I believe that is the case - if you compare all rgu between 23016 and 23022, none of the registry differences are causing the change. it has to be a binary change somewhere.

also, if you use a key remap app like raphkbdconfig (or AEBplus i would assume) , you can map anything you want to "volume up" or "volume down" functions and it will bring up the titlebarlist.

Strange. I thought keypad.dll controlled all buttons, but apparently that isnt the case. Maybe these ROMs are intended for a specific device which doesnt have volume buttons or something.

my understanding is that keypad.dll translates between a hardware keypress and a function sent to the OS so to speak. they seem to have changed the volume up/down functions.

Ok, I took the 21939 files posted By Alexx and consolodated them into a SYS and XIP that are ready to drop right into your kitchen (they were kinda all over the place) this is 0409 Lang and 480x640 196 DPI (since thats what I use) Thought I would post the files for all you guys that want to just drop it into your folders and not waste time with all the sorting! I did look through the shellres.192.dll and it is setup like the older builds (23022,23025) so I belive the 23028 is newer but as that is the test line and the 21XXX is the line closer to RC candidates it may be more stable less beta! what is new in the 23028 MS is trying some new things with the ttitlebar menu and in 23028 they added a folder to the shellres.xxx.dll file to handle the icons and make them look smoother, as a result if you install a custom taskbar icon set yo will not have any of the icons in the zoomed view of the taskbar except for the volume icon! :)

Actually, I haveNO icons since ALL of the icons from the tsowen I am using replace the standard ones :(

On another note:

I posted a VB script over on ppcgeeks that made recmodding files a little easier. Thanks to NightRaven, he has re-written a new app for vb.net. It now runs MUCH quicker. So I am posting it here for everyone to use. The program can be configured to use either nuerecmod.exe OR recmod.exe, just edit the accompanying .config file.

To use: Make sure either recmod.exe or nuerecmod.exe are included in the same folder the exe is in. Make a shortcut to the exe in your "send to" folder. High-light either one or MANY modules fodlers, right click and send to SuperRecMod.exe. Done.

I have a similar problem, don’t use exchange, cannot read sms or emails. The sms won’t do anything. Tap message and nothing happens. Tap email and it marks it as read. I tried cooking a rom with any other packages and still have the problem I go back to 23016 and they work fine.

Don't TSK makers too lol. Need to remake my Taskbar now. Just finished redoing my TSK. Also, the whole background alignment fix thing I posted earlier is NOT needed in 23028. They fixed it, it seems at least.

Restorator, It's the best Icons edited for DLL/MUI's I've found. It allows drag & drop.

side note, usually when i grab consecutive releases, i arrange both in their own folders in an identical structure, and compare the folders with windiff. then i run a filter for *.rgu (or cpr), invert filter, and hide filtered. then i compare the remaining list of rgu's from each build against each other using winmerge. it shows you alot. it sounds like you guys could learn alot about what youre looking for with this method. (but i dont know any way to compare resource files except by hand)

Thankyou & I would think editing the rgu for the Start menu would be you choice. RANK/GROUP/Etc values. Higher RANK # brings to top, Group = 1 means entry is a folder if I remember correctly.

All you need to do is take your old taskbar shellres dll & add the RCData entries to it which can be found in the original 23028 shellres dll. Or just look in my shellres to get that directory. I suggest getting a copy of restorator btw. It is far better than PEExplorer. I just opened both my shellres & the original & dragged the whole rcdata directory from the new dll to my old edited one. Then, I changed some icons in there & bam!, I got a new Taskbar as sceen in my screen shots. The thing that took the longest is finding PNG's for my customized EnlargedTitleBar. Otherwise it will take no more than a minute to edit. I know the feeling about the clock. The Task Manager I'm using works just fine in 23028. It's just ugly having the Icon over the clock.

Is there any way to reduce the size of softkey bar? It just "hide" something there - say, thr "stock" button has been gone when running Tiny Stock Manager. Most likely it was caused by new X or Ok button.

You need to change the Start menu Icon. the one I made is full transparent. the icon is actually part of my background lol. I just put it where it should show up ;-)

The LockScreen CPR's are broken. Something inside them needs to be fixed. If the CPR has Media Player Controls, PaneView tags or the Inkscreen code it will break Lockscreen atm. Those parts of Lockscreen are broken atm. If your build doesn't have the code in the CPR, than something else in the CPR is breaking the Lockscreen. To Unlock your device, get either MobileRegistryEditor or CeRegistryEditor. You can edit your egistry from your pc with them. Then, edit the following registry;

HKLM:Software\Microsoft\Shell\LockScreen

Enable = DWord 1 (Change to DWord 0)

Soft Reset. Once it resets your'll have the old lockscreen & can unlock. Reset that registry to Enable = DWord 1.

