Has anyone been able to display the multimedia dock screen without the dock. I know you can display the car home screen but it would be nice to be able to display the multimedia dock screen without having to pay the 30 for the dock.
I assume it could be as simple as someone creating an app that just executes that application, no?

Both docks can be triggered by magnets. That's what you're paying $30 for when you get the docks.
Paul Miller from Engadget made his own "dock" with just a piece of cardboard and some ball magnets..

Ya I saw that, the magnets are just another form of input. Its the same as clicking an icon, it executes a piece of code to display that screen. There has to be a way to see what code is being executed when the magnets are used.

That is true, however according to Paul, the multimedia screen is not an app that is launched. Only the car mode has a true "app".

Look up Dockrunner in the market and I think you will find what you are looking for.

Or you can just use Bedside, which has more features as the Multimedia Dock App, or maybe even more, except for weather (yet)... and I have had that app in the market since january.
It now works for the Droid and supports the Dock, and turns off notifications while its opened and lets you control all that stuff, check it out

Yeah it works pretty well, but I got up this morning and could not get it out of the program and landscape even after I shut down the app. I had to just restart the phone to get it back to normal. Other than that though.
crackertc - I took a look at it and I'm thinking that I might just have to try that out. Good job.

You have to open the app drawer and run dockrunner again to take it out of multimedia dock mode, as it says in the directions.

I read somewhere they were going to ship the phone with the dock, like as an included accessory when you purchased the phone from Verizon. Sadly.....Big Red must have seen a way to make a buck and done away with those plans just in time for launch date!
