I don't know how i forgot to tell you about this but i have written an app which is perfect for Bluetooth watch owners (i have the mbw-150 myself).

it's a nice software designed to make sure you won't lose your phone and it uses Bluetooth technology to achieve that. it works flawlessly with my mbw-150. give it a try:

Correct me if I am wrong here ... but, OpenWatch also accomplishes this via vibration alert when the bluetooth connection is lost. Nice try at advertising in a competing app's thread though.

OpenWatch has nothing to do with vibrating the clock. The clock automatically vibrates when it loses connection with the phone. My app is not competing with OpenWatch at all! I use OpenWatch myself on my HD2 and enjoying every moment of it.
OpenWatch cannot, however, reveal the location of your phone incase it gets stolen, for instance. Also, my app is compatible with all kinds of BT devices, not just MBW's. It is perfect for MBW users since they carry the watch on their wrist all the time.
Cheers.

The bolded part interests me. How do you accomplish this.

it does that by vibrating the phone and sounding a powerfull alarm, similar to a fire alarm, thus exposing the thief.

I just switched to the Thunderbolt from the Droid and have noticed that when I receive a call, it will show up at Private Number on my watch but on my phone it shows the contact that's calling.. Anyone else run into this problem? or know of a solution?

Thanks!

Is this the best place to get support for openwatch for Android?

First comment: great program, brilliant idea!!! Thanks for you efforts.

I have just received a MBW-150, and am using it with a dell streak on 2.2, with openwatch 1.5.

Initially the watch was receiving full notifications with email subject and a few lines of content, and same for sms. Working great.

After playing with some settings (and a few crashes), now only a message indicator shows up on the watch for email - no subject, sender, content etc., and no notification appears for for sms.

I have reversed the setting changes as best I can tell and same thing.

Thoughts?

Cheers,
- Paul.

hi

after suffering from my 2nd MBW-150 display dimming to the point that i cant read it anymore i cant bring myself to buy another SE watch but will miss it.

I have been looking at the fake sony watch (lm-958)

i know that openwatch supports it but i cant seem to find out what functions that are supported

the only ones i'm bothered about are

1. Vibrating on a call and displying the caller or number

2. vibrating on sms and email and also displaying some or all of the body text not just a mail icon.

could you let me know if the lm watch can do this under openwatch

thanks

I'm using a Evo 4G with the LM958.

Your issues:
1. Vibrating on a call and displying the caller or number
Openwatch will vibrate and display number or caller name if in phonebook.

2. vibrating on sms and email and also displaying some or all of the body text not just a mail icon.
Openwatch will vibrate on SMS. It will not display any text, but will display mail icon + incoming txt number or caller name if in phonebook.

I'm using the latest market version of OW on my EVO 4g connected to the LM958 Fake Sony. Once I’m paired and connected, everything works fine until I receive a notification. Afterwards, android becomes unstable (random vibrations, very slow live wallpaper, screen distortion, no usable functionality). You have to remove battery to reset. I have to uninstall openwatch to regain normal performance. The same issue exists on a friend’s EVO with the LM958. Is anyone experiencing this on other phones?

Sorry to give you bad news but they are only available from sony and to make it worse you have to send it to them to fit you cannot buy one from them.

I used to get a week or my with my MBW-150 and a Sprint Touch Pro and Touch Pro II. Since switching to the Evo, my battery life dropped to six hours, almost to the minute.

I bought two new batteries (because the outrageous $9.67 shipping was the same for one or two) from here: http://www.thebatterystore.com/batteryforsonyericssonbluetoothwatchmbw-100andmbw-150.aspx but the battery life is still exactly the same. :(

I have seen no confirmation or denial one way or the other, but I think it MUST be something different with Android.

It doesn't seem to be Android, since on my HD2 the battery lasts several weeks on both WinMo and Android. So it probably is device (or Rom, Stack, Radio...) dependent.

I've had the same six hour life on Evo stock, stock rooted, Myn's 2.2, and MikG 1.03. Maybe my "new" batteries are old stock and they're no better than the original.

