NEWS
Hey guys, lot of things happened here is a short summary:
-i've sold my Diamond
-yozgatg released this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623048 (awesome job, i wish i had my diamond...)
-New version of Android: XDAndroid
-This thread won't be followed and updated by me from now on. sry T.T

If you still want to update your diamond, they have plenty of threads about it in Raphael or Blackstone sections which are the same builds with different startup.txt

So, I hope you had a good time with my crappy english writing, I wish you all have soon enough a stable every day use Android on Diamond :)

====================THIS THREAD IS MERELY A READY TO USE PACKAGE=========================
WIKI FOR ANDROID ECLAIR (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=RaphaelEclair)
http://glemsom.anapnea.net/android/htc-msm-android/

Read this also as it seems to answer, comment everything in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5308744&postcount=121

================================================== ===============================================

you can grab the build of 04 jan 2010 in my 4shared folder: techunter.4shared.com (http://techunter.4shared.com)

================================================== ===============================================

Now a little explanation on how I proceeded:

3ways of doing it:

I/ Compile it yourself
-> not enough time didn't even tried but you can try here (http://gitorious.org/linux-on-qualcomm-s-msm/linux-msm/commits/htc-msm-2.6.27)

II/ Download latest image
The packs you can have from sites are generally a stable android release. All the zImage and modules on msm-htc-android sites are all development packs, so choose wisely. Last update doesn't mean best update!
Prerequisite: create a dir name (for example) eclair_fs.
You can also put a Light Rom to make it boot faster or THIS ONE from yozgatg (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623048)

a)===================
get the build package here:
Quoting this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=601751) (again its the main post for the Raphael/Blackstone/DIamond):
24.01.10 NEW BUILD STRIPPED
http://htcandroid.xland.cz/XDANDROID.24.01.10.7z
This build is completely stripped and only contains the crucial core files to run Android. All apps are within AndroidApps, so copy over the ones you need. Please read changelog for more details.

extract all in eclair_fs/ on your hard drive

b)===================
(Optional if your package in a) already has the zImage) get the zImage here: http://zimages.googlecode.com/svn/autobuild_system/htc-msm-android/ (autobuild files, thx for posting this!)
you should have something like zImage-modules-DATE_VER.tar
--go to eclair_fs/ and delete the modules-2.6.27-00330-f485082e.tar (name differ with version) and the "zImage" files.
--untar (with winrar or whatever) in your eclair_fs/ the two files.
--rename the zImage.00000000 (figures as the build date) in "zImage" (without quotes).
-- leave the modules-2.6.27-00710-g485083e.tar you have just extracted with the same name.

c)===================
go to eclair_fs/startup-configs and make sure you have a DIAM100.txt (or whatever DIAMx00 you have, retrieve DIAMx00.txt).
*if YES then delete eclair_fs/startup.txt and copy+rename the eclair_fs/startup-configs/DIAM100.txt to eclair_fs/startup.txt.
*if NO then google another package (the one from connect-utb should have one).

d)===================
optional: make your changes in startup.txt

e)===================
delete the data.img file if you have one (when you make changes in your zImage or system.sqsh you have to delete data.img).

f)===================
now your eclair_fs should look like this:
http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/2386/capturesdp.jpg

g)===================
upload at your formatted Internal storage on your diamond TO THE ROOT (without your subfolder eclair_fs)

h)===================
Some bugs are yet to be resolved so to make sure you won't have to reboot again, make sure under Windows Mobile you have:
-disabled the PinCode
-Enabled the GPRS Connection (it works for me without this step but sometime not)
-disabled the airplane mode (if you activated the GPRS you should't be in this mode ^^
-disable whatever special state you put your phone in.

i)===================
run /InternalStorage/Haret.exe

Format your internal storage once in fat32, you don't need to format it every time you change between build.

III/ Get custom build from Raphael or Blackstone etc...
there : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=601751
enjoy

FILE: 4shared.com (http://www.4shared.com/file/189205730/d197fe4a/eclair_fs_20100105.html) (sry, the guy uploaded a new build fixing a bit the mic so I updated mine)

I uploaded different startup.txt (and Diam200.txt from jfran)

================================================== ================================================== ==================
Useful info from other users

BE AWARE, that in the newest release of XDANDROID from 24.01.2010, there are minimum of apps installed, to save memory, but when GOOGLE TALK is not installed, then DOWNLOADING apps from MARKET won't work.

WORKAROUND: put 3 googletalk (TalkProvider.apk Talk.apk gtalkservice.apk) files from AndroidApps\Core in AndroidApps

How can we add ringtones as its silent by default?sOrry for re-editing....