This is because they are "broken". My newest Theme in that Thread actually stays selected as it should. It has all registries that are required. The thread describes how to edit the color codes.

You are right. If we edit the official theme using cab editors ( WinCE CAB Manager ) it becomes bad. i.e gray background. :(

I'm working on LG KS20 23025 WWE / French ROMS (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3617267#post3617267).

And I'm facing a problem with the "date and time" menu where GMT location is too large and covers time set area. (see attached picture).
I don't have this issue with WWE ROM, only with 040C. My guess is that it's lang related but don't have a clue how to fix this ?

Looks like there might be a problem with the .mui there, you can look at the forms etc. defined in it with PE Explorer, maybe a simple resize will take care of it. (btw that's a bit of an advanced topic, hacking resources etc. just in case you dont want to get into that) :)

There's a good chance that would be fixed in a future update.

If you're talking about a start menu icon, all icons used by 6.5 start menu are controlled by registry.

System icons are used under cplmain.cpl ( i.e About or Memory ) and exe's are used as MyCpl.cpl ( i.e LongPress EndKey, account Manager, Uploader ).

Get the info about which icon you want to change/set its png. i.e in mine, Backlight comes under MyCpl.cpl -> 2.

Nope, I guess you have understood wrong.

Go into HKLM\ControlPanel\MyCpl\ and see where your icon is. It will be listed here too HKLM\ControlPanel\.

And then after, add the entry into mxipinit_startmenu_001.provxml. If you aren't a cooker. Then simply add into HKLM\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\System. First see how others are listed and linked. :)

Can anyone confirm this for me? I'm having problem where if I finger scroll and then slow down my finger movement, the screen would not scroll until I speed up again or change direction. Then the screen would be updated to where it suppose to be.

BTW, found blank Icon registry for HTC Task Manager lol. This will make the Icon full Transparent. Just click where it should be in Build 23028 to open TM. Tested on QVGA.

I had been playing around with those launcherup and launcherdown values a while back, trying to do some "skinning" of the taskbar icon. I could never quite figure out how it was coded. It kind of appears to be bmp data, but it doesn't work out that way. I eventually gave up. I'm curious how you figured out how this works?

Did you extract the 2 dll's & copy into \windows. Worked just fine for me. Before Fav People would give error in Build 23028. Afterwards, no error 7 updated Fav People. Didn't need to restart CHome or soft reset even.

you can add icons to start menu\settings with png files, and you can tell what cpl number they are by looking in registry on phone or in ext pkgs app.reg for that item. if you look in the htc mega pkgs that da_g posted awhile back, the power.exe pkg has png icons included with it and registry to place them in the right place. here is the registry from that pkg for an example.

Well, as far as i know, the numbers after the name of cpl actually dont matter. They can be assigned anything, if you get the other registry settings right. For example, in my kitchen previously, i was missing all the icons created by MyCPL.cpl coz on my phone's original ROM, icons were used to set by HTCCPL.cpl. I updated my kitchen to use another phone's OEMApps and that phone used MyCPL. For most of the time, i used to create shortcuts in \Windows\Start Menu\Settings folder and they would appear in Settings\System. But later i learned that i can create icons for exe control panel items using the registry and MyCPL.cpl.

Here is how you create an item using mycpl :

1. You need the following registry entry per icon:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\2]
"Group"=dword:00000001

Here the number "2" can be any unused number, and Group sets which tab in the Settings menu your icon should appear, 0 for personal, 1 for System and 2 for Connections

2. Next you must have this kind of entry per icon :

Now this is quiet self explanatory. After having these two settings, your icons will be created.

I dont know how htc created mycpl icons in your phone, but for my older kitchen these are created in mxip_oem_translation_0409.provxml in OEM_Lang_0409 folder using HTCCPL.cpl and in my new kitchen, these are created in file mxip_oem_translation_No_WiFi_0409.provxml in OEMOperators folder. Try finding these files for looking out the number for your icon.

The other thing you can do is do away with this file and create settings yourself as your liking, that's what i did. Remember you can give any number to any icon it wont matter, icons are sorted alphabetically in the menu so the sequence wont affect anything. You can even create more icons then there are by default and hook up any exe to the control panel. In my case, i have hooked Advance Configuration Tool and a few others in my settings menu using mycpl :)

After doing this, i guess you know what to do :) Just create the HKLM\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\ entry for each icon with MyCPL.cpl,number as the target and set its icon.

