Ok lez see...The place you are trying to find these folders is having inbox, sent items and all that stuffs?

Are you having thread mode enabled?
if
Yes, try turning it off and check.
No, are you able to create new folders from htc's inbuilt SMS app?

I am not sure for the interface and new things in HD2, but still there shudn't be much change.
to check for these folders open the SMS application HTCs default -> Menu -> Tools-> Manage Folder
This should show you all the folders you have... u can create delete new ones from this also.... just check and let me know

it seems this app is unlucky with HD2s, since it uses messageinterceptor api to chk incoming smses and thaz not working in HD2, need to wait till some thing comes up to fix it... chk here (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/windowsmobiledev/thread/3188ab8d-af1a-47e4-9146-2d60647ae3dc) for the issue

well never heard about this issue, what exactly you mean by gray screen?? any screenshots. also run rules is a non gui app which runs the rules once you have created them.
It will be easy to start if you could post some screenshot of the issue

Thank You for reply.
It is not problem to post screenshot but I am shure it will show nothing more what I can describe. When I start "CreateRules" it show 'Rules' dialog but when I press 'Menu' button on the bottom of screen screen is grayed out (dimmed), (same like in other apps when press menu button), but instead showing menu it show nothing. When I trying tap in place where menu should appear it randomly sow some menu elements but it still not working. Sometimes when I tap 'Menu' button it show some menu dialog border (typically only one - right one) but nothing inside. I made soft reset, reinstallation and still the same.

Actualization: After first press "Menu" button when screen is dimmed and show nothing if I tap "Menu" button another one screen is back to normal, but of course menu not appear.

Summary: It is like all will working ok but something is wrong with dialog window making it no visible.

Actualization2: In my ROM is Sense 2.5.20113030.0 very similar to HD2 maby it is problem?

Creating a simple rule to filter messages from a contact

So if that is case u have to follow these steps.

1. Open CreateRules from SMSRules folder in programs .
2. When it opens u will see two sections one will have all the contact names and other will have all the folders of poutlook.
3. Now u need to create a folder for best friend eg "Friends" for that click menu "Add folder" give a name in the text box and click OK.
4. Choose your "Best friend" from left side selection box. for this we have some more options(4) which
u can select from top right menu "Contacts from:"
a) Message-> Will list all the contacts who have messaged you
b) First Name-> lists all the contacts in your contact list by their first name
c)Last Name-> same as "b" but using last name
d)*CARD# -> Use this if you want any wildcard numbers to be filtered like a list of numbers which have same sequence like 988848569,98884646 u can give 9888 in there and it will choose both these numbers. also this is not limited to number u can give names also like "Best friends" name:)

Next step is what u want to do
Four options
a)Move-> moves the messages from inbox to selected folder
b)Copy -> keeps a copy of message in inbox and copy it to selected folder(only unread smses)
c)Delete-> Deletes the sms from seleted contact (choose any folder name won't matter)
d)Hide -> Hides the smses from the specific contact in a private folder.(incase your "Best friend" is your girlfriend u can opt for this):p


Now select the contact by choosing it from left list and the folder from right list.
Bottom status should display the contact and folder names
then FINALLY click "Add"
the status should show rule added :cool:

Now some extra stuffs...(its getting long :eek:)
if you want the rules to be applied automatically click menu-> autorun if you want to be notified click notify

to autorun you need to do one more thing "choose which rule should be autorun" for that go to "existing" tab at the bottom
Select contact rules
choose for folder" choose the folder name in which u will be moving your friends messages"
you should be able to see a check box with the rule name" your friend name or number"
select the check box.
Thaz it for today:D
click menu and exit
and wait for a message to come and then all you friends messages will be moved to the folder you have choosed.
or if you are eager you can runrules shortcut under SMSRules folder in programs.

Notifications

From 4.4 the app gives option to manage the notification.
To change the notification behaviour you have to set it from CreateRules.
Stay at the first tab("CreateRules")
click menu and you will see all the option you can use for the app.
Click Notification and it will Show 3 different notification types:
1. Notify Hid Messages this notification type depends on custom notification, if you have opted for receiving an custom notification then only you can set/unset this option.
Use: setting this option up will custom notify you about the messages that were hid. unset it and you wont get those.

