*Putting a 'Twist' into Your HomeScreens*
**Proud to be the First 'Official' CPR-Based Horizontal Theme for the Dash**
CycloneSkins aims to give users a chance to have awesome, revolutionary skins for their phones, each day of the week.
There will be a total of 7 skins when complete (maybe more after those 7). As you can see, there are 3 Proof-of-Concept screen-shots below, illustrating 3 of the Horizontal themes.
All themes will be CPR based, and take no more than 5/6 MB of space, and no more RAM than normally required by a Titanium Layout.
While unfortunate to some, these skins will be optimized for the following conditions
Excalibur running Ookba's 3vo ROM Ver 2.5.080809
Excalibur running Ookba's 96DPI
[optionally] Excalibur overclocked to 240
After having a good release, I will make it a project to adapt these skins for other ROMs, aiming to make these skins universally compatible amongst all Excalibur units running 6.5.
Main Update:
WARNING: BACK UP THE FOLLOWING BEFORE INSTALLATION:
/Application Data/Home/Titaniumpanel_media_topbar.xml
/Windows/Titanium_320x240.cpr

(In the Registry) HKLM/nls/overrides
/Windows/Startup/Checkstatus.mscr
ITS FINALLY HERE! HORIZON BETA 1 !
Yup yup, Its true! So here is the details on this. Well, for starters, it is the FIRST CPR BASED HORIZONTAL THEME in development on these parts of the forums, but it is still sorta far from done.
Thank you to Stylez for cab'ing up the files necessary.
Thank you to Mr.Nick for your amazing Glass Icons (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=516848)!
Space requirements: 160kb (install to device)
As far as the phone ROM and extras:
-This will ONLY work on Ookba's 3VO Rom (2.5 for Sure, you can try others)
-This will work best with 96 DPI installed
-This will work best (if not only) with the Topbar icons for the 3VO Rom
Installation:
Download the CAB file below
Transfer to phone, and install to Device
Do a soft reset to make sure everything is put into effect
THERE YOU GO! You are running Beta1 of the Horizon Theme.
For now, these features exist in the Horizon Theme:
Each panel is a full screen
CComm panel has indicators on right side of active/inactive features
It is quite easy to read due to large size
Other fun stuff that I am forgetting to mention
These features are currently not implemented, but I hope to add them soon:
Horizontal Effect (Including button swap)
Better icons/graphics where necessary
On the Notifications panel, something similar to the CComm panel
Other features as per popular demand...
[old] I have a "working" version of Horizon on my phone now, however I have decided not to release it since it is a humiliation in terms of appearance. I have still to fine tune, fix, and change around some stuff, as well as add in the extra icons and text, etc. Screenshots from my DASH are posted just below here in post 2. These fine tunings should take a day or two tops (assuming I have time to work on them) and hopefully I can have this theme cabbed up for V1.0!

