Easy ways to free ram: use as little htc apps as possible. Use the stock MS dialer and chome or today. Set the caches to dynamic in boot.rgu (0). Clean up your startup folder, and run only the processes you need. Set the page pool to something small, like 12 MB.
where is the startup folder located? im sure it should be obvious, but i cannot find it xD and are you refering to the boot_ms.rgu file in the MSXIPKernal?

Man, your not kidding! I'm now on the quest to free up more ram (hermes), so I'll be editing all the image files soon. Any other suggestions for freeing up some ram (program), would be appreciated. I'm willing to read through any links anyone has on the subject.
So far, 23541 seems like an awesome build, been running it for several days, and I may finally be hooked on 6.5!
Great advice, but I'd set PP to 4 or 6, and I've seen alot of people use 0. Be crazy and set to 0. :)
I have some new tips today... as Boog says the tweaking for Images as a friend says... (Mr SVI) not all the images can be tweaked as BMP and PNG erasing all prettie images from 6.5 as transparencies and High quiality supports even on QVGA but we can try it cause our devices are so poor (hermes 64MB RAM) another one is... go to your MSxipkernel and eras the HD.dll module and the osax.dll or something like that... it will fly!!!! thanks buddy (Kane) and the last one... A tweaker that many people on Asia uses... this lil app attached... to patch the oemdrivers and some other files like nk.exe... they say it will save so much battery and ram like PP but with no crazy issues and put the F&&%·n RAM drops never tried so lemme ask him a lil to be sure how this hit works. :eek:

its been since 1.08 that i compared them, but the only difference i saw in cdma raph/diam nk was the 2nd display. everything else should be in oemdrivers. you wont be able to make the changes you desire in a hex editor, youd need a disassembler.
well... i found some difference when it comes to the sliding keyboard, there is also a reference to an sd card, and a few more things... don't really remember all of them.
but i think there is more than just the second display, although i'm almost sure u probably know about this things a lot more than i do... maybe u overlooked something, or maybe what im mentioning here makes no difference at all so it doesn't matter if i change it or not.

Hello guys!
I've been away for some time but I may have more times to play with Rom Cooking...
Can anyone re-explain the differences between different COM Series and 2XXX numbers ? I found many info about those on different forums but starting to get lost :o)
For cooking for touch diamond and for touch pro, are there prefered release or all can work ? (I've seen some COM are dedicated to HTC but don't really understand...)
I have kitchens for both so now I'm just looking for the ROM to use that will fit my preferences ;) (I know some are more guy updates, some are office, other stuff, ..... I'm lost :p)
Thanks!
up!
anyone can help me choosing the correct rom ? I don't really wants to cook 4 or 5 different roms then search for differences if you guys already know ;)
thanks!

Boot.rgu is in the oemxipkernel, and it's where the goods are. All the file system caches are set there (datacache, fatcache, bitmapcache, replstorecachesize). Cachesize is obsolete (but needs to be there), so don't waste your time with it. And don't waste your time changing the caches post-flash with tweaking apps, because they don't work.

I think the 8-9 MB of VM you see missing in slot 0 is just due to the dll's that are loaded into the slot. There aren't any modules being mapped there (your memory map shows that), but you lose ~8 MB of VM in every slot because of the dll's that occupy the addresses at the top of each slot. You usually only have ~24 MB of virtual memory to work with for any process because of all the dll's that are loaded by the other running processes.

Hi, can anyone tell me what application this is please?

It's virtualmemory.exe; ggogle it, and you'll find it easily. It's pretty cool.

Thanks for the tweak info! I'll bookmark it, and try it all!
EDIT:
And by the way, I was already running 4mb pp, and I have tweaked some images in the past on 6.1 builds to free tiny bits of memory, but the boot.rgu sounds interesting. I'll have to wait till tonight to look at it, I'm at work atm.

If you can flash a Raphael ROM on a HTC Diamond (OEMXIPKERNAL and OEMDRIVERS and everything from HTC Raphael) will you get a Diamond with TV-Out function or is that a hardware thing?

by setting the caches to "0" you are making them dynamic (ie. windows decides on the fly) / its like when you set your page pool to zero... windows decides the value on the fly
make sure you only do the caches and nothing else or poof goes your rom

