SuperJustKitchen v0.7 Released.
Go to my site: http://justkitchen.info (http://justkitchen.info/) to get the updates and the info. It takes to long to update every device's forum that is supported, and I plan to support all devices.

Word of warning:
None of the new EXT's have been tested and fixed for the Herald, Opal, Hermes AND Artemis. Please test test and test and then let me know which packages don't work and what YOU've done to fix them. (I don't have time to fix ALL of them by myself.)

(I'm no longer updating each thread separately for each device but just updating my site and posting the release info here.)

Builds included

21869 - WM6.5 with older GUI - Newer internal code - COM2 branch

23071 - WM6.5 with new redesigned GUI - COM3 branch

This is now an ENGLISH only kitchen. It is just too hard to keep up with 13 different languages! If anyone is interested in taking over the other languages, please let me know.

NOTE: In order for me to keep track of whether my time was well spent or wasted, if you use this kitchen to make a ROM, please either include SJK in the name or just mention that it was SJK cooked in your ROM's thread.

NOTE: This kitchen assumes that you know how to flash through SD, recover from a bad flash and are able to backtrack your steps to figure out how you broke your own ROM. If you do not understand these, please learn them first. Do not PM me asking me. I have written numerous walkthroughs on all these except on how to backtrack your steps. For that, just remember what you're doing as you do it and keep backups.

FAQ

Q: Can you get me package YYYY?
A: No. I will provide packages as I create them. I will not take requests. It takes a LOT of time to make a package, especially when I'm making it for 13+ languages. It takes a long time to find the corresponding packages or to create them from scratch.

Q: Will this work on my [Insert device other than Herald/Wing]?
A: Not, yet. That is why it's posted on the Herald forum.

Q: Will I be able to recreate JustHome or JustStable with this kitchen?
A: No. This is a completely new base. I made this kitchen and these ROM base from scratch.

Q: Will you personally teach me how to....?
A: No.

Q: My phone won't boot after flashing your ROM!
A: You disabled something you needed. Keep track of what you disable and then reenable the stuff that you need.

Q: My phone is bricked!
A: You didn't follow the instructions!

Q: When I use this, I get an error.
A: You didn't follow the instructions!

Q: How do I flash this?
A: It's not a ROM.

Q: How do I flash a ROM I make with this?
A: You must know how to flash before you use this. You must know how to recover from a bad flash. You must know the difference between USPL and HardSPL. You must know how to flash through the SD if needed.

Q: Will this work with Windows XP, Vista or 7?
A: All of the above. Just remember to follow the install instructions.

Released

0.6
Cleaned up the Herald's initflashfiles and older packages (This fixes the double control panel icons.)
Ported 21869 and 23071
Cleaned up the Opal OEM a little.
Organized some EXT into categories. (This is still a work in progress.)
Starting with v0.6, I've created a script on my end that will automatically compress the kitchen and separate it into multiple parts:

SJK - The main kitchen files.
OPAL - The Opal files.
HERALD - The Herald files.
SYS - The Build files (Both SYS and XIP.)
EXT - The EXT files.
This should make it easier to update things from now on. I'm going to have scripts to only update certain things. This way, you should only need to download whatever has had the changes, instead of the whole kitchen. Later on, I hope to create an updater that will do these updates for you automatically. (At first, I won't be able to update the EXT without deleting any custom EXT's added by you, the user.)

0.5
English only support
MANY new EXT's (multiple versions for now)
Opal support
All EXT's are being categorized... work in progress

0.4
Added updated packages for the programs that are language agnostic.
Added 23060 and 23420 builds. Fixed their button issues by using 23053 to fill in the blanks. (230xx's are more stable, 234xx's are newer and have more features as well as more bugs.)
Added descriptions to every package (albeit, they're a little more technical that I wanted, but I got them straight from Da_G's mouth, so they're bound to be correct.)

0.3.1
I only left 3 builds. The newest 6.1, the newest 6.5 with the old gui and the newest 6.5 with the gui (23047, it's really nice!)

