Some of the things which it enables you to do!!

2. Create/Delete user folders.
3. Hide private messages.
4. Automatically delete messages.
5. Archive messages and store in a date-wise folders.
6. Apply rules either automatically or manually.
7. Apply some rules automatically and some manually.
8. Contact and Message content based filtering.
9. Low on memory and battery. No background process to monitor SMS.
10. View and delete created rules. :) Silly to mention it.
11. Simple Deployment and easy interface. works from storage Card.
This was developed with the help of open source project MAPIDotNet (http://www.codeproject.com/KB/mobile/PocketPCandSmartphone.aspx?display=Print).
Needs .NET CF 3.5
Using and Configuring SMSRules
1. All rules are configured through CreateRules GUI in program shortcut.
2. Initial Password also needs to be configured through Createrules GUI (about tab->personal->show)
3. AutoRun, Manual filtering of user folders, Archiving all done through CreateRules GUI.
4. After setting up rules you can use Runrules to filter SMSes.

GUIDE (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5595058&postcount=276)
FAQs:
1>How to autorun the rules?
To autorun a rule/rules autorun option should be checked in the main menu. auto run run only those rules which have auto option selected.
2>Can I create/delete folders using this?
yes, but you can only create and delete the user folders in SMS account
3>Will copy option copy every time it is run?
No, copy option will copy the message into destination folder and mark the copied message as read at both places. so only unread message will be copied.
4>What folder to select with delete option?
you can select any folder as the message is finally going to be deleted so it wont matter(better option is to chose "deleted items" as it is easy to view in rules view)
5>What is HIDE option!(EDIT)
this option can only be used for now in contacts page.
V3.1>If a message comes from the user it will be deleted from the inbox and saved inside the application. also autorun should be enabled for this feature to work.
V4.1>From v4.1 messages are moved to a hidden folder in the Outlook, so basically the messages are still in outlook but u can't see those.
6> Where to look for HIDDEN messages(EDIT)?
to view hidden messages go to about page and there personal menu->show and select the dropdown to select the user for which u want to see the messages.
From v4.1>To see the hidden messages u have to provide correct password and then click on the show private folder button. Doing this will create a new folder(PRIVATE) and will have all the private messages of yours ;)
From v4.3 An extra shortcut has been supplied which will directly allow you to hide/show private smses. But you need to initially set password from the createrules application.
7>Can i delete the hidden messages?
Yes you can. In 3.1 just select and delete the message and from 4.1 delete it like you delete any other message from your outlook.
8>Do i need to create a folder to store a hidden message?
No, there is no need to select any folder name as application will take care of it. and in view rules option you can find your hidden messages rule in folder named as "#".
9>What is this "#" in contact rules folder dropdown?
refer FAQ 8.
10>How frequently will this app be updated?
As frequently as ideas pour in. ;)
11>What is the initial password?
There is no initial password. After installing v3.1/v4.1 opening personal messages will ask you for a password, that will be used automatically in next logins.
Before using the new PrivateSMS shortcut in 4.3 you need to set up a password for use through CreateRules gui.
12>Can I change password?
Yes, when you have created a password and want to change it you can do that by checking the change password checkbox and providing the old and then the new password.
13>I forgot my password, can i recover it?
no, Contact me here for the solution. ;)
NOTE: You have to create a new password from CreateRules link before you try to use the PrivateSMS shortcut.
14>How to install/Uninstall it?
please uncheck autorun before installing/uninstalling.
15> How to hide the PRIVATE folder?
Just close the application or again provide the password and there you can see the same button will have a text prompt to hide the folder.
For PrivateSMS shortcut it will give you an option to hide also, even if you close the application it will automatically hide the folder.
16> How can i Delete all Private messages?
to delete all the hidden messages go to your private area by providing password and there u can click on the delete private messages button, which deletes all the private messages.
17>When i go to my SMS folder i cant see any PRIVATE folder!
PRIVATE folder will be enabled only when u have started the application and clicked the show button after proving the password.
18>Do i need to create a PRIVATE folder first on my own?
No, there is no need to do so as the application will take care of it.
19>So what folder name should i give to HIDE rule?
refer FAQ8
20>Do i need to delete my earlier rules?
No there is no need to so but all the messages which were stored earlier with hide option wont be accessible. if you used 3.1
21>I want to save my earlier rules! what to do?
Just install the application at the same location or copy the rules.db, ur password and all the rules will remain same.
CHANGES IN 4.1
1. Modified the hide logic, now saves the messages in outlook.(Thanks to krups (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=1324574) for sharing the idea)
2. Fixed some bugs.
3. Autorun application now won't remain running after a message arrives(saving battery and memory).
Changes in 4.2
1. Autorun option stops wm default notification and provides custom notifications for the rules applied. Unchecking Autorun starts wm notification.(Seems it may toggle threaded mode in some devices. U may try this solution (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1961736&postcount=21))
2. Contact names are now in order.
3. First Name last name rules now working.
4. One more option added to add wildcard numbers. to match common format numbers.
5. Some minor fixes.
6. Select option to view PRIVATE folder in SMS inbox opens the tmail application automatically.
Changes in 4.3
If 4.2 is installed please first un-check autorun.
1. Horizontal ScrollBar added to add contact list.
2. New Tab added (Tools), gives option to Archive selected folders.
Archiving will move all the messages from the selected folders to the ArchivedSMS folder and create a subdirectory tree with same name as of the source folder and under that will create folders datewise.Eg
ArchivedSMS->Inbox->Inbox_160110
Tools tab also provides another option to run the rules over any subfolders.
Select the folder from the dropdown list and then apply rules.
3. New shortcut added in program menu with name "Private SMS" which enables you to access your private folder directly.
NOTE: You have to create a new password from CreateRules link before you try to use the shortcut.
4. The time for which wait cursor was getting displayed when a SMS is intersepted, has been reduced.
5. While changing the password from the main application it asks for the new password two times to confirm.
6. Enabling/Disabling Autorun changes the way the New Text Message is notified. Now this will change the sound and notification settings.
Changes in 4.3a
Modifies the cab to create a folder and keep all the exes shortcuts there.
Added a slider control in PrivateSMS application to fetch number of private smses it should display. Keeping it low will display the last one and maximum will show all.
This was done incase you have alot of Private SMS it used to take time to show them, this option reduces the time by limiting the number of smses you want to see
Changes in 4.4
1. Made custom notification optional, you can now select, to have or not to have a notification displayed when a sms is filtered. You can choose it from Createrules GUI menu.
2. If you have opted to be notified it will display only one notification for all the sms you receive and will have two buttons in notification window, one to close the notification and other to refresh, refresh updates the no of rules completed, incase there were more messages filtered after the first time notification was displayed.
Changes in 4.5
1. Menu modified.
2. Option added for scheduled run(Only at first tab)
3. Control over notification, choose over windows default notification, custom notification and hidden rules notification.
4. One bug fix
Changes in 4.5b
1. Fixed SMS filtering in case filtering was done in Sent items
Changes in 4.6b
1. Size reduced
2. Faster filtering
3. Should Work on threaded mode :) Finally

