How do you get it work?
All I can find is APN name wap.mic1.com.lb
Proxy, Port 80 and username/password
Did you changed any other parameters?

No, not at all. But you know there is a kind of bug with the data connection; i.e. if you're not constantly connected, you need to reboot to be able to re-connect. Maybe that's your problem.

I was in Beirut for a few weeks in Febuary and I had absolutely no luck getting Alfa GPRS to work on the N1. I just gave up eventually and haunted places with wifi when I needed my data fix.

This is the Email reply I got from Alfa:

Dear alfa user

Thank you for your e-mail. Please be informed that the wap service is not compatible with your mobile phone. However, you may activate the GPRS service only in case you have an alfa classic line. You may also find below the different GPRS offers:

Formula 1: 50 Mb package for 10$/month or 15,075LBP/month
Formula 2: 120 Mb package for 15$/month or 22,613LBP/month
Formula 3: 250 Mb package for 25$/month or 37,688LBP/month

I don't want to turn my prepaid line into fixed one and pay 30$ more just for that
I am pretty sure there is a way to make it work like they did on iphone...

Could Alfa block android platform via proxy on purpose?

I think this APN is for GPRS and not WAP, I tried with the WAP and it's not working

From two days ago i called 111 and they said that all HTC models are working with wap connection, so i have bought an HTC Desire. After several hours in configuration i have no luck, so i called again 111 and they said "NO" it will not work. I'm now verry angry because i bought the Desire apon their confirmation that Wap will work on it.

vegetaleb
7th July 2010, 12:22 PM
I think the problem is like on iphone, the User Agent used by the browser is not compatible with Lebanese WAP.
So far I know that it needs a WAP 2.0 UA to work.
I am actually working on patching the browser's UA file with a sony-ericsson C905 UA string so Alfa will be fooled and data to work, though I can't promise it will work

ahmad_k
7th July 2010, 05:11 PM
Even i can not see the "G" Letter. I got connection failed in settings. I see that some users got "Access denied" in the browser, but for me there is no connection at all

ahmad_k
7th July 2010, 05:45 PM
Does the "G" letter show om the top screen ? And what are the settings you have used to got "Access Denied" in the browser ?

vegetaleb
8th July 2010, 09:01 AM
It depends on the region, I can get G or E.
About the UA trick I think I am very close, since I changed the string I don't get ''Access Denied'' anymore so it needs a little correction and it should work. On iphone it was worse because they don't only have to force the UA to be WAP compatible but they had missing settings so N1 should be easier to use with wap

ahmad_k
8th July 2010, 07:45 PM
What make me so angry is that WAP connection is working very good on Xperia X10 with the same configuration that give us "Access Denied". if you call 111 and tell them you have an X10 they will send an SMS that contains the configuration for the WAP.

5 people confirmed that WAP is working on X10. Please stay in touch with any news about faking UAgent

ahmad_k
8th July 2010, 07:59 PM
Well i called them right now again, and the employee say that Nexus one is working on wap, but you need to change MNC to "3" instead of "1". but the APN is deleting itself when i change it :S

vegetaleb
8th July 2010, 11:18 PM
I tried mnc 03 too but APN vanish!
I asked Cyanogen team to include the APN with mnc 03 integrated in their next ROM,perhaps in forcing the N1 to use it with Lebanese sim card it will work.
Sinon I will try to use the X10 UA on N1,it will be the closest one,I always loved SE but the X10 has 2 hardware problems: too big and limited to OS 1.6.
This is without talking about the lack of custom roms

9th July 2010, 01:57 PM
Finally the main office call me, and i told them the problem. After that they said MNC must be 3 or the WAP will not works. I told them how MNC must be 3 and it is locked in the SIM card with the number "1", Finally the employee said that i have to go to main office in beirut and they will solve the problem. But right now i cannot because i live in tripoli and i'm so busy to go to beirut.

you can go and ask them to fix it and please reply if you have any news. They said also that almost all Android Handset have the same problem in lebanon. But i beleive it is a SIM card issue and not the Handset itself.

Sorry i didn't mention that i'm an ALFA user. And i think all MTC users are enjoying with WAP service on their android Handset because MTC Touch have the MOBILE NETWORK CODE MNC=3.

