Noob needs help. Bought Wiz200 3 days ago

Hi everyone!

**This is my first post in this forum, so I apologize if I'm posting something wrong - please be polite**

I bought a MDA VARIO (I) 3 days ago. The first User didn't mod anything on this pda. It's T-Mobile (germany) branded and still SIM-Locked.

That's the point where I came to this forum. ATM I'm using an O2 SIM-Card (will change that soon to another provider) and can't use my new PDA.

At first I've read some threads and noted all my IPLs and so on.

**Then I downloaded an official update from the t-mobile webpage and now I've got a ipl 3.08.0001 and spl 3.08.0001 still Windows Mobile 5**

I've seen some cool stuff you ppl do in this forums and want to change my lame phone into a creative machine too :) That's why I ask for help.

My phone still works and nothing is hacked or anything. Just 1 Update to the newest state. I read some Wiki entries and some posts very carefully, but I'm still uncertain, so I post my thoughts in here.

I read that someone here is "collecting" the phone-data and I WANT TO DONATE. Just tell me what to do/post.

My PC-System is Windows Vista x64 ultimate.

I already installed the newest Wizard Service Tool

After searching some threads I found out that I have a G4 device.

I want to upgrade the following:
1.kill SIMLOCK
2.kill SIDLOCK
3.install new windows mobile if this makes sense (read further in this post)
Final. Use the pda with my SIM-Card as phone,plaything, organizer and do stuff -thats why we are here :)

(1)If I read correct, I have to DOWNGRADE my IPL and SPL to kill SIMLOCK, is that correct?
Same goes with SIDLOCK? (2)

(3) Which Windows Mobile will be okay? The phone is pretty weak (195Mhz, 64MB Ram, 126MB Flash, 16bits BUS, Memory: 42,55MB, LCD@ 240*320 with 65536 collors and an extra 2Gig Memory-unit)

I'd prefer a german windows (hope that you can't read my accent :) ) with lots of touch function. Saw some preview of Windows Mobile 6.5 and it looked pretty nice, but I'm worried that the 195MhZ Wiz200 is to lame.

It won't be good enough to get along with Windows Mobile 7 (when it comes out), does it?

What information do I have to post to donate?
Do I need to downgrade to kill SIMlock and SIDlock? How do I do this?
How can I actually kill/disable SIMlock?
Where can I get a good OS for my Wiz and which one would you prefer? WM 6.0; 6.1; 6.5? Language packs available?
Which programs do I need to install (must haves)?

This will be the page u want to go to to unlock your device. Use it at your own risk. Im not sure if you will have to downgrade your radio or with the G4's or not. this thread will get you where you need to be to get Hard SPL (CID Unlock) and SIM Unlock. Read the first post thoroughly that's the info you need.
Just remember, When in Doubt, ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS...we would rather you ask questions than turn your device into a brick.

I wrote that much about what I've already read. I don't plan to flash my device into a brick just because I'm impatient :D

this thread will get you where you need to be to get Hard SPL (CID Unlock) and SIM Unlock.
AFAIK HardSPL has nothing todo with SIM-Unlock.

For SIM-Unlock you should look at this:

IMPORTANT: This is only for SIM-Unlock if you have a G4 Wizard!

CID-Unlock is not possible. You can either use SoftSPL or HardSPL for flashing a new ROM.

And don't use Vista!!! Use WinXP 32bit for all this stuff!!!

Finally got rid of Simlock, thanks for the link!

Since my lack of Windows XP I dunno how to go on modding my phone. Sim-Unlocking worked well with Vista 64 and WMDC (XP drivers though).

Visited a friend and used his XP-PC for the good stuff:

Now my WIZ is running WM6,5 by Cyberdyne and is overclocked with HomeScreen++. Running sweat. Totally happy right now.
