any chances for eclair 2.1 for our device.
vogue forum has it. fully working.
check here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5486428&postcount=1

To whet your appetite, yes, there's a chance. We have a development branch for eclair in work right now. It boots, but still has lots of bugs we need to work out. Hoping it'll be ready soon, but development is slow. Fear not though, it's coming. :)

P.S. Seeing the Nexus One boot splash on our phones is really quite cool! :)

It *may* be possible to port that, though we'll need to of course have some source code changes for our devices. Whether all that extra stuff in eclair will run on our devices smoothly is yet to be determined. My experiences with a base install of eclair so far shows it pretty memory hungry, which doesn't bode well for us. There's still a lot of work left to do on it though, so we should be able to get it functional. But again, things like the animated wallpapers may be too much, we'll have to see.

thanks for ur response..@ Darkstar

i tried directly VOGUE ECLAIR BUILD build on ELFIN...but it denies installations with error code 270 as usual..then i tried with other hard methods and i was unsuccessful.

I think VOGUE and ELFIN have Lots of TECHNICAL differences..lol..

Looking forward for u guys to see it in ur free time..

HAPPY SUNDAY

* may b we can have working fully ready with less EXTRA features that will also serve the purpose..as most of the applications r nt required at this point of time..with gradual development ..that can be incorporated ..

From WM, delete the file "rootfs" from "/Storage Card/linux". If you don't see that file, delete rootfs.img instead. Then boot back in and it should start installing from scratch.

I'm having trouble installing/booting for the first time Wing. It freezes on the screen with all those line codes after the configuration setup, the last of the lines being:

switch_root: can't open 'dev/console': No such file or directory

No matter how much time I leave it, it won't get past this screen. I'm uninstalled and installed again, but got the same results. I installed both cabs (wing-linux-0.4.2-rootfs then wing-linux-0.4.2-elf) to the storage card, so I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks in advance for any help, and sorry if this is a stupid question!

I would suggest trying the solution I posed for enekolo:

From WM, delete the file "rootfs" from "/Storage Card/linux". If you don't see that file, delete rootfs.img instead. Then boot back in and it should start installing from scratch.

Could just be a partial installation happened, and it's now trying to boot something that isn't possible to boot. Give that a go.

Everything worked like a charm! I have a booting Android on my HTC-touch-Elf! Minor note, to get out of locked screen, press the menu key (middle joystick) twice. Everything else, include USB networking, works fine. (You can also ssh into the thing).

Wireless and Bluetooth are not working (as expected).

Thanks guys! will keep in touch.

Hi, I'm on Windows 7, i downloaded USBLAN (the Ethernet Gadget drivers linked on the first post) but i think that's not compatible: during the installation, it says that my operating system is not supported, and, when i plug the phone in, it doesn't install the drivers :(

What can i do?

However, where do i set the settings for the network card?

A: Please switch off the Sim Password on your phone using Windows Mobile first before coming into Android.

Hey is it not possible to port VOGUE ROM's tom ELF, cause the hardware is almost the same & those people already have ANDROID running on it..!!!

darkstar62
9th March 2010, 04:30 PM
The Vogue has hardware much more similar to the Kaiser -- a Qualcomm 400mHz processor with a completely different architecture. It also has twice the RAM of the Elfin, so they can run Eclair easily.

I have been toying with building Eclair for our devices, and what I've found so far is that a barebones install of Eclair runs miserably. Maybe with heavy tweaking we can get it to work, but you're not going to have live wallpapers or much bling -- we simply don't have enough RAM for it.

On my own HTC Hero, the Eclair 2.1 ROMS is not even stable, battery life is terrible, it can be as bad as 10% drop every hour, but its getting better, not for everyday use.

Still on Android 1.5 still, nothing mind-bogging but its very stable and everything simply works.

Thats why 2.1 for Wing Linux is not released yet, basically 2.1 and 1.5 is just different kernals.

