Hi,
I have a HTC Tytn II phone I got 2 years ago. My phone which has never missed a beat has now suddenly died or it seems that way. I would be quite happy to keep this phone for another 2 years as it does everything I need. I hope I dont have to buy another phone now and I hope it is just the battery that has ceased up etc?

I have tried plugging it in to battery charger but it just displays a solid red light and it won't start up. It has acted a bit strange over last few days when charging etc. I tried using the reset button and taking the battery and sim card out and cleaning them a little but it still won't work (not even start up).

What do you think it could be? Is it common for batteries to only last 2 years and is this the most likely cause of the problem?

Search for red light of death

optimistically, the battery probably just needs replacing...if you can afford a new one, give it a shot. it might just save you the headache of having to deal with the almost magical/voodoo methods of trying to revive the phone from the dreaded "red light of death", if the battery indeed does need replacing.

if you feel the battery is no way at fault, then a search for the "red light of death" and lots and lots of reading and poking around is probably your fate! good luck! :D

Spoke to soon,... Once my new battery reached only one bar left I decided to plug it into my USB wall charger. After a a couple of hours I thought it was strange the light was orange/red. I then tried to start the phone and it woudn't. So I plugged it into my USB chord from computer and it still won't charge.

So I guess it is the USB connection on the phone that is broken and I would need to buy a battery charger (not a USB one)?

I'm trying to find the right charger to buy that I can plug the battery into (not the one where you have to plug the phone into). As it is the phone USB socket that seems to be the problem but if I could get hold of a charger that will charge the battery without needing the phone to support it then I should be ok.

edit, ok I think I found what I need: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=200402990919&view=all&tid=413826764010