If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it. I reset and re-paired my MBW-150 with my Evo last night.

Ever since I got this phone, Bluetooth on the watch would turn off when the battery went dead almost seven hours to the minute from when I turned it on. Today I made it through the whole day and the battery meter didn't budge. :D

Mine lasts for a few months!
...with BT turned off :(
The display has become too dim. Can only use it indoors(and even then sometimes not) and BT is not working properly on the current ROM of my HD2.

I have searched for a new watch, but on ebay there are only a few MBW-150 and there is no executive edition. And I would prefer a watch that lasts a few years anyway ;)
So I looked for alternatives, but found none. I just want a watch, that looks good (and for me that means it has to look like a normal (good looking) watch), can display text (I don't need pictures or color display... just plain text is fine for me), has a few buttons (touchscreen would probably be fine too) for music playback etc., lasts at least a few days without charging, and should not be too expensive. So far only the MBW-150 meets all the requirements. But a requirement that applies to nearly all electronics, it doesn't meet: Lasting at least a few years or having a warranty.

Moneytoo surely is...as Chris Ziegler's review shows, the code shipping with the MetaWatch is none other than OpenWatch:

http://thisismynext.com/2011/07/20/metawatch-prototype-review/

I was a longtime donating user of SmartWatch for WM with my MBW-150 until the display gave out - that was a sad day. I'm disappointed that Android doesn't allow OpenWatch to see the unread email count in the built-in mail client, as I don't use Gmail. But it should be good out of the box for caller ID and SMS.

After a few weeks, the pattern seems to be: From the phone, un-pair the watch, do a reset of the phone, and re-pair. The watch makes it through a few days with no visible battery drop. After that, the battery again starts dying again and is dead seven hours after I take it off the charger. An un-pair, reset, and re-pair "resets" everything for another few days.

Is anyone else seeing this and/or have a fix?

I have just changed from HTC WIN Mobile device using the SmartWatchM to Samsung Galaxy II. Was glad to see the watch was easy to connect to OpenWatch.
Now I am sad to discover the watch battery life decreased from more than 7 days to 3 hours. Something wrong with the power management. Watch reset does not help. Moreover after I recharge the watch and switch on the BT, it does not re-connect to phone unless I repair the pairing.

Second issue is I am not able to answer the calls by double or any kind press (option to answer is selected, it just does not work). I am able to receive notifications, and control the music player.
I just wonder if this functionality was moved to a different button? I used to reject calls by double pressing right upper button.
My watch is the Music Edition and it works well with the Win Mobile phone

does anybody know how to deactivate autostart? Regardless what i am doing, the option to disable it seems not to work. I used 1.5.0 from the market, then 1.5.1 from the website - no change. I'm trying to get a handle on what the current issues are with the "cheap" LM watches. I've read back in the thread to April, it's a rocky road.

Current, you can get what appears to be an LM watch some places (http://www.dealextreme.com/p/0-8-oled-bluetooth-wrist-watch-with-caller-id-display-and-vibrating-alert-23915#open full view) for $59... not bad considering the "real" SE watches go bad in 2 years.

Anyway, call someone tell me if with the latest software if:

1) Display Txt Message contents
2) Alerts on all notifications
3) Blacklisting some notifications

Thank you!!!!

Can anybody tell me how to stop and start the service correctly?

For example when i am at home for many hours and dont want any notifications to my watch because i am not wearing it.

I tried many things but either i get after reconnecting all notifications, which came in the time the watch was off, at once or in tje future none at all.
After that mostly i have to repair the devices.

So which is the right way? First bt off on the watch or first on the phone, and then the watch?

Or is it a bug?

If anyone is after one of these, I have the black strap/orange hands model that I'm thinking of selling. Mint condition including screen, comes with charger and I think even box and original instructions. I'm in the UK, looking for about £60 for it. PM for details.

Someone who knows some online store where you can get hold of MBW-150 Executive Edition still. Feel free to link a few pages and experience of the pages. My display is broken and as far as I know, there is no way to fix it?