Hey everybody
I'm interested to startup Android OS on my pretty old device called RoverPC S7 (Rover is producing in Russia, only, as I understood). It's the clone of Lenovo ET-860.
I found Wing Linux for TI OMAP850-based devices, including not only devices such as HTC and T-Mobile.
But, unfortunally, there were not so many configs for different devices, I tryed the default.txt for HTC Herald, because it has the same processor, of course, and the same RAM value.
So I've installed the main Wing Linux *.cab, and a pre-set for Herald. Start-Programms-Wing Linux-Run.
The were not so many words in console, (I was expecting 2000+, as it's written in thread), then the screen blinked one or two times and it turned black. I thought I should wait a little, but I didn't and rebooted it.
Here is the question - does the main idea of launching Android in a little file "default.txt"? is? Or..?

P.S.: I'm afraid of posting in wrong thread, and I think I allready did :S
P.P.S.: And sorry for my bad English ;)

For those wondering, we're still alive, we've just slowed down a lot. All our primary developers have become really busy, so not much work is being done anymore (and being that there's so few primary developers, that means we're very slow indeed).

Unfortunately, I can't nail down a release date for 0.5, as it's waiting on things that right now I haven't been able to get enough time to work.

If anyone here would like to take up development, your efforts would be very much appreciated. Without more help from developers, I'm afraid things will remain slow for a while...

i know that especially you have been working hard on this (i've read the dev threads).. so could you present us anytime soon with a sound patch as to at least be able to complete phone calls? this is, i think the main use of more than 90% of people visiting this page and it would be a great step towards using android as the main OS on our elfs/elfins. restecpa

Yes but it works with the HTC Elfin as it has the same amount of memory like the HTC Vogue, HTC Elfin it's clocked slower, so if you don't run everything at once, it will work:rolleyes:

Lol you don't get it little limp.

Guys,

That ROM will not work with our devices. Here's the reasons:

The ROM is for phones such as the HTC Vogue. These devices have a Qualcomm 400mhz processor. Our devices, in contrast, have a 200mHz OMAP850. The two processors are not the same, so the base kernel from that project wouldn't even boot.
Given that we have a working kernel from the Wing Linux project, we could conceivably copy the rest of the ROM over and use it as it is. Trouble with this though is that it makes some assumptions about services provided by the kernel, which are necessarily different on our devices than the Vogue.

The Android we use is modified to work with our kernel. We could do the same modification for the Vogue, but we'd need source, and time. This is essentially what the port to 2.x entails -- we can't just copy over the ROM and expect it to work. It may boot, but you'd find most of your hardware wouldn't work.

Does that make sense?

ok, believe it or not, the best thing that i found about android is how it handles the battery and i'm not talking about power management which is marvelously absent. i have some spare batteries for my elf which winmo just won't charge (it writes on them that they're for another compatible HTC model). android does :).
another thing: in winmo, if you're charging and pull out the battery the phone dies. in android it keeps going and you can change a full one with an empty one to charge without shutting the phone off :) that's nice
however, if you remove the sim, with both OS, the phone shuts down with or without restarting
anyway.. i'll really say a prayer and put a good word for you guys with the matrix architect if you manage to fix the sound support :)

This project is DEAD!!!

Are you sure??

darkstar62
2nd July 2010, 02:47 PM
We're not dead, I assure you. Here's what's happening:

Work on getting sound working is progressing. We've had lots of success, with at least two people attacking the problem from separate angles, both arriving at a nearly 100% working solution. They're working together to try and make things ready for us to put out. Hopefully that will be soon.
Besides that, LOTS of our time has been spent in getting all our work pushed upstream into the mainline Linux kernel. Having that done will allow us to be much more agile when it comes to responding to new versions of Android, because we won't need to worry practically at all about the kernel at that point.
Some effort has been spent in getting the 2.x versions of Android working, but that effort won't really kick into high gear until the kernel work is done.

