By default, CM9 is going to use your sdcard as the main storage media and not the internal memory. In that case, your internal memory is called emmc and your sdcard is called sdcard.
When you change the options as directed in the faqs, CM9 is going to use internal memory as the storage device and your internal memory is going to be named sdcard and your sdcard is going to be named emmc.
I hope this explains it. If not, I'll try to explain it a little better.
