packages has not been arranged):

ROM

Battery calibration is simply done by running the battery down completely until the phone shuts off by itself. Then remove the battery, wait 10 seconds, insert again, repeat. If the phone shuts off again in less than a few minutes you're done.remove battery and hold power button for 1minute.then insert battery.dont switch on the phone. plug the charger and recharge the battery fully until the green light is on.then remove battery, hold power buttin for few seconds, insert it and switch on the phone...do this initially once in 3-4months when the phone is new.then once a month after a year to gain maximum battery performance

You shold try to replace the "Metadata" folder in the SYS.
Replace it with a older build or from a WM 6.1 ROM.

I think this will work:

Not sure what kitchen you are using or what device, but you may be missing parts of the boot.rgu file

see if this is in your file at the end...

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\LSOMACORE]
"Index"=dword:00000001
"Prefix"="DRM"
"Dll"="lsomacore.dll"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\L sFilter]
"Order"=dword:00000001
"Dll"="LSFILTER.dll"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Init]
"Launch98"="TimeWizard.exe"

Or remove DRM from your ROM.

I have a question maybe idiot.
I use an oem driver package that has the following appearence:
For example the touch.dll folder:
imageinfo.bin
imageinfo.txt
S000
S001
S002
S003
S004
touch.dll

Why the touch.dll exists inside the touch.dll folder?
Can i delete it?
When i recmod the folder then just the touch.dll file remains.
My rom is ok but this dll inside a moduled folder what is its meaning?

Thanks you guys!!

I have the same problem with PlatformRebuilder. It crashes if I put even a single module in the SYS folder. For example I have this folder "Base_Lang_0409\cespell.dll" in the SYS directory which contains the related files in it. If I start cooking then it crashes, and if I remove the related files in "cespell.dll" folder it goes on with no error.
Do you guys have any solution ?
Thanks in advance.

Used Beyond compare to check sys folders with a working sys. I do this and keep folder structure like for like. Had no problem building 28002, may help!

I think the problem (it was for me) is in GPSID folder. I can't workout why but the GPS works anyway  . I think the drivers must be somewhere else hence the crash (tried searching bu still can't fine them).. Anyway, it works for me now :)

PRB (non-EVK) crashes too. Problem not related to EXT, OEM or XIP as I've already eliminated those. Found a way to get rid of the crash by deleting all the SYS contents! ..... :)

Will try to D/L Da_G's Rollup instead and see if it works!
Downloaded Da_G's Rollup and PRB crash now gone. I suspect extraction problems with the 7zip files from Alexx~ release. I'm using 9.07 beta as older versions extracts 0 size files. Can't figure out what the problem is though since the MSXIPKernel i'm cooking is extracted using the same 7zip version.

Thank you all for the help and sorry for the trouble. :) :(

Have you downloaded the link provided by Alexx~ in 7zip format? That was my problem. Refer to my post above and try to cook uploaded module (ONLY THIS MODULE in the SYS directory) taken from Da_G's rollup ...

I've used Alexx's upload, yeah.
The Da_G's rollup is really too big for me to download.
Is anyone able to provide a mirror for dpi_96 files extracted from Da_G's rollup ?

Thanks.

GPSID: Not used normally anyway, in oem check if you have gpsid_HTC, it is used instead. Cooking M$ GPSID in, just wastes some ROM space.

Files in module folder: In SYS prb uses the module, ignores the file (but only if they are in the same folder), in OEM or EXT (or SYS in different folders), file with same name as module crashes PRB. I ALWAYS clean the dups out. teh penguin's dump sorter is a great tool for this job. If you have both file and module, you don't need to recmod again, just use the file.

Phone stuck at first boot splash: Check your XIP (OEMXipKernal and MSXipKernal) for errors or omissions.

Looks like you need PositionFix - you can get it as part of a package with e-natives Showcase or a standalone package.

Edit : I have been told that MessageEnhancement package does not work with newer builds, don't know if this is related?

