My bad, I haven't really been messing with hero because it used to be so slow.
I got confused because I saw Zen post 2 diff. reso's on a diff hero build.
Anyways, thanks.

That is a known issue with hero. You will get that error, but they are sending.
This is the fastest hero build I've used too. Maps and camera just dont want to get their icons moved though.

I'm still new at this android on the Vogue, I'm so confused. Can someone give me a link to what specific files I need for this to work. The ones I have work but it is dog slow, 20-30 seconds to toggle between apps.
Is there an advantage to running an ext2 partition? Can some point me to where I need to go to get info on this. Creating the partition is no problem but where do I go from there?

Tell you the truth Zen, I am having the same issues as this guy right now with my Hero startup.txt. I know my file is correct because it works with previous Hero builds but not this one, it keeps looping at the splash screen. Here are the files I am using at the moment.

-rootfs-10/23/09
-Initrd-08/01/09
-Haret
-Conf(Folder)

Now I have tried different variations with the basefiles from 10/09/09 but still no go.

correct in looking toward the jester blur build. the animations are inside system/framework/framework-res.apk
open the framework-res.apk with an archive manager (don't extract) and move to res/anim inside the archive. replace those files inside res/anim with the ones that are in jesterblur's res/anim make sure you replace exactly whats there and all the file names are the same. it's pretty much drag and drop into the archive. nothing else needs to be done once you drop the other files in. just close the archive manager and push the new framework-res.apk to your build.

IMHO SD cards are not the ideal place to keep an OS and I strongly suspect that the data gets corrupted on a regular basis. The FAT32 partition seems to have the most problems... at one point I had to reformat my card several times and could only get it to work by formatting in Vista. Point being, if it doesn't work the first time, try try again, and try a reformat too. Installing this build using the ext2 partition method, it took me 3 times before I could get a functional installation. However, I'm happy we use the SD card rather than flashing a ROM every time.
Now that I have it up and running, AWESOME! This build is speedy and gorgeous. Plenty of useful apps :D I have it installed on an ext2 partition with no compcache and a 192MB (overkill, I know) linux swap partition. I know my Kaiser is unsupported so if any Kaiser owners have questions about this build go start a thread in the Kaiser forum please. Thanks again guys!

are you running from ext2 partition? I wasn't and i thought it was a little too slow but after I did the partition it is completely usable. Just about as fast as WM6.5 on a given day. I strongly recommend trying running from a partition if you haven't already.

now your serious right?! when i use this i sometimes think that its slow (cause it kinda is) but its faster than any other Hero build i've used. so if i run it from ext2 partition this build will basicly run similarly as smooth as a wm6.5 ROM? Imma gonna give it a shot and keep ya posted.

Bluetooth does not work with any Android build. I think GPS should work with Hero builds though....

I was able to get bluetooth working on a cupcake ion build before by going into Wireless Settings -> Bluetooth and turning it on within the menu instead of using the option one level up. I agree that GPS should work so not sure why it doesn't for me.

now your serious right?! when i use this i sometimes think that its slow (cause it kinda is) but its faster than any other Hero build i've used. so if i run it from ext2 partition this build will basicly run similarly as smooth as a wm6.5 ROM? Imma gonna give it a shot and keep ya posted.
LETS HOPE IT WORKS
Indeed. I was at the point of not being able to use hero on a regular basis because it would come to a crawl with certain applications, but now running from the partition makes it fully functional for me, so much that I wish it was just a rom on my phone so i could always be on hero.

fast like last donut 1.6 ? or for example when you press call button you have to wait 3~5 seconds to appear the last calls list ?

Very close to last donut when sense ui is enabled, if you disable sense ui it is as fast as donut. Haven't taken note, but i'd gues 1 or 2 seconds absolute MAX wait time for dialer

Fast like usable compared to previous hero builds. Does not run like Donut or Ion. But its much closer and better.