Basically optimizing or adding code makes files to change the size.
If there's no change in size maybe there's no change at all (- maybe -)
If you look (as example) at Browsing pkg, it has file sizes exactly the same as 23544, but versions are changed...
At this point,
1) some one changed DSMs versions
2) there is a very little change from 23544

oh, okay. so, how do i make them "dynamic"?
You set the cachesizes to 0, except maybe bitmapcachesize. I'm not sure if the bitmapcache will be dynamic or disabled. I'd just leave it with the stock value (I think it's 100).
Replstorcachesize is disable at 0; that's the stock setting, but I personally like having it running (mine's 800, but it could be less; it's a small cache, anyway).
Look near the end of the boot.rgu (probably). Here are the values (mine are set at 8, 1.5 and 1 MB):
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ FLASHDRV\FATFS]
"Flags"=dword:00600014
"FormatTFAT"=dword:1
"CheckForFormat"=dword:1
"MountAsBootable"=dword:1
"MountAsRoot"=dword:1
"EnableWriteBack"=dword:1
"DataCacheSize"=dword:00001000 ; 1000=4096 sectors(4096*2048=8MB)
"FatCacheSize"=dword:00000300
"BitmapCacheSize"=dword:00000200
So, set data and fat caches at 0. You'll end up with about 3 MB of caches that way, which didn't affect performance much for me, and it saves a lot of RAM. I've got them set bigger now just for the hell of it. You can also apply them globally, then you'll have caching on your sd card and in other profiles.
Here is how to set them globally:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS]
"FriendlyName"="FAT FileSystem"
"Dll"="fatfsd.dll"
"Flags"=dword:00000064
"Paging"=dword:1
"EnableCache"=dword:1
"CacheSize"=dword:0
"Util"="fatutil.dll"
"CacheDll"="diskcache.dll"
"DataCacheSize"=dword:00001000
"FatCacheSize"=dword:00000300
"BitmapCacheSize"=dword:00000200
You just add the bottom three lines. If you want to tweak replstorcachesize, then do it like this (just search for it in the boot.rgu):
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\f sreplxfilt]
"ReplStoreHostVolume"=""
"ReplStorePath"="\\ReplStorVol"
"ReplStoreName"="ReplStor"
"ReplStoreDoImmaculate"=dword:0
"ReplStoreCacheSize"=dword:800
"NumDirsToExclude"=dword:18
"DirsToExclude"=multi_sz:""

Sorry, what bug you mean to exactly?
The ram management. (ok, it's not really a bug, but, in X960 cooking, it's build-dependent so i put it in 'bug' categorie :D )
For example, with the same cooking method :
with 23544 : when you launch some applications, free ram fall quickly and don't be restore to it's first value after you kill all the applications. So you made many clean RAM in a day :D
with 23545 : in the same situation the management memory is pretty good, so you don't have to clean RAM all the time.
(i hope my explanation is clear, i'm not so good in english ;) )
@ +que PPC :
yes 23545 's faster than 28XXX ! Not the case of the 23544. If i refer to the post of michyprima on the difference between 23544 and 23545, maybe it's the gwes.exe difference. (just a assumption :) )

so what are the adv and dis of using lzx compression? i heard that not using it clears up some ram and loads files faster due to the system not working so hard to open them, is this true?

with almost every build there is at least one who tell that new build is "much" faster than older. If summ all such claims, then lates builds should be at least 10x times faster than first build of 6.5.x :D

thanks this is what i was thinking was the case.
on another issue, i updated some stuff in my rom and now in sms and in phone canvas when i bring up the context menu's i.e. new message or phone menu, i get corrupted graphics.
i thought it was the shared resources module but changing it had nto worked, any ideas? tis is the last bug in my rom, everythign else works. i just can;t seem to work out why those two (there may be others but most other menus seem to work so far) are not displaying properly. no graphics drivers or anything have changed. -- edit -- menu enhancement was the culprit :)

In general i'm agree with that point of view but not here :D
nevertheless i can say that differently :
Usually, on the X960, i noticed that build 28XXX are faster and have better behavior and ram stability than the Com5.
But not with this 23545.
For example, after flash it yesterday, when i saw the free ram and the ram stability, i switch on and off the device many time, convince that the build have the SOD problem :D
(When i have encounter SOD pb with some build, it's go with more free ram (~2mo) after flash.)

Is there anywhere i can look that provides a difference between the different builds that are out there ? Im interested in seeing what's the difference between the following trees
218xx
235xx
240xx
250xx
280xx
I would have expected that the builds starting from the top of the list to be the oldest to newest but its not always seeming like that from various items ive read .. The 25xx and the 28xx are the most confusing as from what i can see the 25xx is the later build than the 28xx .. very confusing..
Im currently running a 25007 rom with the 25005 xip and it seems smooth enough, the text is a bit funky in places but for the most part it seems ok .
Curious ..

