brilliant idea, is the app open source? can we help or provide code to enable other custom notifications?

Maybe we can even make apps on the market "openwatch" friendly...

Also, I know its not possible because there's no API available for it..but GMAIL notifications would be great too.

Looking forward for it

The good thing about Android is that exactly this will be way easier than on other mobile platforms. Twitter updates or whatever you can imagine. :)

It's nice alright, but I don't like the watch :(

I did a quick search, so I see music controls are possible.
But I tell you what the watch needs, a microphone (yeah and a speaker I guess). It would be sweet to use it in conjunction with bluetooth headphones, so you can be listening to music, answer and talk to the watch with your phone wherever.

But mix that with voice control and you've really got something cool. (Just don't say "Disable Bluetooth" :p)

perhaps something could be done to support this one? The vibration function, fact that it is 25 bucks, and the look of the device itself would make me jump right on it...

Amen. I actually have already purchased this myself for this very purpose. However, many websites are already up for hacking it and 0 progress has been made so I doubt it would be possible.:(

I love the idea of this we just need more choices on the watches and what not. I guess that will come in time.

I really like the idea of being able to look at my watch and see who is calling instead of fumbling around with my phone in my pocket during a meeting.

A mic would be cool i guess but i don't think i would use it much. I would rather the device be able to show me missed calls, the entire txt message and mms messages (possible pic), calendar appointments and so forth. Great idea.

The Sony Erricson one looks pretty cool but it looks a bit spendy. Just need some companies to pump some more watches out.

Throw some Augmented Reality on that watch with a QWERY and I'm balls deep in!
Lol its a very cool idea and nice to see but, I typically don't wear a watch especially with my g1 in my pocket and the fact that I'm more wired to check my phone in my pocket then look at a watch.

But I don't have a lot of blue tooth experience and I can see my phone being away and my watch saying I have calls and texts, that would be nice :]

I know that the top of the thread says LM958 only, but does this include the LM957 Sports version? (http://www.lm-technologies.com/home/bluetooth/LM957/bluetooth-watch-sports )
On other threads they seem to refer to the series as LM957/LM958 and looking on the manufacturer site data sheets the functionality looks identical, they appear to differ only in styling so I'm guessing it should work.
Can anyone confirm one way or the other?

Hey Moneytoo,

I'm assuming v0.2 isn't backward compatible with Android 1.5 or 1.6??

If it isn't, it looks live v0.1 was compatible considering use of the G1 in the demonstrations. Do you still have that available for DL?

My P1i died and I need a new option and Verizon isn't going to fly in my area.

Thanks!

Version 0.1 was compatible only with some other watch, not the SE MBW. It's not possible to use it on 1.5/1.6.

New Texas Instruments watch:

"This tool features a 96 segment LCD display and provides an integrated pressure sensor and 3-axis accelerometer for motion sensitive control. The integrated wireless feature allows the Chronos to act as a central hub for nearby wireless sensors such as pedometers and heart rate monitors. The eZ430-Chronos offers temperature and battery voltage measurement and is complete with a USB-based CC1111 wireless interface to a PC.
The eZ430-Chronos watch may be disassembled to be reprogrammed with a custom application and includes an eZ430 USB programming interface."

And its $49 :)

I've selected the log feature in the settings but i'm not seeing any logs in the main window. Am i supposed to be looking somewhere else.

Is there any way we can see the alerts that are currently being reported. My watch is showing an email icon (abacus 150) and there are not any alerts or an unread emails (that i can find).

Does the software just check the inbox of gmail or does it look at all folders/labels. I've noticed sometimes the emails come in but the subject/sender never show up. This might be related to having more than one gmail account.

Having a log and a list of current notifications with details would really help us troubleshoot bugs.
-D

moneytoo

The log feature just shows the Toast notification (Watch connected/disconnected) in the bottom of the screen.

The Gmail notification function tries to find the first unread conversation (among all labels/folders) of the first found gmail account.

1) I did not tested it on a official Android 2.0 ROM (myself) - I'm waiting for official update (hopefully for my old Dream) cause emulator doesn't have Gmail and all the beta roms are pretty unstable
2) It only monitors the first account. (Same here, I didn't have a chance to test Account manager on stable 2.0)
3) It looks for number of unread conversations - it may include unopened messages from all folders, voicemail etc.
4) No official API...

