THIS IS A DMA WIFI HERO BUILD:
Thanks goto addisu and dzo for getting a working Wifi module and all the hard working developers who get Android ported to the various devices.
Thanks to JAC for making the base rom (JACHeroski1.6)
This pack was tested and worked before uploading!
Directions:
0) If you have a data.img delete it first!
1) Copy all files from "Required" to the root of your memory card. I recommend at-least a 512mb.
2) Launch haret and click "Run"
2.1) You will need to wait for the data.img (data store) to be created, this takes around 2 minutes. This stores your files.
3) It takes sometime to get to the setup screen. If the screen turns off, just turn it back on. It will come up.
4) Go through the intro of Android (you only do this once)
The first 3 steps get you into Android
The following gets you Wifi (Kaiser/Tilt only)
* In this build, you can now select your WiFi in the setup.
In side Android:
1) Bring the menu up
2) Goto settings
3) Go to Settings -> Wireless Controls then click "Wi-fi" wait until there is a check
4) Select your network under Wi-Fi Settings
6) Make sure you save your "calibration" file and keep a copy of it save so you can just move it to future builds.
House cleaning:
I did not develop any of this kit, I simply put the pieces together and made them available in an easy to use package.
If you need any help please leave a comment in the forum!
To setup APN you must configure it, this can be found on the Android Vogue Wiki( http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android/wikii/HowToInstall )

Well, the previous one is not for strictly a build, its more for the wikis and stuff. This thread is strictly for downloading a complete package.

cool, I'll bite!
Trying to follow the steps when i type "su"
i get "uid 10027 not allowed to su" , I did a search for this phrase and the only hit i got was the same error, but person asking was ignored.
Any ideas on how to get around this?
I'm running on a Tilt.
Thanks !!

Thanks natalic, it works.
Some additional points:
1) Ensure you're getting the file from the rapidshare link. I tried the latest build from the project site (android-1.5-2009-08-04.zip) and I never managed to extract the calibration file
2) There's a hero build here (http://drop.io/calibrationfiles) but I would suggest to get the calibration file out 1st before trying the hero build. It seems that you wont be able to access the terminal easily from Hero builds... (Maybe it's just me)
What works and not in the Android build (non-hero):-
1) Browser works
2) Market works
3) Google Sync works
4) Google maps does not work

yes it is, android is starting to need a forum all to itself, or you can look at it like this if the android threads are builds from diff "android chefs" then it would be no different than multiple rom threads for diff chefs or diff wm versions.;)

I am now using HERO UI with a calibration file extracted from the standard build. Apps are not being downloaded... Google maps also not working... (Always Force Close) :(
Paradox: You forgot to mention about rebooting the phone after running getrom.txt as per your instruction in the zip file.

Is it reasonably responsive on your kaiser? I tried one build of it today, and it was awful. I mean all the features are cool, but no amount of features can replace responsivness...

The Hero UI works. Its just not that fast. I can vouch for that. I dont know how he has wifi working on it. I could have sworn the driver had to be cooked into the system.img

Sorry, I can't find such screen-cap program in market. Here are the steps I did over how to get the HERO build with Wifi
1) Download and follow instruction as given by natalic on post #1. Be sure to use the build on the rapidshare link.
2) After you got the calibration file, go back to WinMo and delete all the Android files EXCEPT the CALIBRATION file and start fresh (You may also wish to backup the romdump.img file for use later)
3) Download and install the HERO build from here http://drop.io/calibrationfiles
4) Start WIFI
I must say that the speed is quite disappointed. I'm going to move on with other builds from now on. Good luck on your tests people !

Sorry that was stupid.......
[return] is meant to be enter......haaahh...:D
Guys......
To get the wifi activated on the HTC Kaiser the instructions are....
1) After loading Android goto the menu and click "Dev Tools"
2) Scroll to the bottom and click "Terminal Emulator"
3) at the prompt type the following
su [return]
cd sdcard [return]
sh getrom.txt [return]
My question is how are you all (everybody who got wifi working) typing "[" and "]" characters......I am not able to figure this out....
Thanks....

You don't type the [return] that simply means enter key. Sorry for the confusion.

natalic, thanks for the package... I've tried the package from the project site but i failed to get the su permission... ur package is the only one worked for me.
But, when I exec the "sh getrom.txt" command, I only waited for about 1-2 mins not 10.... after that, I can find a 101MB romdump file in the SD card root...and the calibation and lights are all there...but they are 0 kb in size, nothing in the file. Not sure what went wrong there, the wifi is not starting too. Could you help me with this please? I'm running TPC V9 WM6.5 ROM with 3.34 HSPL and 1.70.xx.xx radio...
other then that, I have a question with nothing to do to the wifi driver also need your help...accroding to my knowledge, the new 1.5 android rom can support up to 18 different language and inputs....but i your package I can only find european languages,,,, So, I just want to know, is the rom a cut down version of the new android... could you tell me how to add the support of other language please? (Read and type Chinese in my case)
thanks in advance!

