Android without having to run it in WM?

I wanted to ask, if there is an Android version that is running without haret.exe. Cause Android is flying and since the WiFi works it really kicks ass. And it will be even faster without having WM running in the background. Isn't it possible to like extract the Bootloader from the Hero or G1?

The developers stated they prefer to concentrate on a near feature complete build with squashfs as it is. Only if that works (progress in the recent time has been really good) a more permanent solution will be investigated.