2. Windows Notification this you can set/unset if you want the default windows notification on message arrival.

3. Custom Notification Set this up if you want to be notified about the rules which have been applied.

If custom notification is set up and some sms arrived which was under delete rule, the app wont notify.

Modes

from 4.4 the app has 3 modes of run
1. Autorun - choose his option if you want to filter the smses every time they arrive, this will be done automatically
2. Scheduled run - Use this option if you want to filter all the mesages only once a day at a specific time.
USE: to use this mode you have to be on the first tab. click menu and runtype choose Scheduled. a new window will open with the option to set up the time of run. It is in "HHMM" choose the option and Click Set button this should set up the schedule. In case you want to cancel the schedule click cancel and it wont run. you can see the status of the schedule at the menu. if it has been scheduled, menu will be checked.
3. Autorun + Scheduled Run :p No points for guessing ;)

would it be possible to password protect the rules configure bit.

as it is is nice to hide sms but people can see what you are hiding by going to the configure and looking at the rules.

So altough sms are hidden the person whose texts your hididng are in an open easy to view list

2nd point. sorry sound like a whiner but i think it is such a cool app and think you have done an amazing job

the notifcations. would it be possible to customise this or choose options for it.

it seems a little odd that a pop up appears saying 1 hidden message, when the point is you dont want people to know it is hidden. i know you can turn it off but then there is no notificaiton.


Also can I only add 1 card rule? i added it but in rules it is a blank name and then when i try to add a 2nd one with diff mobile number it says rule already exists.

i have tested this feature earlier and i checked it now also and it seems to be working as expected... not sure wat is messing up there...
one thing i understood from your post is that it is creating an empty rule for every wildcard number so it is erroring out with rule exist error as already an empty rule is there...:o
I am not sure why it is doing so but need to figure it out. It seems the steps are correct but one thing can u make sure that when you add the wildcard rule, you select it first from left side list before clicking add:o. Just to confirm in case u didn't.

sorry Dagaz, no time to debug... was working with other app.
well it is very difficult to figure out just by looking at the code as every thing works fine for me on my device and emulators... so cant even debug...

Hi Mohit - I noticed that when you create a new folder from ContactRules and go to Tools right after, the new folder is not shown under Archive Folders and Filter Folder. For the time being, you just restart the app to see the new folder. Can you please add a Refresh button to refresh the folders lists!

Hi Mohit - I am finally playing with the features in Tools. I did not experience any problem with archiving a folder. That works fine! The one that I am struggling with is to be able to apply my existing rule with Sent Items.

Here are my steps:


go to ContactRules

click Add

except hiding have you checked if other filtering is working. Like move, copy.
Also i would like to know what steps you followed to hide and show the hidden messages. I know it is boring but I have to know othewise i wont know where is the problem.

Besides what Mohit has already asked you, when you said "message is deleted", do you mean the message disappeared completely or the message was stored in the Deleted Items? I already had a similar problem, and it was related with the fact that I had the threaded message mode turned on.

I'm using hTC Diamond2 (topaz) with a customized ROM.
If I enable the "HTC Menu Enhancement" from TD2 Tools (a program to tune up the phone), the menus in SMSRules will not work.
This isn't a big issue because I can always disable the menu enhancement and deal with SMSRule first then turn it back on, but so far SMSRules is the only app that is having problems with it.

Another issue, this app doesn't seem to get along with the new hTC SMS app (sorry, my custom ROM doesn't have the traditional Windows SMS app). I can't see the hidden messages in my hTC SMS if I wanted to (i.e. "show" all hidden messages). Also, if I set the hTC SMS app in "conversation mode", it will still show the first line of the last hidden message from that contact.