Even if it were on the first page (I agree, it should be), people would still ask what the build numbers mean. Just like they still ask how to get back their settings shortcuts. And just how they forget to cook in all the proper sys packages, because they haven't read post 5 (or 4, 3, or 2). It would make it easier to link to, though.

With all respect - it does not matter what post did you take the files from! They all mirrors from DFT.
Faster or slower in benchmarks - did you save ones from 23544 to compare? I cook all the available builds and benchmark them - absolutely NO difference!
If you expect that each next leaking build is "much faster" than previous - than it's no need to ever buy the new phone - just flash it in half a year.
So the posts like "Guys I cooked it - it's twice faster than!...." really make me laugh.... :)
To your question: NO, 23545 is not slower than 23544 (and it's not faster) - it's the same! Maybe you missed something during cooking? Or made a mistake?

I have a problme with my recent ROM builds...not sure if its SYS related though :confused:
In the manila settings tab > sound and display > If I set my sound to Automatic, straight away the volume drops to 0 and enables vibration...but this is how it stays...it doesn't change for appointments...even if I drag the volume back up and leave it in automatic.
Anyone know what has happened? It worked fine in my earlier ROMs.
Also all my 6.5.5 ROMs have a permanent calendar on the lockscreen, even if I have no appointments...is this normal for 6.5.5 or is something else wrong with mine?

I agree with sorg.
That is called placebo effect.
There is a solution although.
Let our girlfriend or friend to select the build for cooking.Then try all the builds without knowing the build number.
Rate each build according to the feeling you have using it, no benchmarks.
And then you have more reliable results.

I was not implying anything about the mirrors but just in question in general. As it might be something wrong on my end thus the reason for the question. I don't expect for newer releases to be faster, I just experienced it in this build. And yes I checked vs my 23544 build and it was slower.
Thanks for confirming for me

just a guess from me. I was having ringtone problems since trying newer sys files(25005,25006,25007, 23541,23545) using mskernal included in the rollups onced I changed and just started using(copy, paste and rename) the same oemkernal, mskernal from 23518 ringtones worked again. I noticed that some of the mskernal were different sizes and therefore cause booting issues or ringtone issues

I think we all interpret the 'fast' word in a different way :D
this time it's a com 5 lag free on my device so obviously it feeling faster and obviously it's not a benchmark test ;)
it' a kitchen dependant problem.
on some device, in homemade old school kitchen who 'work better with com 2 than com 5' currently it seems to make a difference.
And as i know my kitchen, i assume that the difference is due to that :

I have some new tips today... :eek:
Has anyone used nuespinlock on the Touch Pro (with 6.5 NK)? Any adverse effects - i'm particularly interested in the battery saving part. If anyone has tried it then could you please reply as to whether its useful and helps with the battery.
I am willing to try it myself but before i do i thought i'd check for anyone with a reason why it might be a bad idea?
Thanks

just have to say that writing down the way you feel will not produce reliable results. benchmarks dont lie.
Lol this is hilarious "it feels so much faster and more stable!" If that were true then after enough tests eventually we'd have flawless roms faster than any other phone out there.

Even if it were on the first page (I agree, it should be), people would still ask what the build numbers mean. Just like they still ask how to get back their settings shortcuts. And just how they forget to cook in all the proper sys packages, because they haven't read post 5 (or 4, 3, or 2). It would make it easier to link to, though.
thanks for posting those info ;)
I think it should be on first page also (or post 2/3/4/5...)
I read those posts and tried to make searches on the forum (and on google) and it's really really hard to find some informations about those COM explanations....

Hey SOHKis, Thanks for the reply - i have also downloaded the gxdma.dll file so i will give them both a try when i do a new build over the weekend.
Do you have any other helpful suggestions for saving the battery? I have disabled 3g when i don't need it, added reg tweaks, but as i use b/tooth and Satnav quite a lot i find the battery drains fairly quickly.
Thanks SOHKis for your time

All files are at their places :) And rom is working now on my device.
To get rid of strange bottom bar buttons and to get normal ones back - just replace OS\commctrl.dll\ for one from 21636. That's it.

Dunno but for me patched nk.exe did not work - the phone did not boot up. But I've tried it only once and I patched only nk.exe. Maybe I should try again and patch also OEM. I will try when I'm not lazy :)

Well im not so sure about it... As Da_G told me a week ago, one of the goals that MS will reach for 6.6 instead of Windows Pone 6.5 will be:
Client messaging experience enhacement
File management enhacement
Fingerfriendly UI
IE enhacement
It seems that the last changes they will make will be... SIP and Dialer and thats all... so we almost reach all of that points... and one of them is File management enhacement... as G told me yes... the builds are faster than old ones or faster than WP6.5 but COM8 is here just to make the next change... messaging enhacement.

