Can't push file to /sdcard/ via TWRP 2.3.3.0

Trying to push a file to /sdcard/ after wiping system and installing a new recovery, seems i've complicated stuff

I'm just using adb push [file] /sdcard/ and it isn't showing up in recovery in any of the visible folders under root... why is this?

Push it to /data/media.
