View Full Version : Replacing Titl Keyboard and LCD screen cover

I was wondering how hard it is to actually perform a keyboard replacement. There is nothing wrong with the actual keys of my Tilt but the buttons underneath don't always register, particularly the "H" and the "E". I was looking over the replace pictures for the keyboard here:
http://www.mikechannon.net/PDF%20Manuals/Replacing%20the%20LCD%20on%20a%20Kaiser.pdf
Doesn't seem toooo bad. I build computers on the side and have most of the tools. Whats the actual part under the keypad I should be asking for? "Keyboard PCB"???? Anyone have a reputable place I can buy it from? Do I need to reload any CAB files after this install?
I figure since I am taking it apart I should replace the touch screen. Theres nothing wrong with the LCD itself as I have never dropped it (knocks on wood) its just the top mylar protective screen that a bit scratched up. What is that part called?
How many have replaced these parts? What the rate of bricking my Tilt after I attempt this? Do you regret doing it (even successfully) and wish you had just sent it in to a professional service shop and paid the dough to have it done?

Any reason you posted this twice? Make sure to get some really really really small screw drivers and hex drivers.

Cant et nothing by these people here on this forum. Good lord.
Anyways, ill try and actualy be poductive instead of just padding my pot count.
I have 2 tilts that need keyboards. I ordered the ones that come mounted on the slider part, so its take it apart and put it back together. Both came in from the ebay seller and they were both trash. I just sent them back and waiting for new ones.
I say the other kind on ebay as well, (just the keyboard) but have no clue how its mounted. I have read hours upon hours and countless documents and still cant seem to find anything that gives a clue.
I will find out though. Once the new ones come in and i take the phones apart and put the new ones in, the old ones are gonna tell me for next time. I will post my findings in the post i made a few days ago. The keyboards are only sent to and coming from one state over, so it shouldnt be long .......... IF they actualy send me good ones this time.

I have a full jewelers screwdriver set with Torx, Allen, philips and flat. Gonna try to use the handle of a nail file where its thin and no ribbing for the separation process of the body. Does HTC sell replacement parts? I'd rather do this one time and wouldn't mind paying the extra few bucks for a decent keyboard PCB as to not have to do it 2/3 times a year.

Okay........ so here is what you do, seeing as you have added nothing constructive to this forum , during your extensive membership and vast posting history, except of course to pad your post count by accusing other people of just padding their post count.
Just take apart your phone while videoing and documenting the whole process. Change the keyboard and or keys and then reassemble the entire phone. Document all the steps and the tools needed. Then post the video on YouTube and link it in your signature.
Then for the next two years or two thousand posts, you can field question after question about how to replace a keyboard. And for the next two years, you can answer, check my sig for video and instructions............check my sig for instructions...............check my sig for instructions.
And when your all done with this, and you have answered the same questions a thousand times. Let's see if for one small minute you get the urge to say " can you at least make a small effort to f**ing search ? "
And of course I'll be right there to say ......" padding your post count again carhigh ?" :p
Looking forward to your tutorial on swapping out keyboards, it will be a great addition to the wiki and the forum. :)

I usually don't post to much but I re-searched alot of valuable information.
I just fixed my tytn II after an accident in Disneyland broken screen and damage keyboard. the process is very simple and the best guide I found was in you tube search for it.
I also bought my spares from an ebay great store. I was very surprised with the quality and fast deliviery of the parts no to mention they included all the tools required. US Canada in 3 days:eek:

Thanks Agy...I found the LCD replacement but I emailed him about the keyboard. How long did it take you to replace? Through all the ebay sellers he is the first one I see that offers the tools to do the job in there as well.
Thanks for the heads up
Pete

About 45 minutes. I was very slow I didn't want to screwup anything but I did:( I broke the little brown lock that attaches the orange nylon band from the keyboard to the motherboard I figure it out how to fix it however if anybody knows where to get a new one will be appreciate.
my only recommendation is to be careful with that little lock other than that once you open it for the first time the next will take about 10 min :D
