Default unable to change wallpaper for homescreen

on stock JB ROM with root, I am not able to change the static wallpaper for home screen at all no matter I chose from homescreen or from gallery method. However, I can set it by using live wallpaper . Any idea ?

PS: The home screen is in black color now, all icons/widget shown fine though

Default can someone explain ?

I just Odin the stock file . The weird thing is upon reboot the phone is back to normal with everything : old apps, settings like wifi/google accounts are still there . The only 2 things are changed is no more root and gsm/simcard locked again . Does anyone experience similarly ?

It is normal when you come back to stock. I recommend that you root your phone then use an app to unlock your device GalaxSimUnlock apk is the best for this purpose. Then install a custom kernel which contains a custom recovery like twrp is a good option, after that install a custom ROM and say goodbye to the sim unlock and the problems with set wallpapers and other things.