Thanks in advance. Perra

i just got my mbw-150 two days ago.
it really is a nice piece of gear.
works perfect with openwatch on my SE xperia x10.

i just had the problem, that my mobile ran out of battery and the clock wouldn't reconnect after i recharged the mobile.
the solution for this is:

first delete the bt pairing on the phone then:
4x button on the lower right
1x button upper right
this initiates the clock pairing mode
then press the upper and lower button on the right until the display goes white, this deletes the pairing of the clock
then longpress the lower right button to initiate a new pairing

now the phone finds the clock and you can pair it with code "0000"

I received my MBW-150 today, works nice with OpenWatch and Stock 2.2 Defy.
BUt it doesnt sho any notification when i get a new Mail.
I turned on all Notifications but it didn´t change anything, I get no notifications oO
I also activated it in System Settings.
The new mail count although works without problems, just a bit "late".
I use the normal Gmail App with one Account

And which Player do i need for the watch to show me what´s playing ? Forward, Pause etc. works well with bTunes but it won´t sho me the track on my watch.

Edit: i Played a bit with the settings and now it shows a message Symbol and vibrates whenever it get a nem Gmail, but it wo´t show me the text, the other problems are still there

Hey guys, so I got my MBW-150 yesterday and was SUPER happy with it and OpenWatch, but after a phone reset, my watch now longer receives alerts :[ OpenWatch is running and connected, but whenever I send a txt to my phone, my watch no longer responds.

Any idea what happened? :\

Edit: Discovered a bug. Using a Nexus One running CM 7.0.3.
When I enable All system notifications, I can only exclude one or two applications before the app breaks and I have to reinstall it. Let's say, I want to disable tasker from showing up on my watch. Fine. But then let's say I want to disable Gmail notifications as well? I may or may not get lucky. And finally let's try and disable facebook notifications as well. Next time my watch is supposed to go off, NOTHING happens. I can still send a test from OpenWatch, and I can still call up my phone's information (mail, battery, sms, etc), but my watch no longer responds to incoming txts and the like.

Also, curious about editing the bits in this program.
How do I use the caller logos thing? [nevermind, found on authors forums]
What parameters are available for the Messaging info configurations?
How do I easily choose an app to launch? (or how do I find out the parameters of the app I want to launch?) [half found on authors forums]
What does Event queue type mean?
What does Swap buttons do?

Thanks in advance! :]

Edit2: Hey is there any way to delete pending messages? After I wake up, when I connect my watch to my phone, my watch promptly vibrates it's butt off until every notification it's missed is received. Also, is there a way to customize the vibration patterns? For some notifications, it's way to long for my liking.

Edit3: After Stopping and Exiting the app in hopes of ending the torrent of messages to my watch, I start the app back up, and try to reconnect my watch. Not only does it take a minute (vs instant) but my watch no longer receives messages from my phone as described earlier in this post. Surprisingly, a reset of the phone fixes this issue though.

I've been using the WinMo based smartWatchM for many years. My wife also started using it a year ago. Despite a few hiccups and having to reboot the watch once or twice over the years we've been able to use them. Then this week she switched to Android v2.3 on the just recently launched Xperia Mini Pro (SK17i).

I downloaded OpenWatch, enabled bluetooth on the phone, started searching for devices on the phone, and pushed the watch' button to start sending BT signals.

The phone doesn't recognise any BT signal.

I do not know which BT stack the Xperia Mini Pro uses, although I would imagine it's the same as all SonyEricsson Xperia Android phones and I saw above that it worked with another SE Xperia, the X10. So I would expect it to work. Any hints from Sony SE Xperia users?

Is there anything else I ought to do to intialize OpenWatch?

Thanks//

Answering my own post with an update. I believe it's my complete lack of Android knowledge that's getting in the way here.

First, I got a message "You have to activate Open Watch" or words to that effect, and a two step process of how to do it, in English. I tried with our native language version, but I couldn't get it to work. Then the message disappeared. Where would I find those kinds of warning messages again?

Second, I managed to find the watch (I hadn't "activated" Open Watch, to my knowledge at least) then it asked for the code. I tried 0000. Didn't pair. Then the watch, disappeared from the BT view.

