There is no flash, because still there is no cold boot for Android.

Just unzip and copy all files to your SD card. Than go to file explorer and run Haret.exe from your phone and Android boot will start. First boot will take some time to create data store, just be patient.

To return to windows just power off your phone, and power on, windows will start.

NemanjaLO, can you tell us the rom and radio version that you are using to run it? im trying radio 1.71 and get stuck in the htc boot screen. i've changed the resolution in the default.txt and the logo apears bigger than the screen.

i've got wm6.5 rom (build 21812 but i forgot which cooker made this) and radio 1.71 and first boot took about 5minutes (mostly on htc screen) but now it works quite good

i'm going to buy g1 quickly if they port hero rom to work fast and stable. android is fututre ;)

Works great, but slow bootup time. Because of the BACKUP and the filesystem change. But it looks great, better than Andriod 1.1 !

the only way to get it pass the pin problem is to remove the pin on windows mobile. Go to the phone config on windows mobile and remove the pin so the phone don't need it to stat.

for the hero to work you must copy all files to the root of the sd card

Here is HTC Hero Android bundle modded to work on Niki.

I have used Zenulator's build for this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544906).

If you use sms, try this: "I suggest you download another messing app like chompSMS or handsentsms if you want fully functioning sms because the HTC messenger is not 100% it will send sms but it will tell you it failed even though it really went through." Zenulator.

Because Hero Android sometimes has lag I suggest you to install "Advanced Task Killer" (you can download it from Android Market).

I've actualy tried to cook a rom with as little as posible inside and included Hero in the rom and it runs quite nice :D

This is close to beeing realy usfull for day to day just takes a bit to long to wakeup from sleep if you're in a hurry

dont think its related to the remove icon, its working fine for me, you should just try waiting a few minutes before using it :)

Its very slow, but seem nice.

i think first we should fix the issue that pm.sleep = 1 causes sleep of death, next would be battery lifetime improvement, and THEN roms would make sense.

so the sleep of death gets fixed by setting pm.sleep_mode=0 instead of 1. should also save power. cam driver and power improvements to go? we haven't got a driver developer though :/

You're right it's not related to add or remove icon, it's related with the little vibration that it does when i hold the icon or when i use the virtual keyboard.

It works for me, but is really slow, unresponsive and unusable. Havnt tried making a call, but bluetooth does not start, can not set up a data connection, havnt tried much else.

Shame, as it looks really good and user friendly.

Oh, also pc did not recognise niki.

To make internet working type your operator parameters in default.txt (apn, username and password), than go to Settings->Wireless controls->Mobile network settings->Access Point Names-> Press menu (camera) key and pick up new apn (enter same parameters as in default.txt)

Same problem, but this time there's a system error:

"Application Touch Input (in process com.htc.android.htcime) is not responding."

i don't know, but it seems that the system is faster with this

wow funny all this. hero port doesnt even work on HTC Magic which is an android phone so go figure that it doesnt work well on winmo! i have got a Magic and we are currently trying to get this Hero port right on that device. funny how similar issues persisit - wifi, bluetooth and sluggish performance. most of the Hero ports grind to a halt after few days due to mem leaks. apn need to be entered manually as i have to do same with some of the Magic roms. pretty good work seeing this on this phone though so i can only applaud your efforts!

apparently NemanjaLO fixed the mem problems by using a swapfile. the drivers on our devices arent that good anyways, so yeah, it's pretty well done by you NemanjaLO :)

Trying this now on my Touch Dual (had also done some testing with Jerpelea's google android port to Touch Dual. You are using the same basis?

How do you get this closed source Sense skin to work? Or can you just use the rom's? I'm a developer and trying to understand it.

i guess he used jerpeleas drivers ;) would have been quite senseless to do it all over again.

i guess the sense part wasnt too hard to get to work, as it should work on any kind of ARM cpu.

you can put apps into the background by pressing end call and kill them by pressing the windows key (on 16key)

Nono, I didn't sell my Niki, and I'm not planning to either. I'm just not that a gifted linux-developer (I can develop for Linux, just not as low-level as is necessary to port linux to the Niki). If I read the source I can sort of grasp what it does, but that's where it ends :P

For internet: change APN, USERNAME and PASSWORD parameters in default.txt, you have also to create APN with same parameters in phone (Settings->Wireless controls->Mobile network settings->Access Point Names-> Press menu (camera) key and pick up new apn).