I will work more on this as soon as HTC releases 2.0 ROM...

First off, I would like to say AMAZING Application! Thank you so much for your hard work!!

Now for the requests, lol:

Is it possible to add Pandora support (even if the Pandora app is not open)? I know this would probably be hard being that you don’t have access to the Pandora source, but I figured I would ask….

Maybe there is some way to manipulate the controls (Using the D-Pad on the Droid, you can press down and then left and right to thumb up, thumb down or next track, probably similar with the trackball on the HTCs).

I figured the Volume Up and Down, Forward Track, Play/Stop can all have normal functionality and Previous Track thumbs down the song.

Just an idea...

Keep up the great work!

Who needs source when you have got binaries? :D Key injection is not possible on Android but after a quick look it seems like all the Pandora data and playback control is easily accessible. Ok, it's on my to do list. ;)

It works pretty well on my Droid, but you are correct that it is including unread messages in all labels. It would be great to offer an option to show only unread messages in the Inbox.

I've added support for the OpenWatch API to the official Last.fm Android app. You should be able to view track info on your watch, and skip / stop tracks with the watch's media controls. This will be available when we release the next update in the next few weeks.

Edit: A few users have tested this build with their watches and confirmed that it works. Thanks for testing!

About the Pandora player: I'm not sure if I will be able to do anything with this. The problem is, to try the control features I need to run Pandora first. But since Pandora is US only... :(
I can make Pandora running fine on desktop, iPhone and WM but for some reasons the VPN I use doesn't work in Android and other things I tried didn't worked (probably Pandora checks few more things than I patched in the binary). And I'm not willing to pay just to use different VPN...

I have a G1 with Cyanogen and just got a MBW-150 watch for Christmas today!

MBW-150 Update is the later version of MBW-150 Classic (in white). There are some behavior differences between the old and new version however it's currently not implemented since these features are not used.

Maybe you could use the new <OperatorName/> tag for this... I wanted to include signal strength indicator but receiving the signal strength value but it seems to me too battery draining. I will investigate...

Edit: It's not possible to read signal strength on Android. They removed it from 2.0 but it could be back some day...

Crazy idea, but nice if someone would have two phones:
A client-server architecture via bluetooth. OpenWatch is on phone A connected to the watch, but also is paired with phone B, witch sends notifications to A to appear on the watch.

I downloaded the update today via the market and since then I get errors when attempting to connect to my MBW-150 Exec. Edition. I've tried both of the 150 watch type options and both give the same result. It either no longer connects or does until a notification comes in. My phone is a Motor Droids and prior to getting the update today, it worked flawlessely. Side note, I did uninstall and reinstall the software as well as restart my phone (at which point the auto connect fails with a force close also), nothing worked. Please help as this application is the only reason I got the watch.

I'm sorry, after my problem I continued testing various possibilities and in my trials I turned the Bluetooth off on my phone and then back on and it works perfectly again. Being an IT software tester I should have tried a Bluetooth reset earlier. I apologize if any of your time was wasted in trying to duplicate or resolve this problem. No, it's not possible. Only 2.0 supports Bluetooth API. There are two projects for BT on Android 1.1 to 1.6 (http://code.google.com/p/android-bluetooth/ and http://code.google.com/p/backport-android-bluetooth/) but they doesn't support methods needed to connect to watch.

I'm very glad to read about this App.. Since today I have a HTC Tattoo and if possible, you make me very happy if you can change the .apk file to make it possible for me to install it on my phone, as far as I know there is no 2.0 for Tattoo (yet). I also don't know if that is a requirement, but most things except for file transfer doesnt work with BT.

I already have the watch, used it for my W995 and I love it, would be great if you can make it to work on the Tattoo.

EDIT: Woops.. just read that it isn't possible for lower then 2.0, ill watch the other projects, and will keep a look on this one.

Let me say this: Bridgekeeper: What... is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
King Arthur: What do you mean? An African or European swallow?
Bridgekeeper: Huh? I... I don't know that.
[he is thrown over]
Bridgekeeper: Auuuuuuuugh.
Didn't know it existed :P

It's nice but the difference is availability: inPulse will be available in Ferbuary. TCH1? Chutulu knows... And you will get more support requests for the inPulse.