1. Autorun option wont work in HD2. Is this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5948414&postcount=393)a fix?
Your Comments are welcome
Plz report bugs....
PLZ TAKE A BACKUP (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1189061&postcount=1) OF YOUR MESSAGES, I DONT WANT TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST MESSAGES:o Just a precaution "Never happened"
!!!WARNING!!!
Suggested by: LCyberFox
This app uses the MessageInterceptor APIs (to save battery power) from PocketOutlook which is very buggy. may cause tmail (pocket outlook) to lag or completely freeze if you receive messages quickly back to back.
A post on that:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/For...-a455840c75d4/ (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/For...-a455840c75d4/)
ps: This *ONLY* applies if you are using this app using the "Auto" mode, if you aren't, then you're safe :)
Incase you are about to uninstall it PLZ *UNCHECK AUTORUN* or may still lead to some lags.

How exactly should a rule be written?
My goal is to write a rule so that:
messages starting with,
and/or ending with,
a certain word or several words,
(without a difference in capital letters or not),
get moved to a certain folder that I've created in my SMS/MMS inbox.
My failed attempt so far was to try it the following way:
I created a folder called "Filter".
I then created a new Message Rule.
For the rule I entered "BANANA" in the "Filter Message" box.
I selected the folder in the list called "FILTER".
I pressed "Add".
Now it's in the existing message rules when I select the FILTER folder.
That obviously didn't work but it was a fun try :P
Sidenote 1: I'm using an HTC Touch Pro 2 (European Version) with threaded messages disabled so I could create a new folder in my SMS/MMS inbox.
Sidenote 2: The program's working perfectly on a WVGA screen. Even when I slide out my keyboard and the screen turns it still works fine, apart from the fact that half of the screen hides as no scroll bars appear. This is easily resolved by sliding the keyboard back in.
Sidenote 3: It would be great if the "Unkown Contact" could be added. (The one that lacks a first and last name in the address book.)
I haven't seen the program work yet but I'm loving it already. :D

Thanks for testing it ysva
well after creating the filter rule did you run it  Menu-> run rules ?
well the current filter works like it will search for whole message content for the given filter and that will be case insensitive.
and also it wont work for MMS:o

You're welcome mohitsapru.
I created 1 rule.
I opened the "MessageRule" tab.
The filter message was "BANANA", (which I entered in capital letters for tests with case sensitivity).
I selected the folder called FILTER and then I pressed "Add".
EDIT: I did get the "Message rule added" message.
The rule had been added to the "message rules" in the "Existing" tab.
I then continued to send myself a couple of text messages from a different phone number with messages such as "BANANA", "banana", "test BANANA", "banana test".
I then went back to press the "Run Rules" button. The windows loading icon appeared for a couple of seconds.
Then I went to check the "Inbox" folder and the text messages are still there. The "Filter" folder is still empty. I will now do some tests to see what happens if I choose a different folder.

Another result of testing: I just deleted the BANANA rule and the application crashed with an unknown error.
The error is as follows:

I will continue my tests.

You're still welcome.
After the error I ran the program again and it worked normally. The rule that I had deleted (that caused the error) was gone so that was fine too. I did not get another error. Perhaps it only happens when one deletes the rule, adds it again in the exact same way but with a different folder, and tried to delete it again. That's what happened the last time.
I tried selecting different folders and creating different text messages with BANANA in different folders, but that didn't work. The situation did not when if my inbox was open at the same time as your program or not. I am thinking that HTC's Touchflo might be interfering or that I need to soft reset my phone, I'm going to try that now.
Suggestion: Perhaps it would be easier if a folder could be selected that would be scanned for a certain criterium and then a folder could be selected where to move it to.
EDIT: Suggestion 2: For in the future when you're bored and have absolutely nothing to do and want to add new features: Option to auto mark as read for everything that gets moved.
Note: I noticed that you're using WM 6.5, I'm still using 6.1 because HTC has not yet provided an official upgrade for the european version of the HTC Touch Pro II. I do have the latest .NET framework etc. etc. installed. Might there be a compatibility issue?

I found out why it is erroring while deleting a rule... when either no selection has been done or no rule is selected...
Well sorry for confusion i am using wm6.1 cooked rom.... i just keep changing ROMS more than changing Signature ;)
I have manila2d and it keeps showing SMSes. well i tried with my inbox open and ran a rule and it is working... maybe someone can give inputs for their runs... maybe some issues with different OS versions...

Looks promising - stick in & you'll get there mate.
Some feature requests...
Move to hidden (hidden) folder (not sure how you would implement - ideas welcome) - this might include an option to prevent the audible / vibration alert
Option per rule to intercept incoming SMS to process rule on arrival of new messages (this is fairly easy)
Composite rules (like outlook) e.g. 1:Move message to 2:secret where 3:body 4:contains 5:sexy
The numbered underlined parts of the 'Composite rules' are a choice of
Move / Delete / Copy
Folder / Secret folder
Body / Sender Name / Sender Number
Contains / Start with / Ends With / Equals
Criteria
PS, there are VGA emulators available from MS for testing :)
Lastly, if any of these are already implemented, my apologies, I haven't tried your app (yet) but I will - I just wanted to show my interest.
Cheers, sd00

good thinking!
my locale isn't english but dutch (the language they speak in the Netherlands, Europe. not to be confused with deutsch, that's german). the du
tch language is often shortened by the code 'NL' (same as other languages us-en, fr, de, etc.)
do I need to do some research for you of where my messages could be located according to my locale or find translations?