Because a test is better than a long speech, i've just made a quick test on my device :
a 23544 rom with the OS folder of 23545, and a 23545 with os folder of 23544. Same cooking method (assume than only gwes is different)
With 23544 OS folder => some lag, loss of memory
With 23545 OS folder => no problem.
Andrew, you can just conceive that the new version of gwes present in this build resolve some bug on some device, especially when the bug concern lag and bad memory behaviour ;) (but in general i partially agree with your point of view ;) )
Does that mean that people must cook the new version ? If you have no problem with latest com 5 build, maybe not, but if you have, especially lag and memory bug, this one could be the good one.

Andrew sorry but i disagree with you build does matter atleast for my device whenever i cook build 28008 (from ivan) it gives me more ram than any other new build and i make several tweaks and get say 5mb ram more on some new build then if with same tweks i cook 28008 then i would get 5mb more on the previous one which is already faster so i dont know about ur device but for my device every build shows some diff either in batter, ram system response or anything else.

ОК, don't want to compare to 23544, but 23545 for me is definitely better than latest 21xxx and 25xxx and 23108. The difference only in gwes between 44 and 45 - it's concerning the file size. Normally it's a lot of changes if you compare in hex with 44 build.
Anyway - the memory map is perfect and I like that branch.

For the difference on my device, i think you maybe have point another explanation of the phenomenon, i need your knowledge for be sure :
you said to jagan 2 that he talking about roll-up - flash.dio difference.
I don't think about this until you say that but the 23544 files i use are from a dump that i made of the 23544.nb. Maybe this could explain too ?

If you expect that each next leaking build is "much faster" than previous - than it's no need to ever buy the new phone - just flash it in half a year.
So in simple words i meant to say that for me different builds have difference. For example i took build no 28008 its faster than other build also whenever i cook a set of builds out of them 28008 gives the most free ram (all builds have been cooked in identical condition)

I'm not a hybrid specialist (usually my kitchen support that only if files come from same branch (so not really hybrid :D) ), but gwes is closely linked to the windows UI interface, and they are lot of difference between COM2 and COM5 UI. So i suppose this not work or maybe you need to port more folder from the 23545 build.
But i repeat, i'm not a hybrid specialist ;)

I have the same conclusion but I did not try 23108. 23545 & 23544 seem to be about the same and my benchmarks are actually better than the 21895. So it does seem the com 5 builds are getting better even if only a slight bit.

Check your registry and the CPRs for the background image, make sure it exists, has the correct type and attributes. If wrong, this can cause scrolling / screen redraw issues (e.g. corrupted start menu screen when you scroll).

All images are present and accounted for. It's not just the start menu. It's something like what's happening in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5726764&postcount=12740 but the "fixes" offered don't work for my problem. Take commctrl.dll from 21636.
That's the real reason BTW why chiefs are leaving away. Nobody here is ready to read - but everyone is ready to write! Half of the topic is bloody big screenshots, repeated already answered questions and overquoting!
One more thing - 21639 is not really good build.

Hi guys !
I would like to ask a couple of things, if the 235XX is not in active develpment which build series is on ? the 28XXX ?
Then I have heard that should be out soon a new microsft message box interface anyone know in which builds series we will find this ?
Last ( sorry for so much asking ...) I have red some post behind that to fix the HTC dialer bug I need to take this file commctrl.dll , from this build : 21636, is that true ?

Where did I write that 23547 is faster than 21639? I did not say that.
The memory map in 23547 is perfect. It works fluently. That's it.
Concerning 21639 - I wrote that it's not good. Ok I can define - it's a shitty stuff!!!
Why? It's buggy at least because of the bottom bar issue! Build is a piece of shit if I have to fix it replacing modules in OS!
That's my point of view.
I have red some post behind that to fix the HTC dialer bug I need to take this file commctrl.dll , from this build : 21636, is that true ?
Replacement commctrl.dll in 21639 for one from 21636 has nothing common with HTC dialer. It's a fix for the bottom bar right button (small size of absence).

I have also uploaded all of the WM6.5 versions I have to a shared folder: 4Shared WM6.5 Sharing Folder (http://www.4shared.com/dir/33731144/bfcb4bc8/WM_65_Rollups.html)
Feel free to upload any more that you have that are not mirrored there. If you need to upload any files that are larger than 200MB please let me know and I should be able to get them on there