The terminal commands should look like this
su [Hit Enter]
cd sdcard [Hit Enter]
sh getrom [Hit Enter]
DO NOT put the ".txt" after "sh getrom" I do not know why the hell they said to but it does not work just enter those without the txt. Its automatically makes it a text file.

Someone used notepad to create the text file and then said they had to add .txt to get it to work since file extensions were probably hidden, which then became this

Double threads on this one. The build is still buggy. We need to start using the wiki on how to get this done. I use the release mentioned earlier in the thread (Android for Kaiser with Wifi [Beta][Package] the one from 7-27-09). It worked but without cell phone. I went to IRC spoke with Vilord said I may wanna try:
http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android/downloads/list
I did that and now the cell phone works, but the wifi doesn't. I tried sh getrom.txt, which was at first missing from the sdcard . After executing it on the sdcard it complained about something to the effect that the blockdevice was missing? Lastly, I tried copying over my old calibration file. It still did not work. So now I'm not sure how to setup the wifi in the phone.
I tried
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=541884&page=4
and that failed. lsmod showed module, wlan_loader showed garbage.
This transcript may prove helpful.. Vilord was very helpful, and very busy. Said that this was a derivative of his work. So Kudo's Vilord and Addisu for the driver. I'm really lost at the moment as far as getting things
(2:49:54 AM) MallocHigh: i have no cell signal.
(2:50:13 AM) MallocHigh: I did format the sdcard for fat 16, would that make a difference?
(2:51:00 AM) vilord: not likely with the cell signal... what device?
(2:51:05 AM) MallocHigh: kaiser
(2:51:09 AM) MallocHigh: its on tmobile
(2:51:19 AM) vilord: what build are you using?
(2:51:28 AM) MallocHigh: Says Tmobile?V for carieer, and scan carieer errors.
(2:51:45 AM) MallocHigh: Not sure, latest from xda-devs that sets up wifi
(2:51:52 AM) MallocHigh: Also camera is black
(2:52:01 AM) MallocHigh: I tried sippdroid and it freezes the phone
(2:52:05 AM) vilord: oh... that one has some issues still... and camera is non-functional so far
(2:52:17 AM) vilord: yup audio in will freeze the phone
(2:52:40 AM) MallocHigh: so this is normal?
(2:53:00 AM) vilord: I only just got t-mobile working, and the wifi build somebody ripped off from my work about a week ago, so it doesn't have the t-mobile fixes
(2:53:20 AM) MallocHigh: Ahh...
(2:53:26 AM) MallocHigh: Dude thanks for this.
(2:53:39 AM) MallocHigh: I was trying to get it working on mypal a716 and then i saw the title.

(2:54:29 AM) MallocHigh: can i test one of your tmobile images? :)

(2:55:11 AM) MallocHigh: (My fat16)
(2:57:41 AM) vilord: depends how long it takes me to upload :)
(2:58:34 AM) MallocHigh: Where is it going to?
(2:58:39 AM) MallocHigh: hehehe
(2:59:31 AM) vilord: eventually it'll be on http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android as it was originally a vogue build
(2:59:41 AM) MallocHigh: I need to make a kernel for my a716
(3:00:02 AM) vilord: what's an a716? is it a phone or pda?
(3:00:32 AM) MallocHigh: pda
(3:01:45 AM) MallocHigh: i saw the zaurus work, and the pda is close to that. 64ram 64rom +sdcard. I got it too boot opie with wifi. card is prism. audio worked. So old I thought if I got android to boot with the kernel would/should be easy and not a driver search.
(3:02:32 AM) MallocHigh: So if I download from vogue it will/should also work on my kaiser?
(3:02:35 AM) ptitjes [n=didier@AToulouse-157-1-60-224.w86-207.abo.wanadoo.fr] entered the room.
(3:02:37 AM) vilord: wow! opie is a unix derivative as well?
(3:02:38 AM) ptitjes left the room (quit: Remote closed the connection).
(3:03:08 AM) vilord: it will, yes. I still need to upload the new bundle, it should show up soon...
(3:03:22 AM) MallocHigh: The a716 is an xscale arm
(3:03:29 AM) MallocHigh: cool.
(3:03:54 AM) MallocHigh: Im tired and just talkative so just tell me stfu if your too terribly busy.. or is it cheetos and progress bar time for you?
(3:04:39 AM) kiozen [n=oeichler@p549215D6.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] entered the room.
(3:04:41 AM) vilord: its bouncing back and forth between busy and wait... 5 or 6 things left to build and they all take a minute or two... longer if i try to use that PC at the same time
(3:06:20 AM) MallocHigh: i dig
(3:07:05 AM) MallocHigh: any hope on that sound?
(3:07:16 AM) MallocHigh: id love to make a voip call :)
(3:09:33 AM) vilord: someone still has to write it...
(3:09:59 AM) vilord: i don't have a kaiser, and unfortunately don't have the time either
(3:10:15 AM) MallocHigh: i see
(3:15:33 AM) BabelO [n=fcr@unaffiliated/babelo] entered the room.