To add ringtones you need to add files to the media folder [media\audio\ringtones] folder as .ogg

how to access the phone from pc?
reboot back in winmo either by hitting the soft reset key or holding down the hang up key and powering off.

-If you have a problem with the PINCode being always wrong:
Go into WinMo and disable it.

-If you need your APN Profil:
check on your operator's website in the android page like for HTC Magic. exemple for SFR you can get the settings from sfr.fr under "My account" webpage of via their forum.

-Microphone too low?
known issue, sry.

-My version is too unstable?
download the package from Connect UTB and copy it directly into your storage card. Its the latest stable. The one I posted here is the latest dev.

- OMG where my battery went??
YES battery is the most important issue for now ^^

-Something go badly wrong, like messed up volume button or whatever
HARD RESET :) (assuming you did saved your contacts what so ever. I highly recommend saving your contacts by Gmail Exchange server (m.google.com) or with MS MyPhone.

I remembered someone asking about getting their outlook contacts onto their device, and noticed that in Contacts there is the option to import/export, so all you need to do is export contacts from Outlook and save the file to your root folder then open contacts in Android and import the csv file.

I came across the ability to program what function the end key can perform the options were along the lines -
1. close program
2. home page
3. close program and home page
4. do nothing

however, I cant seem to find the option and I am not sure if it was an application I was using or a setting function??? Anyone came across this?
Update The setting is in the Spare Parts App :)

yes, it works...you just have to change the startup file acording to your device.

There is already a startup file for the diamond. This works very well :D
Dont expect it to be a complete replacement for windows just yet. GPS and Camera do not work but thats minor.:p

Comments:
Best try for yourself. I found it to be a little annoying to use (much like most Linux machines i've used before). It sometimes seems a little laggy, and I couldnt work out how to turn my phone off since the power button just brings up a menu. Also my phone kept locking and I had to fiddle to get it unlocked again.

I'm not exactly sure how it runs on the phone. If it runs on top of my current rom then my experiences could be down to lack of RAM. When I did a soft reset my Windows ROM booted up and I've been using that until I can get a chance to play again.

Also, I am on O2 UK. I must need to get my 3G settings from somewhere because I couldnt get on the internet under linux.

I will definately be playing some more and will see about using it as a propper phone OS, once I get my contacts on my sim, and I get WWW working. It's very good IMO :)

It works god but it needs more work. there are problems to get GPRS to work

One good thing is that after a reboot it boots on WM, so you could try android and have your Windows back after a reboot =)

Can't get SMS to work, tried ATcommander.

dieselboy : To turn off the phone, just hold the End button.

is there any way to include htc sense in the android?

vulture
19th November 2009, 02:15 PM
It doesn't boot with me.
I use a custom WM6.1 ROM (AZTOR WWE).
I copied all files and updates to the internal storage.
When I start HaRET from the explorer it shows a progressbar saying:
HaRET: Booting Linux ...
on the bottom of my screen is a second titlebar (from Windows) that shows me a Windows Start button, the text 'HaRET Version...' , a keyboard and all the icons I have in my titlebar (reception, volume, 3G icon...)

The progressbar doesn't get past (about) 95% and then everything freezes.

Anyone any idea? Do I need to stop TouchFlo or something?

So this is now working in the sense that I can make a call and the microphone and ear piece now work?

I tried Android a few months ago and the only benefit I could see was that it ran and loaded but none of the phone hadrware was usable or a bitch to get gprs working.

So far I've figured out that the End Key is the power button; it puts it to sleep (which takes a while to wake up from).
The power button is Home or whatever it's called on Android; it takes you to the desktop.
Home key is menu button and is used to unlock, you can wake the phone up with either power button or menu button but then menu to unlock, sometimes you have to press it a couple of times.
Call button still seems to be call; it brings up the call log from the desktop.

I'm liking what I've seen so far; it's very intuitive. I haven't got 3G internet working though :-(.

The simple bitmap ones work but Opengl ones just make the phone crash.
I can't wait to see this on a phone with the Tegra chip on.
Don't understand why When I set the sound to Vibrate. Bejewed still plays sound. It's Cool though

I accidentally started the Voice dialler which also crashed but it's cool. GPRS Data is working :)
WPA2 Wifi cool!
Gyro Sensors working

Just a simple Hello world
It's mounted the Internal storage just fine. It's Working quite well.
Would be great if it could make me a cuppa.
If it can be tweaked to run faster this seems to be running quite fast. God knows what it's doing to the battery lifetime.