0.3
CABtoEXT - Thanks to Apreinchner - Update: Edited the script heavily (it went from 4 lines to 88 lines) in order to make it sort out and move all the newly created EXT's appropiately.
Ported 23034 all languages - even MORE gui changes!
Ported 23037 - stable
Ported 23409 - Again, MORE GUI changes! (A few bugs, though.)
Converted many of the problematic modules to files in the 23034
Change the all the languages' start menu on the 23034 build CPR to 4
Change ROM version to show that the ROM was built on SuperJustKitchen
Fix Adobe bug
Change ROM version to show that the ROM was built on SuperJustKitchen
Port other languages from 23031
Integrate Sort program into prepare structure - Script it
Presets for each build
Addition of 7 more languages?
Clean ROM more

0.2
Russian initflashfile.dat fixed - 6.5 start menu works fine now
Port 23028 0409 96dpi - deprecated
Change landscape mode in 21016 and 23028 to show 4 icons instead of 3
Script new EXT folder creation - extra buttons
Fix cab and sync bugs in 23016 and 23028
Port 21054 all languages (newest (and possibly the last) wm6.1)
Remove extra netcf's, extra dummy fwupdate, extra SQM's
6.5 compatible autorun
Port 23031 0409 96dpi
updated all language initflashfiles
Fixed issue with SMS on 6.5 builds
Fixed ActiveSync issues
Replace all start menu icons in all 6.5 in all languages with nicer ones
Empty folders disappearing fixed - different installer (placeholders fix it but some of those folders have to be empty...)
Remove compatibility for all other DPI's and resolutions other than 96dpi/320/340 for now to keep size down.
Remove compatibility with languages that aren't compatible with the Herald for now to keep size down.

Cooking with SuperJustKitchen
*Warning: This is NOT a walkthrough on how to cook. It is a walkthrough on how to use this kitchen.*
The Layout

The Kitchen is stored in c:\kitchens\SuperJustKitchen\

To simply run the kitchen, double click on RunMe.

Advanced users: There will be a different walkthrough for you. (As far as how to add packages, builds, etc.)

The Usage

Once you doubleclick on RunMe, you will be greeted with the main kitchen window.
Here is a screenshot of the process. Use it to follow the steps.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=214125&stc=1&d=1249761431

Step 1 - Click on the Device drop down menu and choose Herald (Yes, even though it already says Herald.)

Step 2 - Click on the language drop down menu and choose your language. To find what the language codes mean, see the first page.

Step 3 - Choose a XIP.

Step 4 - Choose a matching SYS.

Step 5 - Make sure you enter a build number other than 2.00.00 in the field near these. Use 5.2.21051 or something similar instead. If not, the ROM will not flash.

Step 6 - Doubleclick on the packages that you want or don't want. (Green means enabled, gray disabled.)

Step 7 - If you want LZX compression, check the LZX Compression.

Step 8 - Click on create ROM.

Wait.

If you get any errors, you probably did not choose a build/language combination included. Look at the list of languages to see what I mean.

Advanced Tips and Tricks

This section will detail both advanced cooking tips and advanced usage of my kitchen.

Kitchen structure:

If you notice, the structure of the kitchen is different from the old kitchens.
The only folders you need to worry about are the following:

Cooking Folders

EXT - This is where you would add new programs. EXT packages are similar to OEM packages, but they have a slightly different layout. They are processed by the kitchen after the OEM, so their settings are never overwritten by the stock settings of the base ROM.
OEM - You'll notice that within OEM, you have a HERALD folder. The reason being that this kitchen supports multiple devices at a time. Within the Herald folder, you'll notice several folders.

The .VM is used for memory mapping. DO NOT TOUCH THIS under ANY circumstance.
The COMMON folder where you would find most of the what you'd normally see in your old style OEM folder. (OEMAPPS, OEMDRIVERS, etc.)
Various folders named with 4 letters/numbers. These are language packs. They used to be part of the OEM folder but have been seperated to allow the kitchen to choose which language to cook more easily.

ROM - Inside you'll notice the following:

Device specific folder - Holds all the device specific XIP files/modules, including the nk (which is NOT a native 6.5 kernel.)
SHARED - Where the non-device specific parts go. This is what gets "ported" automatically by the kitchen. This makes it very simple to release upgrade ports to the kitchen.

SYS - The OS files. These are also divided by language, DPI and by resolution. (QVGA, SQVGA, WQVGA, VGA, etc etc) You will only be able to choose DPI's and resolutions compatible with your device.

Other folders:

RELEASE_Device - This is where your flashing software is and where the ROM ends up at in NBH format.
Prepare - I store things here for different reasons. At the moment, it holds the template for a 13 language EXT package.

Other features:

Extra buttons: Click this to access extra features.
The EXT version lets you choose between different EXT's compatible with different DPI's with the common ones (compatible with all DPI's) always displaying.

Hah, love the FAQ

Question: For WM6.5 builds, do you have to check the Real WM 6.5 AKU box on the main kitchen screen? Or does it not matter? (I'll be finding out in a minute, anyways, lol)

i may have found a bug. I dont know remember the packages i chose but when it comes down to creating the rom i get a kitchen_build_rom.bat error. i dont get that anymore after altering the packages with HERALD, 409, EXT 0096, 96 DPI, dpi_96_resh_204_resv_320, 1.01.23016 ver., 23016 XIP, 23016 SYS.