hmm...i'm sure there's a guide somewhere but here's what i did step-by-step (note: this is probably outdated now with the new rootfs, etc. but this works great for me).
1. Boot a decent distro of linux
2. Mount your SD card
3. Add a 200mb ext2 partition
4. Download & extract recoverfiles2.2.rar from vogue-android site
5. Copy all of the files from the folder recoverfiles2.2 to the root of SD card (note: overwrites rootfs.img, initrd.gz, and adds recover.img)
6. Boot haret.exe from WM
7.PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to the text on the screen, it will prompt for the recovery installation something or other, and you MUST press a key to proceed with recovery. The time for this prompt is short, so keep close attention.
8. It will load the recovery.img, backup your old data.img under sd/systembackup (or something like that), create a new data.img, then proceed with boot as if it were your first time installing android (the process took up to 10 min for me, so don't panic).
9. Once android is all loaded and what not, you can explore to your sd card and find the systembackup folder with the data.img (the filename will be "date backed up".img, ie: 11-16-2009.img)
10. Rename this to data.img, then copy it back to the root of SD to overwrite the new one. You will now have all your progs, contacts, etc. back.
These steps worked perfectly for me, so if something goes wrong I don't know what to tell you because I'm not so savvy with the android scene :/. If your phone screws up, i'm not liable (i think i have to say that?). Hope this works out for you!

I'm sure it could be bigger, but, correct me if i'm wrong, i think the partition is for system processes, etc., and the rest of the SD is still used for data storage. so i don't think it would help any to enlarge the partition size

I've gotten a little better at deleting widgets, but it takes some practice. I make a small continuous circle rather than keeping the pointer completely still, and when the vibration feedback kicks in I start dragging. Kind of annoying, but I'm getting better at it and it's not like I'm constantly deleting widgets anyways, it was just for the initial setup.
Maybe this is somehow related to resolution and the density of the touchscreen? Not really sure...

i take a different approach, first thing i do is go to settings/personalize/scenes and change to the clean slate which only has 5 widgets on the center window , i use my thumb and try and get as much of it pressed onto the widget i want to remove ( keeping in mind that if i slighty raise my finger the widget will open 0 if it doesnt work after a couple of goes i switch windows then go back and almost everytime after switching windows it seems to work , what we need to find out is where the widget information is kept and remove it from the rom b4 we run it on our phones

I was able to remove the clock widget by
Pressing and holding the clock widget
As soon as it vibrates
Swipe the clock down
Its tricky and it must be done with precision timing.

Yeah but now I want NAV :(
I was hacking away at the SDK, backporting enough features to get NAV to start up (finally), but I think I would end up hitting a wall once I got to TTS.
Most of the things I backported were related to density/rendering, unsurprisingly.

It's the first ROM I flashed so I have nothing to compare it to--but everything is working, it's pretty quick, and it's pretty. It's really nice having a mobile OS that has drivers for all of your hardware (*cough*GPU*cough*). YouTube was a whole new experience.
My biggest problem? The buttons config is all goofy. Power to menu, End to power, no "back" button.. etc.

you could always use the old Zimage with the old keymap, the camera button doesnt really do anything now since they got rid of the blue keyboard, and then vol up becomes back and vol down becomes menu, you would have to turn volume up through the menu though since cam button plus vol rocker is volume

On the home screen press menu then scenes then chose clean slate. That should clear all the widgets and give you a "clean slate" to work with.

It keeps a clock and four icons. The key is to slowly rotate your finger in like a small circle when you hold, and then drag right after you feel the vibrate. Takes some practice but once you get the hang of it its fairly easy.

Do you mean the ext2 partition? It's fairly easy if you have linux. I used Paragon Partition Manager and it ended up erasing my RAID drives (I followed all the steps), so I just got linux and it worked like a charm :)
But the part im stuck in is how to boot haret from the ext2 partition, or is it that you can only save apps on the ext2?

are you running the dzo's nand rom?
No im not. But if your referring to the rootfs i am using, i have tried the rootfs with the basefile package from http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android although i see it was just moved today. Ill try the files that have been moved to sourceforge after i get done typing this and post my results, but they look like they are the same, just moved.
My goal was, if i was happy with this build (i understand that some people are having problems with text messages) i was going to move on to dzos nand rom next, as i no longer use wm anyway. That is why i was using that rootfs. I was mostly just trying to get as close to what i would need for dzos rom so i could be sure i didn't have any trouble before i go flashing.. But maybe that was what was causing my trouble, but as i said, ive tried (your?) basefiles also without any differences. Am i not supposed to be using that sprint hero data img when i use this build (first time on a hero build)?
I have been on a rogers build and am fairly happy with it as far as daily use, i don't use android (or my phone for that matter) as any sort of business tool, so I am generally happy about how far android ports have come (as far as usability goes) for just the average geek using it for mostly phone and text. But i wanted to try out dzos rom because it would be nice not to have to reboot into wm first every time i have to restart my phone (also i am hoping for a bit of speed increse).
Is there a way that i can use some program to dump what my terminal says to my computer? im using an ubuntu box, but i also have a xp one i could use.. The text is too small and goes by too fast to really see or to accurately retype what is going on. I could do something like that if anyone is willing to look at what it says or if you even think that it might show what my problem could be. Apparently everyone is sure that the splash screen infinite cycle is a resolution problem, but changing it hasn't done anything for me.
Thanks for all your work, and for taking the time to help.. Sorry i just gave you a novel to read (i have a bad habit of doing that). Its just that short posts like "it don't work!" I find does not help anyone (especially the poster).