Have you tried to imports contacts from Outlook to Google, than after sync phone will import contacts from your Google Account.

i just restarted a few times and its realy smooth nowno lags whatsoever....im using 6.1 rom from htc site....just the camera bluetooth and better signal and i should be able to use this permanent..again great job!!!!!

What I've done, is created a gmail account and via active sync saved my contacts in it, so I don't loose them.

short report:
location detection works now.
much smoother, even seems like graphics driver is a little improved.
has peep, quickoffice, and spare parts installed.
htc twitter plugin seems to be included.

edit: SMS seems to be working although it keeps saying Message not sent, it seems to deliver just fine.

yeah, i tryed the most used out there, and no luck...

Ok. I've set sleep mode to 0 before also and it was a lot smoother in running! Now set the vogue panel to 0 too, don't know what difference it will make.

I think I will have to do a fresh install (copy original files again to the SD-card). Because I was trying to remove the vibrate from the keyboard, but disabled the keyboard totally and when I go again to Locale and Text, android.something.something.settings crashes...so can't enable keyboard anymore.

How do you disable the vibrate? I think this is the cause of my touchscreen stopping to work...

It works pretty good. I haven't tried calling with it thoroughly. I called 1 time someone, which was no problem. Tried calling my phone from another phone, but I didn't hear anything (this last try was with the image from the_fish, but I don't think it should change any calling behaviour)

The agenda is pretty buggy on my phone now...it crashes and notifications don't occur anymore :(

yep, the battery life. Looks like its alive longer. But I'm back at WM 6.5 for now. sometimes it hangs. I tried calling someone but the phone hanged (waited at least 15 minutes, then I had to reset).

For those who can't get internet working, here's my default.txt file.
It's working for french carrier SFR.
No username or password, but I had to specify the proxy and the port.
Check your operator settings just in case...

Sounds like this should be a great one, but sadly it doesn't boot. I'm running WinMo 6.5, but since it does get into the kernel and stuff (it hangs at the HTC screen after the first sounds have played, and does so for far over 5 minutes) I assume that's not a problem?

Yup, I checked it and I had some leftover config files from previous Android builds up there. Deleted them and everything went fine. Oh, and I could configure my internet settings with the standard android settings application! This build still occasionally is slow to respond and may hang every now and then, but it's getting more and more useable, thanks everybody who worked on this :D

There is no flash, because still there is no cold boot for Android.

Just unzip and copy all files to your SD card. Than go to file explorer and run Haret.exe from your phone and Android boot will start. First boot will take some time to create data store, just be patient.

To return to windows just power off your phone, and power on, windows will start.

Still some problems here with incoming SMS. While the Phone is in Standby Mode, there is no incoming Message Tone, when SMS arrives. Anyone with the same problem ? Perhaps some settigs i forgot to do ?

Seems to me, that there is a general problem while Phone is in Standby Mode. For me, the only way to wake up my Niki, is to press the Power Button and the red "End Call Button" together. Any ideas ?

I do not, but I'm using the recommended 1.71 radio ROM from the radio thread, and I'm now also not using the Hero-files anymore (though I can't remember having problems with it other than still being slightly sluggish).

The physical keyboard (i've got the 16-key version) works fine for me! You do have to add some info to the default.exe:
In the last line, where it says 'set cmdline' and then a load of parameters, you have to add board-htcnike-keypad.keypadlayout=1 in between the quotes.
So if it currently says
set cmdline "board-htckaiser.panel_type=0 pm.sleep_mode=0 mddi.width=320 mddi.height=428 no_console_suspend"
add board-htcnike-keypad.keypadlayout=1 before the closing quote so it would be
set cmdline "board-htckaiser.panel_type=0 pm.sleep_mode=0 mddi.width=320 mddi.height=428 no_console_suspend board-htcnike-keypad.keypadlayout=1"
Again, that is for 16-key nikes only. For 20 key nikes it would be board-htcnike-keypad.keypadlayout=0 (so a 0 instead of a 1) I think, but I'm not sure about that.
(dont copy/paste my entire config, I'm not sure if it will work for you as I'm trying out different kernels and bundles from the vogue and kaiser google code pages)

could resolve the "Wakeup Problem" by changing to "pm.sleep_mode=0" in default.txt. Now the Device wakes up, when i press a single Key. Nevertheless, still no notification for missed Calls or new SMS in the Notification Area.
Perhaps it has something to do with the fact, that i always get the message "process system is not reponding" after reboot. I choose "Wait" and no more Errormessages appear. Maybe that there is a needed Process missing for correct Handling of the Notifcation Area...

