While at Seychelles in August 2009 I have got low cost internet connection using a local SIM. Here are the details.
SIM: AIRTEL. When you buy it you have to fill a form to register yourself.
The SIM has no cost, you just pay the first credit. I bought a 50RS (2.5€) one.
The only VERY IMPORTANT PARAMETER to get it working is APN=airtelgprs.com (No user name, no password). This information, at the time of my writing, was not available neither in the small manual that comes with the SIM nor in the Airtel web site.
I haven’t calculated the cost for MB but in 3 weeks I spent the equivalent of 5€ to check some news/weather/social-network websites, sink 3 emails accounts and update RSS feeds about 4 times in a day.
Recharge cards are sold in almost every small shops present in the islands. They come in value of 25, 50 and 100RS (100RS = 5€).
Be aware that often AIRTEL has promotions, advertised with SMS, that double the recharged credit amount.
