Does flashing custom rom or kernel trip knox?

I read somewhere that flashing custom rom or custom kernel trips knox? Is this true?

Ive tried searching but couldnt find no real answer to my question.

Yes that will trip the KNOX counter...

KNOX flag will be tripped if you flash custom kernel or recovery. ROM installation may or may not trip it, depends on the ROM and how you flash it.

So what is the point of not trying to trip knox while rooting if custom roms and kernels trip knox anyways?