Also, i havent been able to create a flash able rom yet. how do you reset the settings to default?

Yea, I think the .NBH files have to be over 50 MB in order to flash through PC. Anyone confirm that? (I'm trying out a 6.1 build, with the new Motorola homescreen, cuz it's sick)

Do NOT check it. It will attempt to set all the modules to use another set of virtual memory that is not available to our NK.exe. It's only for originally 6.5 devices.

What was the error and what do you mean altering? I made this kitchen mostly on Windows 7 build 7100.

As far as default settings, I didn't include a default ROM. There are many things you should not disable if you want a booting ROM. :p

I keep getting a file is corrupt error when I try to flash?

If your ROM is smaller than 52100kb, then it has to be flashed through your SD card.

Yo tambien.

I have yet to create a bootable ROM. I have followed the instructions exactly. They are very clear and well-written. At first I tried double-clicking a few things I wanted to add, created the ROM, renamed it, put it on my SD card, got to the white screen where you slide the volume slider to start the process, and it just went to the tri-color bootloader screen. I figured it was some sort of conflict with something I added (I noticed NetCF was in two different places and wasn't sure which one to make green), so I tried deleting everything, reinstalling all the .exes and just creating a ROM with the default stuff selected. Same result. I tried with and without LZX compression and each time it just goes straight to the bootloader screen. Oh well. I've been enjoying JustHome enough anyway. Just wanted to try something new.

BTW, the ROMs I tried creating had between 420 and 440 modules, and were between 53 and 55MB, which seems right. And aside from the LZX box (which I tried checked and unchecked) I left the other three boxes alone. Also, when I tried LZX i got the message that said it was enabling the compression but never the LZX completed message that's in the screenshot. That's what made me try it without.

I've done that, but I still didn't get a working version. I used the base config from Ivan's downloadable 21051 build, cooked following the instructions, but still, nothing. I'm going back to Holly's kitchen to try to port this 23024 build (a new day, a new build)

(Oh yea, mine flashed through SD, but when booting, I got the black screen after the first splash, which means something was missing from SYS or XIP, or the OEM caused it. I used the default config fresh from downloading and installing the 21051 build though. Weird.

Not being able to flash through SD does not mean that the ROM isn't bootable. It just meanst that either your SD card is too slow, you didn't name the NBH file to the correct file name (HERAIMG.nbh) or you didn't change the 2.00.00 to something higher than 2.00.00.

i give up. i cant create a rom that will flash into my phone.

There is no default config. I left it the way it was when I was playing with something. It's up to you to choose what you want to enable/disable.

I can't speak for everybody, but I would appreciate a default state if it wouldn't be too much work on top of what you've already done.

I think the 2.00.00 thing was my problem. I'll know later today when I have time to try again. Somehow I missed that in the instructions. I could have sworn I read everything.

Had those enabled when I cooked it, still didn't boot. I might try it again later, I guess. I'll definitely try it when you port 23022, lol.

OK Listen up everybody.

I created a 21051 ROM with the "default" settings I left you on the kitchen when you download it and it works just fine.

I created a 23016 ROM with the "default" settings and it did not boot. I went back and realized that I had both the Dummy FWUPDATE and the real FWUPDATE enabled. I disabled the real one and kept the dummy. Then it booted just fine.

To the Russian ROM builder, I'm still checking that issue out. I THINK I may know what's going on.

Everyone, please test this. If it doesn't work, then you might be missing something in your PC's config that I have.

Sounds good, Ivan. I will disable one of those things and try with 23016 tomorrow. What about .NetCF being in two different places? In the top section it's there, and then further down there are several different versions. If I just want 3.5 (mainly for advanced config) should I have the one in the top section enabled or disabled?

Use the ones in the EXT section. The one in the SYS section I left there accidentally.

This is probably not a bug but a MINOR MINOR MINOR inconvenience, but if you don't install both XIP, it'll keep nagging you until you choose the XIP that you do have. It'll only effect the first 2 drop down (per the instruction of choosing device then language), so it's NOT a big deal. Just thought I would throw that out there.

Thanks for all your hardwork bro!

Due to the nature of the multi-build/multi-device set up, it HAS to do that, to make sure that you choose something compatible yourself. I know it's annoying but there is no way around it. Sorry.

Maybe i am being a little premature with my question here, but in the advanced section you say:

EXT - This is where you would add new programs. EXT packages are similar to OEM packages, but they have a slightly different layout. They are processed by the kitchen after the OEM, so their settings are never overwritten by the stock settings of the base ROM.

