!UPDATED! [20-10-09] HERO on Kaiser / Android + SenseUI

I've started a new Google Code page for the "Kaiser-Hero" project.

Please note that I'm NOT personally developing anything, as I don't have such time or knowledge, but I'm grabbing the latest builds from current developers and I try to make the best combination for Kaiser. Credits go to the coders!

Also I'm optimizing default.txt for Kaiser but please *read* the Known Issues.

I would be very happy if the current Vogue (vogue-android and vogue-hero) developers would give me a hand in order to keep this functional!

Later edit: seems like the process of taking screenshots from Android is a little bit...difficult. I need to install the SDK & stuff, so I'm doing a very short (VERY LOW QUALITY!) video demo. It runs ok in my oppinion, for a ported OS! Still, the "standard" Android runs faster.

Check post #3. Regarding the OS, all the programs I've tried until now (music, pictures, market, etc) are fully functional.

The single problem I have is a laggy keyboard and the fact that sometimes the processor is to slow for the OS (add the fact that the build is PORTED, not native, so it isn't optimized like on the "real" HERO), so you need to wait sometimes for the apps to load.

The rest...is fully functional. I'm using Android for 2 days, and today I had HERO all day running without a problem.

Mnope, no ideea, I don't use the clock + time widget as it slows down the home page VERY much.

I'm also searching for that cool widget that HERO has, with all the faves and their messages. It would be VERY usefull for me, as I kinda communicate with the same people. Any ideas?

how long does the first boot lasts, because im waiting for 10 min now and the only thing it does is show the hero logo and then it shows the htc logo then shows the hero logo and then the htc logo and so on. Do I have to do something? im using radio 1.71 and an 6.5 rom! Ion builds works ok on my phone

Yeah...it is...and it isn't... It was fixed by somebody else but after that the coders released another zImage with fixed data, but broken WiFi. So right now it's data vs. WiFi. Still I suppose that it will be fixed in a couple of days. I'll keep everybody posted.

in my kaiser there os no hero - htc loop at startup, it only hangs at the htc logo(animation stops after a while).the default is as described in known issues.
when i push the power off button it wents normaly in standby,another push and it comes back (with fade). but there is still the htc logo

Don't get me wrong, but at the hour I made the bundle WiFi WASN'T working on the LATEST build. It was working on a modified image, but still the moddification was not made by the "official" coders, but by another XDA user.

You mean wifi for Hero? I need the creator of any build to tell me I can fix and redistribute or else there's no more coming from me. I've posted a fixed one before so if you want it in the meantime, it works. My link has been taken down so you'll need to get it from someone else. Zenulator's been messing with his to get it to work, so check (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544906) his out if you want.

Exactly, that's what this thread does :D If you notice that one of the bundles here is older that the latest built from the coders, please, let me know! That's the whole idea, offer a working version to the community.

Later edit: WiFi is not working with zenulator's latest system.img. I suppose that it works on Vogue but on Kaiser is still not functional, or at least it doesn't works on my device.

But after trying this build for a while and then pressing the power button twice, screen got garbled and i couldnt do anything other then jerk the battery out.....well that was my solution.

But now my phone i black and dead.....hmmm...

Only one green led lights up when i press the power button.

You can't brick with Haret. You should power cycle. Hold the power button down with the battery out for about 30 seconds. Put it back in and try. If anything, pulling the battery out did it.

I think it was my fault also, i dont blame android/haret, just got surprised.

Testing your build at the moment, removed all old files on SD card and renamed your DEFAULT.TXT to STARTUP.TXT...

First boot takes much longer than android-1.5-2009-08-08.zip as expected... On my device it took 5 minutes.

I think the slower first boot is because it could not initiate the data connection, hence cannot find my Time Zone / Location

Location Consent screen took a long time as well, hitting Next triggers the hero boot and HTC screen again, then lock screen will show up.

Cannot make outgoing calls, hangs up immediately... The android-1.5-2009-08-08.zip build had fix this issue for me.

I love the hero interface and exchange works out of the box tho, hopefully these will be resolved:

- WIFI
- Make Outgoing Calls

Edit: Outgoing call has been fixed with system-dalvik.img from http://code.google.com/p/vogue-hero/downloads/list

On Kaiser you should use 320x428. If it looks ugly, try Q2 from the Wiki.

Did you set the AP within the HERO settings? If not, you should add your APN from Settings - Wireless Controls - Mobile Network Settings - Access Point Names - press the menu key (the windows logo key) than tap "New APN".

