Have been following many of the excellent guides on here on how to upgrade one's ROM to a custom or more up to date one.

The phone I have is a Ubiquio (mwg) 501, and I've been trying to run one of the excalibur custom roms using the installer that comes with it.

I have ran the SDA_Applicationunlock.exe program, as well as the .cab version which runs on the phone itself. Neither reported any errors, so am assuming that it is unlocked.

Then I run the batch program to start the upgrade process, and once I get to the point where I run JumpSPL, as soon as i press 'continue' the phone just hangs, and then the program on the PC says it can't connect to the phone. Have tried different usb ports, and master reset the phone before starting, etc etc but no avail.

Can anybody help?

Many thanks!

Ubiquio (mwg) 501 (http://www.mwg.com/mwg-501.aspx)?????

Is it a Dash/Excalibur? No it's not all you will get is a brick if you do flash, never flash a ROM not meant for the phone...

I thought the Ubiquio 501 and Excalibur were the same thing, just different branding. Well that would explain it; any ideas what this 501 is?

No idea but the specifications are different from what i could see... Also the layout of keys and housing is different.

I don't know if this is a daft question as I'm quite new to the scene, but is there some sort of 'universal rom' that will work on any windows mobile 6 phone? i'm thinking of it as per a PC windows installation, drivers, etc can be added later. Or do they need drivers? Who knows. Or, is there some sort of app that will tell me exactly what type of phone I have?

Cheers