Although I've subscribed to the blog and mailing list. If it hits a more user-friendly status and a smaller package (lets say a big wrist watch, no more) then I'll choose it over any BT-Watch.

Thank you moneytoo! I thought my watch was only good for telling time after I switched from WM to the Nexus One.

I've been using OpenWatch for a week now, and have noticed that my watch disconnects from the phone after a few minutes of being connected. I would then have to push a button on the watch to "wake" it up and then watch and phone will re-connect again. Not sure if this is supposed to be normal, never had that issue with WM. Sucks because I don't get alerts if the watch is disconnected.

Am I the only one with this problem?

I'm using:
MBW-150 Executive
Firmware v. 1201-3478:01
OpenWatch v0.5.0
Nexus One - rooted- stock ROM

Thanks for any suggestions!

I used openwatch on my Xperia X1 Windows Mobile device and was very happy! It was fast, stable and didn't use much battery. I've since switched to the HTC Hero which wasn't compatible with openwatch, but now that I use the Google Nexus One I installed openwatch for Android.

There are some problems though. I haven't had the disconnecting problems that the last posts talk about. But the battery consumption on the phone is terrible! It won't last more than 12-18 hours and that's when using the phone sparingly! I checked with "spare parts" and found that even though the phone is in standby mode (power button pressed, display off), openwatch still keeps the phone awake 100% of the time. I shut down openwatch and tested the phone in standby again. The awake time dropped to 1,5%!

How can it stay always connected on WM and not use much power while the same on Android draws like crazy?

You said it would not be possible to reject an incoming call, would it be possible to Mute an incoming call?..Ive got a HD2 and plannin to flash android on it as soon as its available.

Yes, this feature is possible and already implemented in OpenWatch.

Power management in OpenWatch v0.5.0:
The latest version 0.5.0 correctly handles power management to faster up watch responses and speed up the reconnection.

1) There's new option in Settings for keeping the device awake when disconnected. When enabled, this keeps the cpu awake only if the watch is disconnected and OpenWatch is still running.

Even in the "cpu awake" mode, the battery usage is not that high to drain the battery in one day. Android device keeping the cpu on for 24 hours with radio on will consume 10-20 % (tested on Motorola Milestone).

2) Because of device power management the watch responses were slow on Motorola Milestone (20 seconds to display the unread messages screen) there's other lock for keeping the device awake. After receiving a command from the watch, OpenWatch will keep the device awake for the next 5 seconds and then will switch back to sleep.

Because this shouldn't cause any battery drain, there's no option for that. You can see the switching in logcat if you want to check it works properly ("lock acquired/released").

I think the problem is in the ROM, as the kernel is using old sources, we will need to wait for HTC official release and then it will hopefully work :)

Just picked up a MBW-150 from mobilecityonline for $136 and already installed OpenWatch. Can't wait to try this out!

Annnnnnnnd it turns out my watch is part of the defective batch I heard about from Amazon as it'll charge for a few minutes and then die. Wonderful

Hi MoneyToo,
I have moved from windows mobile to android just a few days ago & noticed some issues. the follwing is my setup:

1. HTC Legend stock standard Asia(Android 2.1)
2. SE MBW-150 classic 1st version (black face)
3. Openwatch 0.50

The issue i have is, openwatch was installed succesfully & MBW-150 was paired successfully but says not connected. In openwatch, it says openwatch launced, when start button is pressed it does not say watch is connected but when the phone rings, the watch works. It does not work when sms is received. Also, test button does not not do anything.

Is there a remedy for this? Have i missed something?

thanks,

What does the watch say? (e.g. "cannot connect"???)

The way it worked on my Milestone with my Prada Link under Android 2.0, 2.0.1 and the latest 2.1:

1.) install openwatch
2.) goto the bluetooth settings of the phone and pair with the watch (sure, it cannot connect)
3.) open openwatch, goto settings and select "Prada Link" as the device
4.) in openwatch, press menu and START
5.) press the upper button of the watch to connect

e.g. try to uninstall openwatch, reboot the phone and install openwatch again

The only problem I got is, that it often disconnects e.g. after opening the market, installing a new app or opening an app

it looks like there is problem with HTC Sense, because when I try it with AOSP 2.1 Rom on my Hero, it is working fine. On HTC Sense enabled Rom I'm unable to get it work. Looks like Sense is blocking communication between Openwatch and MBW-150, as it works (when someone is calling me, I can see it on MBW-150), but there is no notification on the phone and watch are not picking up the time.