Is this where I would include all the programs I want installed in my rom, like M2D and Total Commander, etc. Where do I put them in the Ext folder. My folder EXT folder has Herald and Shared. Within each folder are other subfolders...so not sure exactly where to add files. I have tried in both the Herald and Shared and in both the 096 folders of each. Each time I have tried that they show up in the kitchen in green, but when my rom is created it is coming out to 48,584 bytes each time, no matter what I add in the Ext folder.

You can drop the files either in the Shared section or the Herald section. If it's showing up as green then it will be inserted as long as you have it in the correct format. Does the EXT package have a app.reg file in it and a files folder with all the rest of the files. (And possibly app.dat.)

Wow, just built my own falshable, bootable spanish language ROM using SJK. I was shocked when it had 24.58 MB program memory on fresh boot. Then I tried installing a CAB and nothing happened. Looks like I left out the cab installer. Probably left out other stuff as well (no themes, ringtones etc.)

Thanks Ivan for such a simple Kitchen.

Now I have to tweek the settings. Are the icon sets different for each language? I dont like the start icons used in spanish. If so, how do i copy the icons from English to Spanish?

So, who is going to write the manual?

The English ones are different because they were ones that I got a long time ago. If it's 6.5, just search in the 0409 folders in the SYS for any CPR files and overwrite your 0C0A CPR files with these. I should probably change all those.

Any ROM I cook for spanish doesn't allow CABs or TSK files to be installed. When I double click a cab file or select a theme from the TODAY control panel, nothing happens. Any ideas what could be wrong? Everything else seems to be working.

How large is your .NBH file? If under 50 MB, it must be flashed through Storage Card.

But, it sounds like you didn't follow the instructions. Look at them again. You skipped the step where you change the "2.0.00.00" number to "5.2.23022" or something like that. It seems like that's your problem.

HardSPL'ing is required to bypass the security checks of the bootloader.

Search for "Herald HardSPL". The answer will be among the first results if not THE first result.
That's why it will not let you flash it.

Do I have to HardSPL or can I flash through flash center assuming it is big enough. The reason I ask is because everytime I have HardSPL'd my phone I have all kinds of problems syncing and connecting to my PC. I have tried the USB to PC thing and it never connects. Ultimatly, I have to revert back to stock, then flash through flash center. I can try to HardSPL again if I have to but I would prefer not too...of course after tomorrow evening I won't care as I will have the TP2 and use the Wing to hone in my cooking skills to use on the TP2.

I've never had problems with HardSPL. But if you really don't want to use HardSPL, if the nbh file is big enough, you can always download and use USPL to flash it. (But it has to be at least 52,000kb large.)
I've never seen anyone with HardSPL have that many problems.

With this kitchen, it's as simple as:

Copy an existing ROM\HERALD\Build and name it the new build.
Copy the new MSKernelXIP into the ROM\SHARED\BUILD (obviously, instead of build, use the number of the build)
Copy all the proper SYS files within their own BUILD number using the correct file structure.
The kitchen takes care of the rest. Don't worry about any files and modding files. Just make sure you get a SYS with your language and DPI.

Yea, that's usually how it's like. (That and figuring out if it's also a NBH format and what the memory addresses are (which means you need an RUU to dismantle.)
Before we had a HardSPL or an USPL, we had another way of doing things... it was complicated... it didn't give you back the storage space from using a smaller ROM and you couldn't flash anything larger than the preinstalled ROM, but it worked...

It's not supposed to open up My Documents. I think I know what the problem is... the installer deletes any folders that are blank and the folder required was deleted. I'll have to place a placeholder in the folder for the next release. In the mean time, go to C:\kitchens\SuperJustKitchen\Working_Folder\TOOLS\ extrabuttons and create a folder called OEMtoEXT.
While you're at it, in C:\kitchens\SuperJustKitchen\Working_Folder\TOOLS\ extrabuttons\Compress create two folders, one called Optimized and one called Original. Then try the button again. It should work just fine this time.

I didn't catch that, even though I caught it with the EXT folders (the blank ones also disappeared when I first created the installer, which is why there was a day's delay in me releasing them.)

Go to bootloader...

Hold down the camera button, and then while holding the camera button, press and release the soft reset button. Continue to hold the camera button until you see a new screen appear (be it white or the colorscreen).

Then connect via USB and flash. That should work.

Exactly what ace said. You neglected to enable something in the kitchen. Place the phone back into bootloader mode.

Everyone making a ROM, please be sure you know how to flash and how to recover from a bad flash first, before attempting to mess around with creating a ROM. It'll prevent you lots of headaches, trust me.