I know this app was designed for the traditional Windows SMS app, but if I can get it working on the new hTC SMS app, that would be really neat.:D

well for the first time somebody has told me why these issues are there...:D since i have not seen/used any of the new functionality in HDs(i dont have one:o) i was not able to figure out the problems.

as donfano said you can try by turning off the threaded mode.
In case you dont want to be alerted with hidden messages alert just uncheck that option and it will just tell u abt copied/moved messages.

one thing though...some people can still open the 'createrules' GUI and see the rules that you actually 'hide' some message for a certain contact.

Can we protect this by a password as well? or better yet, maybe hide it until we put password to show the rules or something?

have you unchecked the default notification?
well as i have mentioned earlier...well long back in forums that this hiding logic is not perfect you might see the message in inbox just before it gets copied to private folder.

I am planning to create a new standalone app that will be better than this one but i am not sure when as i have lot of pending mods for other apps also.

Are you sure that messages were moved without knowing where you moved them!!! you have to set up the rules first with the rule type and folder and if you want that it should run automatically then also you need to configure it first.
And i would like to know how many messges do you had in your inbox? If it were large then i suppose it will take some time to filter those.(for how long you let it run before u killed it?)

yup 30min is a long time...so after u killed it did you checked if the messages were filtered?(inbox count should have reduced.)
as i said it moves them... u create seperate folders...in poutlook... i hope you have a normal tmail.exe as your sms client, and u are not using threaded mode. if it is so just browse back in this forum and you will find some simmilar kind of issues.

so how u tried moving the messages in private folder... I suppose u used the default application. by the way did you check your delete folder?

yes i checked and the messages were gone out of inbox... it even told me that they were moved, couldn't find them yet cause the private folder i didn't know that time how to get to. Now i know but in that meantime the program crashed...
i created a folder but the messages never came into that folder...
i usse portable outlook and have the regular sms client (also exchange and hotmailaccounts but they are on the side.)
i don't know where i can find the client tmail.exe as you said, can you tell me how to find it? and treaded mode i really cannot find either:s

yes i checked and the messages were gone out of inbox... it even told me that they were moved, couldn't find them yet cause the private folder i didn't know that time how to get to. Now i know but in that meantime the program crashed...
i created a folder but the messages never came into that folder...
i usse portable outlook and have the regular sms client (also exchange and hotmailaccounts but they are on the side.)
i don't know where i can find the client tmail.exe as you said, can you tell me how to find it? and treaded mode i really cannot find either:s

threaded mode means u can see the conversation as you see in some chat messenger.:rolleyes:
Just a confirmation test. are u able to follow the steps:
1. open the default sms client.
2. menu
3. Tools
4. Manage folders
Do you see the list of all the folders present? and are you able to create/delete them?

And what rule you had created u said only move copy in the first post, or did you created for hide also?

I had a similar problem where I could not find the hidden messages. This was caused by the fact that I had the threaded mode on. I tried to follow your discussion with Mohit, and I did not read anywhere that you actually hid or moved the messages. You probably discussed this with Mohit offline, but I just wanted to know if it is the exact same problem I had before.

Was your rule to HIDE or MOVE messages? What did the notification report? Moved or Hidden?

Few things that shud be clear now is that.
1. Program wont save your messages anywhere, it just moves them around.
2. If messages are deleted and you dont have a backup plan, the messages are lost.

Donfano has replied to your post, as he mentioned this issue seems to be same as his. He may be the better guide for this issue.

Well not sure about what u can get to clean your smses as i did this because i wanted one :D

aoch88 bytheway i suppose you are using the 4.5b, could you try with 4.3b and check if it is working...!!! in one of post for a simmilar issue 4.3 was working...

Need Help Pls :)

The application I installed has some issues.

The problem is; that the sms messages sent by contacts ( which have rules to be moved to a specific folder ) are deleted. And they cannot be located anywhere.

Am I missing something here ?

What I do is;

1- Run "Create Rules"
2- From "ContactRules"
a- Add a folder ( i.e: Spam ) from the "menu"
b- select "MOVE" as rule action
b- Select "MESSAGE" in Contacts Form
c- Select the sepcific contact from the "Add contact" list.
d- Select that folder from "To Folder" box.
e- Then tap on "add"

It says "rule added"

f- Check " Autorun " From "RUN TYPE" in the MENU

I can verify it from Existing -> Contact Rules -> For folder -> Spam folder.

