I can confirm 6.5 works with 7 x64 I can also confirm that I cant get this to connect to my 7 x32 netbook, I can make it do everything but ActiveSync which includes Internet sharring USB and Bluetooth.

Ok ... i figured it out finally. WMDC wouldnt even run or Install, i should say, even though there was a setting portion in Control panel for it.

I found a article about how It wont run without running windows media player first. ( fresh Install and never ran it yet) So I went to run it only to find out It didnt exist.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate N which didnt have any Media Software included. ( Didnt know that) So, I downloaded the whole media pack and installed. then I ran media player once and Voila! All the phone drivers installed properly, WMDC Installed properly, Phone connected and sync'd.

Whew!! I'm glad thats over. I almost went back to XP Pro.

Windows 7 Ultimate is pretty nice. If anyone wants it, let me know. I found a good torrent and saved the ISO to my files for safe keeping. :)

I'm running two PCs with windows 7, one desktop with Windows 7 Professional (home) and a laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate (office). Currently I'm trying to sync to my laptop since that is what I sync to most.

After reading your post, this is what I tried:
1. Windows updates, it did install some windows mobile thingy which failed. I rebooted the machine, re-ran the update and it installed fine
2. Tried installing Windows Mobile Device Centre 6.1 (64-bit version) (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=4F68EB56-7825-43B2-AC89-2030ED98ED95&displaylang=en) again, but it failed. Same message of Unidentified device and status of failed :(
3. I also tried your solution of keeping windows media player running before attempting to install WMDC, but no joy

Can someone please let me know how I go about this? This is frustrating, if I can't synch my pda I might as well throw it out (since I can't chuck out my laptop or job :D)

BTW, I'm running Windows Mobile 6.1, should I be upgrading this to 6.5 as I have read out here? I've searched on this forum but can't seem to find a download link for 6.5 (or perhaps as ASCIIker pointed out I'm going blind )

I read this post and then was successful at installing device center. It was a weird install though. I am running 6.5 on the Tilt and Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop. I plugged the Tilt into the computer, started Media Player and configured it, and then launched the installer. It ran forever with the status bar saying 7 seconds to go. All the while, the diriver software was still trying to install. I finally got an error message from the driver software saying that it did not install properly. I opened up the troubleshooting box for the driver install and looked around a bit. Eventually, another message popped up in the driver install box saying it was trying again. Eventually, I another failure appeared. At that point, Device centered finished installing, the Tilt connected and all was well.

Total elasped time 20 minutes or so. Enough time to read a couple of pages on a new (to me) Andre Norton book and eat most of a popcorn popper full of popcorn.

Whew.

I have exactly the same setup, I upgraded my phone to the X2.V11 WM6.5 yesterday and am also running Windows 7 64bit on my laptop

I plugged the Tilt into the computer, started Media Player and configured it

This is the part I don't get, what exactly do I configure in Windows Media player? I plug in my phone, however, it doesn't seem to do anything, if I start windows media player and go to the sync tab, it is greyed out with the message 'Connect a device' Do you also uncheck the 'Enable faster data synchronization'? If I uncheck this, it does seem to try and install drivers for some 'Generic Serial' device but eventually comes back with 'Failed' :(

Well, I've tried the installer a zillion times now, no luck. It keeps trying for a couple of minutes with an 'Unidentified device' message and changes the status to failed subsequently :(

Why should it be so hard, I thought Windows 7 was supposed to make life easier, they obviously haven't heard of the phrase, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'

The media center was just the initial configuration that runs when you first start it up.

Sorry is this in response to my question earlier? If so, do I start windows media player or windows media centre? I haven't tried starting windows media centre with the device connected. I'll give that a try

The only way I've gotten Windows 7 WMDC to recognize my Tilt using TPC 11 Mega ROM is to connect using PAN over Bluetooth. I think the problem is that it doesn't report to Windows 7 that it's a Tilt or that Windows somehow knows that it's not supposed be running WM 6.5. Kinda sucks, but at least it works. To reflash I had to use the SD card since USB won't work.

I tried everything under the sun to get it working over USB. Finally had a friend with a Sprint Touch connect his using USB and it came right up, showed a little picture of his phone and worked fine. So it's definitely something in the way my Kaiser/Tilt is reporting the device to Windows. My phone is recognized by W7 and displays as a PDA, not a phone.

I'm on build 7100 and my Kaiser has been syncing flawlessly for months. My new Droid, on the other hand...No happiness yet. I've already made the call to swap the Droid for a TP2 strait across.