MoneyToo, any chance you can test this on HTC Sense enabled device? Or should we send you some kind of log?

Thanks in advance for you reply!

Regarding OpenWatch and Android 2.x devices with HTC Sense:
I currently own HTC Dream & HTC Tattoo and I'm able to test it on Motorola Milestone. I can flash any ROM to any of these devices. There are some Android 2.1 ROMs with working Bluetooth and some ROMs with HTC Sense.
The problem is that there's no Android 2.x ROM for Dream/Tattoo/Milestone with both BT and Sense. Seems like there's a connection... But I can't test it right now.

Hello. Long-time user, first time poster. I've been a fan since your version for WM. I recently bought a Nexus One and of course your app was the first I installed. :)

I've found something a little odd with this program on my phone though. When I have no emails unread, the watch (mbw-150) says I have 6. However many unread emails I do happen to have gets added to that base number of 6.

Any ideas?

Hi all

HTC Desire and an MBW-150 Classic Update (white face)

Openwatch seems to be running great despite the problems some other people have had with SenseUI (mind you, I've only had it for about an hour so there's plenty of time for things to go wrong yet).

The only real problem I've got is that email notifications aren't showing the correct sender and subject line on the watch. They appear find on the phone, but on the watch they always appear as the same email - one from Amazon a couple of days ago. It's flagged as read, so I'm not sure why OpenWatch is picking that one up!

I'm using a Google Apps for your domain account, if that makes any difference.

Any ideas?

Hi Moneytoo! I loved the app for WinMo, and now I'm an android fan.
Thanks to you, I can still use my MBW-150.
I have a Nexus One, and almost everything is working OK, but I have some issues I'd like you to check if you ever made a new version:
1.- When I have an incomming call, I get a strange sign before showing the caller id, when before was the legend "incomming call"
2.- I installed a media player called Cubed (3) and now the watch not only doesn't control the media, but if I close the program the watch doesn't control the system volume. I've used an A2DP handsfree remote control to change the media in that player and it works OK, what do you think it may be happening?
and last, I have the same issue with unread e-mails, it doesn't seem to update the quantity.
I'd be very grateful if you gave me an opinion about this.
Thanks a lot!

Moneytoo: I'm more than willing to help out with running any debug code you may have if it'd help (I'm a programmer, but not on Android :) ) Are there any detailed logs dropped anywhere I can send you?

After using it for a few days, it seems to be consistent on each connect, but can fall into a few different connection states:

- Displaying an old email subject instead of the current one
- Displaying no email subject, just the envelope (most common)
- Connecting then immediately disconnecting (only usually does this 3/4 times for me)
- Working properly (rarest state, unfortunately ;) )

I can't work out what's different each time that might make it fall into each state.

Cheers

hi, I'm a complete beginner in android development, so I might be mistaken here.

I managed to control spotify by sending events from adb to the phone.

I used the following command to pause spotify

adb -d shell input keyevent 85

and it worked. I'm assuming that you can inject this keyevent from openwatch. If you don't have time to do that, I'll try to create an app that starts a service that listens to the relevant events from openwatch and injects the appropriate key, but first I need to learn how to develop android apps.

I don't know if there is another way of doing that. I tried to find other events to control spotify, and couldn't find anything. I also tried to find something on how to emulate the remote control bluetooth profile, but couldn't find anything.

Cheers

ps.: these are the codes for controlling media. It seems they don't work on the music player (weird).

public static final int KEYCODE_MEDIA_NEXT
Constant Value: 87 (0x00000057)

public static final int KEYCODE_MEDIA_PLAY_PAUSE
Constant Value: 85 (0x00000055)

public static final int KEYCODE_MEDIA_PREVIOUS
Constant Value: 88 (0x00000058)

public static final int KEYCODE_MEDIA_REWIND
Constant Value: 89 (0x00000059)

Hi Mnementh

I've got a Classic Update rather than an Executive, but I can't imagine they're that different internally. I'm afraid my battery life is excellent, so I'm not sure what's different with yours. Are you on the stock rom?