You would also need all the EXT folders. I didn't make my old ROMs with this kitchen, though.
As long as your EXT packages have the needed language files, you can make a ROM and duplicate it in ALL 13 languages.

Activesync IS enabled but it won't turn green since you're not syncing, since you're not in Windows Mobile.

Did you follow step 4?

Step 4 - Choose a matching SYS. Make sure you enter a build number other than 2.00.00 in the field near these. Use 5.2.21051 or something similar instead. If not, the ROM will not flash.
Other than that, what is the size of the nbh exactly? (in kb)

USPL doesn't work in the bootloader mode. What USPL does is load a SPL into the RAM THROUGH Windows Mobile. To flash anything that's not the RUU while in bootloader mode, you have to be HardSPL'd.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396364 <This forum has a link to the T-Mo 4.26.531.4 update. Use it to flash the original back. After you have flashed {& wm6 is completely booted}, Flash a HardSPL to the phone {Read: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332413 }. HardSPL is Here> http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=56049&d=1193629329 . Be sure to read How to HardSPL as there are a few steps nessecary.
If you are unable to flash thru the PC, then flash thru the SD card.
How to flash through SD:
-Format an SD card to Fat32! {A 128MB card is highly recommended (Same size as internal ROM). Larger cards may need to be partitioned}
-Copy your ***.nbh file to the SD card
-Rename ***.nbh to HERAIMG.nbh {Must be CAPS Heraimg.nbh will not work!}
-Place card in Phone!
-Hold in the camera button while soft resetting the herald. You will see a confimation screen {If it goes to the multi-colored boot screen you did something wrong}
-Slide the volume button down. you will see "Reading SD..." at the bottom left screen.
-Wait forever!!!!!!!! DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING!!!
-When the bottom left says it's "Done, Press any key"; Press Send. Screen will then go into Bootloader.
-Reset your device. Your first bootscreen will show the CanonYang Logo.
-Enjoy! You can now flash any Herald ROMs. :)

Like a mentioned a few posts back, everytime I have tried to HardSPL it works, but then I have all kinds of problems with connecting to the computer to sync (or just to connect). Everytime, I HardSPL my phone I run into the same problem, it will not connect no matter if the USB to PC is checked or not. It simply does not connect. So the only way to un HardSPL is to flash back to official ROM and since the phone will not connect to the PC I have to put phone in bootloader mode and then run thier offical ROM.

That's right. But why flash back when you aren't using HardSPL? You don't need to flash back to the RUU at all.

And Hemans, just flash it while in bootloader mode.

This is really meant to be a tool for cooks. In order for me to support the kitchen part, we much all know how to recover from a bad flash and how to flash in general before using the tool. I have various walkthroughs posted around these forums that deal with how to flash. Please read through them. They should help most of you having problems flashing.

Are you currently HardSPL'd? if so try this: Open the official RUU from T-Mo with 7-Zip. Extract the entire thing. Delete the 2 .nbh files {RUU_Signed & SPL}. Now copy the ROM you want into this folder. Rename your ROM RUU_Signed.nbh. Run ROMUpdateUtility as you normally would.

I had not thought of that as I was too concerned with getting my phone to connect and sync becuase it was my only phone and I needed to sync my contacts to the phone as I use it for business. Now that I have the TP2, I don't have to be so cautious with my wing.

Spent that last few days playing with the TP2, but I will be getting back into the cooking for the Wing and honeing my cooking.

Let me see if I can clarify it again:

1. You're not HardSPLed.
2. To flash anything OTHER than the STOCK RUU through the bootloader, you MUST have HardSPL.
3. USPL boots THROUGH windows mobile. You MUST be INSIDE windows mobile to flash it.
4. USPL will NOT work in bootloader mode because Windows Mobile isn't running in the bootloader mode.
5. If you're not HardSPL'd, you can flash the stock RUU only while in bootloader mode.
6. If you want to flash a third party ROM and you're not HardSPL'd and you currently can't boot windows mobile, you must reflash the stock RUU FIRST then reflash with USPL to something else.

Look at the EXT folders for an example.
Add an EXT package, add a "files" folder. Add a app.reg and just add your settings to it.

This isn't the kitchen for you, then. Right now, Ivan's gotta fix some MAJOR bugs in the ROM's. Go with the older Ivan-based kitchens. There's an amazing guide that explains everything you need. You'll find it all below...

But if you really want to cook, you also need to know a lot more than only click on some small buttons. Please read this forum carefully. Everything is explained at xda-dev (especially in the herald forums). You have to read a lot. It would also be nice if you know something about the windows operating system in general.