NP, as for image Distortion. It's the scalestyle. Not sure what value you need. Stretch & Fit will distort rectangle images put into square Image codes of the CPR. Maybe Cover, Center, or Crop; not sure what values work in CHome though.

That is the point, to release the camera driver from RAM if i don't use the camera, Load and unload. i Have it and it running perfectly on my GENE, it can save 4-5Mb RAM. The effect is all third party app that use camera won't work. Camera only work by pressing the button or from start menu.

I don't know it work on other device or no, if you want to try it i will upload the package for you.

It should work if your camera app name is "Camera.exe", Pls check & update the shortcut in the hardware button and start menu.

Use the copy of Restorator I sent you. I think the one you are using is messed up. Your dll was completely stripped. I had to copy all my icons into it. What's really weird is I re-opened it afterwards & the Icons were all White instead of my colored icons.

ATFav People image distortion is a build bug. I just added contact pictures & they are all distorted. They (M$) must have screwed something up in the cmhome.dll with their new changes...

OK... too many pages and the forum's built in thread search doesn't allow you search for three letter words (like CAB or USB) but I'm having a problem with anything I port with the last few releases. Windows 7's "activesync" doesn't see the phone (although it installs the driver for the USB connection for it) and when I click on cab files, NOTHING happens. Is anyone else having this problem? (Mind you, I created a new build from SCRATCH with 13 different languages and I tried it with my older builds and I STILL can't get it to work, so it has to be something in the SYS. When I said that I had converted files to modules, I was referring to the standard browsing** and adobe folders, but not what you are referring to.

It's because whoever dumped that sys wasn't paying attention. This has happened on a few other sys builds as well. I remember it happened on 21820 when it first came out, and also Miri's latest sys release. It will happen in the VK, if you don't remove or rename recmod.exe in the imgfs folder when dumping.

I tediously removed all the files from one of my sys builds that had that issue, but now I just don't worry about it, since everything seems to build fine anyway. I am curious as to how the kitchen deals with this though during building.

If you don't mind using my dirty tool, here's an app I wrote in 5 minutes to delete files inside the modules. Just click browse and select the folder which you want the search to begin. You can also copy paste the path directly into the textbox. Then click Fix. It's a little slow because I programmed it to do 2 things. First is to delete files found in modules, and second to find any duplicate files or modules (in term of name). The second feature is the one which is slow.

EDIT: If there is a request, I'll fix it up, else I'll just leave it as it is as it is doing the job I meant it to do.

It is because of bad initflashfiles.dat - I had the same problem even that I have cleaned it to zero bytes and created my own app.dat for kitchen. You must use initflashfiles.dat from OEM ROM for the specified language I guess.

Thanks, thats what I figured. Seen this a lot, hope this little tool below works :) As for how the kitchen deals with it, I would ASSume the file would override the module. Although after cooking 23025 with the same scenario my module count was about the same as other builds :confused:

I suggest getting a copy of restorator btw. It is far better than PEExplorer. I just opened both my shellres & the original & dragged the whole rcdata directory from the new dll to my old edited one. Then, I changed some icons in there & bam!, I got a new Taskbar as sceen in my screen shots.


What version of retorator are you using? Google turned up 2007 U2 but then I also saw 2009 but bome.com only shows 2007.

I dumped it twice from the RUS ROM. It's the right iniflashfiles.dat straight from HTC's official herald rus rom. I don't speak russian so I can't really read it and figure it out, though... I'll look through it, though, and google translate it or something.

If you had it and then it disappeared, yes I have seen that. A soft reset or two and it usually comes back. Have not figured out why it disappears sometimes.

nice, does exactly what's needed.

better option than taking recmod out of imgfs folder as ti appears some of the dlls work better when as files rather than modules. And this is quicker than recmodding the ones I prefer to have as files.
Now all I need is an app to select a folder and get rid of the module but keep the file from inside and I'm set :D

Just a note,

When you have recmod.exe in the imgfs folder, imgfstodump calls it automatically for every module it dumps.

Note that these are still added to the ROM as modules (check the imgfsfromdump output) - the file is there purely for reference.