Also, how's the battery life if the watch isn't paired to the phone? Mine will last forever (~20% battery drop over 5 days) if left like that. It might be that the phone and watch are continually dropping connection then re-syncing? That could use a lot of battery.

Of course, if you're getting so many emails/messages/calls that the watch never stops vibrating, that could use a lot of battery too ;)

Hope you find a solution

Phil

FWIW there have been a couple of people who've had problems with 2.1/Sense, and both of them were Legend users . . . I and a couple of other people have had success with the Desire. Make of that what you will, but I'd want a few more data points before actually saying the Legend was at fault :)

Hey, love the app. Posted a problem I have on your forum and never saw a response so will go ahead and post here.

Telus Milestone user and after updating to 2.1.1 I get random watch disconnects. Sitting there and browsing the net and watch disconnected pops up. Does it at random times. Doesn't matter if both devices fully charged or not. And then other times when phone is idle it will start to ring and that is when I noticed that it has been disconnected and I didn't know it.

Other than that it has been awesome. Thank you so much for taking your time to develop this.

Just noticed another bug, might already have been mentioned, and if so sorry. If I have the vibrate function on, I get a phone call and silence it with the watch, vibration continues until call ends or I dig the phone out of my pocket and end call. Like the idea of vibrate so on the occasion that the watch has disconnected for no reason I don't miss a call while in a noisy environment.

Hmmm. When I posted, I meant that I was getting notifications showing an email that wasn't even unread (it had come from Amazon a few days before my watch even arrived). Now the most common situation is for me to always be notified of the oldest unread email (whereas I'd prefer to be notified of the subject lines of new ones as they arrive). Can anyone confirm what is the expected behaviour? I assumed it would be the latter, but perhaps not :)

Hi,

I am wondering if the current version will ever support the LM957/LM958?

I got one of these last year but since the feature set was limited on the version for the G1 it has been in a drawer waiting until I got a phone with the 2.0 API on there.

Just tried to use it and found that it does not work and a comment in this thread says it is not supported.

Cheers in advance.

Both of those phones worked flawlessly with both of my MBW-150s, but OpenWatch 0.5.1 seems to randomly disconnect a few times a day with both of the same MBW-150s. Not yet. But since some people said it worked for them it would be interesting to make some list of devices and firmware versions. If possible try testing it on clear (master reset) device.

Hmmm. When I posted, I meant that I was getting notifications showing an email that wasn't even unread (it had come from Amazon a few days before my watch even arrived). This IS the expected behavior. I won't work on that until there's documented official messaging API for Android.

works great on the htc incredible with sense ui. watch battery lasted about a week, cell battery wasnt noticably impacted. its real bad tho, incredible-ly bad battery life out on the service area fringe.

i love it! the pure win involved in this project can only be measured against the burning intensity of the sun.

my greatest wish is that it could start the music app and play when its not playing music already.

or that i could set custom toggle shortcuts like track skip back could be assigned to a toggle widget or shortcut.
I go in and out of service areas all day, and it would be awesome to toggle mobile data on and off without having to get my phone out, unlock, and press the widget.

also, scrolling email text would be cool. or maybe if its under a set charachter limit. I use email as a replacement for txting. feels $20 cheaper.

i love you man. im totally gonna donate once i make it home without running out of dollars. its a 2000 mile trek, wish me luck.

Ok, i'll get the ball rolling for Legend users. Tried with these 3 ROMs, & all can pair but says not connected. In all 3 ROMs, using openwatch it takes about 1minute to connect to watch but openwatch does not say it is connected. Using test function does nothing & no sms or other alerts appear on the watch EXCEPT for incoming call. It will often disconnect without warning as well. Below are 3 ROMs tried on.

1. RUU_Legend_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.31.707.2_Radio_47.26.35. 04_7.05.35.26L_release_121965_signed

2. RUU_Legend_HTC_WWE_1.31.405.4_R_Radio_47.26.35.04_ 7.05.35.26L_release_123853_signed (custom baked through Modaco's online Kitchen)

really? got frf50 running on my n1 too, but it always disconnects the watch after a lil while and does not reconnect by itself again...??!