OK, tried again. Suddenly it reappeared. Tried 0000 again and it paired. Heureka! Persistence did it!!

Hey devs, hey comunity ...

I've read most of this really big thread but i cant figure some problems out. But first some details on my phone... Im using a Samsung Galalxy S I9000 with my MBW 150. My firmware is JVT (Android 2.3.5) and my phone is rooted.

But now my problems:

1. I cant get "all systemnotifications" working. I use GTALK and WhatsApp a lot, so the only possibility to get notifications from these apps is "All system notifications". But when i enable it, it doesnt change anything. So i read about the accessibility service, and that i have to enable this. But where can i enable this? I cant find that service in Menu - Settings - Applications - Services. Or is it not possible with my phone to get "all system notifications"?

2. I cant start the MusicPlayer of my SGS by double tapping START/STOP. I also tried different settings in Openwatch for starting app and class, but none of them is working.

So, can anyome help with theses problems?

Finally. 1.0 is here. :D OpenWatch now gets the most of Android platform. There's nothing major that's missing and can be done. And here some details...

Ability to reject a phone call! Thanks to a tip from user bstoke. (Currently for SE MBW only.)

Thanks to DJGibbon, power consumption is fixed.

Did you get the fake MBW-150 from Thinkgeek or somewhere else? OpenWatch now supports LM Technologies watches. It's even a bit better than on Windows Mobile, you can customize the line with unread counters.

Also the hidden cid (private number) case was fixed.

Now that the fake MBW-150 (apparently a redesigned LM958) has been supported since version 1.0 released in June, 2010, has anyone had display fading problems with them? I have three MBW-150s, all with totally faded displays. To date, no one has found a source or method to replace the displays, so their only use, other than being a nice looking watch, is for the vibration.

Also, my MBWs on Android all wore down the battery enough to turn off Bluetooth after about seven hours. I never had that problem with SmartWatch on Windows Mobile. In Android, an unpair and repair would fix it, but then after a couple days it would start draining the battery again. Does that problem exist with the fakes?

I hate to throw even more money into having Bluetooth notifications on my watch, but I'm thinking about getting one of these: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/0-8-oled-bluetooth-wrist-watch-with-caller-id-display-and-vibrating-alert-23915.

The MetaWatch and others look like they can do a lot, but I'm an old guy and like the look of a "classic" watch. About all I use are the caller ID and text message alerts anyway.

I'm not sure that anyone has confirmed any watch but the SE MBW-150 actually works. The watch you link to is the same as the Thinkgeek watch and I can tell you from my own experience that it won't work with openwatch on my HTC Droid Incredible where the MBW-150 does.

As I mentioned in my post earlier, I'm not sure ANY hardware is currently available that the software supports, which is a shame.

The Thinkgeek watch will work with just Android to send Caller ID, but openwatch does so much more. I'd donate as much as $40 if openwatch would support it. I'd be happy to help in any way I can.

That was moneytoo's post from June, 2010 that I quoted, where he said that the LM watches DO work. Has that since been proven to not be the case? Can anyone confirm that their LM watch works with OpenWatch?

I don't see moneytoo posting much lately. Maybe he has moved on to other things. I know that his OpenWatch is being used on the MetaWatch.

mterry63

If you read through the 84 pages of the thread you'll see a number of problems and 'exceptions' listed for the LM watches. I took a chance and purchased the watch you mentioned in your link, but unfortunately, it didn't work for me.

I also bought a used SE MBW-150 and it did work, but unfortunately it's display is unreadable due to the well posted OLED degredation issue.

I'm with you that I would rather have a standard analog watch. Even the inpulse, which is listed as supported by openwatch, says only for 'some' android versions, and HTC is specifically excluded.

So, as bad as I'd like to have openwatch work for me, the search for available hardware continues, for me at least. If you find something that's available and works, by all means say so.

I think their lifetime has more to do with when they were made than how long they have been used. I bought a new Executive about three years ago, and the display lasted about two years. I bought another used Executive and a Classic about a year ago, and they both faded within a month or so, even though I wasn't using them.

