Is there a way to check whether write protection is on or off on the device itself, or do you have to run an adb command from computer? I'm pretty sure I have wp off, but just wanted to check. Unlocked (non Dev) and rooted on 4.4.4 with TWRP. Thanks in advance.

I believe if you're unlocked and rooted then you don't have to worry about write protection. It's the ones with locked bootloaders who lose write protection on this update.

That's what I thought. I was able to rename the email app to install the newest one so I figured I was good on wp being off (and xposed survives reboot). I just wanted to be sure. Thanks for the quick response!

In a terminal window, run getprop ro.boot.write_protect to find out if WP is on. It will return 1 for yes or 0 for no.

I'm kinda a newbie here so could you please tell me in a little more detail how to test for write protection on or off? ☺
Edit
I have a Droid Maxx developer edition that is unlocked and rooted running kk 4.4.4
thanks in advance

If your bootloader is unlocked, write protection is off.