Hi yinx,
Could you please confirm if you have threaded sms enabled? as this might be a reason and in case it is then u need to change it to normal view using advance configuration tool or in registry change SMSInboxThreadingDisabled value to 1 which can be found in
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\OEM

I think i know why this app is not working on non-WWE ROM..it is because this app cannot read/detect unicode characters in the contacts...it only detects LATIN ALPHAPBET...
I tried rule with my contact containing symbol "{" and "}" ... the rule not working...i think this app cannot detect symbols in contact too...

well will do that but i think it wont be possible with these wrappers, since these wrappers are just used for message interseption and handling. blocking a folder doesnt seem possible with it... anyways will check out...

I am not sure wether is it working or not... since i havnt got much feedback from the users... since i dont know how sms folders are named in Non wwe roms, i cant tell exactly why is it happning. my best guess is that non wwe rom are having folder names in local language for "INBOX" and "SMS/MMS" since i am "exactly" searching for these folders in my code, this might be the part where it skips the INBOX folder...

Yes tested that(FAILS:o), well figure it out... right now i am rewriting the app again to include some features which were not possible with current implimentation... also i will try to get it working for non-wwe roms.
Also for hiding a folder there is no implimentation as such in the wrappers i use...(Confirmed)
well hope any one comes up with that idea.(or may be i will ;) who knows... need to complete pending things first)

Sorry JoOoSs, i didnt get what exactly is the problem you are facing. do you mean it is not applying the rules to previously received messages in the inbox?
Just to clarify my self...
The way app works is:
1) It can only apply rules to messages in the inbox(including old ones).
2) we have 3 ways to handle messages. A. Move B. Copy C. Delete
3) you have an option to auto run rules, if auto is checked the rule will be tested and filtered every time a new message arrives.
To enable autorunning of rules select auto run from menu.

No, i will try to explain it :
I create a new rule like it : COPY message of my contact to the "xxxx" folder. I set it to auto (i checked it on existing).
Now, when a new message of my contact arrives, the app doesn't copy only the new message, it copy the older messages too at each new message, so i have many duplicated messages in my folder. =/
Do you understand what i mean or not ?

i just enabled the notification messages. i believe u meant sent message notification...well in that case i can select contact as system administrator and apply any rule to it. and u can fetch any contact whether it is in ur contact list or not, from contacts from messages dropdown list(it's default option).

Hi Mohit,
This is very nice app. I was searching for auto hiding certain SMS or something related around last year, but no luck, so I coded very roughly and currently using it.
If you had developed this application last year, I would not have tried and coded it, instead used this app directly, hehe :D Good Job!
Regarding hiding SMS, I did some weird thing but its working. I replied you on the topic in CodeProject forum.
Did you find something to create new message in specific folder using this MAPI .net wrapper? Actually I wanted to intercept incoming message using .NET message interceptor (with NotifyAndDelete option) and then copy this intercepted message in to specific folder using MAPI.NET wrapper. I want this because, I don't want application to be running all the time.
Happy Coding!

Thanks Krupal,
regarding moving a message to new folder u can set the move option to true in copy message method.(if i got u correct),then u can just move the message to the desired folder.
And about notifyanddelete option i am not using it since i have to apply rules according to user preference so i am just using Notify option and using that start an application that will take care of message handling. this application will run and exit after processing the messages.
the caller application (messageinterceptor) will trigger automatically even if the application is not running.
if this is what u want please let me know i can provide u with further details.
and thanks for that message hiding hint... well since Jugad is India's invention this could have been expected from an Indain only
well i will try it out but dont think will add it in existing app. maybe next time... since my phone touchscreen is not working... so wont be able to test it much.

Sorry to hear your phone's touchscreen is not working :(
:) Actually, for moving message i use the same thing you described. But I need to create a message in specified folder rather than moving. Currently I m doing the same way you mentioned, like using notify option and then moving message with triggered application. The issue with this is, other message parsing applications like manila or s2u2 will bring up this message on the screen which we intended to hide, also, message will be come in to inbox and this will make new sms ringtone notification; instead i want to handle notification my self :)

Just a clarification/confirmation.. do you want to move each and every message, as notify and delete will delete all the new messages.(if i am not wrong) so we need to handle all new messages.
edit: was going thru some forums where i read this (http://forums.asp.net/t/1182007.aspx) check the last one. seems my understanding was not correct for notifyanddelete option and according to him this should do the job. Right?

It seems there is some confusion. Let me explain in detail:
I want to hide all incoming SMS arrived from specific number. So I have created message intercept on specific number. Currently I am using notify option, which takes the message in to inbox and after that I move this message using MAPI.NET wrapper to hidden folder. But as this takes message to inbox, other message parsing apps like manila (tf3d) and S2U2 brings up this new sms on the screen. Instead I want to intercept new message (with notify and delete) in such a way that it never goes to inbox instead i want it directly to be moved to hidden folder.
If I use notify and delete option, on message interception event I get full new SMS, but I am not able to find out a way to copy this new SMS in to hidden folder. If there is some method in MAPI to create a message in specific folder, this could be achieved. Are you aware of such method? Also I don't want to store message in some other db or file. I want it in hidden folder at message store itself.
Hope this time it is more clear :)
Thanks for helping me out.

RemoteTracker is completely written in C# and uses the concept of the "wait for change receive SMS" (notification broker). Somehow on the HD2 it is intercepted by HTC SMS handler. I looked at another open source application "ReRemind", this is written in VB and C# but a C++ service is running in the background and doing this waiting. It has no problems intercepting the change on "incoming call" and "wakeup". I'm a little bit lost which method/code is better to use.
I will send you a PM with my email address.