On a diam 100 i guess (diamond from france), sms, calls, wifi (provider Free witch use WPA or WPA2), 3G (Bouygues you have to put the settings (APN)) works.

If you use Wifi the power consume a lot of battery, better reboot after.

If you want to import contacts you'll find in post on Android, a mini how-to for that (the use of google sync). With that the first time you log in gmail in android you get back all your contacts.

If the phone goes in suspend mode you'll have to press power then the menu button (the home one on the phone).

Exept the battery lost with Wifi (and maybe 3G) it's quite impressive the work they made so far.

Maybe we'll have in a few days, weeks the 2.0 as it's seem the source code was released (not sure)

For those who tested it month ago you have to put android in the root of SD, no more in /tmp.

The thread [PRJ][OS]Linux and Android on HTC Diamond "NOT YET WORKING" already has all this info in it, and it's been running for a long time.
as you can see the title still says NOT YET WORKING in relation to the features still missing.
No need to create a new thread, the title will change when it is working properly.
No GPS, Camera, battery problems, intermitant wifi and other stability problems don't warrant the title "working" yet.
They have made fantasic progress the last few months, and fingers crossed they will continue to fix all the remaining issues. There really is no need to duplicate their work here.

I didn't see in the first place that their project was already working because they said NOT YET WORKING so that's why I posted here. They should improve their first post because I had better time finding android for blackstone working on diamond than simply on their post :/
Please provide the link for their last release I would be greatfull!!

the script for Haret is the startup.txt, you can find him in ./Startups/diamond.txt; put it in root next to haret.exe and rename diamond.txt to startup.txt

Has anyone got any tweaks for making the battery life longer. And don't say "Yeah use WM"
When the screen goeg blank. this still drains the battery too quickly.
I managed to connect to wifi.
Camera, GPS and battery consumption needs fixing then this would be a viable choice for a mobile operating system.

Go to Settings, yesterday I found there a nice thing like Battery consumption, you can see what app/service is draining your battery.

Hi guys, was just having a read about this. I'm certainly not brave enough to try this just yet but i note a few of you are struggling with stability. Could this be down to a lack of RAM? Especially as my Diamond is not exactly brimming with it. Anyway, i was looking through these pages and came across this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408651 It's getting on a bit but it's a WM6.1 with TF3D that can be uninstalled. Had a bash, uninstalled Touchflo and put PointUI in. After messing about for an hour i ran CleanRAM on full purge and only recovered 2.1Mb but had a Whopping 49.8Mb free RAM. Might it be worth a look? Surely running Android it's hardly like you need TF3D stealing all your memory. Just food for thought.

There are better cooked roms that only take up 30% of the available RAM. I managed to happily run Android albeit a little sluggish with only 20% of my ram available. I'm not sure what happens to the active windows mobile OS though. However it's only for testing. If you decided to run it as a full OS you would need it to boot into that OS.

Yep, but did you check how many pages that thread contains???

Is it logical to think someone might even read all pages? And the thread is full of same questions, repeatedly asked jumping 30-50 pages...

That might be the discussion thread, but there should be some place to get the results of that discussion in a consolidated manner.

Not everyone here is a developer, I for myself don't understand the devs/hacks etc. But I can
a) Read and learn, if it's provided in an understandable way and reasonable size
b) Test and review, and give feedback if requested.

So, shall I still struggle to read all there's written on the "NOT WORKING" thread?

I've lost my volume bottons in WM, and I don't want to do a hard reset, but it seems there is no other fix for that.

They are saying this:

WARNING!!!! SOMEONE (ME ALSO) LOST THE USE OF VOLUME BOTTONS AND CAMERA IN WINDOWS MOBILE AFTER TESTING THIS ANDROID VERSION, THE ONLY WAY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM IS A HARD RESET, SINCE WE ARE STILL TRYING TO FIX THIS KIND OF PROBLEMS I SUGGEST YOU TO TRY IT ONLY IF YOU ARE READY TO A POSSIBLE HARD RESET!!!

if you have the pin disabled and you still get the message it is probably from using the files that the OP inlcuded in the first post. you have to use the ones from the thread he listed in the first post so it can set itself up for YOUR device.

Maybe a modo can lock this thread because it is non sense to have a thread saying 'It works' , in fact it does not works, no gps, no camera.....

And we already have an 'offcial' thread in this section about Android and Diamond !

it is just booting and no more fonctionnality than the other thread.