And as hint: Sometimes working with try & error hels a lot ^^

Unfortunately, the poor quality isn't a bug... it's the default icons you get. :p Most cooks and sources replace them with nicer icons, which is why JustHome had nicer ones and all other current ROMs had nicer ones (because their sources made them nicer.)

As far as the walkthrough, this isn't a "how to cook" walkthrough. It's a "How to use this kitchen since you are ALREADY a cook" walkthrough. I might make a walkthrough later on more advanced things, but it's really time consuming and I don't really have the time.

Is your Herald a WWE Herald? The RUU depends on the EXACT version of Herald that you have. Not just "herald" since there are many different versions and many different languages.

Also, what SPL do you have? It's not 1.x or something is it? If it is, then you bricked it and you'll have to use a Goldcard to fix it. (Search for goldcard.) You can even use a goldcard to flash right now, if you wanted to.

Search for "Herald Goldcard". (I just search things when I'm asked for links. :p I don't think anyone knows them by heart.)

Any news on v.2 of SJK, and the porting of WM6.5 build 23022 to Herald/Wing?

Any news on v.2 of SJK, and the porting of WM6.5 build 23022 to Herald/Wing?
I've been a little busy with work, lately. So far this is what I've done so far, though:
Russian initflashfile.dat fixed - 6.5 start menu works fine now
Port 23028 0409 96dpi
Change landscape mode in 21016 and 23028 to show 4 icons instead of 3
Script new EXT folder creation - extra buttons
Fix cab and sync bugs in 23016 and 23028
Port 21054 all languages (newest (and possibly the last) wm6.1)
Remove extra netcf's, extra dummy fwupdate, extra SQM's
6.5 compatible autorun

I just build a 6.1 ROM and can not get active sync to work. I am hardspl'd and flashed through SD card. Once phone was set up I connected to PC and WMDC just says error with a red x. All functions of the phone seem to be working fine. I unplug my wing and plug in my TP2 and WMDC works fine, so it has to be something with my ROM. The other weird thing is that I can browse to my computer and my wing is listed as a device. I click on it and i have access to phone and SD Card. Any ideas?

I noticed that a few days ago... it's not even attempting to sync on my end. It's on all the builds, so it must be something in the OEM folders from the Herald that I used. It connects but doesn't attempt to initiate the sync. I'm currently working on a lot of under the hood stuff so I'll be looking for that.
Thanks for reporting it.

Thanks for reporting it.

Ace reported with some of his 6.5 ROMs that Activesync only works when "USB to PC" is set to "enable advanced network functionality", probably due to some unfinished mod by Microsoft. Could there be a similar problem with 6.1? Before I set this, I was experiencing the exact same symptoms, device connected via USB but no activesync.

Awesome work bro! Installed and cooked my first rom. Though I couldn't use the extrabutton "OEMtoEXt". When I get to the last step it shot me the error

"The Path to 'OEMtoEXT' does not exist or is not a directory".

The last output before this is: http://imgur.com/88FEql.jpg

Also, how come you put the OEM stuff in the sys folder and not the OEM folder? Or have I been creating something not OEM which is causing me to get the OEMtoEXT error. I am using Package Creator v2.7 to convert my cabs to OEM. The programs i cooked into the rom works fine.

Thanks for all your hard work!

There isn't any OEM stuff in the SYS folder. The SYS folder contains all of the applications that are shipped with Windows Mobile.

The OEM folder on his kitchen is specifically for the necessary OEM stuff, and generally shouldn't be touched.

Yeah I got that error too, I ignored it since it converted it okay.. Although when you click to open the location it is saved to, it brings up the My Documents folder. However, if you just refresh the OEM to EXT folder, or if you closed it, c:\kitchens\SuperJustKitchen\Working_Folder\Tools\ extrabuttons\OEMtoEXT. It replaced the OEM package that you originally put in there with an EXT package. And you would just drag that into your EXT\Shared\Common folder, and make sure it's enabled in the user interface.

You're correct.
It looks like it's not opening the correct folder, if it's opening the My Documents folder. But on my Windows 7 set up, it opens the folder just fine. Weird.

The new changes mean that a lot of older themes and programs get very glitchy visually.

The newer build no longer has a start menu at the top. It is now at the botton left corner and ok is at the bottom right corner.

some of the new stuff was a little off too, like the ok button in the bottom left would sometimes revert to a VGA image, so you could only see the top of the O or the corner of the X - little things like that

start menu at the bottom left hmm... makes sense but at the same time throws my world out of balance, god I'm a nerd

Oh I thought Package Creator v2.7 converts cab into OEM. And the folder structure of the output looks similar to those found in:
C:\kitchens\SuperJustKitchen\Working_Folder\SYS\23 031\SHARED\COMMON
so I placed it there.