So yeah, we haven't had a release in a while, but that doesn't mean we're dead. Getting this stuff into mainline Linux is hard, and time consuming (not to mention slow). It will pay off hugely in the end though, not only for running Android on the devices, but for running other distributions as well (Maemo, OpenMoko, Debian, ...)

So don't despair -- we're not dead! Though of course any developers that want to help out are more than welcome to get in on it. Grab the sources, start playing around, get something to work, and submit a patch! Although it may not be included immediately, I never forget a patch that's been submitted -- it will be included.

Cheers

You could always try and help with the code, or just say thank you for all the hard work they are putting in.

Is this using the one from this thread posted a few posts ago, or is this from the wing linux site?

There are defaults set which are automagically used when there is no method of text input. It says this on one of the screens IIRC.

Are they the files to try and get Froyo working? I haven't downloaded them but may sacrifice a phone on my lunch if the files aren't too big (limited download on my mobile broadband :()

Does anybody know where that file oringinally came from? Was it taken from the vogue section and posted here? I can see no mention of it running on the WingLinux site.

jus had a look at the files. mainly default.txt
they seem to be for the vogue.

I get this from:
vogue-ts.XMIN (touchscreen calib settings for vogue)
set RAMSIZE 0x07000000 (that works out to about 117 mb or something)

You could try putting in the files apart from Default.txt - that may allow it to work, but I don't know and haven't tried it.

You can't install an Android Rom on your elf. You can read the first post of this thread, download the files, and install as described, and run it from Haret which boots winmo out and replaces with Android - until you restart your device.

darkstar62
5th August 2010, 04:41 PM
Guys --

You act as if porting Android to the Elf is an easy task. Let me tell you why there isn't a ROM for Elf yet.

First, absolutely EVERY working Android phone (released or otherwise) uses a different processor and board architecture than the elf. Most of the ported devices are CLOSE ENOUGH to the released devices that a port is easy.

The elf does not fit this. The elf has VASTLY different hardware, and is only now starting to have Linux support. Nevermind Android, which isn't even designed to run on devices like the elf.

Those ports you see out there? They were made primarily by ripping the ROM from another similar Android device and copying it on. THAT WILL NOT WORK for us. Believe me, I've tried.

Second, for those complaining about lack of sound, bluetooth, or other hardware...that stuff is all controlled by the Linux kernel, NOT Android. As I mentioned before, we're just starting to have decent Linux kernel support, but there's two or three people tops working on it with any regularity. Expecting things like sound drivers to materialize out of nowhere, when we don't have specs or any help from the hardware manufacturers is totally unrealistic. Of course there's nothing stopping you from contributing to make it happen.

THIS STUFF IS HARD TO DO! We're trying to load an operating system onto a device that was never intended to run it. Further, we're trying to cram an OS that wasn't designed to run on hardware like ours. It won't happen over night, and complaining certainly doesn't help. If you want to get involved, great! We'd be glad to have you. But if all you want to do is run Android on your device and not contribute a thing to it, please consider buying one of the many available Android phones instead of contributing negative comments. All the comments do is demoralize what few developers we do have.

Let me reiterate -- No currently available Android ROMs will work with the elf. Wing Linux has the only Android image right now that will, and we're SERIOUSLY low on active developers. So be patient or contribute. It'll happen, but not over night.

Now. If you'd like to help us, great! We're always in need of testers for all the devices. And, if you're feeling brave, you can help us with code. Even if these aren't your things, we need help in a lot of other areas too. Our documentation is basically non-existent. Management of the website is done completely by me, so it's not always up to date. And that's just a couple things we need help with. So please, give us a hand! It'll make doing this easier, and we'll have a nice system that everyone can use.

For those who want to try coding, take a look at our development site (http://wing-linux.sourceforge.net/trac/wiki/Development) -- it should hopefully give you what you need to get started (and if it doesn't, we need to update it!)