So I start Testing it.

It's there but the "Auto" box next to it is not checked.

Test sender sends the SMS message.. Nothing happens. Message is still in inbox.

then I open "smsrules" again, Go to "Existing", select the rule and check the "AUTO" box.

Then I test again. Test contact sends SMS. Something happens now.. And what happens is, the sms message is now deleted.

Not in any folder, not even inbox, deleted, SPAM ( folder that it should have been moved to ) .. SMS has been permenantly deleted. Even checked the "PRIVATE" folder in some hope.. but nah.. it's nowhere..

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Or is this a program issue ?

Mohit - It's becoming common lately to see users with the problem of finding the messages that have been filtered, and most of the time it was caused with the fact that the thread mode was enabled. Personally, I prefer to use the thread mode, and I turn it off when I need to enable the autorun. It would be nice if you ever find the solution to this... one of these days!:p

I've had the same problem as you. It did not matter what rules I erased, the sms went to the inbox and my interceptor couldn't see them... until this morning. In my case, it was a device problem: I have an HTC Touch HD2, and HTC has its own sms program to send and receive sms, which has more priority to intercept the incoming SMS than the SMSInterceptor itself. If you disable it (I found an app called 'Disable HTC Messaging' in Google, I cannot find the link right now) you'll be able to use incoming SMS with the traditional SMS Interceptor.

If you don't have an HTC, I don't know what it can be.

Hi Mohit - I have good and bad news!:p Let's start with the good one! I have run several tests, and COPY, MOVE, and HIDE all work fine. This is great because I have been waiting for this for awhile on threaded mode:D

Now the bad news!:(

Let's start with the minor one!:rolleyes: This one does not cause any problem, as far as I know, but I just want to report it with my steps below:

Sent an sms to my mobile from another mobile
Opened Filter Rules
Created a rule to copy the sms from the other mobile to another folder
Ran rule --> notification indicates "Copied: 1"
Went to Existing screen
Deleted the copy rule
Went to ContactRules screen
Created a rule to move the sms from the other mobile to another folder
Ran rule --> notification indicates "Copied: 1":confused: and "Moved: 1"


Now about the REAL problem! The autorun does not run the rules. I can see the busy cursor, but nothing gets processed whether to hide, copy, or move the messages.

sorry have been so busy that i didn't have time to check here...

My rule said hide and move, but the folder i had made myself didn't have any messages in it after the app moved/hide them. THe app was hanging after moving/hiding them and i had to uninstall, cause after few times trying restarting etc the app wouldn't work...
how could i get the messages back? i didn't install yet other apps as i'm afraid to overwrite them when it was created in a file which i have to discover.

For the pc i used one time when i had my harddrive crash the programm rstudio to recover files after formatting the harddrive... is there something like that for the mobile phone or it there a possibility to hang the phone on my laptop and rstudio from the laptop? now only the memory card is showed on explorer:((

hope you can help me with recovering the messages as i really need them...:(

Just try your phone search (messaging) check if that shows your missing messages

maybe i send you better the whole smsrule dir?
i'm also trying to get the dir back after removing it, normally i use rstudio but now the file system is strange tfat and no regular fat:( so the app won't recognise the file system, too bad:(

What do you mean by map? i didnt get it:confused:
also i see some copy and move rules but no hide rules there...
IF you were using thread mode and ran "move rule" it might have deleted the smses and recovering it cannot be a option now.

What device you have? I think you had mentioned but i am in no mood to go back in posts, it is already 4AM here i need to sleep:o :D
Well i suggest in case your device is HD like and you are using HTC sms please read some of the previous threads they might point something. In case you never backed up your sms, ask some one from xda and not in this thread on how to get back SMS or at least is it possible?

just wonder if it is possible to filter the sms that i send to specific number? i tried to reply the sms inside private folder but the sent sms still leave a copy in the sent folder.... can this be hide as well?

i can set up rules to hide incoming sms from a specific number that is not in the contact.

just wonder if it is possible to filter the sms that i send to specific number? i tried to reply the sms inside private folder but the sent sms still leave a copy in the sent folder.... can this be hide as well?