Oh my bad, I thought you're suppose to put the oem file inside the common folder in the oem folder.

You're right, it did output the ext correctly.

I am using winxp home 32bit sorry about that

ivanmmj
23rd August 2009, 08:05 AM
Don't change anything in the SYS folder unless you intend to skin parts of windows itself.
This kitchen uses EXT's but can also use OEM packages.

OEM packages (not recommended) go into the OEM\HERALD\COMMON folder.
EXT packages (recommended) go into:

EXT\HERALD\COMMON\yourownfolder\ if they're only compatible with the Herald
EXT\SHARED\0096 if they're not device dependent but they are 96DPI (most QVGA)
EXT\SHARED\0128 if they're not device dependent but they are 128DPI (most QVGA non-touchscreen phones)
EXT\SHARED\0192 if they're not device dependent but they are 192DPI (most VGA)
EXT\SHARED\COMMON if they're not device dependent nor resolution dependent.

I know.... sounds complicated at first. But the nice thing is that they're processed AFTER your OEM, which means settings don't get overwritten by older OEM settings, and if you change your OEM, you don't have to worry about seperating the packages later on.

I successfully cooked on my second try a 23031 build ROM (Pst.. Cooking tip: dont add Ivans JustHome extras to 23031 or strnge things will happen with the Start menu and theme.)

New UI with 4 soft buttons on the bottom takes getting used to, but everything seems to work great. I have one question, does the default Mobile Outlook in this build have MMS capabilities? I cant find MMS options anywhere. Do I need to install arcsoft MMS composer like in previous ROMS? Which version would work best with 23031.

I'm having problems with applications that require NetCF in build 23031 ROM I cooked. I added NetCF3.5 in build but I did not include the generic NetCF line. I thought you had mentioned that it was extra. Do I need to include both and a version for it to work?

ivanmmj
24th August 2009, 05:39 PM
You shouldn't have to, but some programs require NetCF2.0 instead of NetCF3.5. I know there is a way to integrate both with a special package (since 2.0 and 3.5 have some files named the same, you can't just cook them both at the same time.) But there is also a program that lets you choose what version of netcf each netcf dependent program opens up to. I forgot what the program was called...

Good news and bad news...
Good news: I've got v0.3 somewhat ready, but it won't be anywhere near as big a change as v0.2. Mostly, just added a CABtoEXT script (which I plan to change significantly when I have time to simplify it.) and I added the 23034 build with the new GUI (start menu at the bottom and the top bar is thin) for all languages.
Bad news: School started... and taking three courses while working full time + over time, is a little much, so I will probably either halt development until the semester ends or at the very least slow it down tremendously. But it has to be done that way for me to be able to get through the semester.
We'll see how I juggle all this.

About the NetCF problem, I dont think it is a version issue. I cooked 3.5 in ROM. Previous ROMs with 3.5 preinstalled had no problems with these programs (like BeyondPod). The error message implies that the NetCF could not be found, but when I tried to reinstall 3.5 over itself I get an error that it is already in ROM. I'll try cooking with different setting to see if I can figure it out.

Overall I'm liking 23031, but 23034 looks interesting (No more top bar).

A quick question... How can I restore the old volume control functionality to the side up/down button. Currently it is set to scrolling up/down and does not start the volume control. I remember on another phone there was a control panel setting for this, but I dont see one on 23031.

23034 is pretty nice. The default button icons are a little boring and can get confusing, but it's got great potential.

Alpha 0.1 made many problems under vista - sometimes my pc hang up itself, especially the explorer. Also the cooking was not successful, when I used some combinations. The connection to active sync/ wmdc was not stable.

But with Alpha 0.2 it was easy to cook and flash and the rom runs very stable until today (itīs ready since three days). This kitchen is easy and fast - also usable for beginners.

Many thx to Ivan for this great work...I hope for a walkthrough in the future, because I used it in the simpliest way. There are many options, which I canīt understand and it would be exciting to use it more special.

That's not true. NetCF can be cut out of the ROM and you'll still have a functioning ROM. The calculator may not work, but the ROM will still boot. On Ivan's kitchen, all of the NetCF packages are EXT packages for organizational purposes instead of including them in the SYS. But no, you don't need a NetCF package included for it to boot.

I checked the NetCF(made it green), made the rom, and still got the error. Was I supposed to touch any other editors in the Kitchen? Because, I only set the RGU editor and the top box.

Well that's because NetCF wouldn't cause the ROM not to boot. You most likely, have not included an important SYS file, or you haven't selected a matching SYS with XIP.

Rim1Flex

The XIP and the SYS are the same number, and the rom version is 5.2.23031 I might just delete everything and extract the file again, and see what happends:).

