I see you're a member and I'm just a newbe, but the Startrek AKA all the other same phones is a quadband, so as far as I know it'll work about everywhere in the world. Don't know of course if you need to SIM-unlock your phone.

Unfortunately no, the Star Trek won't work in Japan. You need a phone that supports the 2100 3G band, which is the only compatible GSM band in Japan.
