I looked all over the site for an answer, and could not find it, so I was hoping someone could help me figure this out. I was wondering. Are carriers able to identify a phone model on their network if an unbranded phone is used? Or only those issued by them? Thanks

Yes, and they can blocked it once it was identified that the phone was stolen or lost..below is the link. :)

Thanks a lot for the replies. I just looked at the link you provided but I cannot see there where it says that they can identify IMEI of unbranded phones. So, if I purchase a Nokia e71 device from a Nokia store, and then insert carrier's A sim card, my understanding was that they will not be able to identify the device, as it was not issued by carrier A, and that only devices I purchase through them, can they identify.

Just trying to understand out of curiousity. My business owns 26 phones, all PDA's. I am way too old to mess around with tricking the system! LOL

I've been experimenting, switching from my unlocked/unbranded Tilt to a branded Sony W580i. I logon to my account and the change is registered almost at once. I wish there was a way to keep them from noticing.
