This is not the relavant place to ask this question...the best way is to sync contacts with Google and restore it by syncing...

Three's a simple solution for you:
1) Open Contacts, press menu...

2) Select Import/Export option and copy all contacts to SD by selecting Export to SD.

3) That's it. You'll have all your contacts in SD.

Restoring:
1) Contacts > Menu> Import/Export> Import from SD.

Wait till all contacts get copied to phone book

Running stock gingerbread 2.3.6, failed to verify whole file signature, signature verification failed , install package = (2)
what to do now, i moved the file to internal sd card as its not readable on external sd card, help?

OP already stated this root guide for ICS/JB..