@moneytoo: do you got an idea if this is caused by the rom or by the app or what may i do to keep the connection?

Hi Moneytoo

I've been having some problem with Openwatch preventing my Desire from sleeping - if I understand you correctly, the second point above says that the phone should be able to sleep if the watch isn't constantly sending commands. However as described in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666404) my awake time is the same as my running time, and if I type *#*#4636#*#*, Openwatch is at the top of the Partial wake usage chart (almost entirely full bar).

I unplug my phone at 7am and it will sometimes make it through to 10pm before cutting out, but rarely. Wireless is off, screen dark, etc etc. I'm not rooted so can't run logcat to see what's going on (unless there's another way?)

I could be wrong and the nature of the app means that the phone can't sleep - am I wrong? If not is there any way of fixing this?

Happy to help with any debugging / testing / etc I can do

Cheers

Phil

Same problem here. I installed froyo on my nexus one and I'm able to connect the watch to openwatch, but after a while the connection is lost and I have to push the button on the watch to connect again. Clearly, when connection is lost, if I receive a call, the watch doesn't inform me about it.

Hi

Having just moved from WM to Android i switched from SmartwatchM to Openwatch to work with my MBW-150

I must say that in terms of Connection it's miles better on my Desire than on the Touch HD - it seems not to lose connection as much and it's easier to reconnect

but i m not getting any notifications on SMS delivery's on the Watch

It Tests ok but does not vibrate on test (not sure if it should) and the firmware checks ok (revision 1201-3478:01)

Having read through the Thread it may be to do with sense but it's strange that some things seem to work and not others

i am missing the Mail notifications on exchange mail and i know that this has been asked a couple of times but i have found no reply as yet so just wanted to know if you are any closer to adding exchange support into openwatch ?

Is there any info or specific tests we can do that will help out ?

Thanks

Same here on my Nexus One, same behavior with 2.1 and 2.2. MBW-150. I've tried playing with settings. I don't get the disconnect signal from the watch when this happens. If there is anything I can do to test, please let me know!

Thanks for great software! I had my watch packed away and was ready to Ebay until I found this had been released for Android. When it's connected, it works flawlessly.

The only option is to use K-9 mail.

You don't need root for that.

Possible ways:

1. Try Spotify and look for a way - I'm from Czech republic so I can't even pay for the service. Same with Pandora. No go.

2. Modify Spotify to support OpenWatch API. I could easily do that but I guess they wouldn't be happy to see someone else modifying and releasing their stuff. It could be released as a patch but anyway...

3. Use key injection on rooted devices. This sort of works but there are problems with unlocking the lock screen (it doesn't seem to work on all devices) and turning it off again.

Any way to fix the issue of silencing calls with the watch but not stopping vibration on phone or bluetooth headsets continuing to ring?

This is not possible with the current API. It's possible with root so I'm thinking of such functionality.

The application on Android 2.1 that handles Exchange is Email app (com.android.email). But there's no way how to intercept new e-mails (no API, no broadcasted intents, no content provider) - except to modify this app. That's exactly what guys from K-9 did, they took the Email app (it's open source) and enhanced it. Based on my request, they added a feature and it's possible to get notifications of incoming E-mails. You can do the same with other requests.

One last question (I hope)

When i recieve a SMS the watch does not notify me by display or vibrate

but if i press the top right button it scrolls through the date and time and then shows the Last SMS

is this a known issue ?

Try the "Test" function in OpenWatch. Does it vibrate and do you see an envelope? If no, then turn on the vibrate/envelope in the watch menu (the envelope with "X" cross on it).

So I found this app today and now I really want one of these watches, though they are quite expensive...

I was looking around and found a good deal ($99) on a refurbished MBW-150 Music Bluetooth Watch at icraveit, and was wondering if anyone else has bought it from here... I don't want to buy something that doesn't work...

Still can't get it to work on my Legend,

- Put my watch in pair mode
- Go to bluetooth settins menu and pair it
- Go to Openwatch and press start
- It says "watch disconnected"

Tried MBW-150 and update MBW-150...and yes it's a real one with five buttons

3rd party applications on Android are not permitted to do that (use the TelephonyManager for that nor inject key press).

Thanx for that fantastic tool, works perfectly with my mbw-150 & htc desire.