It's much easier to use the script I wrote a while back to automagically recmod all the modules in a package, or the vbscript that has also been posted since then. :)

For folks interested in the virtual memory discussion, and the tools to dump your memory profile and to look at the virtual memory graphically, I've put together a cab with the three programs mentioned earlier (virtualmemory.exe, dumpmem.exe and DevHealth.exe). I shoved icons into the latter two (Pry icons from iconpedia.com), and the shortcuts go to a folder called VM Suite in program files and in the start menu (with a Pry folder icon).

I'll dig up the links in a bit to the programs.

Edit: the cab sucks, just tested it, lol. Will fix.

Ivan, when I ported the 23016 build, I had no problems with CAB's or themes, or anything. It's something your SuperJustKitchen is doing. It's not build related. I'm pretty sure about that, because I did nothing but port the 23016, and it worked out of the box.

i had this same problem with most of the 230xx builds. just replace the shell folder with one from a working build and your good. it has to be one with the new features though.

anyone managed to get 23028 to boot on the hermes yet. been working on it all day but with no luck :mad: same with 23025.

So it was ported to another device already. For all we know, they fixed any bugs they had found already. Can anyone who used THIS dump tell me if the bug is in my ROM or in this build?

I took two OEMs. BOTH of them allow me to install cabs and sync with activesync just fine with all my 6.1 builds and with my older 6.5 builds but neither lets me install CABs or sync with activesync with the 21016 and 23028 biulds that were released in this thread.

And if wifi icon disappears, wifi doesn't connect. It usually happens in our wizard but after softreboot, it should come back/appear but in 23028 it isn't. :confused:

Thats the last problem to solve before releasing 23028 ROM. :o


Edit: I guess I got it. It was due to SDHC Patch that I used and it was crashing the wifi bootup. :p

Well as for as I tested (Opening numerious apps/running cmulticlock change ampm type/etc), I am not seeing the alternating big/small images anymore.

Changed CMultiClock CPR layout for images. I removed the Clip="False" & added ScalingAlgorithm="TriLinear".

EDIT: It still does the Big Small alternating image things, but happens much less now. It acts more like the older builds, which did it as well. Not a perfect fix, but better than almost always seing this bug.

As for ATFavPeople, it's either the location of the image or Formating issue of the image I think. The images I add to a contact are messed up, but the default (No Contact Icon) image is just fine. Maybe because most Images people use for contacts are JPG or BMP's. I'll try conevrting them all to PNG & see what happens. Second step, putting them in \Windows\ Directory if the PNG step doesn't work.

Ok, finally got my Contact Picture to work. The ATFavPeople automatically reformats your Contact Picture it's getting from the Contact Card & changes it to a JPG found in AppData\ATFavPeople. There's some formating issue it does that CHome does not like. The only work around is to, manually enter the file paths into the Registry for each Contact to your original unedited images. Anytime you edit your contacts you'll have to re-edit the registry.

If for what ever reason a image still does not display properly. Open it with MS Paint on your PC & resave it. That'll undo what ever the format issue is.

Well... in the 21939 the titanium has the same issue with the plugins so, changing the Chome and its lang etc etc folders from 23016... now i have a fully working titanium in 21939... but i dint try this on 23028... so anybody is mixing folders too?

First you download 23028 XIP/SYS CE OS 5.2.4075 Lang 0409 DPI 192 RESH 480 RESV 640.

Then you download the all DPI files to get your resolution.

whick link has QVGA sys and xip.. when i downloaded this 0409 USA English United States .. it had only SYS files .. there were no xip??.. so which one i need to use?..

You need to download the main 192-480x640 package, that provides a full SYS and XIP (just the wrong dpi/res).

Then you delete the DPI_192 and dpi_192_resh_480_resv_640 folders, and create DPI_96 and dpi_96_resh_240_resv_320 in their place (each containing 0409 and COMMON subfolders.

Then you take the required QVGA sys folders from the 0409-LANG bundle, and populate your new 96dpi folders as follows:

Yes, I know you end up downloading a lot of unwanted dpi/res files but that is just the way it works when you are porting :) Da_G already spends enough time wrangling these builds and uploading them for us and it would be unrealistic to expect him to sort them down into separate bundles.

Well... in the 21939 the titanium has the same issue with the plugins so, changing the Chome and its lang etc etc folders from 23016... now i have a fully working titanium in 21939... but i dint try this on 23028... so anybody is mixing folders too?

You need to change the Start menu Icon. the one I made is full transparent. the icon is actually part of my background lol. I just put it where it should show up ;-)

Yeah, the Icon is only 16x16 Pixels. The Orb didn't look good at that resolution. So only Work Around I could think was to put it in the TaskBar PNG & the Background. Although it gets stretched in Landscape as there's only one TaskBar Image for both Portrait & Landscape. BTW, the background to The Task Manager QuickMenu is in Taskservice.dll. It's the small 4x4 pixel black image. Replace that with any image you want. Mine is attached as an example.