Define "working"......
If by that you mean no bug at all then most software won't "work".
Else if you mean working= have access to all available hardware functionnality then IPod Touch/Phone is a joke too.
If like me you mean working= can boot properly and be stable and able to play around then yeah it works. Yeah camera and GPS don't work but I don't care I've said it in OP. If you don't want to use it don't use it, be my guest.

I think that Radio installed on the device can make a big difference in the way Android behaves on Diamond. Can anyone confirm that ? And if so can the users who have positive experiences with this Android build can post what radio are using ?

Hi,

I tested the stuff on a HTC Diamond.

Works pretty good.
I managed to configure internet conectivity via Vodafone. Browsing worked via default browser. Mail was also ok.
WiFi detected some networks, but not all networks in the area.

SMS works, call work. General system feeling was good. No lags or delays.

Problem (s):
As far as I saw, my home butoon was mapped to the menu button.
In the AP screen, if was quite difficult to show the "New Ap" dialog. Long press, short press.. It finally apeared but it took some tries.

Also, in the home screen pressing that key seemed to focus the lower arrow of the menu. It also took some tries to get the menu with the settings to be displayed.

Anyway.. great job!

New issues, some sms happen sometime to not properly receive.

BTW, some may have serious hardware problem after that, plz use the MTTY method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540290) to flash again your ROM and it should be just fine.
New kernel on the way, let's hope they will soon have the 2.0 cooking :)

Hi all. my first post here.
I've been playing aroung with Android 1.6 for a couple of days on my Diamond. and manged to get it working pretty good. Even SMS, 3G/HSDPA, WIFI and all the stuff.

Even got a Android marked login in, and downloaded NeoCore. a 3D benchmark program for android.

If im right, it uses the 3D hardware accelrator of the Diamond, as the graphics is bilinaery filtered, and runs pretty smooth at 640x480 woth 18fps.
Really Cool stuff.

Hope they solve the Battery drain isuue though, so i can use this for my personal phone OS. instead of just playing around :-)

Great work to all involved.

Hi.
I have found the following way, to increase the battery life.

Put Android in Flightmode.
Long press End call, press flight mode.

When the phone is done going to flight mode.

Put the phone on standby/ilde/sleep.
long press End call, when the menu pops up, short press End Call button.
OR. press Menu/home key, and when menu pops up, press End Call button.

To bring it out of standby/ilde/sleep. Dobbel press Menu/Home.

This way the phone don't heat up, and the battery will last alot longer.

Yeah battery drain is a big issue they are working on it. The burning Diamond is from wifi/GPRS/GSM issue imo... had the same problem the first night too, my phone was fully charged the evening then the morning after it was very hot and almost no battery.

I recommend to format with MTTY if you have any problem on windows after using android :)

Hi Guys

Came across a working version of Android 2.0 over at Connect-untouchables (http://connect-utb.com/index.php?option=com_rokdownloads&view=file&Itemid=68&id=84:android-2) posted by Edvard.

This port is almost fully functional and is almost ready for daily use.

Working:
-Touchscreen:
-Vibration:
-Capacitive Buttons and Navigation wheel
-Keyboard
-Radio
-Brightness Control: via power mangement widget) Must turn off autolight in WinMo
-sms sending and recieving
-GPRS (thanks Phhusson )
-Lights and Proximity sensor added ( Phhusson )
-Front Speaker works ( Phhusson )
-Microphone works ( Phhusson )
-Wifi- ( phhusson )
-Charging (phhusson )
-Market
-Sound
-Gsensor
-deep sleep (power management)
-ramswap for extra 20mb

Not Working:
-Bluetooth
-Camera
-GPS
-opengles: using software rendering for the time being.

Removed
-light sensor
-Proximity sensor

Been successfully using it for the past 5 hours and cant say I have any complaints apart from the inability to use the mentioned features. At first there was a lag in running programs, however things seemed to improve with time.

Other than that, the only major hiccup was battery drain and getting hot whilst charging, however USB charging works out of the box unlike tested 1.6 OS's and obviously the improved UI.

I have tested the latest zimage file and modules posted at htc-msm-android (http://glemsom.anapnea.net/android/htc-msm-android/) and have no joy with the mic, though there is intermitted wifi issues, best bet is to use the original files from connect utb (http://connect-utb.com/index.php?option=com_rokdownloads&view=file&Itemid=68&id=84:android-2) (only problem is no GPS, camera or bluetooth) and test the newer zImage and modules occasionally.

Coincidentally, I am using diam200 device and have the problem inverted hardware key functions, which wasnt resolved eventhough I added 'board-htcraphael-navi.inversion=1' to the startup file.
fixed: sorted finally :)

changing the lcd density to 200 in startup txt has also improved the dialpad layout.