I couldn't figure out how to do it, so if its possible I apologize and hope you can tell me how to do it. If its not possible than take it as a suggestion.
So here the deal:
I forward some of my emails to my phone, because I don't use the account very often other than for the thing that gets forwarded to my phone. So when I get a message its from sender 1001010203 and each time I get a new message from that account it goes up so 1001010204, 205, 206 etc..
So I wanted to create a rule where I could auto-move/delete anything with contact of 1001010* to catch all that are like that.
What do you think?
Thanks in a advance.

So is ur device a touchscreen? also i went thru some forums where i found out that this is basically problem with the type of device.
the app is built for a windows mobile 6 professional device or PocetPC so in other device like classic or smartphone they dont support buttons on forms so this is erroring out as i have buttons on forms.

Hi DuMnUt101,
I just went thru the app again and now it seems that it would be a major rework to impliment it. I suggest that why dont u use message filter, i am sure that ur fwd email notifications must have some common text. u can put that as filter.

SMSRule4.1 is now available.
v4.1 installed on WinMo6.5 on HTC HD2.
My Rule 1:
Rule Action: HIDE
Contacts From: FIRST NAME
To Folder: Conversations
My Rule 2:
Rule Action: HIDE
Contacts From: MESSAGES
To Folder: Conversations
Possible Bug:
- After adding password, clicking on View Private Folder crashes the app.
- Doesn't recognize names if Contact File As is Last name, First name. Hence fails to HIDE the Message #Applies to RULE 1#
- When select message to HIDE it hides the message from that person under Manila view, but when we click 'All Messages', it displays the Message. #Applies to RULE 2#
Suggestion:
- Contacts from: FIRST NAME -> The contacts should appear in Alphabetical order
- Contacts from: -> It should recognise contacts with FIRST NAME only in the Contact field
- Contracts from: -> It should display contacts with Company name only.

yes i have tested as per your suggestion and i found some bugs which are there. I think no one tested it:o including me:D(more than 6000 downloads) i just use message contacts which works fine for me/other. well bugs accepted and will be fixed. A REAL THANKS to you.
Regarding the last one about hiding bug i am not sure why this should happen maybe they have fixed something in new outlook. as i have tested it in emulator and my HTC touch and it works just fine. so in detail when when u click all messages where do u see the message? is it in inbox? what happens when u click show private folder, is the hidden message there?
Yes i know u said it crashed the first time, but should work fine the next time u enter the password.
There are lot of questions but just need to know where is the problem.
Thanks,

Thanks Jibreil for testing it.
yes i have tested as per your suggestion and i found some bugs which are there. I think no one tested it:o including me:D(more than 6000 downloads) i just use message contacts which works fine for me/other. well bugs accepted and will be fixed. A REAL THANKS to you.

Hi Mohit,
In HD2 the messages come in 'Conversations', I'm not using the Inbox | Sent Box mode. So when I click on All Messages, the message is there with the default view of Conversations.
When the app crashed it deleted all the rules and resetted itself to the default mode. Hence, the Private folder appeared to be blank.
Even after I uninstalled the SMSRule app, I couldn't see the SMS via Manila but when I clicked All Messages the SMS was there.
Go here: HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.NETCompactFramework. Change the DWORD data of entry 2.0.7045.00 from 1 to 0. Next Change the DWORD data of entry 3.5.7283.00 from 0 to 1 and then reset. This disables 2.0 and enables 3.5.
Have you done the above on your phone? I had not done this RegTweak prior to installing/running your app. Could this be a reason for the Bugs occurring?
Have a couple of questions regarding notifications of SMS's:
-> If I get a SMS which is a part of the Rule I have set to HIDE. How will I be notified? Will I get a normal notification of an incoming SMS OR are you planning to implement a custom notification for the same?
-> If the default notification comes on the Taskbar (on top) will that notification automatically go away after we have read the message from the Private folder?
-> Does your app require the use of .NET Framework Messages 3.5?
Suggestion:
-> Combine the 'Create Rules' & 'Run Rules' into one application.
-> Make the UI more Touch friendly (more of like Resco Explorer 2010)
-> Add a feature that scans the Conversation OR Inbox for existing SMS's after a new Rule is defined. For e.g. if I set a Rule to HIDE ALL SMS's from ABC, then it should scan the SMS box and HIDE ALL SMS's to the Private folder. Make this option Manual rather than Auto.
-> Add a feature to multi select Inbox/Sent Box/Drafts etc. within one rule itself. It's avoids the trouble of creating multiple rules.
P.S. On my Nokia E75 I've been using Private Call&SMS Guard 5.1 by symbianon.com It would be just awesome if you could implement the UI & every single feature of their software and make your software a shareware.

Hey Jibreil thanks again,
well by conversation do you mean threaded mode? as i have a elf and it can have just a normal or threaded mode. so could you just confirm on it.
so well not sure what caused the rules to get deleted as it is stored in a database so a crash should not effect that. and yes uninstalling the app won't restore the smses to normal inbox. and they will remain (hidden well it seems not for u ;)). and i by default have cf3.5 activated in my phone. also it is not necessarly using 3.5framework functionality but since i developed it in VS2008 i just used the latest framework so minimum requirement is 3.5
well regarding notification i will be working very soon.
and suggestions accepted ;) will try to impliment but do not know how much can i do in upgrading UI not have much knowledge on that. ;)
One thing more do u really think first name/last name contact is really needed? I think contact from messages are good enough was thinking to remove it as contact list can grow large but u receive messages from selected ppl.
Thanks again,
Mohit

Yes, I mean Threaded mode, it's called Conversations on HD2... may be you can take a look at it via some of the YouTube videos. The threaded mode of WinMo has been overhauled to give it the 'iPhone' appeal.