NOTE: Some ROM's don't use the Background. I don't know what it the difference. It seems your's don't because your background is blue, the color in the Background where the icon is supposed to be.

Edit the New Shellres.96.dll from 23028 Builds. The RCDate entries are the Icons showing there.

Exchange the 96 in filename for your dpi...

NOTE: The new EnlagredTitleBar will show the TaskBar Icon Speaker if you are using HTC Volume Control.

Its weird but my restorator 2007 opens your shellres.96.dll but doesnt open my shellres.96.dll to edit it.But it opens my phOverbmp.dll.

Something is wrong with your Shellres maybe. Also, is your Shellres a compiled one extracted from from a Device or Recompiled from a Kitchen/Source. If it's an uncompiled (straight from the source folder untouched), Restorator may not read it.

If you are using ROM Extractor to pull it out of your device, it should work. Maybe Reshacker made some kind of formating issue that restorator doesn't recognize? Only DLL's I ever had problems with are the Uncompiled DLL's found inside a Kitchen Source (When a DLL appears as a folder containing a bunch of files).

Ok guys I want to run a few things through this thread for any thoughts or info.

Out of the 3 latest 230xx builds ive downloaded only 1 of them boots on my hermes. 23025 and 23028 have been almost useless to me as nothing i try seems to make them boot. 23024 has however there has been many problems with it.

On my first build with this i found cabs themes and activesync wouldnt work. I solved this by replacing the shell folder with the one from 23028. i also found that this had to be one from one of these newer builds in order to keep the new finger friendly features.

Now after that i found that even though the the themes worked there was still a bug with the start menu not showing the theme background. instead it would show a black one and crash if you used it. now this was solved by taking the gridscene files again from 23028.

With all that sorted i thought i would have a fully working rom but now a new problem has occured. even the the start menu shows properly when you scroll down using the touch screen it crashes just like before. using the d-pad works fine though. to attempt to solve this ive have tried different themes, nothing. Tried replacing all the base commom, dpi and resolution files but that didnt work either. and even tried replacing the os and metadata and have still had no luck.

This last problem seems to be the only problem left to solve on this build before having it running perfectly as its running at a decent speed with 21.48mb of ram compared to the 18mb ive been used to with the 6.5 builds from the past few months.

So has anyone had this problem with 23025 or 23028 or have they any idea on what files this problem relates to.

BTW, found blank Icon registry for HTC Task Manager lol. This will make the Icon full Transparent. Just click where it should be in Build 23028 to open TM. Tested on QVGA.

I had been playing around with these reg entries to try to "skin" the icon way back when, but wasn't having success. It kind of looks like a bmp coding, but it doesn't seem to work that way. If it was something like that, it could, theoretically, be skinned. Any tips on how it is formatted?

hmm weird. maybe i should try them with erivus 1.7 im still only using 1.4. I havent even seen the 23022 files to download. pictures in titanium have been fine with 23024 its just been the start menu. maybe it is the cprs i have that are no good.

I dont think the icon can be set as transparent cause... it is bmp and BMP dont allows Transparecies... but if the ressource is ICO you can or PNG... ;)

Actually, it seems that it's on/off pixel Registry. Low value such as 01 are white, high values such as 0f are transparent. There's a 3 sets of 00 following each value. I thought maybe they could change the color, but any attempt made a solid white square.

I was playing around with the three following values as well, thinking they were R,G,B bytes, but to no avail. Interesting that you found the first byte to be on/off, based on relative high or low values. If you put in 0f for all the first values do you get the same result?

tried the new kitchen with 23028 but still the same. stuck on the operator splash.
must say i love the speed of the new kitchen gad i set it up after weeks of not being bothered lol. wonder why mine wont boot :confused: its definately not the shell folder or xip

I had a problem opening some of the .dll also. I just converted the .dll to a module using the kitchen and then converted it back to a file. Restorator opened it fine then.

Actually, this is the problem I was having. I went ahead and swapped the shell folder and that fixed my cab issues and my theme issues but not my activesync issues. (I'll doublecheck all the settings with activesync.) (With my 23016 build. I'm going to try finding a working 23028 build to get the needed files for my 23028 build.)

You may have some modules that have to be turned into files. (Things like the AdobeFlash files, the Browsingie files, etc.)