(3:26:46 AM) kiozen [n=oeichler@p549215D6.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] entered the room.
(3:26:57 AM) vilord: it is uploading... will be the bundle dated today.

It's best to sync your contacts and calendar to google server using their sync server. Then you can sync back to android using the in-built sync functionality
1) Configure an activesync server on your device with the following address as sync server: m.google.com
2) Use your userid and password and establish a sync to it (May need data connection if you're not using USB or a conduit)
3) Check from google.com and see if all your contacts and pictures (yes pictures as well) were sync-ed
In android
1) Configure your synchronization via SETTINGS -> DATA SYNCHRONIZATION and it will download all for you.
Pretty handy if you're testing a lot of Android builds especially now that Wifi is functioning it makes it justifiable and easier. :)
Good luck

Anyway, for the first step you can use your PC/ActiveSync as a conduit to connect to the google server.
For the second step, I can't help much. Now I had always chosen an Android WiFi bundle/build to test - non-WiFi bundle/build is a bit too much for me to play with. I'm also waiting for the HERO build to have WiFi functionalities.

The key you provided for file download was invalid. This is usually caused because the file is no longer stored on Mediafire. This occurs when the file is removed by the originating user or Mediafire.

Latest mssmision build with Wifi and some mods.

Works nicely on my Tilt, just wait on first boot, it WILL load, just takes time. Afterwards, it is smooth sailing.

I can get wifi to work if I set it up and then reboot the phone. If I move away from the router's coverage area and then back again, I have to reboot the phone again to get it to work right. If I try to connect to my router without rebooting it connects fine, even shows excellent signal strength, but I can't access anything (internet, my lan). When I ping an address (local or internet) the pings time out. I'm running Ubuntu Linux on three of my computers and wifi works fine with them so it can't be a linux to router problem. I'm using WPA2 encryption. The router is a D-Link DIR-615. Any ideas on this?

No, it could be the WPA2...also who makes the JAC roms? I have to request permission to release them before I do anything.

It shows that a "headset" is connected at all times, when none is, so when I take an incoming call I have no sound.
Also not sure if it's the ION setup or not but I don't see an answer button for incoming calls, so I have to use the call button to answer.

I'm using the 09/05/09 mmsmission files. Why is there no default/startup.txt with the files? I used the startup.txt from Natalic last build to get it running but I'm running into issues. Half of the apps that I put in the AndroidApps folder to be installed at boot keep crashing and the phone won't shutdown properly. Is it the startup.txt file or is it something else that I'm missing?

Same issue (headset icon) sound works ok. Muffles sometimes.

I have perfect incoming sound with mine, make sure you didn't turn on headset? The icon does show all the time, it is some odd carry over from the G1 buid that was ported to the Vogue/Kaiser.
It is just the ION setup, you gotta use the hardware answer button.

I reupploaded my previous build with some new stuff:
Added a app backup script called "backupapps" and "restoreapps"
Also fixed missing default.txt
Simply edit the userinit to add it -- Will have a guide soon

This is really an 09/06/09 build but I didn't bother renaming it.

Natalic, I installed the ION 090609 build (mmsmission) from your site. I deleted the data.img from yesterday's build and replaced all of the other files with the ones from this build. I renamed your default.txt to startup.txt. I launched haret and booted into Android. I set up the APN (for AT&T). I decided to shutdown so I can increase the data.img size (I like mine at 512mb). The phone won't shutdown. The Power off window is there. It says "Shutting down..." and the progress meter is going, but its not shutting down. I let it go for 5 minutes, then I decided that I had enough and removed the battery. I have a Tilt. What do you think is causing it not to shutdown?

It could just be the rom. It is not my department. Let mssmision know about that.

some builds( mainly newer ION builds) don't have a working shutdown for us..You dont have to pull out the battery though..just do a soft reset with ur stylus..
I first saw that issue in JACROM, but I'm waiting the JACROM.sqsh system with wifi..though i might just do it manually in the mean time.