Now just need better battery performance and the few bits mentioned above and I wont mind using android from time to time.

One other thing, cant seem to disable the sound when tapping the android keyboard, never had this problem on Android 1.6??
fixed: setting option unnoticed b4

reboot back in winmo either by hitting the soft reset key or holding down the hang up key and powering off.

....ain't working for me bro...media\audio\ringtones...still 'SILENT', so is the case with wallpapers and notification rings. Android can't access the media folder? the dial pad and music page are truncated not properly adjusted for our screens yet!

you should be able to update the ringtones etc via the settings page Settings\Sounds and Dsiplay -> just ensure that you havent the sound turned off, first option.

Regarding the resolution of the dialpad etc, that could be related to the startup txt in your root folder, mine looks as follows and all is well, pay close attention to the lcd density entry!

set ramsize 0x08000000
set mtype 1805
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set cmdline "msmts_calib=115.105.863.911 msmvkeyb_toggle=off mddi.width=320 mddi.height=480 lcd.density=210 board-htcraphael-navi.inversion=1"

oh sorry i forgot to mention that, I thought this was already solved since 1.6
In 1.6 the pincode was always wrong so we had to disable it in WinMo before going to Android.

For others who want to configure their APN, look at your operators web site they should have configs for Android phones like HTC Magic or whatever.
Don't forget to NOT enable the airplane mode. If you still have problem try activating your 3G connection in WinMo then go into Android mode.

GPRS - i am not sure if i have the right settings, i am from India, Banaglore and this is what i have :

Name - Vodafone mobile connect
Please let me know if the settings are right anad what do i need to do for WIFI?

Wifi only works if its WPA/WPA2 encryption, anything else wont work, as for your router rebooting no ideas there.

Regarding the GPRS issue you may want to check other threads out, however before booting into android ensure you have a gprs conection in WinMo. When in Android, check settings to see if anything is there:- settings\wireless and networks\mobile networks\Access points names, if there is nothing there, via the menu option manually add the details you mentioned and see if it works...

if your router reboots, you have a problem with it... not the phone. Or you found a vulnerability that allow a denial of service from remote access XD I doubt it, try updating your router firmware. Does it do the same thing from WinMo? look at your router's log

its not a stupid question, just format once in fat32 then you can put your files (android + whatever other files you need).
just in case, dont mess up with files with names like modules-03453894.tar.gz lol.for more safety, put your files in folders, avoid root.

Hello. It worked fine for me !!!!

But first I had to format the internal storage (in Windows Mobile, Settings, System, Clear Storage, Format internal storage only).

Then I follow all the instructions at the beginning of the post and everything is OK.

WiFi working with no problems (no needed to add MAC on STARTUP.txt).
Vodafone Live WAP (GPRS, Spain) working perfect just only filling these:

Name: Vodafone live!
APN: airtel.wap
User name: wap@wap
Password: wap125

But the problem is that I cant turn off the connection (it has all the time the green light on) so I create
a "false" APN so that when I choose this false APN the real one turns off.

For Music files, I use Meridian and it recognizes all my MP3s and M4As on my Music (SD root) folder and subfolders.
The problem is that it doesn´t recognizes files with names that have accents or extrange characters like "ñ", "Ç", etc.

Contacts: I imported them from an only vCard file (well, I am a MAC user, so I had my Address Book synchronized with my Windows Mobile HTC and my Gmail account; so I only needed to export my contacts as an vCard file from the MAC Address Book. Then I put that file in the HTC SD card and in imported that file from Android).

Questions/Problems:

1. I don't know how to use my HTC headphones. They don´t work. When I plug in the
mini USB, still sounds only the internal speaker.

2. It is possible to use the FM player (not WI-FI radio player)?

3. USB conection to PC/MAC not working

Congratulations, and thank you for the post.
I really like Android, it works very smoothly (comparing with the ..... WM),
very easy and clear to use. I see a great future to this system in our Diamonds.

The files I'm using (connect-utb): http://connect-utb.com/index.php?option=com_rokdownloads&view=file&Itemid=68&id=84:android-2
And the updated builds from the link upthere. (glemsom.anapnea.net)
IMHO using a mirror of a mirror is a really bad idea. Not even mentioning that this site points to an outdated version.

b) get latest zImage here:
Pretty useless as this is often broken. If zImage and moduels are packaged with the android build with babijoee's build it's because they are not often usabel.
--rename the zImage.00000000 (figures as the build date) in "zImage" (without quotes).
You'd better edit startup.txt to change the zImage used, so that you will be able to use again an older one if this one breaks something.