Sorry it has come to this darkstar62 - Although on the plus side I am willing to help (i need to read up on a few things before I will be more use to anyone)

If there is anything I can do for documentation give me a shout, I only have a bit of time in my lunch, but as I said before in this thread I will be willing to help - even if that is just to explain to people in here things and point them in the right direction (I have been trying to but some people really make me wonder why they are even on these forums)

I want to get an understanding of how Android works behind the scenes before I try and help code etc - I have seen that you have linked up with another group, and that testing needs to be done for the elf. I will send you a PM in a min with my e-mail in - at present I don't have an IRC client but I will try and get one sorted so I can access on my lunch at work.

hi all
i hv been a silent spectator to this android on elf/elfin scene for about 3-4 months now.... trying out the builds n fiddling with them... i just had a thought in mind that can the psfreedom that is the ps3 jailbreak which was recently ported into android devices and very recently to the htc hd2(i.e. by running android just lyk we run it here on our phones) be ported into this version of android...?? cuz the hack requires the device plugged it at all tyms so better port to older devices which wont hamper our daily use....

thanks ..

if ever we root it we cannot use the psfreedom made for the other htc devices as most of the ones that have psfreedom use the mUsb driver while the touch/vogue uses the msm75k driver.... it has been ported to the msm72k driver which is very similar to ours..... but the code out there is completely out of my bounds to port it to the elf/elfin/vogue.....

well there is a good news.... the psfreedom developers hv added our phones to the psfreedom device compatibility list with the development status as unknown... so if people out there start noticing it then a port should be coming soon.....
the device compatibility list : http://psfreedom.com/wiki/index.php?title=Device_compatibility_list

so the best we can do now is wait and wait and wait......

I added the vogue to the list to be an eyesore, and hopefully get someone motivated to take care of it.

I listed it as unknown, then someone changed it to in progress. So it's looking good. I'd sure like to find a use for this POS vogue and take care of my POS PS3 issues at the same time.

I'll answere my own question, after some hour spent searching, i finally did find it out, this is how to get Mobile network, carrier, then you can call, send sms and surf with android.

1. Go into Windows Mobile, go to phone or press call button (green one) --> menu --> option and go to tab "PIN/PIN2" and disable PIN from there..

Hope this helps, now you can call from android

I haven't checked this thread for some time and look how far you guys have gotten already! I guess I just have to try this out myself soon.

The current status tells that Wireless isn't working yet. But with that usblan program you can apparently setup a network connection over USB to android. Can't android use that same connection (perhaps with internet connection sharing enabled in Windows) to connect to Internet?

It worked!

I might have messed up the screen calibration though (if there is one to click the top-right corner, then i tapped twice on the first top-left by accident). It seems to work, but I'm not completely sure.

But unless I'm missing something, I cannot choose 'Power off' in the popup. I think I tried all buttons and none of them seems to work as a 'choose this/activate' key and using the stylus doesn't work for this menu (or it doesn't really work at all, see above). I can only go up&down this short list with the joystick keys.

So, what key haven't I tried yet, or is there only the option of pulling out the battery pack? doh, I can just do a soft reset.

Hold down the hang up button? This is detailed in the first post. You may find you need to tweak some setting sin spare parts etc, as I had an issue with one of mine that holding down hang up would lock android, and bring up the menu. All this meant was I'd then have to unlock and then press the button to turn off.

Also, for the screen calibration, you can modify a file to reset it, this is included in the first post.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough I guess. I only mentioned the calibration issue to note that I couldn't use the touchscreen to choose entries in menus. I guess I should have mentioned that I already fixed it the second time.

Key Commands!
Green button - Back
Red button - End Call
Center (joystick) - Menu
Up (joystick) - Up
Down (joystick) - Down
Left (joystick) - Left
Right (joystick) - Right
Camera - Back
Sound Up - Volume Up
Sound Down - Volume Down

And further down it does list the red/end button to open the Power menu. That works just fine. But no button on my phone will let me 'select'/'activate' any entry in the 'Phone options' menu the red button opens. Only by using the touch screen I can select an option.

I'd think the center/Menu button would act as a 'select' in this situation. Though maybe I'm reflecting my WM use on Android too much.