how about custom panels? willit wor with this theme?
I have been researching how to make this theme work since probably July...I'll tell you I exhausted almost every method I could think of.
The way this theme works, is rustic...and that is all I want to say for now since I don't have a beta 'build' yet (it'll be soon though).
This theme has its limits for sure...and I can tell you for sure that the beta will only work FOR SURE on Ookba's 3VO 2.5.080809 ROM running the 96 DPI Mod, overclocked to 240 (although overclocking is optional it makes a smoother transition as will all homescreens). This is because this is the phone I am using, and the only ROM i have access to at the moment, since i don't want to go flashing everything all over again.
When i have the beta, I can't assure anyone that I will release it, there's a chance...but I would rather have this as a one-hit thing...avoid big issues, etc. I may be inclined to pull in private beta-testers...All this is still in the works....My main goal for now is to get a Beta working on my phone.
To stop dilly-dallying around the inital question, no...as of now custom panels WILL NOT work without some modifications. How about people post a couple of custom plugins (that aren't included in the screenshot) and I'll see what I can do...However, the INITIAL RELEASE will be what is in the screen-shot, and from there I will add in other panels (as popularity demands).
To sum up what I have basically said here:
1-The way these themes [will] work is very rustic, and that is all I want to say for now...
2-The first release, be it BETA or V1.0, will be fully compatible ONLY with Ookba's 3VO 2.5 ROM with the 96 DPI mod running
3-The first release, be it BETA Or V1.0, will NOT BE COMPATIBLE with custom panels without some serious modifications taking place.
4-While this may be a big downside to some, the theme will ONLY WORK with the panel set-up that i have demonstrated, and in that order...Like I said, this is a very rustic way that I am making this horizontal theme possible, and the only way to really get it totally personalized is with taking time to modify.
4-After i get a working release (as shown by the screenshots) I will work on my next theme , but will also try to put in the most popular custom panels...Adding the extra panels isn't too big a priority for me since I am using the basic panel's provided by Ookba's 3VO ROM (as shown by the screenshots)and those panels cover just about everything...Keep in mind...the first post has 3 proof-of-concepts for 3 different themes...but I have a total of 7 semi-unique themes i plan to release at some point in the not so far future...
5-I am still looking for someone with some knowledge and ability to make a simple program for Windows Mobile (for this phone and theme). If someone is interested, please PM me or Email me...
6-As far as beta testers go...I am not totally sure. I may be inclined to select a few private-beta testers, but I don't know how that is going to work. Basically, I want this to hit the community with a boom...with a working version, not a buggy disappointing version.
I hope that what I have clarified here doesn't deter people from wanting to use this theme...but hey..its the first horizontal theme for our phones that i have seen since i joined the community! Please be patient...more news will be coming soon enough...

In all honesty, until I can get hold of someone who would be willing to make a simple application for me, this theme cannot exist. Prior to posting this on the forum, i was unaware I would have to BUY Visual Studio to create applications for the unit...Without that program, i can make this work, but it would be a total disappointment and wouldn't work as I nor anyone else desires.
I really do know the method and everything, i just need someone who can put it into code and compile it for me....its like i said, a simple task!

No I am sorry, it cannot be released today...too many things popped up! Trust me I am doing my best to release this theme A.S.A.P. I will try my best to get this out before the end of the week ... this week is packed with day-long events leaving me with little time.
And like I have mentioned a couple times, i need someone who can compile a program for me, and has a basic-decent knowledge of making programs for Windows Mobile....its reallly a SIMPLE TASK! i cannot emphasize that enough. THe sooner I get someone to do that for me, the sooner everyone else gets the theme.
*disappointed*
I can understand the disappointment...the first looks probably got you thinking "oh my god a horizontal theme, how cool" or something in any variation that you would have thought of it. I do hope that these limitations will not stop you from wanting to use this theme when it become available.
Please, tell me what is so disappointing...is there a special panel you would like me to include? If there is, please post it and based off of popularity i will decide if i include it...

If you can give us some of the raw works this could be come a phenomenon amongst the graphics people around here and save you the time of creating custom panels and perhaps expand into a fully forum contributed project like ookba did when he released his 3vo transparent backgrounds?

