I followed section 4 of these instructions (http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/22/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-load-hero-and-or-apps2sd-onto-your-g1-or-mytouch-3g-best-method/) to successfully flash the CyanogenMod 4.0.4 ROM on my phone. These instructions say they work for the HERO ROM as well, but then I stumbled upon these instructions:

Both instructions are similar, but the latter states in step 4 that perfect SPLs don't allow flashing and that a complicated procedure needs to be followed first before continuing. If this is true, how was I able to flash the CyanogenMod ROM on my phone? :confused: Can't I follow the same procedure to flash the HTC HERO ROM?
