"Things are about to change, as id President Todd Hollenshead announced during the QuakeCon 2009 press conference that Quake Live would soon be adding support for Linux and Macintosh systems. Users who want to catch an early glimpse of the enhancements can do that at QuakeCon, since both versions of the plugin are available for testing on the show floor. Non-attendees will have to wait for the update that is scheduled to come on August the 18th, this Tuesday."

Quake Live Getting Premium Subscription Service (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3175597)
"On the heels of the recent announcement that Quake Live will be coming to Mac and Linux, a new subscription service was announced. John Carmack, founder of id Software, told a crowd at QuakeCon that in-game advertisements would no longer be enough to support the project and keep it free to play. The subscription service will become available at a future date for an undisclosed fee. A subscription would grant the user the ability to create their own private server and customize it to their liking. A subscription will never be required, allowing those gamers who don't choose to purchase one to continue to play the game for free."
No such issue for free users :) "unless we want extras"

After installing the plugin, when it loads the game it hangs up at around 74%. Tried twice...