Been running 7 for a while now, both 32 bit and 64 bit dual boot. I've never had any issues with it not syncing, otherwise I would never be able to flash any ROMs on my phone. I even reformatted and reinstalled both after getting a legit copy from the MS Tour and it still works fine.

As someone who has been using activesync for a number of years, I would love to read a simple procedure for getting my Kaiser to sync with windows 7. Can someone post a step by step solution?
Thank you

This is what I did.

1. Installed Window Mobile Device Center from microsoft.com.
2. Connected device via USB.
3. Sync Center started up, and also Mobile Device Center.
4. Configured device.
5. Enabled Bluetooth connectivity using Bluetooth Devices applet in Windows.
6. Enabled Bluetooth Connection settings in Mobile Device Center.
7. Connected Mobile via Bluetooth in ActiveSync.

Thats it.

I have had no problem activesyncing 6.1 with Win7 x64, with bluetooth and with USB.
I am also using Win7 x64 with WMDC and have no problems connecting with my HTC/ATT Tilt WM6.1.

Is this problem WM6.5x specific?

Works fine on my WMDC with wm6.5 and win 7 64bit pro. Just seems to be a x86 issue only not a wm issue.

it did not work for 6.1 and for 6.5 ...:( .It is not critical anymore - I can copy past .cab if I need to install something and internet / wifi .

I asked HTC - official answer from them - "we did not support windows 7 "

Just wondering, did anyone actually get BlueTooth PAN on Win7 64bit to work? When I try to connect my PAN it cannot find the phone. Getting it to sync over BT is fine, just the PAN connection doesn't work...

When I connect my Kaiser (HTC Tytn II) to Win7 Ultimate 64-bit via USB, there is a beep and the phone turns on, but it never shows up in Windows Mobile Device Center.

The connection settings allow USB connections.

Please help - why is the phone not showing in WMDC?

try this... Start->Settings->Connections->USB to PC
uncheck the box for enhanced network functionality

I have to switch between Enabled on my work laptop (XP Prod) and home PC (Win7 Ultimate)

so how to make it work syncing...??

michalis95
16th July 2010, 05:27 PM
I can connect through 64 bit and not 32 bit, which is REALLY weird since 32 bit drivers are, you know, MORE. Anyway, its made by Microsoft, what do you expect. I believe its a marketing scam

Theory: Make a windows device = 200$ income
Make new Windows 7 = 200$ income
But thats probalby just 400$ from each user WHO HAS BOTH!!. well, thats not enough. Make those two products not work together = customers telephone = $$$ from calls. Then, make only 64 bit drivers so 32 bit users HAVE to upgrade = another 200$.

Am I right?? Anyway all this is out of the thread so,

Possible fix :
1. Remove the device from device manager and disconnect Kiaser from PC (see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb456985.aspx)
2. Uninstall Windows Mobile device center.
3. Reboot and reinstall WMDC.
4. Reconnect your Kaiser and hopefully the drivers should be reloaded.

Hope I helped

any updates on this?

- i can connect using it as modem via usb (either via starting on the device the internet sharing or hitting the settings > advanced network functionality) this actives the Generic RNDIS device on Windows 7 and disables the HTC USB Sync / Generic Serial device

- i can connect via the HTC USB Sync device: the device reports it is connected via USB and authenticated and Windows 7 Connection Settings Reports it is connected but I can not copy anything over. At least TC does nothing when trying to connect to it.

- BUT Windows 7 Mobile Device Center reports "not connected" and the active sync tool on the device shows nothing (no active sync relations)

I now tried a load of stuff, deleting and installing Mobile Device Center, removing the Generic RNDIS and/or the Generic Serial Device in combinations, plugging in plugging out but.... nothing.

I've only found one way to sync, but it's a bit convoluted:

Connect phone
Open Device Manager. If you don't have have a device listed under Portable Devices proceed to next step. If you do (with yellow warning / code 31), uninstall it.
Go to Action... Add legacy hardware.
Next... Install the hardware that I manually select (Advanced)
Next... Next... Next... Have Disk...
Browse to C:\WINDOWS\WINDOWSMOBILE\DRIVERS\WPD. Next time it will be in the list so you can arrow down.
Next... Next... Finish.

You should now be able to sync. You have to do this every time you reconnect the phone.

I did a LOT of things before finding this method so you may have to do something else first, not sure. But hopefully this can help those that are still having problems.