You'll have to be rooted, but installing the modded Gmail from here should fix it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1199518 Flashing the zip file was the only one that worked for me, but one of the other packages might work for you.

Thanks for the advice - that's exactly how I got notifications working on my HTC Desire. However,
a) the Galaxy Nexus uses a different version of Gmail compiled for the Roboto framework and I'm reluctant to play with fire there
b) I thought OpenWatch 1.5.1 contained a workaround for the signing issue in 2.3.5 and was hoping that this could by chance be extended to 4.0.1

Also: Yesterday I got 1 Gmail notification in my watch - but silence since.

Would appreciate some feedback on this.

Bought one of these a few days ago from Expansys! Just arrived today!

Very nice, super bright white OLED display (compared to my fading MBW-150 Music Edition's display).

Pros:
-Smaller
-Bright display (might be because it's new though)
-Easier to replace band (20mm straight end)

Cons:
-Lower Resolution
-Smaller? (I like the larger 150 better IMHO)
-Womens watch (tiny tiny band and jewel at 12o'clock position)

Seems to take quite a bit longer to reconnect with my Nexus One compared to the MBW-150 for some reason. I only plan to use this watch on special occasions though, once I find a nice watch band replacement that is . Right now I'm using a black metal 20mm band from my LiveView (before it died), and it doesn't look quite right :\ but it looks a lot more masculine than with the tiny tapered leather band it had!

I thought the MBW-200 would become my next daily watch, but after seeing how feminine/refined the watch design is, I'd rather try my luck with another ebay mbw-150 and hope it lasts longer!.

Not as difficult as one might think. There's six MBW-150 Classic Editions being sold on ebay right now for $100 shipped worldwide.

I have a saved search on there to alert me when any good deals pop up. The most recent completed auctions have sold MBW-150s for around $60-80 shipped. There have been at least 10 auctions (not counting multiple lots) for the 150's in the past 2 weeks as well.

Damn!!! I love your collection! And you did a VERY nice job at turning the mbw-200 series less feminine! I'll definitely base my next watch band off of your pictures!

I got the bands from these 2 (https://www.watch-band-center.com/shop-watchstrap.html) sites (http://www.thestrapshop.co.uk/pages/lwb/elite.html) very good prices and fast delivery.

I'd like to throw a curveball at the devs here. Very recently, a root was developed for the motorola motoACTV android based watch. As a result, we now have a full android device in a watch form factor and a growing population of folks who are rooting it. Trouble is, because it's not one of these bluetooth connected watches there is no easy way to get openwatch like functionality on it. My question is, any way to have an openwatch client application that can be loaded on the motoactv that emulates the functionality of the watches? Ideally I'd love to be able to get notifications of emails, texts, phone calls, etc by pairing the motoactv with my blackberry phone, but at this point I'll take anything. Any chance someone wants to make this happen?

Someone bought up 7 MBW-150 Classics from the seller in Hungary at the $50/$37 shipping price, much to my frustration.

He just posted one more MBW-150 at $99 + $29 which I bit the bullet on and bought, since my MBW-150 is about two years old and the display is completely faded now.

Kicking myself for costing myself $40 for no good reason. Bleh.

Seller mentioned that he had to pay more for this one and that they'll all be MBW-200's he sells from here on out. Maybe someone else will unearth a supply somewhere, but I use the watch for music control all the time, though I can't STAND the MBW-150 music edition, so this is what I'm stuck with.

Hope to get at least another two years out of it, but I realize that's probably crazy.

Bleh.

Hi,
anyone tried one of this?
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/0-8-oled-bluetooth-wrist-watch-with-caller-id-display-and-vibrating-alert-23915

Give your feedback please....

I actually bought one on Amazon that was listed there as being an MBW-200 Evening Classic. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VKARQ4/ref=oss_product) Instead of the Sony MBW-200, I received the MBW-150 knock-off pictured on that Deal Extreme link. It pairs as a headset, and I couldn't get it to work at all with OpenWatch. Needless to say, I'll be returning it.