Bluetooth is not functional right now on the ported version.

Discharge/drain your battery, get it out from the device than put it back (DON'T skip this step, as Kaiser has battery sensors that need to be reset), boot Windows and be sure that the battery is drained (if it's not drained don't try to boot Android, drain it with Windows) than let the phone charge for 10 hours with the phone POWERED OFF.

After that Android should get the right level of your battery (including charging).

When I try to enter my normal Pin Code, shows also PIN3 (???)

Did you locked your SIM...? PIN2 is asked when the SIM is locked. On some devices PIN2 = PUK.

I put this latest bundle on my Kaiser and it boots fine, but I'm unable to load photo albums (it tells me the process had to be terminated) and my contacts are empty as well as my text messages. I tried to put an old (non-hero) bundle back onto the Kaiser but now Android won't boot at all. I took the data.img file out of the root folder and let it boot and it worked fine but again, all my data is gone. How can I get my stuff back? The address book is one thing since I can recover most numbers from the SIM card, but some of those texts are really important to me. Any ideas? Any info would be really appreciated!

I must say, this is prettier than anything else I've seen for the Kaiser. Obviously it's not perfect but, what is. It is somewhat slow but, no slower than a bad 6.1 ROM ;) It ran perfect the first time.

Running near perfect (for someone who rarely uses the phone camera and never uses WiFi). Thank you for this.

There are 2 odd quirks.

1. It vibrates on every SMS. Can't find where to turn it off. I found it for when the phone rings, but not for text messages. I'm sure there's a setting I'm just not seeing.

EDIT: The option to turn off Vibrate is within the SMS app itself and not the general Sound settings.

2. Whenever I send a text message, I get a text back that says "Message Not Sent" and the phone vibrates twice (God, I hate that noise), but the person I'm sending the message to actually does receive it. Is this a common issue for people? (The "message not sent" part, not the insufferable vibrating noise)

Contacts yes, sync them - from WinMo - with Google using Google Sync (http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=winmo) than sync Android with Google. Don't forget to BACKUP YOUR DATA in WinMo - I recommend PIM Backup - in case the sync goes crazy.

Regarding the messages, I don't know, but I suppose it's not possible as they are stored in a WinMo specific file.

2. Yes, it is a known issue, right now it isn't fixed by the coders. Your message IS SENT, still Android reports that it wasn't sent.

Well...a native bootloader would be great, but still I think it's not a vital point of the builds for the coders. I think that making WiFi and Camera work, see the SIM contacts, etc are more important for the coders and for the community.

Still, I suppose that someday we'll see a native bootloader for Android on WinMo devices.

Mate...you really are in trouble... You told that you've "put an old bundle back". Your address book was on Android? You don't have your contacts on the WinMo installation? Note that HERO can't read the contacts from SIM.

Regarding the old data file, HERO can't read any other data.img, just the one he creates.

Well, if you don't have a data plan from your provider (note that data works on the latest bundles) than your options are...none... WiFi will be fixed in a couple of days, but still...without a wireless router...it's useless. My advice would be to activate a data plan, they are really cheap nowadays...

Search the Google Marketplace from your device. But for that...you need access to the Internet. The marketplace has a lot of task managers, so you can install any of your choice. Without a task manager, I think that the music app will run in background, or at least I didn't found any "Exit" button. Well, if you don't have a data plan from your provider (note that data works on the latest bundles) than your options are...none... WiFi will be fixed in a couple of days, but still...without a wireless router...it's useless. My advice would be to activate a data plan, they are really cheap nowadays...

I just took the dog for a walk, during that time I made a few calls to the wife, no problem outgoing but, I cannot receive incoming. I do get texts and can send them but, I do not get the cannot send message error everyone else is talking about. Is there something I need to check to fix the incoming call thing?

I've had no issues with incoming calls, and data works right out the box for me on this new build (G1 default apn for me since I used to have a G1 lols). The sms error is still there and I hope that gets fixed soon :)

Update: I changed radio version from 1.70.18.02 to 1.71.09.01 and I can now receive incoming calls. Just thought I'd let y'all know. ;)

But, and there's always a but, I now get the message not sent notification for outgoing texts. They are received. Seems it plays different with different radios. :rolleyes:

There is an app called "Open Home" for android that updates the cupcake UI to the new HERO's interface. It has the 7 screens and everything. Personally for me, the cupcake build is more stable than the hero build right NOW. Just download the Openhome file, then go to market and search for HTC hero.

