ELF/ELFin UI Optimization
Our Elves aren't getting faster, and each day, system builds and apps are getting nicer, but bigger. This thread is to take some system image files, put them on a diet, reducing file sizes, and gaining a faster user interface. Using S.V.I's technique and some graphic design knowledge, I have been able to shrink most files considerably, decreasing load speeds and increasing responsiveness.

Notes:
ELFin HD2 Theme
• Theme is lighter than stock M2D, even with the full screen weather effects. Running 2mb less in RAM.
• For best results, install over a clean Manila 2D (stock theme).
• I am runnning 250mhz and this theme, the ELFin is just what it should be.
• For complete look, try Livven black theme, and add from custom pack: Plain Taskbar and Softkeys.
Footprints
• Fix transparency issues
• Tighten bitmap depths and grayscales

Waiting for the Comm Manager {Op*}
Thanks
Graphic Designer friend of mine who knows nothing about Phones told me as I was asking for imaging tips....."if the images are black, white or grayscale, don't save them as color (RGB or CMYK), it'll save you a heap of file size"
So I'm gonna put the Comm Manager on another diet after work :D
Paul_Days

Uploaded the Op* Comm Manager, it's as light as it gets.
Since my Mac does'nt do .cabs....can someone make a .cab out of it.
Also, on that note, could somebody extract the HTC Ez Input 2.1 keyboard, I use it, and it's a resource hog, and at 8mb .cab, it is not a light keyboard either.

Not neccesarily, just copy all the files to the /Windows directory. Don't forget to disable TouchFlo from the Today settings.

But if I install your commManager over the one that's already cooked it will not make it smaller, since it cannot replace it ?

Yes it will, untick Touchflo, and copy it, i suggest using Total Commander. It will overwrite the larger files.

Ok will try it :) BTW I don't have touchflo ;)
Edit: I can't unzip your file - d/l twice I get syntax message

Hey Paul
Thanks for the optimisation, anyway Paul, i also one of fans of Onyx, and i use the R7, it is been 3 days i use m2d on it. i feel after i install m2d on Onyx R7, the battery life of my BlackyTouchElfin quite decreased rather than while i am using Titanium only. Do you feel the same way on your elfin? is there anyway to save the battery life although m2d running inside the OnyxR7?
thanks and keep on improving Bro!

Can you please attach the optimized communication manager in this thread?
Thanx.

Tonight I will check the link, and will upload some goodies...been waiting for someone to sell me the Ez Input files, was able to save huge file sizing there. Also been working, albeit slowly, on a nice HD2 theme for those who have the WAlien optimized GFX Manila (like I do).

Nope, it's similar, but just wait. It's set me back a bit, optimizing bmp's isnt as simple as I thought it would be. Messing around with grayscales and color depths, etc. Just be patient, it's hundreds of files, literally. I've had to take steps back a lot.
This and perhaps the footprints and some wallpapers (very light) will be my last work. I'm getting a HTC Tattoo once a comision is paid. I'll keep the ELFin, as a secondary "minutes" phone. But, will go out with a nice bang.

This is just a theme...you need to sort out your device and install all the M2D 2.0 files...with all the geo localization files, or with the Manila Home Weather Updater patch thats around. I have gone for the second option. I will actually update my Manila 2D v2.0 thread and include directions on how to use the patch.
You first need to set the weather, THEN install the patch. Reboot recommended.

I thought that the core was missing but i didn't know where to find it 'cause i didn't know what were the program. However now it works perfectly and it's very nice, i suggest you to write in the first post that MHWU is needed. Thanks for the theme :D

It'll work either way, I used to use the Geo Localization files, but since I'm always in the quest to run the fastest M2D. Plus MHWU tends to be a pain if you modify M2D, it cause M2D to not launch.
Enjoy...

@ paul, which rom you can recommend using this theme? i want a clean and lots of space because im only using the ELF :(
Personally, I'm a fan of Onyx, just because it's the right balance for me: it might now be the lightest, but it's not the heaviest, it has most of the apps I use, and most other ROMs for me, i need to install tons of stuff ranging from Connection Wizards to fonts.
You might want to try one of Onyx's lite ROMs and maybe do some of my optimizations to save space and RAM. Jerpelea's ROM is also a very good ROM, it runs real fast, Either that, or I remember seeing several clean ROMs. It'll take you some time to install and make your phone how you like it. I tested just about every ROM in the forum. Being a MAC user, I cant cook my own ROM, and I'm moving to Android soon anyways. Just get a backup program to make it easier when you swap ROMs.
Several other tips: I don't use the People, Music or Programs Tab. I use PhonEx for People/Contacts, don't really use my ELFin for Music, and i don't bother using the Programs tab cause the WM6.5 Start menu is great. I do have a Tools, Media and Communications folder in the Start Menu to sort things out. Also, tweak your Pagepool, and what you can, store on your card, use Advanced Config to reduce or even remove some cache stores.
Hope this helps,
Paul

Yes, I had that too, but haven't gotten around to it, I did a small fix in RegEdit and deleted one of the two. I'll post when I find the problem in the xml file.