I wonder if alexx~'s upload will help with an issue that I found with my QVGA Elf when using Da_G's upload for 28002. When I let the device's backlight dim and then shut off on its own (without use of power button), then it sometimes gets stuck when I turn it back on ---- The screen is black although the backlight is on. Sometimes it will reset instead when I turn it back on.

My WVGA Touch HD doesn't have this problem though. The only differences are the DPI and RESV_RESH files.

If I revert to 23089 then all is fine again on the Elf.

Anyone else have this problem? Honcorrd?

Upon further examination it seems it is not included in the temp\dump dir. I did not have any of the required reg keys so I looked in the dump and none of the files are there? They are are selected to be included? What could cause them not to be included? Using EVK

Honcorrd?

I have same problem in my Touch Diamond. I've used Da_G Rollup package. Any hint or solution? Thanks

If I may be allowed to comment, the same issue was reported by Elf(in) users who downloaded Mr. Makk's previous 2308x builds. I'm not aware if the issue has been resolved but during those times I never had the issue using my cooked ROM with the similar build.

Tried to replicate the issue in this 28002 (Da_G rollup) using either the power or the hangup button to switch power back on and both works. No issue in either kokota's B2 or Trueg's kitchen and both using your MSXIPKernel. Could be related in this new build as I noticed that I now have 2 comm mgr. icons and M2D won't update home weather!

At me the problem with 28002 does not see a flash card

I had the same problem when I went from 2304x to 2305x some time ago. It had something to do with the number of modules in slot 0 (for non 6.5 native kernels). Solution is to recmod some of the modules to get less modules in slot0. In my case I only had to recmod browsingie and adobeflash.

Attached is the fixed app.reg. You also need mxipupdate_office_lang_0409_100.provxml from the build in Office. Anyway, there's bad news. On my attempt to remove "Beta" from the apps title, I found a timebomb message in the mui. Anybody here know how to defuse the timebomb?

Yes, right. In addition, this leads to the inability to exit from Sleep mode.
I do not speak English, so I can not explain ... problem is the fact that the slot 0 gets more modules than they should.
This applies not build 28002 in general, it is only for Rollup.

Sorry, I am not understanding the "Rollup" part clearly... Are you talking about the 200MB file with all the languages and resolutions on the first page?

Do you know how to fix this issue you mention (other than getting a 6.5 kernel, which is not possible for Elf)?

There were 3 Modules directories that had similar "Files" directories (OSModules/OSFiles, BaseAppsModules/BaseAppsFiles and another one). I had removed the Modules and kept the Files versions, but still was getting the sleep mode hang.

Perhaps my issue is different, so far if I remove the lock-screen app I no longer have the sleep mode hang.

EDIT: Ok nevermind, I am getting the hang/reboot again

One thing you guys forgot about Da_G return... send him some beer money for providing us with clean 2 day old releases!
You know it :)
Sure.. that type of compare is a hex comparison, but in the case of executables it tells you nothing..

Id love to see that plug in for beyond compare. That is by far my favorite program :)
Hey aru :)

Yes it does but something is making it pull from the dll. Most likely a reg entry.

I can confirm it is working for me on TP2 with both builds. Seems like I see issues every four or five builds with activesync. Most of the time its my laptop. Usually a reboot of both devices and sometimes playing with the activesync settings will clear it up.

First of all: Thanks a lot for the new build, getting norwegian files has been impossible in the latest builds.

A minor problem though:
The default start page in IE has a problem, clicking favorites or history brings up file explorer (opens windows directory). I'm thinking that this may be a problem because of my language (and placement of files because of that). This has been a problem in all of the latest builds I've tried, does anyone know how to fix this?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

I post files only after I cook with them, I didn't found any issue. Check xip/rom folder. In the posted link, ROM folder is for GENE [ P3400i ], but you can take MSXIPKernel from it under Shared folder.