The work done on this has been excellent. Alittle too slow for my everyday use and there is a learning curve. It makes me want to wait on the Hero instead of the Tilt 2. Amazing things happening with Kaiser these days. Tried FE widgets also and man o' man

On Kaiser you should use 320x428. If it looks ugly, try Q2 from the Wiki.

The more I play with this the more I like it. It seems about as fast as M2D on my phone. I synced with Google first time without any issues and it was quick. I did have some odd things happen, i had my wife call me after switching radios and it didn't go through. I called her and then had her call back and it went through that time. Makes me wonder, will I have to do this for everyone that calls me, or was it a one time thing.

And the sms not sent notif. is annoying. :p

If you add the HTC people widget and add a contact, and then miss a call from that contact, it displays a little bubble with a number. How the heck do you clear that?

What two files? You need to copy ALL the files from the bundle on the root of your card, than run haret.

Try to format your card than copy the files back. If still not working, try to boot from another WinMo ROM.

Im running one and an halve day now, and I must say this is fantastic (except for the resolution) It works kinda smooth except for browsing (when a website is loaded it scroll very smooth). Battery life is very good, went from 100 to 78 in 12 ours on standby, sms not sent is annoying but that doesnt care ;). I would never go back to WiMo again because its much faster!

Try to format your card than copy the files back. If still not working, try to boot from another WinMo ROM.

I am having a similar problem and am wondering if something is incorrect in my default.txt file. I'm using a TILT on AT&T. Here's what I have in the default.txt file (new lines added to make this more readable):

The screen just keeps rolling by but I can see something about a long filename problem, something else about a missing start bit and a lot of "not auto-correcting this" messages.

I have not tried re-formatting my SD card and would rather not do that unless I have no other options to try.

You can do that right now. Just rename default.txt to startup.txt, and place a shortcut to HaRET.exe in the \windows\startup folder. Booting will take a while, and the images won't be android images, but it should work okay.

The more I use this, the more I like it. The level of customization is unreal. I loaded it on eos-888-Fire without adding any apps to the initial customization. The speed is noticeably faster than when I had loaded it on a full 6.1 and 6.5.

I copied everything from my SD card and then reformated it, making sure that it was using FAT32. That fixed this issue.

Discharge/drain your battery, get it out from the device than put it back (DON'T skip this step, as Kaiser has battery sensors that need to be reset), boot Windows and be sure that the battery is drained (if it's not drained don't try to boot Android, drain it with Windows) than let the phone charge for 10 hours with the phone POWERED OFF.

After that Android should get the right level of your battery (including charging).

I'm trying this now. My device wasn't displaying the correct battery status. I hope it works. It's not that I doubt you, I'm a pessimist. ;)

You may want to try different radios. right now im running stock wm6.1 att radio 1.65.21.18 haven't had time much to flash new radio, found a bit ago that i had downloaded the older version, i just downloaded the newer and it seems faster, tried to download weather forcast but it wouldn't connect, and again haven't had time to check settings yet. gonna try on getting the wifi going this weekend if it's still not working by the time i get a chance, this working two jobs is gonna be the death of me.

I was wondering that too. I noticed it just displays their phone #. After the call, I see that call change in the history from "phone#" to the actual contact info.

Can't active sync via USB but set it up to sync with Google Calendar and GMAIL accounts and it works great. It also supports downloads from POP3 accounts. My weather does update but cannot remember doing anything special after selecting my Home city. I have not figured out the update interval but I do see it changing and the update time displayed.

I have been using this for less than a day so I am no expert. But from everything I have read it might be difficult to sync with your pc. There was a suggested solution a few posts up using funambal sync client, but I could not get it to work.

I've noticed, every time I boot to Hero from Windows the first time it displays an incorrect time. Today it was four hours off (sed 4am when it was 8am). I am still waiting to see if the battery fixed worked. It displayed charging status before but wrong bat level. Is there an easier way to see the battery level other than settings/about/status? I also noticed there is no "missed calls" widget. Other than seeing an indicator near someone's name in the people widget I don't see any missed calls. They don't notify me like emails or texts (upper left corner). Am I missing something on that one? It also seems you can only have one people widget, you add another and it just replicates the first.

I was watching the Hero video at HTC and noticed something, the video states that the track ball lights up to indicate a missed call. Is this the ONLY indicator for missed calls, I wonder? This build doesn't seem to use the LED at the top left. I'm wondering if there is a way to route that missed call thing to that LED.

I just installed that way but I just can get the contact app working. But nothing else, there's no bottom bar, wallpaper, any kind of button to access configurations, etc.