-- leave the modules-2.6.27-00710-g485083e.tar you have just extracted with the same name.
Wrong. It's modules-2.6.27-xxxxx-aaaaaaa.tar.gz
e) delete the data.img file if you have one.
Useless most of the time.

-Enabled the GPRS Connection (it works for me without this step but sometime not)
-disabled the airplane mode (if you activated the GPRS you should't be in this mode ^^
As said earlier, there should be no such problems. If there are some, please report !

Format your internal storage once in fat32, you don't need to format it every time you change between build.
Totally useless too.

Wifi only works if its WPA/WPA2 encryption, anything else wont work, as for your router rebooting no ideas there.

That's why I use open wifi networks we used.
No seriously, if it doesn't work on last release, i'm sure at more than 95% that's it's not a problem with android, but with your configuration.

Regarding the GPRS issue you may want to check other threads out, however before booting into android ensure you have a gprs conection in WinMo.
Totally useless. To prevent the system from crashing randomly at startup, I always run haret when wimo is in airplane mode, and it works just well.

But the problem is that I cant turn off the connection (it has all the time the green light on) so I create
a "false" APN so that when I choose this false APN the real one turns off.
There is a widget which does that, toggle data, available from the market.

1. I don't know how to use my HTC headphones. They don´t work. When I plug in the
mini USB, still sounds only the internal speaker.

Use donut with toggle headset2 widget, or add snd.force_headset=1 to the cmdline in startup.

2. It is possible to use the FM player (not WI-FI radio player)?

Not yet.

3. USB conection to PC/MAC not working

At this stage, Android is still under BETA..so you will not have everything that you will for. Windows is a Stable platform so therfore it runs great..i guess we will have to stick around much longer than expected to run android properly on our phones....

As for windows that is your default OS so it will come whenever you reset your phone.

Nope, When You run Haret, You only run new OS core and WM is still loaded.
But there is no other way to switch to WM than restarting Your phone.

So You are still running 2 OS at same time. Thats why battery comsuption is so big. And there is no way how to run Android as Your primary OS.

At this stage it is not replacement of Your OS but only a demo version.

as i understood the haret thing, it completely kicks windows out of the ram and takes full control over the device. so it does not run in any kind of virtual machine or hyperviser.

how else should android be able to turn on wifi or to access the devices? the android/linux commands must reach the real hardware. the only virtual machine i know of, which runs n windows mobile is bochs. and it is very slow.

but i may be wrong but i think i am not^^

Hi guys.

I have big problem with haret.

At first - I've read three times every point of tutorial how to run, secondly i try also three times and every time i have the same effect. (yes, i've format to fat32, tryied with diffrent packs etc)

When i click in haret icon in internal storage I don't see normal haret window like this (i know that this is kaiser, no diamond ;) )

But only boot meter bar. after it, i don't see hundreds off text code lines, but screen freeze, on the left side i see very very very small bar in diffrent colors.

i pictured it :p

Just discovered this thread today, it contains outdated files which have been mirror by connect-utb from my build over at the Raphael forums. I suggest linking to my thread or linking the latest files and updates from my thread as it will surely solves most of the problems people are having here.
I do believe its a good idea to have a diamond thread though so we can threads alot cleaner.
Overall good work with helping other members with Android. :)

Not necessary to format but recommended, if you experience problems with being able to turn on sound for ringtones, a format is necessary, if all works fine, then no need to format the card.

There has been a Light ROM released over in the Raphael forum to facilitate a fast boot to Android, that thought had crossed my mind earlier, but then again what is I wanted to get back to WinMo.

Instead of going through the hassle of flashing another ROM, I simply created a shortcut to HaRET in windows startup folder and set up the device to act as a disc drive in USB to PC connectivity. So when the device is booted, it starts winMo then boots Android automatically, no intervention on my part, then if I wanted to revert to WinMo, just reset the device and connect to a PC hindering the launching of HaRET...

Any thoughts

Hi.

THX TecHunter, i wiped all of my storage (witch was FAT32), format to FAT (not fat32), reformat once again and everything work this time correctly (i don't know wy it help - but help).

Some opinions about this production (from G1 user sigh-view (look-view? i don't know how is it in english))...

Disadvantages (IMO of course)
1. SLOW, slow^2. But keep going.
2. Battery live-time is critical - only two hours (when i talk three or four times by 5 minutes)
3. PIN code required - some sim cards in poland has blocked pin off/on switching, it's terribling - i can't use it with my main card, only with third "fun card with some MB's packages".

