The path from stock to custom on the i777:
  1. gather onto internal memory, or micro-sd:
    -Framaroot
    -Mobile Odin APK
-Mobile Odin flash kernel for i777
    -kitkat_firmware.zip
    -Boot.img (extracted from kitkat-firmware.zip)
  2. install and use framaroot
^^ uses an exploit to establish and manage root access
  3. install mobile Odin and the mobile Odin flash-kernel
^^ the method that will NOT trip the custom-flash monitor
  4. flash the boot.img via Mobile Odin
^^ flashes the kernel and recovery of the kitkat_firmware.zip, to ensure installation compatibility
^^ once flashed, you will no longer be able to boot into the stock android installation
  5. boot to recovery
  6. install kitkat_firmware.zip
  7. enjoy
-Cyril

That is correct. Whether gingerbread or jellybean, the same procedure applies to go from stock to custom (without tripping the flash counter).