Hello!
I wasn't in Beirut for 5 days, I just received a call from Alfa, they will run a ''test'' live between my N1 and their network but in 10 days, they can't before because they need to find and install Android support.
I hope they will update their WAP network so Android devices are recognised,I told the Alfa girl that it could be because of mnc=03 but she said she doesn't know about it
I am afraid if I go up there I will have the same answer because she is the one who received me last time.I will try to call 111 and ask about sim card + alfa + mnc03 to see if it exists first because 7asab internet Alfa is 01 and mtc 03

ahmad_k
12th July 2010, 07:22 PM
ALFA got hundred of call about android system for the wap service, so i think they will fix this. I hope they will find the way when they do the test.

Please report back when they do the test.

ahmad_k
13th July 2010, 12:51 PM

It has been 20 days and still no calls from Alfa!
I dont remember the name of the lady to call her back and tell them how much they s*cks
It's clearly a problem of User Agent because the message ''access denied'' means the OS UA is not recognised, and nobody in XDA want to tell me how to edit it with N1, I tried old tutorial from G1 and Hero but it's obvious that system files for UA changed

well my story is different and I'm positive there is a solution. in fact after reading this thread i think that it has to do with mnc and mcc.

i used to have WM6.0 on my samsung SGH i780, and worked with WAP all the time. However, it stopped functioning as soon as I upgraded to WM6.5 (cooked ROM of course).

I called Alfa, and even visited them, to no avail!

Any clues?

EDIT

Messed up and according to this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=346417) I added values. Still not working but there's a new error message (connection stopped by remote server).

According to this thread, MNC is 03 while according to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code) it's 01.

So?

EDIT (Again)

called alfa, their MNC is 01. The error message I'm getting is "connection closed by remote server".

vegetaleb
3rd August 2010, 09:21 AM
I think all Alfa has to do is upgrading their WAP software to recognise WM6.5 and Android 1.6 to 2.2 as compatible, because in comparison the problem of iphone + lebanese WAP was the lack of settings in the iphone and their solution was to ''force'' the settings, about Android phones + lebanese WAP the problem is totally different because all the settings are here but it's Alfa's software that needs an upgrade.
The lady clearly said that they needed the Android patch to add it to their network, but as you can see they are too lazy to do it

server:
MMSC:
MMS proxy:
MMS port:
MMS protocol: 2.0

MCC: 415
MNC: 01

Authentication type: PAP
APN type :default

3- settings mobile network settings :

network mode : GSM only

4- go to your android internet explorer:

a.type on the url : about:debug

warning: without the http://www.

b.press the settings button , go more , go settings ,scroll down till you see debug

now when you get there you'll see UAstring enter there and press choose manual , type:

Does all other programs connect to WAP ? Facebook ? Weather ? News ?

And for the manual UAgent, you can edit it with Official Froyo. I have an HTC desire and i have edited the UAGENT but i want to wait until Monday to subscribe again.

vegetaleb

So I guess I will have to try a Desire Froyo to N1 Rom

vegetaleb
9th August 2010, 10:57 AM
Yey it works with r23 Desire to N1 Rom!!
Next steps:
-Do it with N1 roms like Enom and Cyanogen (unlock the Manual mode)
-Find the system file that control all the UA of the phone so other apps will work

I can't use BT nor USB with the r23 rom :(
Can you try this? :
-Create a new wordpad file and copy/paste the UA you posted
-Save as wap.xml
-Pull with adb the file in data/data/com.android.browser/shared_prefs/com.android.browser_preferences.xml
-Edit this file and replace the string ''default_UA_profile''>http://.....< with ''default_UA_profile''>sdcard/wap/wap.xml<
-Push back this new edited xml file
-Copy the file wap.xml into the folder you create ''wap'' in the sdcard of the N1

I used the Desire r23 rom for N1 with WAP for 3 days, it can connect to any website but not the ones using emails like ebuddy,facebook,hotmail,gmail...
Which is very weird because I can do it on my old SE phones, so I guess again that a main network file in the N1 system is controlling everything apart the browser in debug mode...
The question is what is this damn file??

ahmad_k
18th September 2010, 10:32 AM
Still waiting for alfa. Here in lebanon there are alot of user using android system and still alfa didn't want to add it use the same webkit iphone browser.

the only way to make android works is to add the GPRS plan to prepaid user. What do you think ?

vegetaleb
12th October 2010, 10:09 AM
Several months later the unique solution is to use a Desire Rom and change the UA string in the browser to opera or nokia string.
Still no secured websites working (ebuddy, emails, forum sign-in...) or any apps outside the stock browser.
I think the real solution is to find the network file of the N1 that configure the whole phone UA string

Great news Lebanese Android brothers and sisters :D

WAP in Lebanon works on Android now

Of course you just have to add the Alfa wap apn and it will work with your stock browser without ''access denied'' and no more debug mode tweaking :D