Mate...you really are in trouble... You told that you've "put an old bundle back". Your address book was on Android? You don't have your contacts on the WinMo installation? Note that HERO can't read the contacts from SIM.

Regarding the old data file, HERO can't read any other data.img, just the one he creates.

How can I recover the contacts and messages I had when I was running a regular Cupcake build? I've tried to delete all the Hero files and run an old build, but it hangs on the "Android" screen on boot-up. If I delete the data.img (my original one, which is 64mb as opposed to 128mb for some reason) file both the old Cupcake builds and this Hero build create a new one (128mb) will boot and run fine, but I can't access my messages. If anyone knows how I can get any version of android to recognize my messages again, or how I can extract them out of the data.img file, I'd be deeply grateful.

This week i had started using android, the first i had was the 8-8-9. This one is much sweeter though. Wifi is not something i am using much so i can miss it for now. I'm thinking to using this as a standard os just because it feels much better than WM, though i am quite satisfied with WM (6.5).

The second question - I have been using the 08.08 build since (guess) 08 August and was nicely surprised. As it has a working wifi, I spend a lot of time downloading apps from the market. Will they be preserved if I change to new build?

BTW - was able to import contacts offline with Andook lite (free) as I had them in cvs... Unhappily as I have over 500 contacts the android contacts became somewhat lazy...

Market saves the files in data.img's app folder. You need to copy them over to your SD card to save them. If you get ADB set up you can do it from your laptop.
This (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4336093&postcount=7363) will tell you exactly what to do so you can use ADB. There's other ways but that's the easiest. I should also mention that Market saves what you've downloaded so you can go to My Downloads, download and install them again.

As for project sites, Androidonhtc.com is kind of a home base wiki that is fairly up to date but has a lot of info. Kaiser-hero is from this thread and I don't know what android-kaiser is intended for but it has the source code for Haret. The main projects are Vogue-Android (http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android/) and Vogue-Hero (http://code.google.com/p/vogue-hero/).

Zenulator has posted a new SuperHero bundle that is really fast and has everything you need to put on your sd card. All you have to do is edit your default.txt and add your old media folder that includes the resources as it is not included in this bundle.

I would try reformatting it with pocket mechanic. Anyway there is a new hero bundle available that is more stable so try that out also.

you don't even need the ppp values in your default.txt for data to work.
I have mine set at ppp.nostart=1 so that data does not automatically turn on when hero boots.

All you have to do is add an APN in your mobile network settings and use the carrier's settings as listed on androidonhtc.com

Here is my default.txt I am using thats works flawlessly.

Thanks for all of the help guys. Still not working so the variable I have left to eliminate is the new naked ROM I flashed just before trying SuperHero. The problem could be the ROM is missing something that is needed in the initiation of the network connection. I'll try with Stock Rom just to be sure.

Yea that is a big piece of the puzzle. I was trying to run android for the first time using just stock at&t rom but data wouldn't work. The rom I am using now is TPC v10.9 rom with suggested radio. and after I configured my apn settings within android, bingo it worked.

installed this today and all is well (apart from the known issues like bluetooth etc!) however does anyone know how to remap the keyboard? My "W" key produces the "@" symbol and the "Q" key produces the "!" whereas this should be the other way round, other keys are different from whats pictured on the keys also, is it possible to remap? No probs if not as not too much trouble to adjust to, a massive thanks to the developers who enables us all to mod and enjoy our devices!

Look at your default.txt for "atttilt=1" and if it exists and it's set to 1, change it to 0 and see if it works then.

I loaded SuperHero081609 soon after it was released today however only recently noticed that the developer has added info about it and state it to have "minimal optimizations" whereas PureBlack081609 is "highly optimized". My only problem is that after going with the latter in seek of better performance, it seems there are no weather apps! Is there any way to add it to the build or download it as a separate cab (if hero supports cab that is, im unsure!)

Help would be appreciated!

Oh you... the reason it's optimized is because the RAM heavy weather apps were removed. You'll have to decide between a full ROM, Pure Black which is nicely done and 8-15's which I'm using. Has the weather apps and is quick. Make sure you have the compcache rootfs.img and if you're using a Kaiser, there's a new DMA rootfs.img with wifi speeds >10x the old stuff.