Thanks, I'm sure the suggestions will do a lot more for you functionality and monetary wise. The only app I've heard that doing it's job is Call SMS Blocker but the catch here is that people needed to switch of Threaded mode for it to work.
The first name/last name contact is needed since many like me who sync our contacts via Microsoft Exchange with Google Sync land up seeing our contacts appearing in Last name/First name format on the phone - even though its listed the other way on GMail. Hence I feel that your app is unable to read the contact data when the SMS arrives.
Having said the above, it's best to keep both options open.
Suggestion:
-> For loading the contacts, avoid using the frame that list all the contacts, rather allow the user to select the contact via the default Contacts application. This will also save on app memory and loading time (for people who have more than 800+ contacts)

Hi DuMnUt101,
I just went thru the app again and now it seems that it would be a major rework to impliment it. I suggest that why dont u use message filter, i am sure that ur fwd email notifications must have some common text. u can put that as filter.
Thanks,
I am getting sms updates from Facebook, and each new "thread" is received from a contact that starts with, let's say, 12345. The first one was 12345001, and it increments it by one for each following one.
I was hoping that this app would allow me to archive those sms updates into a folder by filtering any contacts that starts with 12345, but I just found your note that this cannot be done.
I already thought of using message filter, but these numbers are not in the messages.
Any other suggestions?

Hi donfano,
ur problem has been fixed. now u can add custom number formats using Contacts from: option "*CARD #" u can enter the number format and choose the folder to filter those messages.

Changes in 4.2
1. Autorun option stops wm default notification and provides custom notifications for the rules applied. Unchecking Autorun starts wm notification.
2. Contact names are now in order.
3. First Name last name rules now working.
4. One more option added to add wildcard numbers. to match common format numbers.
5. Some minor fixes.

Good news, Mohit! This fixed my problem. Thank you very much!:)
I was just wondering if you could add a horizontal scroll bar in the Add Contact list view, so I can see the rest of the name. I have few people who have the same last name, and I need to see the first name to know which is which. I think it would help also if the names are not listed all in uppercase. Perhaps, the first letter should be in uppercase.
Since you are open for new ideas, I was wondering if you can consider some of mine:
+ the possibility to apply rules on other folders (on Sent Items folder to start with)
+ a feature to move/copy a whole thread (Inbox + Sent items) to a folder
Thanks,

Hi gabfus,
this is a very straight fwd app which helps u to sort ur messages from ur SMS inbox. there is no such option in it which u can use the contact category. well this is the first such request so i never thought abt it and lot of ppl want their smses to be sorted in a different way so i have kept it simple.
well abt displaying of contact names i have just kept 3 options(4th one added in 4.2 release) where u can select ur contact from messages, by first/last or user defined number or name string.
personally i feel contacts from messages is best as u can filter those specific contacts who regularly sms u.any ways i will just keep this in mind for the next release.
Thanks for trying.

I didnt get exactly what u mean by missing entries. do you mean you have entries in ur outlook contacts(not sim) but those are not getting populated in the applications contact list?
Well for your question the answer is yes, in V4.2 there is an option to select wildcard contact ie u can provide the full number, number pattern or a name, but be aware that *CARD # option will apply rule to all the contacts which fulfills the match criteria. If i give match string as 98848, it will filter all the numbers which contains(anywhere) 98848 string and its same with the name.
so use it carefully to avoid unwanted filters.

Hi Mohit,
I ran into a problem, and I hope you can help me to resolve it. The first time I tried the hiding rule, I got the report showing that one message has been hidden. I went to look at the PRIVATE folder, and it was empty. The message was nowhere to be found. I thought back then that I probably did something wrong.
I ran a test last night again, and this time it worked fine. My message got hidden and stored in the PRIVATE folder.
Today:
1. deleted the existing rule
2. started a new rule
3. received 2 messages that got hidden automatically
4. opened the PRIVATE folder from SMS Rules --> it was empty. Then, I noticed there are 2 unread messages in Deleted Items
5. opened the Deleted Items --> my 2 messages were found there (???)
6. closed WM Mail & SMS Rules
7. opened WM Mail
8. opened the Deleted Items --> folder is empty!
9. closed WM Mail

Mohit - It's great that you are working on the first one, as that seems to be the same feature I requested also. Thanks!
I noticed that when your app is intercepting the incoming sms, it takes all the CPU usage and shows the animated busy cursor. Is that normal? Can't it be more transparent?

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting s]
"SMSAvailable"=dword:0
also causes the threading to be off.
hmmm so no one is responsible... :D

We should blame MS for confusing all of us... :D
Thinking....:o
The purpose of stopping the WM default notification is to display your custom notifications for the rules applied. Right?! I was thinking that there must be another registry key to turn off the VM default notification. I am referring to the "Display message on screen" option that can be turned off from Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications > Event: Messaging: New Text message

Hi Donfano,
this suggestion has been implemented in 4.3. But before you test 4.3 plz ensure that you uncheck the Autorun option from4.2, aslo plz confirm if this mod is working.

Mohit - It's great that you are working on the first one, as that seems to be the same feature I requested also. Thanks!
I noticed that when your app is intercepting the incoming sms, it takes all the CPU usage and shows the animated busy cursor. Is that normal? Can't it be more transparent?
The time for busy cursor has been reduced, now you should not see a lot of activity when a message is intercepted.