Okay, I am not releasing this theme yet. I am sorry if this frustrates you all, but I want it to come out all at once. Call it selfish on my part, but I am hesitant to say much because i don't want imitators to come out and release something prior to me completing this because I took a good deal of my time to formulate this, and it is something that i believe will work..
I will however tell you BASICALLY how it will work, so people can start to think up how to make customized versions.
-----------------------------------------
The horizontal theme on the excalibur is, as far as my research has shown (which includes talking to the very talented DrkFngThDrgnLrd and Stylez, hours of extensive forum searching and google'ing), impossible with the methods provided by the CPR file. I have tried using Manila2D and Home2, both of which are too limited/complex to achieve a user-friendly result. Plus, both will eat up RAM, which just stinks!
Anyways...
The reason that I got this to work was because I decided to go 'rustic.' The CPR file is in control here, but I am just manipulating it. For instance, the reason you can't have custom panels or different orders EASILY is because the TAB BAR is actually 1 image, predesigned for this theme and plugin order. Basically, i am creating premade images to emulate a full horizontal theme.
Furthermore, I need a programer to make me a program that will run on startup in the background, detecting 4 specific pixels which will exist in an image overlay (allowing users to use their own background images if desired). If all 4 pixels match up to the values present in an external file (probably called pixelV.txt) then it will swap the UP with LEFT and DOWN with RIGHT and vice versa....get it? With this running, people can use SmartToolKit (which puts an overlay on the Homescreen, preventing a program to detect if it is the homescreen). With this horizontal theme, PAGES will be changed with UP/DOWN and panels with LEFT/RIGHT ... just like it should be.
An alternative, if someone can figure this out, is to have the program detect if an overlay is running. I suppose that the homescreen is called "Desktop" or something. So, from my tests with MortScript, i found that STK creates an overlay without a name...making it harder to detect as an overlay, and impossible to detect if you are on the homescreen. That is my experience...however if SOMEONE can make a program for me that will bypass this and successfully identify QUICKLY if you are on the homescreen, then swap the buttons, i will be more than grateful!
I can say, from my research that this program should use the AllKeys() function, located in the Winuser.h header file. that is really all i know as far as code goes...
-------------------------------------------------------------
Don't think that i would have released it and made it unable to be customized by the community...i have purposely saved each of the images as a copy with a PSD file so that people can modify with photoshop or similar and have access to layers. Trust me, i have been trying to make this real easy from the start, i just don't entirely have the time.
******************************************
I have released this data, although i had originally not wanted to. I hope I can trust that there won't be imitators claiming the idea their own, as I think it is right to say that my themes are the "First Official Horizontal CPR-Based Themes for the Dash".
I hope this satisfies the knowledge hungry.
I am still asking for a programmer!!!!!!!

Just to post a semi-update, my week has been stress-filled and packed with stuff to do. I do hope that on friday, when i am free, i get a chance to really get this done, however, no promises.
If i do get this done for friday, and if I do not get someone to code up this program for me, then i guess i can release, if i feel so inclined to, a beta that will not have button-swapping, meaning that to go LEFT, you would have to click UP, and to go RIGHT, you would have to click DOWN (and vice versa for both).
Now it is back to studying my marching band drill, and completing my summer assignments!!!

Just to quote but also to say that may be worth hopping over to Dev & Hack post a thread about new theme & ask for some help regarding the application "codein" needed, you will get far more experienced members and also a larger audience than here.
Hope that helps.
If i knew code and had the applicacble skillz would have tweaked it as the whole theme your woking on is different to what we normally see :)

Thanks for the heads up Stylez, I'm going to re-post this thread in Dec and Hacking...hopefully I will get the attention needed.
If people also go to the first page of the thread (unless it shows on all pages), you will see I added a poll. Please respond to it, as it will factor in to whether or not I do end up deciding to release some sort of beta by the end of the week (assuming i finish the theme CPR file).

Most definitely! Haha.
After I get this to run on my phone, i am going to CAB it (hopefully with success) and I'll see if it is possible to uninstall easily...(the installation would interact with the filesystem AND the registry, so I will see how that goes).
If anything, the file for keyswapping will be located in the Windows/StartUp folder (or atleast a LINK to it will be there), and stopping that will be as easy as removing it
I am truly aiming for a user-customizable theme here, its just a bit complicated because the Excalibur doesn't natively want to do a Horizontal Theme...

Well that'll probably come sooner than you think. I am free from Band Camp, and have only a few summer assignments left, so I will be working on this tomorrow. Since a majority of people do want a release without the functional keyswap, I will most likely release a BETA. Also, heads up because tomorrow I may toss something extra out with the HORIZON theme!!! (But i will let the suspense build haha).

Haha, being CPR based, I forgot to test ram usage. So by "less ram" do you mean, uses less or less available? I think that battery life may be affected a little since checkstatus.mscr is writing more to the registry (more processor power). But i hope that the black background saves a bit of battery (in theory). Thanks for being so active haha!