Also, Zenulator is almost done uploading my wifi and su fix for Pure Black and Super Hero builds. He told me that it sounds like all of you who tried it have it working for 8-15 build so that didn't get included. The Vogue-Android project page is getting cluttered a bit so he will put them on his (Vogue-Hero). Please, tell me if there's an issue specifically with wifi-- not him. He doesn't even own a Kaiser so asking him to fix it is not the best idea. Just tell me about wifi issues and hopefully they will get included in a repost soon that will have DMA support. If you don't know what that means, we currently have a sort of middle man for handling wifi. It's a hack and it works but it very RAM intensive. DMA is direct and has speeds >10x what you are experiencing now. When I test that out, I will update the 3 latest builds for you and you will probably cry for joy like I will. Thanks everyone for helping us test these.

ok thanks, that system.img file loaded fine and have the weather app, but now strangely "There was a connection error whilte attempting to download weather data"? The G icons arrows flash whilst attempting to refresh but resulst in the error message? I made sure wifi was off to make sure it wasn't confusing the source of the internet, I have signal...??

If only things were straight forward eh?!


ps: all i did was replace the old system.img file with the one you suggested and renamed it to system.img!

thats ok thanks for your time. Im deleting all the old data off and starting again with copying the new builds and files as suggested. If that fails then yes it must be something im doing and so until I work out what that is Ill resort back to last working set up. Yes i do know how to browse the internet, just we all need to start somewhere when establishing an understanding for such technicalities and I had read around to no avail before posting for a little help amongst the more expereinced!

All well a few more attempts to get this working for tonight and im gonna have to call it a day, modding should come with an addictive health warning lol

I usually keep AppInstaller.apk and Term.apk and have another folder where my other apps go to keep things light. I then use AppInstaller (free from Market) to install them as desired but there are others like "App Installer" which is also free.

Me too. Working great, fast, stable and complete.

Couple of things won't work for me.

- GPS is turned on, but Google maps can't find my location.
- Trying to import my SIM contacts won't work. This work on the ION build.
- Sync with Exchange/Activesync won't work. I thing this has to do with the pincode policy of our Exchange server. Android mail doesn't have an option to use PIN.
- Can't hear the incoming call ringtone.

Delete the data.img has solved my problem for booting android.

I have a new problem with android about unlock the phone, but it's not the good thread for this.

Unfortunatly, I can't launch Hero. I have remove all, and try to launch Hero and I get the problem of logo reboot over and over.

I will wait that somebody find the solution.

Alright, I can't figure this out. If I could send one of you my data.img, would you help me how to recover my contacts and text messages? I know this is super random but I'd really like to have them. The contacts are one thing because I still have them on the WinMo side, but those texts are priceless and I can't access them for the life of me since I put this Hero bundle on my Tilt. Does anyone have txtract that wouldn't mind helping me out?

Well, you can send your data.img to me but it's got personal info on it. I was looking at a just-used-once data.img that I hadn't imported contacts to yet but was querying the contacts. How good are you at SQL and SQLite3 specifically? Tell me what you're planning on doing to put them on your SIM or wherever you wanted and I'll help you out.

If you're talking about MMS and SMS then you want this file: /data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
So take the data.img, mount it (it's an ext2 partition) to a folder, with sqlite3 installed:
$ sqlite3 com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
If I wanted to get data from the qtext table, I would:

I don't text so I can't select example info-- the tables are empty except for ones like above. You will select, chop, cut and paste what you need that way.



There's an issue with contacts on incoming calls and related issues on Hero builds so I was thinking of making some scripts that could try to transform that info in a handler scipt that could pass info to the HTC app that's managing the call. Should just be some glorious queries to run.

Problem is that the CPIN request needs to look like this:

help me i want this to work, i already tryied everything, i think.. and still doesnt work, always stuck on HTC logo then goes stand by... =( the resolution is ok (320;480;160), already changed the panel to 0, 1, 2, 3 all the same... already changed builds etc etc.. the maximum i achieve was working with android-1.5-2009-08-08 but almost nothing works... if i put this hero with the default.txt of android-1.5-2009-08-08 appears the HTC HERO loop... if i change the values to 320:480 stucks on HTC.. bahhh anyone? thx in advance...

That could be the problem right there. Try a more updated ROM. 6.1 or 6.5.

Hey Natalic, I just booted the build you posted and all seems good accept, I cannot get a data connection. Tells me the sim isn't provisioned for data services. On the first Hero build posted I could get data np. Is there something I need to do? :confused:

Another thing I noticed is when I go to settings and turn data on it says it is on but I never get the 3G symbol at the top. Also, every time I try to add a clock and a city it crashes the clock app.

Make sure you setup the APN and connect the modem.