Mohit - I have more good news than bad news!:o
Let's start with the good ones::)
+ The change with the disabling/enabling of the NW notifications works for me!:)
+ Thanks for the horizontal scrollbar added to the contact list! It's very helpful.
+ The new shortcut to access the private folder is very very helpful. Thank you!
+ There is a good improvement in the time for busy cursor. Thank you!
Now the bad news::(
I'm having the problem to retrieve my hidden sms again. Here are the steps I took:
1. installed 4.3 without any problem - 4.2 got uninstalled without any problem
2. created a rule to hide sms from someone
3. set autorun
4. closed app
5. ran rule using shortcut
6. read notification that says 1 sms got hidden
7. opened private sms shortcut -> password failed
8. closed private sms window
9. opened create rules shortcut
10. went to About > Menu > Personal > Show - I got prompted for new password, and that would explain problem at step 7
11. typed in new password - it did not ask me to enter password again for confirmation!!!
12. closed app
13. received 1 sms to be hidden
14. read notification that says 1 sms got hidden
15. opened private sms shortcut -> very handy!!! :)
16. looked at PRIVATE folder - the folder is empty, and the sms is not found anywhere
17. closed tmail
18. closed private sms
19. received 1 sms to be hidden
20. read notification that says 1 sms got hidden
21. opened private sms shortcut
22. found the hidden sms in Deleted Items folder
23. closed tmail
24. closed private sms
25. received 1 sms to be hidden
26. read notification that says 1 sms got hidden
27. opened private sms - PRIVATE and Deleted Items folders are empty
28. disabled autorun
29. did a soft reset
30. enabled autorun
31. received 1 sms to be hidden
32. read notification that says 1 sms got hidden
33. opened private sms - it was found in the Deleted Items folder
I have a question about the new feature under Tools. You replied to another user that now he can apply rules to other folders also. I do not see how that can be done. I see Archive and Filter folders that can be selected, but then I have the options to click on the Filter button or Archive button. There is no option for me to select, which rules I would like to apply on these selected folders. Perhaps, this is totally different to what I have requested.
My request was to be able to apply rules on Sent Items where I would like to move or copy sms sent to someone. At the moment, rules are applied to Inbox for incoming sms.
Thanks,

Thanks for the details. Seems it happens when a brand new installation is done. One more question when u uninstall does rule.db also gets deleted? all the rules and password are stored there, since you said it asked you for the password again; did you delete the whole folder or it automatically deletes it?

By applying the rules to other folder i meant that it will apply all the rules which were created by the user for inbox. There is no such provision as of now too apply specific rules for different folders. It will filter other folders with same rules as for Inbox and it wont autorun it is manual.

The custom folder rules will not autorun application will keep filtering the inbox only. Filtering custom folder is only manual.

also when i uninstall my old version the rules.db remains there so i don't have to create my rules again.
Since rules.db it is not in cab, it gets generated when app is started so it should not get deleted when uninstalled. dont know why it gets removed from your device.

I uninstalled the app completely to reinstall it from scratch. I did not keep the rule.db file because I wanted to start with a clean install. I followed similar steps as I did last time, and this time I seem to get a consistent result as follows:
1. the rule intercepts the sms to be hidden
2. the rule reports the sms is hidden
3. opening the private sms shows the sms is stored in the Deleted Items folder instead of the PRIVATE folder
4. reopening the private sms shows the sms is neither in these two folders.
The behaviour I am seeing makes me think of how the message gets destroyed in the Mission Impossible movies:p... "This message will be destroyed (instead of stating the number of seconds) after you close this app":D

Can you auto-reply sms to certain contacts with this?
Example: You get into a ONS, other person steals your number and keeps texting you. You want her/him/it to go away but the person is persistant. Is it possible to then have it either block, or autoreply to every sms from said person?
Would be awesome.

Mohit - You'll never believe that the hiding rule works fine now with the thread mode on. What did I do? Well, I am not sure!
After trying to figure out what is going on, I decided to simply leave the thread mode off to make sure I don't lose my private sms. Yesterday, I ran more tests because I was wondering what could happen if I turn the thread mode back on now that I already have some sms in my PRIVATE folder. Will the new sms still be stored in Deleted Items and will I lose the ones in the PRIVATE folder? I ran a test, and the new sms got stored in the PRIVATE folder, and no sms was lost.
I thought then if the problem occurs if the PRIVATE folder is empty. I then emptied the PRIVATE folder, but the problem did not occur.... It seems to me that the resolution would be to turn off the thread mode the first time using the hiding rules, and then turn the thread mode back on. Let's leave it to this! I have spent more than enough time on it, and I was the only one who was having the "problem"

well # means hidden messages. to restore those open CreateRules GUI go to about tab-> menu -> personal -> show it will ask you to set a password if you havnt
when that is done it will open a new frame where it will show two buttons one will be showe private folder click that and all the hidden messages will be present in the PRIVATE folder of messaging application.
then later on you can use the privateSMS shortcut for the same thing.
Hope u get it :D

Hello,
when I used RuleSMS v.4.1 I created subfolder "Test1" in "Private" This folder was hide/unhide together with "Private". Unfortunately, after update RuleSMS to v.4.3 this feature don't work and subfolder "Test1" was lost after hide/unhide.
May be You can add in your program support more then one "private" folders?

Thanks astrolabio,
i hope you have downloaded v4.3, in that version u have an option in CreateRules program tools tab to run the rules in any selected folders and you have to do this manually if you want to apply rules to your other folders just as in your case.
(This wont run automatically)
Just select the sent folder in Filter folder dropdown and then click filter button, ALL the rules will be applied to your sent folder including hidden rule.
Thanks

minor updates
v4.3a
Keep all 3exes under a single folder(SMSRules) under programs Programs
Added a slider control in PrivateSMS application to fetch number of private smses it should display. Keeping it low will display the last one and maximum will show all.
This was done incase you have alot of Private SMS it used to take time to show them, this option reduces the time by limiting the number of smses you want to see

To answer your problem, applying rules does take time and it can sometimes show temporarily in the HTC messaging app. still trying to solve it.

Are you using threaded mode SMS? and what is your devices spec?
Just confirm the steps
1. u create a new rule in Contacts Rule tab to "HIDE" messages from X, this option should disable the folder list so that u r not able to select any destination folder it will save the hidden message rule under a virtual folder #.
2. verify the rule in existing rule tab. this rule should be under # folder
wait for a private message or manually run rules to hide your existing messages in inbox.
Notification should popup letting u know how many messages were processed under different rules(did u get that notification?)
Once every thing is done go to PrivateSMS app and provide the password which u have set up through the CreateRules GUI.
This should create a new folder named "PRIVATE" in tmails folder and all the messages should be present there.