Just two short questions:

Is it possible to reject a call with OpenWatch when I install the TelephonyManager?

Where's the paypal donation button on this site?

I've got real one too... still no luck and same thing, paired but not connected. When I open openwatch and hit start, it will show me waiting for connection and it is showing disconnected status, BUT, when someone is calling me, it shows me name and number on the watch! so it looks like it is connected, but in some strange way?! openwatch is showing not connected all the time... I think the problem is in the ROM, as the kernel is using old sources, we will need to wait for HTC official release and then it will hopefully work :)

Thanks!

just update, with official 2.1 ROM for HERO OpenWatch is working like a charm!!!

Hi moneytoo

LOVING the twitter notifications - best feature in the program at the moment! For the next version is it possible to customise so that you're only alerted on DMs/@mentions, or is it not possible to tell when you pick up the notifications?

I'm still getting very high Partial Wake usage on my phone, which is causing shorter battery life. I'm working around this by underclocking when the screen's off, which is helping a bit, but it's still short. Is it necessary to hold onto a partial wake lock to stay paired? Is it possible to release the lock to let the phone sleep, but still stay connected?

Cheers

If you can't connect your SE MBW using OpenWatch, please help me find out what's wrong with some HTC Legend (or other models).

1) Try this version: http://beta.smartmadsoft.com/test/OpenWatch.apk
Any change?

2) Connect your phone to the PC, run following command and post the output. Unfortunately this will require root. Skip this if you don't have one.
adb shell
su
sdptool browse local

3) This one would be the most useful for me.
Start BT connection in OpenWatch (the grayed out icon should be displayed in the notification bar). Go to System settings, BT and make your phone discoverable.
Run this on linux machine and post the output
sdptool browse

OpenWatch sets partial wake only for the shortest needed time, but not when the watch is connected, screen is off and there's no communication.
You can see this partial wake "lock acquired" and "lock released" from OpenWatch (tag "ow") in logcat to check if the partial wake lock is released or not.

Thanks a lot for the response! I'd had a look at logcat but coudn't find anything openw* or *watch :)

This is from a quick test I just did with logcat -v time ow:V *:S

Booted phone
Opened OpenWatch
Pressed Menu -> Start
Pressed Play/Stop on watch (connected)
Sent myself a test email (got notification on watch)
Waited for notification to clear
Pressed Play/Stop on watch to check counts
Pressed Menu -> Stop & Exit in OpenWatch

As you can see, there seems to be an additional lock which is acquired when I click "Menu->Start" and released when I click "Stop & Exit". There are also locks acquired when I press Play/Stop, which I'd expect since the phone and watch are directly communication then. I'm assuming it's this "top level" lock which is preventing the phone from sleeping and causing the short battery life.

Can anyone else duplicate this effect?

Cheers

All other notifications I seem to only get once on the watch (and there doesn't appear to be a way to do repeated reminders like in SmartWatch). Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks to DJGibbon, power consumption is fixed.

Did you get the fake MBW-150 from Thinkgeek or somewhere else? OpenWatch now supports LM Technologies watches. It's even a bit better than on Windows Mobile, you can customize the line with unread counters.

I don't think I got any notifications which set this off, the first I knew of it was when I got the phone disconnected buzz on my watch. Once this has happened I have to quit OpenWatch and turn the Bluetooth off and on again, otherwise I can't reconnect.

Any thoughts welcome :)

Thanks for looking into the Legend difficulties moneytoo, really appriciate that.

I am in the process of moving from one city to another, and it seems I have packed my watch in box X, hence I have no idea where it is at the moment. I will assist in whatever testing you require once I am properly installed in my new appartment.

i.e., I have tried the last version, and is unaware if the issues are already resolved or not..

Do you have SE MBW-150 (5 buttons) and not the fake one (2 buttons)?
Can you test 2) or 3) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554551&page=22#post6867168 ?

My legend isn't rooted, so I've only done #3, output:

Thanks. Records are correct.

1) Now I'd like to see the debug logs from Bluetooth stack and OpenWatch. To do that, run the following command, then try to open a connection in OpenWatch and let it run for a while.

adb logcat > log.txt

2) I've just got an idea. Could you try disabling HTC Sense?
Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=648346
Try the steps in video or just download different launcher.

