Towel root Google it... Install the apk and click make it rain

Update to kitkat enable installs from third party in settings go to towelroot.com download the file on your phone and install it. Run it and click make it rain. Then download moto apocalypse apk and run it to unlock your boot loader as well.

would i be able to unlock bootloader after updating to kitkat ??
thanks for your reply one more thing i would like to ask is wheather i would be able to root and unlock after i have updated to kitkat ?? i am asking this questio because sloosecannon in his thread "[How-To][tutorial] Bootloader Unlock, Custom Recovery Razr M" has said "----IMPORTANT NOTE:----
IF you are on the latest OTA and have NOT unlocked, it is impossible at this time to unlock. It may be possible in the future if someone finds another exploit, but not likely. Basically, if you updated without researching (that's why you shouldn't do that) or got a new one after the OTA"

That topic hasn't been updated in some time... As @mrkhigh said yes go ahead and update to KitKat 4.4.2 (as long as its 182/183.46.10) and root/unlock it... If you run into any issues with the ota check back in here and we'll get you the links to rsd lite and firmware...

If it seems too easy you did it right.
The entire process should take 2 minutes. That's with the phone reboot and the boot loader unlock.

where can I get the factory image for that update? It's years later and I'm desperate to get off of jellybean and get the bootloader unlocked.

Look up restoring/upgrading with rsd light

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=55282645

It's all in the first post read it all the second link on rsd has the firmware I checked...
We just achieved a new root method like yesterday, but just do things normal upgrade to .10 NOT .15 then run towelroot then motoapokalypse.apk (spelling I'm sure is wrong) if you update to .15 you most likely will never have an unlocked boot loader

Towelroot does not work on kernels newer than July of 2014...
I'm guessing you're on the .15 kernel... If that is the case use this.