Ok so there is some thing wrong maybe a bug!
well the notification you got, did it mentioned the number of messages it HID. This will let you know how many messages were processed.
Ok so we can test one more thing to figure out if it is a bug.
Open CreateRules first tab, ContactRules goto menu click Add Folder give some random folder name and check thru sms app if that folder has been created if there was no error....
and yes one more thing if you close the PrivateSMS or CreateGUI it will hide the PRIVATE folder again so you need to keep these apps open in case you closed them before opening the private folder.

well the notification you got, did it mentioned the number of messages it HID.
When i run the "run rules" manually, i got the notification message "HID 1"...
I have tried to create a dummy folder. but it is not avilable in the HTC SMS application. i think this is the problem. rules are procession the filers and i m not seeing the PRIVATE folder and hence due to this messages are getting lost.

Hmm no one reported this kind of problem before....
Ok last step to confirm if it is a bug.
1. Can u create folders manually in your HTC SMS app (not SMSRules)
2. When u created the folder from SMSRules did it errored? if not, was it shown in the folder list of smsrules?
3. open tmail(HTC sms) menu->tools->manage folders-> this should show all the folder present in the SMS client. is the dummy folder there?
4. Are you able to add new folder in it without using smsrules?

are you asking me to open tmail.exe and then go to manage folders etc.
If this is the case then tmail.exe is not having sms account for me. It has all my email accounts. i can see a tmailsms.exe in the same folder which on run gives me the SMS interface.

Few Ques....
1. Is this application will start automatically working after restart? or i have to start some utility after each restart to monitor the incoming messages.
2. If this is working in background and moving message to PRIVATE folder then will i get some sort of notification??

It should be nice to have that...
Imagine that you have IMAP with Google Mail (as I do). Create a rule that moves or copies all my SMS-messages to a specified folder, named "SMS IN" and "SMS OUT". My IMAP syncs with Google and ALL MY SMS-MESSAGES are available in Gmail (search, order, store,... them)!

yes it was working fine. two sugesstions:
1. SMS notification is working but it pops up a window giving information about how many rules are processed. It clearly indicates a third person that something is being hiding. Cant we do just notifaction in the upper task bar (already coming) and no popup window.
2. How can i can avoid saving message in SENT folder for a contact (which is hiddedn for incoming)
3. Can you change the name from SMSRULES, PRIVATESMS etc to something else. It indicates that something is running in background.

Cant we do just notifaction in the upper task bar (already coming) and no popup window.I was about to post this suggestion today, so I'm joining my request with yours. I sometimes get 3 or 4 messages to be hidden, so I get 4 popups that I need to close one by one. I would suggest to allow users to click on the icon from the taskbar to find out the accumulated report.
2. How can i can avoid saving message in SENT folder for a contact (which is hiddedn for incoming)I would say you will need to apply the same rule to your Sent folder under Tools. I haven't tried it yet, but I will let Mohit do the talk :)
3. Can you change the name from SMSRULES, PRIVATESMS etc to something else. It indicates that something is running in background.I am not sure what you mean here, but once again I will let Mohit answer this one.

for sms sent message filtering we cant do it automatically, at least not without anything running at background. Also as donfano said u may use the new tools, to filter ur other folders.
Can you change the name from SMSRULES, PRIVATESMS etc to something else. It indicates that something is running in background.
Hmm as i have said there are no background app running all the time. they will just run when an sms arrives. also If you want to change the app name in programs u can rename the shortcuts. Plz do not rename the app exes.

I'm just throwing my idea here for you and hoping it could be a hint to find a solution. As far as I'm concerned, I would like to hide the incoming sms from X and the ones I sent to X. Your app already takes care of the incoming sms, but not the outgoing ones. I was wondering if you could "simply" triggers your app to apply a rule on Sent folder after an sms is sent. Actually, I find a reference that might help you to achieve this at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vssmartdevicesvbcs/thread/5fcc4406-4d6b-4368-ace1-f54cb6023ac0/

well the app is not so smooth, even if u get a private sms u will see it in your inbox for a short period of time.
and that notification i did because i myself had to check my folders every time to see if i got any filtered smses, well i will make it an optional one next time.
and about folder name, i suppose that shudn't be a problem as that will be visible only if you want it to be, same as your netbanking, you provide password chk your $$ and close it right.. u dont keep it open... same here open ur "PRIVATE" folder chk texts and close... no signs left if there is no one spying around...

1. Made custom notification optional, you can now select, to have or not to have a notification displayed when a sms is filtered. You can choose it from Createrules GUI menu.
2. If you have opted to be notified it will display only one notification for all the sms you receive and will have two buttons in notification window, one to close the notification and other to refresh

I don't want to sound difficult, but I was wondering if you can add a 3rd option for the notify options, an option to see an icon on the task bar only when a rule has been applied (i.e. no icon if no rule was applied). That is, I would like to see the notify icon on the task bar and be able to click on it to open the notification window and see which rules have been applied. Does that make any sense to you?

Thanks donfano that shoudn't be a big deal. So u mean that it shoud not pop up for a new rule and notification should be displayed only if any of the rule was applied... i think we can skip the delete rules notification also..

Yes, that would be the case when the notify is turned on. When the the notify is turned off, it would be nice to have the choices between the current behavior and having an icon on the task bar to indicate that a rule was applied. This icon can be then tapped on to display the pop up.
In other words, I was thinking about the following logic:
intercept incoming sms
run rules
if notify option turned on
show popup
else if task bar icon option turned on
place icon on task bar
[...]
when tap event trapped on task bar icon
show popup
[...]
I hope my attempt to do pseudo-code above makes any sense to you:D. Just trying to help!