Awesome! Thankyou so much for your hard work, I am now officially the envy of my friends ;) Well-deserved donation sent . . .

The only small problem I have is that with the new version I've had disconnects a couple of times - logcat follows:

Do you have a stock ROM? Some users here have HTC Desire so it shouldn't be a problem.

I have searched and I haven't found an answer on how to dismiss Appointment reminders. They continue to display in the watch even after I dismiss them on my phone (HTC EVO). All other notifications I seem to only get once on the watch (and there doesn't appear to be a way to do repeated reminders like in SmartWatch). Correct me if I am wrong.

Used your SmartWatch on my Windows Phones and OpenWatch on BB before coming over to Android. Thanks for the good work!

I am using Version 0.6.2 (20100613)
My watch firmware Revision: 1201-3478:01

OpenWatch shows a calendar notification every time android.intent.action.EVENT_REMINDER is received. I will try to chech to behavior on latest Android versions (last time I did that it was on 1.something).

No, I'm on Froyo (currently DeFrost 0.7 but will probably be reflashing tomorrow with a more up-to-date version - I'll keep you posted as to whether it makes a difference)

Thanks for the log. It is very helpful and it shows interesting behavior.
I will as you or someone else with Legend to run version with more logs (I will need to prepare it). I will PM you if it's ok.

EDIT:

1) Please create the same log with this version: http://beta.smartmadsoft.com/OpenWatch1001a.apk

2) Just try if this helps or not. http://beta.smartmadsoft.com/OpenWatch1001b.apk I don't need log from this.

I think I know the problem. I will try to fix it the proper way - for this I will have to test it myself on my devices.

Good day, just wanted to let you know that OpenWatch for Android works very well on the Samsung Galaxy S. No bugs observed thus far and no disconnects for over 48 hours (since I installed it), where on the Motorola Milestone (my old phone) it happened for at least 2-3 times a day, now I am starting to think it was more of a Milestone issues then anything else.

Keep up the great work!

Any chance of looking into support for TouchDown exchange. They appear to support 3rd party integration.

Thanks,

Hey Moneytoo,

As a long time user of SmartWatchM, I'm glad to see it now on Android and working even better. I was wondering if the following are possible:

- Reverse media player controls on watch (Next/Prev track). I requested this for SmartWatchM and you managed to implement it in record time!

- Auto-lock phone when disconnected. This was another great feature of SmartWachM, it would be great if OpenWatch could also do this and maybe define an app to launch if this happens (e.g. something that would email GPS location if phone is stolen)

- Spotify support!

All in all, I think I prefer OpenWatch, I found SmartWatchM actually had too many features which made it more fiddly (using volume buttons to change functionality). OpenWatch has been working perfectly on my UK HTC Desire (stock ROM), no connection issues and great perfomance.

Many thanks!

First, big thanks for the fantastic application, I love the new kind of gadget for me :-)
Question: I own a MBW-100 which is imho the nicest watch in Sonys portfolio but because of the very basic 3-button-controls I would like to disable the music control, which I find unnessesary for me. Is there a hidden Option somewhere to disable them?

Uncheck Music notifications, this will disable the music controls too.

Not planned for OpenWatch. 99% of people is happy with the controls.

I tried that. I can enable the lock programmatically but it resets the lock pattern (so any pattern unlocks the phone).
I guess it will be possible supporting some 3rd party security app that has some API.

- Spotify support!

Spotify is not available in my country. (Same with Pandora) I won't do anything unless I will be able to (normally) launch and test the app.

Hi!

I'm running OpenWatch perfectly on my Acer Liquid with the 2.1 LCR rom and a MBW-150.

I'm a previous user of the wm version and I really like the Android version.

What I'm missing though is an option to hide the notification icon. A lot of apps have this feature and I can not find any option for that in your app.

I'd love a feature like that.

The notification icon is required to keep the application running in the background without any interruption.

Nice, I had to close the openwatch task to deactivate the setting, its working as you said, thanks!

I'm using a fake MBW-150 and I'm following all the steps to connect. After going through 1-7 all that happens is the 'watch disconnected' and 'waiting for connection' messages loop for about a minute and then nothing unless I stop and exit and then after pressing start start again the same thing just happens again. Any suggestions?