BTW: How did you download and install chompSMS ?

I've downloaded and used the SuperHero (http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android/downloads/list) stuff.

With this, the button on top of my Niki works again to wake it up. Haven't tried anything further, but I think I'm gonna try this kernel with the previous image supplied by NemanjaLO.

I got Notifications for incomimg SMS working now (at least for me....)

I used the adb Drivers and the adb Utility (http://vogue-android.googlecode.com/files/adb.zip) and made a dump of the internal log. I discovered that there were a lot of errors for handling the LED of the Device.

Regarding the fact, that correct working of Android depends on some timecritical Processcommunication i disabled all LED Functions under Settings->Sound and Display and Voila, i had SMS Sound and Notifications. The Screen still stays black, but there's a Tone and a Notification.

So if you don't get SMS Tone and Notifications when Device was in Sleep Mode, try to disable all LED Functions.

Hi,

I assume, that you've already downloaded and extractet adb.zip...

after attaching the phone via USB to my Computer, the Device could be seen as "Android Phone" in my Device Manager. Via right Mouseclick choose "new Driver" (is it called "new Driver" ? i don't know, cause i'm in Germany here...). Then choose to decide yourself, where to search fo the drivers. Point to the "android_usb_windows" folder of the extractet adb.zip and the Drivers should be installed. Afterwards there should be an Entry "ADB Interface" in your Device Manager.

Due to the fact, that the internal "missed calls" function does not work (for me)
i've found an app as "workaround" that works perfect. It's called "Missed Reminder" and can be downloaded at http://orangesoftware.ru/en/android/missed-reminder

BTW: installed this app using "adb". Also works without problems...

My mates have been getting at me about that i dont send my number when calling from Android.
So, Settings, Call Settings, Caller ID, bla bla..
Then it gives me an error message, and after this the OS loses network every minute. A "reinstall" helps, but its still annoying.
Will post my default.txt soon. Just trying out a few other builds.

The latest version works way better than the last! My hardware keyboard is able to use, I can call others and the music player is very nice and I can easily switch between regional settings. There is a big improvement, but for daily use, it's too slow. I'm looking forward to the next updates! Thanks a lot! ;)

What's it made of? I'm currently running the kernel from this thread together with an Ion-android build from the google code pages of kaiser/vogue android. I've been using it for two days straight now, and apart from having to push multiple times to wake up the phone there's no problems.
Although I do have to start Android after connecting with the 3G in WinMo if I want internet in Android, and I have to make a call when Android is booted first, to make sure I can receive them. But that's just once every time I boot my droid, and if I keep the battery charged that won't be often :)

Yeah, I noticed that, too. I guess the performance difference between big and small system images might be less once it boots from builtin storage instead of the sd-card?

I'm using the Pure Black. I installed ChompSMS immediately.

I don't receive text messages. I haven't tried it without chompSMS, but it should not make any difference? It's not only no notification, but also no messages in my inbox

Edit: also calling doesn't work. I can answer the phone but no sound-transfer :(
Is it possible this is the kernel's blame? Can I use an older one where it used to work?

I then had a problem where the HTC logo just played in a loop and was large and off-centre. I made sure that I used the default.txt settings in the new bundle and I also swapped to a larger SD card (512MB to 1GB). After doing that it all booted up and I'm having fun with it now.

My phone isn't picked up by Windows Mobile Device Centre either. I have installed an ADB Interface Driver but it reads as HTC Dream Composite ADB Interface and isn't working. Is there a similar driver for the Hero?

I think, simplify bluetooth is not working yet.

open the 'programs' panel (don't know what it is called, button bottom-left), select 'messages', press the 'camera'-key of your phone and then press options...there you can disable vibrate (if I'm not mistaken, don't have Android here, so can't check)

i'm using natty_c's Build from post #224 of this Thread. Works very good and responsive for me. Is there an option to have an "End Call" Button on the Dialer Screen ? I've always to press the Menu (Camera Button) and then select "End Call", which is very uncomfortable...

BTW: i cannot switch off the Phone. When trying, the little window "Device ist shutting down" with the green wheel remains on the screen and i have to do a Softreset. Any suggestions ?