So, I honestly am not posting this to diss on your app, I think it's a pretty sweet app and I actually would have a use for it... BUT ..
Disclaimer : This may not apply to everyone, phones can and likely do differentiate, but it definitely applies to my stock at&t tilt2
... anyway, on to the bad news ..
Beware : This app uses the MessageInterceptor APIs from PocketOutlook which is very buggy. Actually, the worse of it is that it will cause tmail (pocket outlook) to completely freeze if you receive messages quickly back to back - or for other "stress" reasons - yes this happens with this specific app.
Here is a post on that:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/netfxcompact/thread/04391fe4-ff24-4ec4-b459-a455840c75d4/
so, if you've been experiencing the messaging application (pocket outlook) sometimes freezing on you, well, you might want to uninstall this - it was happening to me ;)
ps: This *ONLY* applies if you are using this app using the "Auto" mode, if you aren't, then you're safe :)
ps2- Uninstalling this app doesn't seem to cleanup the registry location that MessageInteceptor uses and the hangs will remain, so you might want to, after uninstall, clean those up yourself by deleting the key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Rules\SMSRules and everything under it
again, sorry for being negative, but sometimes ignorance just isn't bliss :D

I tried this, but it does not seem to work.
I created a rule that moves messages from contact A to a folder, but in the "Sent Items"-folder, the messages are not FROM contact A, but from myself...
No messages where filtered. And creating a rule that filters messages from me, would filter them all in my "Sent Items"...

U might have noticed your "Warning" now at the first post:)
New Delay Mode
Well i thought about this today and i was thinking maybe i can create a new "Delay Mode" that will autorun (yes using interceptor) and remove the interceptor when a message arrives and will wait in background for few "Minutes" and then filter the messages and again create an interceptor on exit.
So this should solve two problems.
1. Will remain "autorun" but a delayed one.
2. Only once interceptor will run for that time even if several messages arrive in that period.
How about that!!!

Sounds nice, but maybe you can create a "scheduled Autorun"... It should be nice when I could run the rules for example at midnight. All my messages are filtered as it should be and those from the last day are still in my Inbox.
It also solves the above you mentioned and also saves batterypower...
I also tried again filtering the "Sent Items", but it still does not work. I would like to filter all messages between me and one contact and store them in one folder... Maybe this is a suggestion too? :)

so u did this after installing the new exe right?
hmm one more info the logic behind filtering the sent messages works like, if you have a message addressed to more than one recipient then while filtering the message it will take the very first contact name from the list maybe the other messages which didn't got filtered are like this!!! what i mean is that the first contact in those messages has not got a rule defined.
could you please check that also.

Mohit - I know you want to resolve everything, but I am just wondering how many of us have experienced the problem in question. I haven't! So if this "problem" is not really a problem for me, why would I want to change the current behaviour? I prefer the autorun to apply rules as I am receiving sms, and I wouldn't mind to do a soft reset of my device once a year if the problem occurs.:D

so u did this after installing the new exe right?
hmm one more info the logic behind filtering the sent messages works like, if you have a message addressed to more than one recipient then while filtering the message it will take the very first contact name from the list maybe the other messages which didn't got filtered are like this!!! what i mean is that the first contact in those messages has not got a rule defined.
could you please check that also.
All messages that are still there are sent to only one contact... Normally the rule should work.
I moved them now manually and will track the new messages I sent. I'll check if those are moves correclty. Keep you posted!

If you want something more, it should be nice that the messages from the "Sent items" can also be defined by a rule. Not only with the "Tools" trick :-)
I just sent a message, ran the filter on my "Sent items", but the messages still rest there...
Strange...

ok lez try this once.
1. open createrules gui
2. select *card# option from "contact from:" dropdown
3. enter the name(either first or last) of the receipent to whom you just sent the message
4. verify the rule in existing rule tab
run the rules from tool tab on sent messages.
i suppose you must have replaced the smsrules exe that i gave u earlier!!

there seems to be alot of confusion due to new shortcut. as you might have noticed there are three apps.
Main is Createrules from there you can create rules, filter, archive and much more. Inside the app there is a about tab go there and then click menu -> personal -> show.
if it is your first login it will ask you for a password. set it there and then u can access ur private sms..
also plz read FAQs for more info

ok now not giving you any fix just a exe which will log the process... it will generate sam.txt in the same dir as the smsrule
run it same way what u did earlier and mail me that txt file
@ my gmail id i will PM u that in case u dont have it
or pm the contents of the file once you are done
Edit: sorry if it errored out... anyways sorry to bother you again please take this one... same name but replaced the fault
EDIT2: Final fix, replace the exe and check if it works. If it is working test for other rules also... I am in office so cant test on my device:D

A scheduled run is a good idea! It can be useful for archiving those less important sms at later time.
About the delayed one, you might as well give the option to the user to toggle it. Of course, you can put a warning for those (like me) who want to disable it. That way everyone can be happy!:p
I believe you will also work on implementing the possibility to apply rules against Sent Items. I've been waiting for this for awhile!
Thank you also for considering the notification's behaviour!:)
Since you are really looking for something to do this weekend, I would suggest revamping the app's UI to make it to look cool.

Thanks guy!
I replaced the exe with you latest SMSRulesFix and....
THAT WAS IT!
:-)
My "Sent items" are filtered as it should be!
Great job!
If there can be a scheduled run for "Inbox" and "Sent Items" and maby also for your SMSBackup, then I can sync my conversations on a daily basis with my Gmail :-)
I'll find some more ideas to make nice apps :-)

i can't really find the solution.
i'm looking for a programm (this one?) that does:
- monitor for incoming text messages --> auto move to folder with password
- optionally (not a must) --> select from/to wich contacts
- also send items to the hidden folder
- doesnt have to be threaded compatible
i can't really figure out if this program does it, i tested a few things but i can't get it working.
Does this program meet the requirements ? if so, how to?
mayb putting it more clearly in the #1 post

well i've read your first post (offcourse)
and the auto part doesnt work for me. when i do it manual, it all works.
I have a HTC Touch HD with WM6.5 (kwbr 3.2.4)
things i stumble upon:
- i have to push the button on the bottom left about 5/6 times before the menu opens.
- if i chose exit, then my phone just hangs
- when i disable autorun in that menu, the app hangs(softreset)
- when i have the autorun enabled and a rule to move the messages from a person. The phone doesnt vibrate anymore (don't know about sound because i always have vibrate), the message isn't moved in any way. When i run RunRules, then the messages are being moved.
- i also noticed that some settings where changed for th "new textmessage" in wm options. The flash light is automaticly disabled and the display message is enabled(that last one is because i selected notifiy in your program)