By the way, thanks for that 'Spare Parts' tip. That did make it easier to go open the 'Phone options' menu.

I've only started Android like this 3 times now. And two times I closed it using the Power Off function. But both those times using the power button wouldn't turn the phone back on until I removed and put back the battery pack. But maybe this is what's meant with the not working ' "Power Off" phone'. Soft-resetting while still in Android, as mentioned in the start of the first post, did work just fine though.

Also when I return to Windows Mobile, the clock will have an offset, continuing where it left off, even though Android kept the time itself just fine. (Edit: only seems to happen when I try to power off - so above comment applies here too, might not 'supposed' to work yet - works fine when using a soft reset)

Just reporting the issues I encounter.

ahh okay, sorry fi I misunderstood part of your post.

The center button should act as a select/enter/confirm button from what I can remember.

One thing I will say is don't base your view on android on this port. Whilst it is great that the guys are working on this and have a build running, it is no way an indication fo what it can do. I use Android everyday on my main phone, and it blows winmo out of the water in every way!

Oh no worries. My next phone won't be WM7 or an iPhone, so it's either Android or a different Linux based phone. After all I can only call with the current version and it's only Android 1.5, while 2.2 is out now. But it is certainly nice to try it for a moment.

Thanks for your responses.

Welcome to the Discussion and Development Lounge for Wing Linux (http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/wing-linux/wiki).

Click here (http://qik.com/video/2775388) to view the booting of android on HTC Touch Elfin during the HTC Hero Launch (http://jeremygohblog.com/2009/09/06/htc-hero-launch/) event in Singapore with the CodeAndroid.org (http://CodeAndroid.org/) team.
- Running of 0.4pre3 (Updating that soon)
In Short, this project is about porting Google's Android (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_(operating_system)) OS (Which is running under Linux) into our devices.
This project is still in BETA, and there are many features not available yet.
We believe that we will move from strength to strength.

This thread is originated from the Linwizard, Now What? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4439572#post4439572) thread. As we found a new goal, we decided a new page is necessary.

--

How this works?
Windows Mobile runs on your concurrent phone, so when Android is being boot up on the device, it will actually 'kick off' the RAM working concurrently on Windows Mobile and use the entire RAM for linux itself.
After soft-reseting, everything will go back to normal.

Updates:
Milestone: Release 0.5 for Wing Linux

This release will primarily focus on upgraded system components.
Linux Kernel 2.6.32 or later (aligned to upstream)
Audio/wifi support
Power Management
Full support for the HTC Artemis

0.4.2 Released!
Features include:
- Runs on Android V1.5r4 (Cupcake)
- Additionally, 0.4.2 includes the ability to reboot your phone from Android -- simply hold down End and select Power Off. Your phone will reboot.

Wanted
Developers for Sound needed for device.

How to get started with Wing Linux?
- Backup your SD Card and Phone before doing anything!
We have a few cases with wiped out data, better do it, guys!
1) Go to the Wing Linux's Website (http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/wing-linux/wiki)
2) Get Wing Linux's 0.4.2 (here (http://sourceforge.net/projects/wing-linux/files/Wing%20Linux/0.4.2/cabs/wing-linux-0.4.2-rootfs.cab/download))
3) Get our very own HTC Elf/Elfin Cab (http://sourceforge.net/projects/wing-linux/files/Wing%20Linux/0.4.2/cabs/wing-linux-0.4.2-elf.cab/download) (Dont Worry, what you press on the phone will be what you get!)
4) Install both Wing Linux 0.4.2 cab and the Elf cab in your storage card (So make sure you have at least 512mb free storage space in your memory card)

How to get Google Android started?
1) After installing the cab as mentioned above, go to programs, and start Wing Linux
2) Press run!
3) After seeing 20000++ lines of code, you will reach an install screen (which is blue in colour)
4) You will take sometime there as our phones do not have a physical keyboard. So wait for it to install.
5) After that, the calibration utility will start, make sure you tap the right corners of the screen (The calibration process is only ONCE, so once you click the wrong corners, good luck, we need more steps to get it back working!)
6) Android will start loading and you are ready to get blasted!