Positive
1. 2.1 look - this push me to think about danger SPL in my G1 for use coocked 2.X roms :)
2. Everything works (better or worse but works) - big beer for it :p If not battery short life-time it will be main system in my Diamond.

So... keep going nice job, you do it great.
Everything looks better since my last time when i was emulating android on HTC Elfin.

i'll have "an eye" for this project :)

thx a lot for helping.

First a BIG THANKS to TecHunter for a very nice guide which helped me set up and run Android in my Diamond in only minutes :)

I did not format my 4 Gig Internal Storage in my Diamond and everything that's supposed to work still seems to work fine...

It was a big surprise to see how good everything works on my Diamond. I've also downloaded a few really really good games from the Android market with nice graphics and performance... We need games like these for WM!!! The browser though was barely useable imo since the scrolling was very jerky, also sometimes there were major stuttering when scrolling in menus in the Android UI, but when it worked well it was quite smooth (although I wish it could've been slightly smoother)...

To sum it up it was a pleasant experience though I still prefer running wm with tf3d until the scrolling in menus runs better and it doesn't suck up all the battery juice in almost no time :)

Works surprisingly well. Battery life is tragically low. Booted into it on full battery at around 9 in the morning and it was pleading for a charger by half 10...

Cant wait for the GPS and camera drivers to be fixed. Huge potential for being a WinMo replacement.

Also, is there anyway to get HTC Scenes like on the Hero?? Probably would be a bit laggy like Sense 2.5 I imagine but it would look nice. ^^

Using the zImage from a few days back and everything runs fairly smoothly, apart from the erratic battery. Actually got me thinking about jumping ship to the Nexus One. ANDROID is not yet fully optimised for power management so you will experience shortened battery life at present, anyway advances are being made, and little steps like deactivating unnecessary apps, wifi, gtalk, backlite are the best means to combact this issue at present!

Have not followed "Android on Diamond" problem almost for a year (got a HTC Magic/G2) and just tested stuff presented in first post... VERY IMPRESSIVE - Phone, WiFi, Camera, Orientation sensor - and pretty fast too.

I can directly compare to same OS running on Magic hardware - and I'm very impressed, everybody involved have done fantastic job.

And looks like I'd definitely prefer this over (just tried too) WinMo 6.5 clean... Keep up the good work!..

WOW!!! I've just updated the zimage to the one here: http://zimages.googlecode.com/svn/autobuild_system/htc-msm-android/zImage-modules-20100116_163203.tar

An incredible performance improvement!!!

Everything is very smooth and nice :) Actually I think it's even faster than SPB Mobile Shell... Now if only the camera would work and slightly better battery life, I would use this as my main OS on my Diamond and that says a lot since I prefer performance over eye candy!!!

But this android ui is so beautiful! I've noticed everything is so high contrast nice looking and all. When restarting my phone and booting into windows everything looks dull and boring again...

I have tons of windows related files and folders in my Internal Storage and I haven't formatted even once and still everything works great!!! :)

My only concern is if there's any risk that android might overwrite some windows files or folders while running?

do we have any update on the Battery Drainage problem?

owziee
18th January 2010, 04:02 PM
The battery drainage seems a bit less now but on the other hand I turned wifi off after downloading a few apps and games from the android market...

Also the phone doesn't run very hot anymore, which is very nice... I noticed the youtube app now plays smooth video too...

One thing that annoys me though is that I need to press harder on the screen when I'm in Android... In windows I've adjusted the pressure threshold to 240 if I remember correctly and I just need to press very very gently to get response, isn't there a way to adjust this in Android??? I guess it's harder since there's no registry in Android if I'm correct??

Also I need to ask this question again since it worries me all the time when I'm running android... Is there a posibility android will suddenly overwrite files and stuff in my Internal Storage, since I have a lot of windows files and apps and other important stuff there, I've never formatted the 4 Gig internal storage, androind still runs completely fine...

Almost feels like I'm spamming here :)

I have another question... While adding photos from the gallery to contacts I get an error message when I press done/apply it. Why?
Would be nice to have pictures of my friends in the phonebook.

Any workaround?

***EDIT*** Nevermind, a softreset and launching Android again solved it... Now I can add photos :)

try playing some music then seeing if you are able to select any ringtones, and for some strange reason the no meda folder string is in the dialogue all the time.

