Activated the GPS on demand - Android 4.4

I have an application that activated the GPS as needed, works perfect until Android 2.3.
Smartphones and update the Android version is 4.4 and does not activate the GPS only works if the user manually activate.
The problem is that users spend about 8 hours without charging the phone battery and direct GPS on the battery does not last as long as necessary.
I checked on some forums that Google block the GPS demand activation.
Does anyone know if is to enable on-demand Android 4.4 ?

As far as I know, it's not supported in newer version of Android. It too was looking for a solution to this GPS on/off thing. Had no luck. If you find solution then please share with us as well.

As mentioned above you can't access GPS on-demand anymore, what you should do instead is open up a dialog asking the user to turn on GPS - to make this easier you can make the OK button open the location settings intent to minimize the number of steps required to activate GPS.