That is excellent! That is good to hear, less ram usage means possibly better battery!
Anyways, Soliloquy will be my next project since it resembles this one so much (besides so changes). The cool thing I want to try with that (to spice it up) is lighting effect overlays. Essentially I have created a transparent image that resembles stages lights . I want to put that over everything to add some color to the otherwise pale text and images. It wont be that noticable, but it will be nice.
I am happy you are getting good results so far.
Just wondering, is it worth it to leave this as a vertical theme, and create another version that will be the originally intended Horizontal Version?

Great job on this theme. When you first announced it I was wondering if you could pull it off. I've read a lot of stuff in hack/dev by drklrd about making pure .cpr themes and I figured that would be the route you took. Talk to ookba and see if you can put these on the dash3g and maple. Almost everything visually is the small as far as resolution and pixel sizes. The folks over there are dying for something grand for their phones. Keep up the good work and if you ever want to come visit the dream forum I'm thinking of a theme release over there advice would be appreciated

Yeah, sorry for now it is 96 DPI only I suppose (I will add that to requirements). After i finish a 96 DPI version, I can commence work on a non-96DPI version (even though I do love 96 DPI so much)!

Yeah, I am really hoping that the button swap turns out well. The way I see it though, unless I can get someone to code up a program for me, I am going to be spending a good deal of time on my computer this weekend haha.

Almost everything visually is the small as far as resolution and pixel sizes. The folks over there are dying for something grand for their phones. Keep up the good work and if you ever want to come visit the dream forum I'm thinking of a theme release over there advice would be appreciated
Hey, if you ever need help with anything, just ask :D I'd love to lend you a hand when you need one!

Screenshots I posted on Post #2 are from my phone. It does work. My disclaimer on the first post is only because I didn't put in a way to revert to normal (which i have figured out and will implement in the next release). As long as you backup the files I said to, you will be fine (assuming you are running 3VO, + 96 DPI + Topbar icons). Enjoy!
(I hope to release an update tomorrow...we'll see)

I got that same issue the other day. Will look into it.
What fixed it for me is clikc the MENU key (for that panel) and do a FULL UPDATE. That fixed that issue for me. Haven't had a problem since.

Hey, sorry for lack of update like I had hoped...anyways this is what I am up to
1)School work (priorities, priorities, priorities! :p)
2)Horizon: fixing a little issue with registry (when updating from the Horizon B1 i uploaded to the Horizon B2 i have not uploaded yet. Expect next release to be Beta3)
2)Simple Fun: Hmm thats new! I have posted a Proof Of Concept of the first of a couple VERTICAL themes. These themes will hopefully take less time (as i wont have to deal with a swapper, which I am currently 'working' on!)
3)Boredom: yeah, sorta bored (because I can't work on these themes for hours on end...it becomes tedious) , so if anyone has any cool ideas for skins that they would love to see become a reality, PM me, and I will see what I can do :p

Hey All,
This is disappointing as much on my end as it may be on the end of people who used the Beta 1 of my Horizon Skin, but I must put it out there...
The horrible truth is that, as it probably already seems, I am stopping my work on these themes temporarily. I do hope to rejuvenate the lives of the Excalibur through a new look , but to attempt to create a 'revolutionary' CPR with the lack of decent documentation is too time consuming. In trying to make a horizontal theme, I was trying to do what Drkfngthdrgnlrd (a much more knowledgable person on the CPR file) was unable to do as of yet. I am taking on a different project that will hopefully replace this thread upon completion.
I don't want to let anyone down, so I am making a new project idea that may just simplify everything!
Thank You all for understanding.
Sincerely,
Max B.

PS: For those who want to assist in this new project, help would be greatly appreciated. You can contact me via PM and I will give you news through there. I need people with some skill in the .NET CF 3.5 (C#).

Thanks for the link.
I have to admit that I was quite surprised to see this up after so long...
I am in the process of learning C++ (and expanding my knowledge of C#), so i SUPPOSE that maybe, one day, when I can do C++ well enough, I can revisit this and make something out of it...
no assurances tho!
(If someone can get me some of the files involved in that OmniaPro layout, that could help me out a lot!)