I read somewhere that some special characters may stop the indexing service of android. Causing that, Android thinks there wouldn't be any music files on the storage. I found somewhere a tool, someone has written, showing all files and folders with this special characters. Because all such files and folders where in my music folder i deleted it and copied only some tracks with normal letters and no special characters in their names and well android could finally find all ringtones and these music tracks.

Now a do have some questions.
I successfully "install" one of this zimage of android. It is working, with some bugs like you all have metoned in this topic. But this is still some king of simulation of android, right? Becouse when i soft reset i get into this crapy windows enviorment. So what am i missing? Is there any way to completly run over windows iwth andorid (Linux)? Does this means than after i run Haret to lunch andorid, that from behind there is still windows who is encharge of all funkcions?

Just follow the II/

Prerequisite: create a dir name (for example) eclair_fs.

a) get the build package here:
Quoting this post (again its the main post for the Raphael/Blackstone/DIamond):
Quote:
16.01.10: NEW* UPDATED BUILD
http://htcandroid.xland.cz/XDANDROID.16.01.10.7z
Note: Already bundled with latest zImage and modules. Made it as easy as possible. enjoy
extract all in eclair_fs/ on your hard drive

b) get the zImage here:

(autobuild files, thx for posting this!)
you should have something like zImage-modules-DATE_VER.tar
--go to eclair_fs/ and delete the modules-2.6.27-00330-f485082e.tar (name differ with version) and the "zImage" files.
--untar (with winrar or whatever) in your eclair_fs/ the two files.
--rename the zImage.00000000 (figures as the build date) in "zImage" (without quotes).
-- leave the modules-2.6.27-00710-g485083e.tar you have just extracted with the same name.

c) go to eclair_fs/startup-configs and make sure you have a DIAM100.txt.
*if YES then delete eclair_fs/startup.txt and copy+rename the eclair_fs/startup-configs/DIAM100.txt to eclair_fs/startup.txt.
*if NO then google another package (the one from connect-utb should have one).

d) optional: make your changes in startup.txt

e) delete the data.img file if you have one.

f) now your eclair_fs should look like this:

g) upload at your formatted Internal storage on your diamond TO THE ROOT (without your subfolder eclair_fs)

As for Startup.txt, try to get the DIAM300 startup file. I don't know if someone has it at XDA, I personnaly uploaded for DIAM100 and DIAM200 but not DIAM300.

someone tell me why some apps when i put it on androidapps folder doesnt work at all like asphalt 3
no answer !!:(
Could it be that the app you are trying to install is not compatible with your version of android?? Anyway, you could try activating the compatibility mode in the spare parts application, and please it could be that your question was overlooked!!

XDANDROID from 24.01.2010 problems:

2#Wifi on/off=the phone freezes

1) Market: there is a solution for this
WORKAROUND: put 3 googletalk (TalkProvider.apk Talk.apk gtalkservice.apk) files from AndroidApps\Core in AndroidApps

2) Try different zimage

Edit: when I go to Android system info I can see in Dashboard- battery at 57%, but at system tab is battery at 62%, not even the battery meter in android is wierd, but even whole system detects battery in many ways

there will always be major battery consumption issues for 3 customers as they are mainly using 3G connections apart from when roaming in areas of poor 3 reception

Android does not boot on my device. It says "failed to find system.img on sdcard".Though a system.sqsh file is present in internal storage.I renamed it to system.img then too it fails with same error message.

Hi I had the same problem fix this issue by backing up files from you internal memory and formating internal memory to Fat32, this is a problem caused by not formatted correct. Hope this helps :)

iam using xdandroid (currently latest eclair) for about 2 months as main system for daily use (using this winmo rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623048 just for boot android) and it's pretty stable for me
everything works except gps, camera and bt which i don't use.
iam updating kernel+modules once a day for testing new features and to reprair minor bugs.
only problem iam facing is battery drain, i temporarily solved that by buying 1900mAh battery from ebay and my diamond lasts whole day without charging and with normal use (24/7 sync enabled, calls, internet and sometimes games)
of course, if you want android, it's always better to buy some android-native phone

Weird thing just happened. I've been using Eclair since december and updates the zimage regularly with no problem.

A few days ago I decided to update the package. but before updating, I decided to format (FAT32) my internal storage using my PC running on Windows 7. afterwhich I couldn't run Android anymore! It's stuck on the Linux screen saying something like "...SD card... cannot continue... cannot access tty..." WTF! :O

I've tried several times to no avail. I decided to go back to old "working" package and zimage, but still a no go. :(

I've also tried formatting my internal storage using another PC with Windows XP, still the same problem.

Anybody can help?