Could lack of data access be why the clock crashes? Need data to find your city I assume.

Still won't let me add a clock with a selected city, it just crashes, I tried adding a clock with the default "selected city" and briefly saw an error about Touchflo being unhappy and now my SenseUI is gone. :(

yeah i know i already tried more then 30m but once it goes to stand by and the screen goes black is over i think... the HTC bright effect stops just before stand by.. if i press power button the screen turn on but HTC isn't with that initial bright so i guess is really weird, i have tried all the "fixes" for the problems on this post and other posts.... o/

SMS works for me but I get the notification bug.

From what I can tell, there is no way to set an alarm in this build. :( and the digital clock with built in weather doesn't seem to function either.

Bear in mind you are using a closed-source proprietary system on the open source version of Android. I'm looking into an interface that should let them talk to each other. The reasons you think Hero is better than your family and pets is also the reason that it is seperate from the normal Android system. Just in case you were thinking these were bugs with the build. I'm not bitching by any means. Just pointing out things I notice on the different builds. I am amazed by the progress so far. It seems each build has it own quirks. The one natalic posted seems pretty close to being a full package. If it had alarm functionality I would use it as my primary OS. Whomever is putting all the work into this it's greatly appreciated. Can't wait to see what you guys do next. ;) My biggest problem with the Hero builds so far is, 90% of my calls go to voicemail. :(

I tried a few different radios with similar results. I just had my wife call me 3x. Out of those, only one went through, the others went to VM. I did not have to call her first but, have experienced that. Tell me how to log dump the radio and where to send it and I'll help any way I can. I would like to see this work as much as you guys. It's the coolest thing I've had on my phone by far.

I think I am using radio 1.71.09.01 ATM.

Am I correct on the alarms being taken out of the latest build? So, I can stop looking for them. ;)

The first build I tried ran sweet but, I had the call bug (no incoming unless I called first). Everything else worked fine out the box. Data, alarms, notifications and texts (without the message not sent bug). The more resent ones seem to have introduced new issues but, Wifi works. Looking at this from a user and not a developer standpoint, I'd have to say you guys are really close to a fully functional build. As far as any Android build I've tried.

Just thought of something, the last time I tried powering off the Hero build it froze up on me. First time that ever happened and all that was connected was the phone, everything else was off (Data/Wifi).

then disconnect twice in modem, then wait 'till the network comes up and try to make or receive a call. You'll have the output in your SD card's radiolog.txt file. You might want to double check that there's no personal info in it.

I just did some more testing and had the 'ole lady call, it went through but, I could not hang up. She ended the call but mine kept going AND we had no audio at all. I am so bummed ATM, I want this to work so, let me know what I can do and I will. When I booted to Hero again it showed the call that it showed as being connected to as a missed call.

I have 8-15 Hero system.img with wifi and 8-15 everything else. Compcache and 60Mb swap. Calls come through. Tell me what's up with the logcat function (yes, that's a terminal command)

Yup, you have Zen's original system.img. My repack for wifi included su access. You can easily bypass this by doing:

/bin/su

8-15 has worked very well for me. SuperHero lagged enough that I tried Pure Black and that made me go back to 8-15 again. Since, not a single issue with calls. I will say though, my radio is old enough that GPS doesn't work with it. I really couldn't care less about that but it should indicate that the radio might be a factor with receiving calls (that is what the logcat script checks anyways). You might want to consider updating to the newest radio and see if that makes a difference for you. Personally, Android is like it was preinstalled for my phone.

Seems I have the latest Kaiser radio. Super Hero build was far to slow on my phone and Wifi didn't work. I am going to go back to what I sort of had working a minute ago. I was making and receiving calls after toggling the modem on/off a couple of times. I will get you that log file in a second. Thanks for your input. :)

Looking at the files I'm downloading I realized something, I have a fully functional Android (same release) with data/wifi, works fine. What do I add to give it the Hero interface?

When I put those files all together it loops between the hero/htc splash screens and that's all it does. :P

You have a better system.img for PureBlack? Or is the one in my package good? I don't want people using old stuff (that was the only one I could find). I am more into ION.

The one I posted just had wifi added for Kaiser, SuperUser was fixed and I disabled the startup sound. When I said 256Mb I was referring to the size of my data.img. I have a lot of apps, 128 doesn't cut it.

ION is a Cupcake style closed-source version of Android. Hero is HTC's version, proprietary so beyond closed source, with a gussied up interface and a plethora of new features 2 years in the making so far.