Key Commands!
Green button - Back
Red button - End Call
Center (joystick) - Menu
Up (joystick) - Up
Down (joystick) - Down
Left (joystick) - Left
Right (joystick) - Right
Camera - Back
Sound Up - Volume Up
Sound Down - Volume Down

How to copy files / install apps into Android using Windows
1) Install this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=84122&d=1209554226) 'Ethernet Gadget' Drivers (In order to let the phone talk to the PC)
- It works for both Windows XP and Vista (There will be prompts here and there)
- Settings for network card
ip: 10.100.0.2
mask: 255.255.0.0
2) Download WinSCP (http://winscp.net/)
3) Install em!
4) Key in the following settings into WinSCP:
- Server: 10.100.0.1
- Username: root
- Password: wing
5) To install Google Android Apps
- Make sure to download the app first!
6) Put the .apks to /system/app/directory through WinSCP
- (ex: scp xxx.apk root@10.100.0.1:/system/data/)
7) Done! It will show up in the application list!

What is not working yet?
- Camera
- Sound
- Wireless
- Bluetooth
- Standby Mode
- "Power Off" phone.

From the status of this project, you CAN use this phone for ..
- Surfing GPRS (Needs some setting up to do)
- SMS
- Calender
- Contacts

QNA

Q: Which Device Can Run This?
A: A GSM HTC Touch / It works for both Elf and Elfin (Yay!)
If you use a CDMA version of HTC Touch, please go to your Vogue forum.

Q: Is my phone Elf or Elfin?
A: Go to Start > Settings > System > Device Information > Hardware tab, if the 'RAM size' shows 64MB it's an Elf, if it shows 128MB for RAM and 256MB for Flash then it's the Elfin. (This doesn't matter as Wing Linux is able to run on both, just added this question for reference only)

Q: How big is this thing?
A: It is about 300mb (Estimated), as the image is already 250mb.

Q: My phone cant connect to the network
A: Please switch off the Sim Password on your phone using Windows Mobile first before coming into Android.

Q: How to get Data (GPRS) working on your device
A: Go to your settings menu in Android and change your APN options, you can get that from your carrier.

Q: How to re-calibrate the screen?
A: Go to storage card, than go this folder called 'linux', than open default.txt. Look for the line that says "set CMDLINE", add "reset_ts" to it.
Remember to remove that once you're satisfied with the calibration.
(If Microsoft Word asks you to save it in their format, always say no)

Q: If I am using the Herald Cab and running on the outdated 0.4pre3, how can I get the correct key mappings?
A: See here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4539762&postcount=111)

Q: I have some questions about Android
A: Post it here and I should be able to respond as I am using an Android phone at the moment.

Q: I have more questions ...
A: Post it here and someone kind will be able to respond. Do not PM me. Thanks :D

Q: I wish the hang out and chat about Wing Linux on the net in real time.
A: Join us on the IRC: #wing-linux on freenode.org

If you read the first post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4439597&postcount=1

A bit down you can read that 'wireless' is one of several features not working yet (might be confusing since a bit above that it lists 'Audio/wifi support', but that doesn't go for this model yet).

Hey Jeremy, Wondering if you can help me out.

I have read through the entire thread here... I am having the same issues as the quote above. No one answered this question so far.

I have downloaded the latest 4.2 rootfs.cab and installed it. I then installed the elf.cab. These were both installed onto a 4gb SD card with nothing else on it so there is definitely no space issues. When I go to start >> programs and click on wing linux to start running I get the error "An EXCEPTION while reading from address XXXXXXXX error. The X being a random string of characters and numbers. When I click the 'OK' another one pops up again and again. The only way to get out of this is to soft reset.

I have tried just about everything and read this entire thread... what am I doing wrong?

Hello i have the same problem here. i have search everywhere and i haven't found anything.
anyone can help??