Well if you did that, as long as you don't mess with anything in the SYS after extracting it all again. You should have a bootable ROM.

I just found out that that build has an issue with NetCF in general, but that it was fixed on 23037 (which I already ported.) So that issue should be gone in the next release. But yea, that wouldn't cause the ROM not to boot up.

1. You need the settings. I didn't include any settings for any carriers. You have to download the cab for it and convert it into an EXT or download the network wizard.
2. For auto-setup to kick in at reboot, you have to: Use the wm6.5 compatible version (which I forget if I added in 0.2 or 0.3... so you not have it, yet.) Also, you have to edit your config2.txt.

Yeah 23403 is something Ivan ported a while ago, but never included. It's from a different development branch within Microsoft. It doesn't contain all of the new updates found in 23037.

I made the rom and didn't have the power failure this time:) (Thank God). I get past the tmobile splash logo and then nothing, a Black screen. I thought ok, maybe there isn't a image so I waited a few minutes and its still there. I am not having much luck with this, lol. Anyone have any ideas?

Update: I went to the kitchen and just started checking everything, lol. I got a 69 MB rom and it worked. I guess my Wing is just to old to update, lol. It needs to retire.

No, I don't even know where the option for that is. When you open and close the keyboard it resets. But when I stroll down, it repeats the problem. I put like everything from the list in this rom.

You probably enabled the JustHome Customizations package. When you scroll down with that enabled on 23031, the start menu trips out like a couple of kids on Acid. The start menu CPRs aren't compatible with 23031.

You can either disable it, or make the package compatible with 23031.

Heres how I solved it: Go into the c:\kitchens\SuperJustKitchen\Working_Folder\EXT\He rald\COMMON\JustHome\

Copy the JustHomeCustomize folder and paste it back into the folder. Rename the duplicate folder to JustHomeCustomize23031. Go into the new folder, then go to the "files" directory, scroll down and find all of the StartMenu CPR files (both the global and gridscene ones, there should be 4), and delete them. Then go back into the kitchen, disable the old package and enable your new JustHomeCustomize23031 package.

Ivan or Apreichner, how do you add lnk files to the startup menu in SJK? I've added some converted CAB packages to OEM folder, but some need to be launched before they remain resident in memory. Currently I have to manually add the shortcut to the Startup folder after the flash so that it autostarts on every boot. Can't this be cooked in?

Well, it's SUPPOSED to be cooked in. However, for some reason, CABs that are converted to OEM using Package Manager, don't seem to contain the .lnk shortcut file. So when you convert them to EXT there is still no .lnk file. It's a weird problem I found out about recently. I have a new script that we are currently working on for 0.3 that directly converts from CAB to EXT, and this seems to fix the problem.

I'll still be working in the background but Apreichner will be releasing the kitchen from here on, adding some user friendliness. I probably will still do the porting, or we might work on that together. I already gave him v0.3alpha including 23037 so it's up to him when he wants to release it.

Yeah Ivan is still in the picture and that isn't exactly how it is... Who said there isn't work left to be done? Currently, there aren't a lot of additions to it you don't already have, with the exception of 23037. Ivan gave me the alpha build of 0.3 to do further development and testing on it because he is busy with school. And there are still a lot of additions I would like to make to help you guys make better, faster, and more stable ROMs. However, to help you better understand the development process of this, I'll tell you this. It's like each of us working on half of a puzzle at the same time, and when it comes time for release, we put together the two halves. Similar to how Microsoft has different divisions working on WM6.5.1, and in the end, it'll all come together as one product.

If what you are looking for is the 23037 build... It might surprise you to know, that it is not the newest build available, and we are working hard to bring 23041 to the kitchen. This build adds some bug fixes, graphical additions, and a fix to the volume slider problem.

If you feel you can't wait for us, I encourage you to investigate how you could port ROMs to the kitchen. It's not the easiest thing to do, but I bet that you will find during the process you have learned a lot of very valuable information about cooking and the kitchen you may have never known before. If you need help with any of this, feel free to consult me by PM.

Yes, with the next release of the kitchen, you will find a very EXTENSIVE guide to the kitchen. As well as a bunch of other little notes that will help you.

Also, a CAB2EXT script Ivan and I wrote together will make it easier for you as well.

This is a little off topic, but I'm thinking of moving the justkitchen.info from worpress to joomla. I'm going to do all the moving process locally then move everything to the server but I forgot the mysql username and password you gave me. Although, I think I can get it from my php set up files in the wordpress directory in the server, so never mind. PM me the info, just in case, if you can, though.
Thanks!! (I won't have time to work on this any time soon, though...)