What's the story on this? There's a community of people who love the idea of a notification watch, but the industry isn't supporting us. The options as I see them are the Sony MBW series that are strangely difficult to find, the Sony LiveView that from all indications isn't really built to be a watch (and doesn't look the part), and a few others like the inPulse and the MetaWatch that are in a completely different world price-wise. Even the new Sony SmartView, the LiveView's successor, will have a chintzy rubber band.

I think the analog version of the MetaWatch is the most "normal" looking watch today, and moneytoo has OpenWatch running on it. It still doesn't look "normal" enough for me, so I'm hoping the replacement displays for the MBW-150 being discussed in another thread pan out.

I let my MBW-150 battery run down enough to turn off Bluetooth. My display has been faded to invisible for a long time and I have forgotten the button sequence to turn BT back on. Could someone please post the steps, button by button?

As far as I remember you just have to long press the top right button. But since I haven't used the watch for over a year, I could be wrong ;)

Thanks but that didn't work. I thought it was bottom right button three times and top right button once, but that's not working. Since I can't see the display, I'm can't even say for sure if the watch is really charging. Until it's charged, Bluetooth won't turn on anyway. Does anyone else remember?

Hold down the lower right button and the watch should vibrate. That'll toggle your bluetooth.

Push the bottom right button 4 times (BT toggle, msg notify, not sure?, pairing mode) and then the top right button to go into pairing mode.

Has anyone tried OpenWatch with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)? Any luck? I'd really like to flash my phone, but still love my MBW-150s - I have a couple that still work for the time being.

Thanks!

I am using ARHD ICS on my Sensation XE and it works no problems
although i have found if the watch is disconnected and openwatch is still running the battery drain is huge but when connected its fine
In fact with ICS i dont need to use Juice defender anymore as i am getting almost 2 days of usage now from 1 charge.

As regards to Openwatch itself it still wont display Gmails on the watch so i have to setup K9 which works fine

- Sony Ericsson MBW-100/150/200 (recommended - no issues)
- or LM Technologies (LM957/LM958)
- or Prada Link (limited support - currently missing message list and some notifications)
- or Allerta inPulse (only some Android devices are supported)

Are there any new models supported than the listed ones? Any alternatives?

LiveView 2.0? No thanks. Check the LiveView threads for more info. There's a plugin for the original liveview for openwatch, and it works kinda well, but the interface is plain horrible compared to the MBW series.

My point was that it doesn't have to say connected to be functional. My functionality works and I am paired but not connected, so you don't need to pursue that part. As long as it shows that it is paired, you're on the right track.

How can I use Openwatch with my LiveView device?
I have hooked it up to my Galaxy Nexus, but I can't use many plug-ins, as the LiveView application on my phone does not detect them for some reason!

Only the applications that can be opened via the android market (The ones that has an open and uninstall button in the market, not just an uninstall like many plug-ins) shows up in the app, it's very annoying and I would like to try OpenWatch!

So can I use Openwatch? Or can I solve this problem in some way?

You need to install adw launcher and then set up a custom shortcut activity to enable them.

What a great app but what a bullshit of mbw 150.
I got a mbw 150 classic and executive and after one year I can't read the screen anymore. I read the problem with the brightness of the oled is a distruction error.

Do anyone know a different watch that works with this awesome app?

For those interested in the current display lifetime of these watches, I purchased the MBW-150 Music Edition and MBW-200 from Expansys back in November 2011.

The MBW-150 orange OLED is noticeably faded, and unusable in all but dark conditions. The MBW-200 with white OLED is still going strong, however.

I think this will be my last purchase for Openwatch, however. I'm hoping my current watch will last until this device comes out http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/597507018/pebble-e-paper-watch-for-iphone-and-android/?mc_cid=2e54eda878&mc_eid=bc1e6ad408

I agree about Sony Ericsson, but nothing else to do but move on. The things I like about the pebble is the screen is always on, and the battery lasts 7 days. I'd rather have a more traditional analog looking watch, but I can live with an analog watch screen on a digital device.