You can go to Tools, select "Sent Items" from Filter Folder, and tap on "Filter Sent Items" button. By doing so, you are applying existing rules on the Sent Items folder. This process can only be performed manually.

No this app has no such feature. But in my signature u can find my other app SMSSyncUp which impliments a similar feature + backups the sms to your email account.

SMSFilter and FilterRules are two seperate apps they dont interfere, but SMSFilter will have more preference than FilterRules, so ur data stays...

That blank line should not be there you should delete it.
also the contact name should match exactly in the rules and the arriving message and select those items from the list which u want to filter.

it should be less or exactly same number, by less i mean if number id 123456789 you can enter 1234567, 123456, 12345678 anything... but this will act as a pattern and will filter message which has this number.
I am not sure abt the compatibility but as you said keeping a blank line was filtering all, so it means it is working.
try one more thing, after you have created the rule go to menu-> Run rules
does this filters the messages? and is the run type set as Autorun?

This problem has been discussed several times in this thread. search for it. anyways if u want to use automatic filtering it wont work on HD2 other things will work including manual filtering.

Could you post the SMSFilter issue in the related thread so that other members may also be able to help u out.
People have reported that SMSFilter works fine in HD2,could u plz let me know the steps u did and which version u used? and post that in SMSFilter thread(Jump to it from my signature).

Depends on you and your need.
Once you have received an sms that u never want to see again add that in delete rule.
or define some message rule that, that anonymous message may contain...
at the end you have to give some rule to fit your needs, it is not that smart.

In about tab again open menu and there u can see "about tab>personal>show" on menu as activated. Open that and it will ask u to setup the password.

This has already been discussed in here... you can go through the previous posts to find a solution or fix... or in case u want some private message filltering u may use my other app the specifically does this only...SMSFIlter can find the link in my signature.

2) Yes is the first time I ran it and I had like 70 message per contact. Now I can only see the oldest (like 2008 messages or the newest, depend the contact). In some casses I can see 2008 messages and the newest dissapear and in another contacts I can see the latest messages.

this looks like while it was busy filtering ur messages u killed it ;) so that is y u can see that some contacts have old messages and some have new...
well chk ur PM for step to reset the password after it is reset and u open the private folder u can see ur hidden messages.

I tried a test case specifically to fire the rule - the 'Give it a try' notification from the site www.windowsliveformobile.com/en-in/home/default.aspx
The message gets deleted, but the notification occurs nevertheless.

Any hope of getting the Notification suppression to work? This is my main requirement - avoiding the alerts from spam SMS.

go to abouts tab and there you can see the activated menu option.

Hi Mohit,

Just wanted to try SMS Rules. Unfortunately the "Menu" button on display a black filled rectangle when I click on it a second time a white border is drawn and clicking it a third time closes it.

Or to say in simple words: "Menu" Button does not work on newer WM 6.5.5 Roms on HD2 it seems.

Just one other thing. How about making the font smaller, I know it should be usable without stylus but still no need for such huge fonts.

If you can make the "Menu" Button work, how about more filtering options. For example Filter SMS only when a specific schedule is in place. for example mo-fr from 8am to 5pm delete messages with text "Buy now", or something like that.

At the moment I'm using MagiCall but my trial will expire soon and I was looking for a better free sms filtering application but at the moment it seems sms filter can't do very much in fact, at least not to my requirements. Too bad, it looked interesting.

for a while, i've been using ur SMSRules (v4.5) in my HTC Touch2 T3333 and very happy about it. its a great app by the way, thx for developing it :)

There's one thing that catch my attention though, the Show Private Folder aka Pocket Folder app (when using Show ALL messages) is getting slow and slower when the hidden message become a lot. I try to use the slide bar (newer and older) to show 20 messages only and instead getting the newest 20 messages, I get my oldest 20 messages.

can u fix that please? or its already include in v4.6?

I assume you are filtering messages using the string "*". If that is the case, then you don't likely have any messages with "*". I would try blank as in " ". All messages should at least have a blank.