Hi Team,

Im Johnny from Phil, am a newbie with a HTC Elfin and i have really very limited knowledge with the gadget world. Now, i did install the linux by following all the instructions here (including the original thread). Booted fine however, problem is the touch screen is not functioning properly, let say if iam using the dialer and im trying to press the no. 9 a diff no. will be entered in the phone, navigating is also a big problem whether with a stylus or just by swiping my finger. Hope the team can help me... your response is highly appreciated. Thanks!!

*pardon the terms i used, am really not familiar with the tech terms.:o

check the main thread in rom dev. there is a way to get it to re calibrate your phone on boot. You need to modify a file. I forget which but it is in there.

Hi,
Anyone has tried using HTC touch Elfin as PS3 Jailbreak/Downgrade device using linux? Will it work?

Pretty sure you need a custom bootloader on for that which I am not sure exists for the elf, considering we launch android from WinMo, opposed to from NAND.

How to copy files / install apps into Android using Windows
1) Install this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=84122&d=1209554226) 'Ethernet Gadget' Drivers (In order to let the phone talk to the PC)
- It works for both Windows XP and Vista (There will be prompts here and there)
- Settings for network card
ip: 10.100.0.2
mask: 255.255.0.0
2) Download WinSCP (http://winscp.net/)
3) Install em!
4) Key in the following settings into WinSCP:
- Server: 10.100.0.1
- Username: root
- Password: wing
5) To install Google Android Apps
- Make sure to download the app first!
6) Put the .apks to /system/app/directory through WinSCP

7) Done! It will show up in the application list!

Installed both cabs, reboot into Linux with all htose lines, loaded Android ... work like a charm ...
Reporting after some rough testing:
- SMS can't get it working, due to keep on force close
- shown 156MB in phone memory (check from settings)
- photo album can't get it working (auto close, guess is a force close too)
- Can't get Internet working ... hook on DiGi Malaysia, APN="diginet" (used to work on my other Android phone)
- a lot smoother than previous release (the 1st ever working I found in this forum) I've tested

can someone share how to get data service to work? my plan is a 3G package (yeah if working it should downgrade to EDGE)

hi,
I have a question,
What happen if we upgrade the ROM to WM6.1 and then install android?
or upgrading the radio version?
Is it solving the sound or Wi-Fi problems?

(I have HTC Touch ELF 0100 with 256 rom 128 ram.)

Thanks to the developers, I have run Android on my htc touch ELF0100 and it waz amazing.
but it is not applicable and I can not use it just for test.
It has some problem in addition to Sound and Wi-fi
1- the gprs(internet) dose not work even after setting the APN.
2- The battery status not worked and always is 100%
3- photo gallery doesn't work

I hope to be developed in the very soon future.

Half well crossed, yet to go...Anyhow Thanks.

Sorry to ask, but a post after two month, r u people still interested in the project, hope I am not lonely in desert, Please note there r so many people like me are roaming here. Buying a android phone is not a solution to a wandering technical mind. Hope u people will understand.

Not seen much movement on this in the 9 months. Website has moved to http://wing-linux.sourceforge.net/ and still the same version. All links seem to be working.

I know you said buying an android phone is not an option to the technically minded. I think you are wrong. The elfs time has long passed. The devices chipset is not natively support, and even then the functionality and android experience would be shocking due to the spec of the device. In my semi technical mind. That seems to be clear is not going to happen, and even if it did, it would not be a daily driver.

For people still trying to run this I'd suggest you head to the site and ask there and jumping into their irx or posting in the forums. I don't think I post too much here. The OP was not a dev of this from what I remember, and the dev of the android distribution were doing in spare time and have commented that it was getting harder to try to get time to work on it.

You can get second hand android phones for fairly cheap nowadays, I'd recommend that.

Sorry to poss on your bonfire people. If you read the whole thread all of this would have been covered, granted it is a bit long to bother with!

Back to my whole. Bye.

The battery and GPS were known issues btw.