Thanks in advance

Ok, i got this to run, finally, using all the base files from zen-hero-090809.zip
When i try to use the base files from http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android (now mediafire) it tells me it cant find the system.img
I got it to work with the rootfs from zen-hero-090809.zip (ive also used the rest of those files from that zip) but either way i do it, it doesnt stay running very long or very well (freezes, reboots, and is generally slow)
Am i supposed to have my card partitioned when using the base files from basefiles-20091116.zip? is that why it is not finding my system.img?
Edit: i partitioned my card, and then thought, hmm, maybe i should be keeping all these basefiles in the android folder instead of the root like i had been doing with other builds.. BINGO!!
Now i feel kind of stupid..
Also, with my posts from a few days ago, i must have dorked up my default.txt somehow, because after i used the one included in zen-hero-090809 it booted ok.. I did notice that it didnt have an lcd density setting, is that ok? doesnt seem to be causing me any problems that i can tell, but obviously, what do i know?

Someone may want to correct me on this, but i read in a post that 256MB for two ext2 partitions, and the rest fat32, it also said to do fat32 at the beginning and put the two ext2s at the end.. Its what i did, and all seems well..
Zen (or whoever else i guess): i was just wondering about the text message not delivered problems with this new hero build, is it anything that is going to be fixed, (im not implying i want you to do it or anything pushy, you just know more than I.) because it seems to be the only reason i might wait to try doing this whole flashing to nand thing, but if it looks like its something that might be resolved in the next hero build or something, then ill just wait. but if its something that were going to be stuck with for a while, then ill either flash it, or decide to go back to an ion build (but i am liking this sense hero build).
Is there maybe a temporary work around for the text message bug? maybe just a way to get it to not pop up a notification on my top bar everytime?

Can somebody with a correct default.txt show me what it has. because im confused on how to set it up. I have the sprint htc touch.
I know it is cdma so are there any additional things i need to put into the default.txt for data and all that good stuff to work?

I have some custom ringtones assigned to different people, however when the calls come in, caller ID recognizes them but I just get generic beeping instead of the custom ring tones. Anything I'm missing in configuration?

ok, ive used a few android builds before, but this is the first hero build ive used..
im on a sprint vogue
using the base files from http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android
im using the rootfs from http://it029000.massey.ac.nz/vogue/files/?C=M;O=D
the sprint hero data file from android-dmhz's Shared Files on MediaFire
my default.txt is:
set RAMSIZE 0x08000000
set MTYPE 1667
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set cmdline "ppp.username= ppp.password= mddi.width=320 mddi.height=480 lcd.density=160 msm_sdcc.msmsdcc_fmax=32000000 pm.sleep_mode=0 board-htcvogue.panel_type=3 no_console_suspend"
boot
I do not have my card partitioned.
im getting to the splash screens and they are just cycling over and over.. hero, htc, hero, htc... Ive tried using both the themed and standard builds from this thread, both with the same results.
Any ideas where ive gone wrong?

don't use the sprint hero data.img and stick with the rootfs.img from vogue-android which is now at sourceforge.

i also used the default from zen-hero-090809 and the rest of my files are the base from sourceforge. didnt try that default. didnt want to break what was fixed. If you use it i would suggest adding in lcd.density=160 although i believe i read somewhere it will default to that, i never put it in and it seems fine. Here, ill try and see if anything blows up....... Works Fine.
Make sure you put these base files in the android folder like they are zipped.

Instead of using stock SMS app, use something like Handcent and turn off delivery reports.

Actually, use ADB (not ADB2) drivers that are on DZO's website, which have worked for me seamlessly. I assume that you know how to install drivers, or drop a line, and I will walk you through on how to install them on Windows.

The downloads link on this page (http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/androidhtc/wiki/WikiStart)seems to only have the files to flash android.

This build is for the sdcard. It doesn't fit on nand. If you need basic android help there are other threads for that. Plus this is an older release. The new 1.4 is faster so use that.
