Apologies if this is in the wrong place or has been addressed somewhere else but I couldn't see anything.

Hi guys and girls

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/razerbug/Smenu.jpg

this is my problem... for some reason, some of the apps I install (via market place or from .cab) lose their icons after the phone is restarted. They have an icon once installed but it soon vanishes and is replaced with this generic window one.

I have tried changing the icon with an Icon Changer app, and made 90x90 pixel png icons to replace them with, but although the new icons show up in the changer app, it makes no difference to the start menu, even after a restart.

Is there some fix to this, it's making what's otherwise a stylish bit of kit, a little... ugly...

Cheers!

(PS: Apps that don't have icons:

Google Maps
Facebook
Stopwatch
Mobile TFL

Apps that DO have icons:

Klaxon
Twikini
Orange Maps
+ all default apps)

I think it's an issue to do with the programs installed on the storage card. Sometimes if you take out the memory card, the application icons can disappear. After a few reboots and by launching the apps, the icons usually come back. :)

Hope this works :)

They re-appear about once in every 4 reboots... but sometimes it takes up to ten, it's totally random. Although the custom icons I made do show up sometimes.

Also, some of the apps without icons are installed on the device not the card. and 2 or 3 apps that are installed on the card always have their icons...

such a little niggle but so annoying.

That I actually can do. My first TG01 had a fault with it's auto-rotate so Orange sent me out a new one but didn't take back the storage card. So I have a duplicate blank 8gig toshiba memory card... just cloned the old card to the new one, all programs still work but no icons, didn't think it could be that because some programs on the card have icons and some programs on the phone don't.

Think it's the usual party piece from MS, release an OS before it's finished and keep patching it up as you go.

Okay so work around:

assuming the problem is (in some weird way that also affects apps on the device...) with the storage card I made a new folder at \My Documents\Icons\

in there I put the 90x90 .png icons that I made in Photoshop in there, then used the JWMD Icon Changer to remove all the old icon links and point them at the icons on the device.

This seems to have worked! and they survive reboots.

So, due to the fact 6.5 isn't actually an OS ready for release I now have to

> download apps from the marketplace
> move the app to the storage card because there isn't an option to install to the storage card in market place - despite the fact most phones have less than 500mb device memory
> open PS and make a new icon for any app I chose to download.
> connect the phone and copy these files to the device.
> use a 3rd party app to remove the old icon and replace it with the new one.
> restart the phone.

All because MS can't be arsed to check their software is bug free before releasing!

If anyone knows an actual fix rather than this long winded work around please do shout...

I have the same issue but as you probably know this phone had a lot of issue with SD card with WInMO 6.1. Toshiba seems has partially solved the SD corruption problem but now has introduced this new problem. I think that SD card is not accesible at boot a thus Winmo cannot load icons.

Hi everyone, I have just got a TG01 and I have the same problem also.

All programs installed to my SD card show as white squares, I have a Sandisk branded MicroSD card which has served me well for a couple of years and has worked fine in all my other phones.

All programs installed to the phone memory all show fine and I am in agremenet that it is an issue with the SD card at boot time. I had a similar issue with a Samsung Omnia using the internal flash memory but no one could fix that either.

So is there a way to make Windows wait for say 0.5 seconds during boot just before the icons are loaded so the SD card has time to mount then when the start menu is loaded into memory all icons appear?

I've found the problem has become a lot less frequent, seemed to have been solved when MS fixed the Marketplace install-to-SD-card issue.

in fact, looking at it now after a reboot - all the icons are working. Suggest downloading the latest version of Marketplace.

I recently got told there was an update from Toshiba, assumed this was 6.5.3... alas it wasn't, it's still 6.5, but one of the things it did do was totally remove this problem. They gave no explaination of what the "update" was supposed to do though so maybe a simple re-install of winmo is all that's needed?
