Stock deodexed themed slim version - 238 MB

FLASH IN CWM, NOT IN ODIN

I have created a deodexed version of the rom for my use with the following changes. You are welcome to try it till Master Darky releases his version.

  • Deodexed/Zipaligned
  • Non wipe edition ( you retain apps )
  • Slim ( removed unwanted Samsung apps )
  • Included cf-root kernel KG1
  • Included stock modem
  • Crt + Overscroll Effects + battery mod
  • Themed ( ported litepro black theme with miui status bar icons )
  • Included maps app with universal navigation
I am trying to get the extended menu working, but there are a lot of changes in android.policy.jar. So i need to learn how to get it working first.

A few screenshots.

You can download it from here.
The apps that i removed can be found here. These are just a zip of the removed apps, not flashable format.

what i noticed on my phone:

1) CPU time for Android OS is still high but less than before. KF3: 10 min/hour, KG2: 7 min/hour.
2) Battery life seems better and lost less juice during idle. KE7: 2%/hour, KF3: 1,2%/hour, KG2: 0,8%/hour
3) Finally clock position at lockscreen (wallpaper lockscreen) is back at where it should be. And now it looks in place.
4) Coming from KF3, i noticed that i can just tap the Picture Frame widget to change picture. I had to remove 1st before.
5) Feels smoother.
6) Wake up lag still present.

I'm getting H+ at work which is amazing, I've never seen the phone stay on H+ for more than half a second. I would love it if I could get a H+ signal all the time.

I don't think that should really happen,H+ should really be in that mode when needed when you transfer data. At least that was how my previous phone did work

I think that constantly in the fastest mode will drain battery

Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

So is this 100% stock and official KG2?
No darky ROM branding?
100% stock = yes
official = well.... it's leaked, but made by Samy, yeah
no darky branding = yes, it's original stock SGS2 ROM

where can i finde wipe mode is it from samfirmware.
AFAIK this hasn't made it onto samfirmware yet.
But the one in the first post of this thread, posted by Darkyy, does a full wipe on install.

That's great news.
Could you check "gradient :(banding" by opening nexus live wallpaper... Earlier it looked awful, anyone could see banding there. So even if you had not noticed it earlier you would know now either way.
Waiting for your reply.

Yeah, the banding still there. Specially the agenda widget color is a bit annoying.

Hi,
Should Heimdall 1.3 be able to flash this rom successfully?
I've extracted the .zip file, then tar'd the .md5 files up - Heimdall reports firmware.xml is missing.
Cheers

You cannot simply put an Odin package in Heimdall, you have to do it step by step: de-tar all the files ("md5" is misleading, these are plain tar files which can be de-tared), take a pit file (from samfirwmare for example), load it in the "flash" tab of Heimdall and then manually add each file (zImage for Kernel, etc: read the example of firmware.xml given in Heimdall's Readme to see which file goes where).

I think I'll try this later on (but I'll probably put back the KG1 CF-root kernel to have root easily - I don't think I want to delve into superoneclick right now).

Recalibrate your battery first before complaining about battery life since you're flashing a new ROM.

This is the new XXKG2 firmware, brought to you by our DarkyROM Crew Member robbielicious.

The firmware is based on Android 2.3.4.

    CHANGES / BUGS / NEWS
KG2 is more refined, smoother and feels like a release version. Gtalk video works. I believe what I have is the package that will be released via KIES.
No more Android OS Bug (thanks to 2.3.4)
Home button delay seems fixed (some confirm it, some not).
Many people reported, data speed has improved quite a lot - also much stabler 3G / H / H+ connection. It doesn't switch between 3G and H / H+ that much anymore.
One neat feature that Samsung have added is the ability to adjust the time limit when the screen turns off until the device is locked and requires the pin to unlock it.
Added: FM radio controls on lock screen.
CPU time for Android OS is still high but less than before. KF3: 10 min/hour, KG2: 7 min/hour.
Battery life seems better and lost less juice during idle. KE7: 2%/hour, KF3: 1,2%/hour, KG2: 0,8%/hour
Finally clock position at lockscreen (wallpaper lockscreen) is back at where it should be. And now it looks in place.
Coming from KF3, i noticed that i can just tap the Picture Frame widget to change picture. I had to remove 1st before.

Hmmm... I wonder if I flash everything but the CSC, would I retain my old CSC?

I currently have the XEU CSC from the KG1 firmware (stock and rooted). I also if this would wipe my data. I have a feeling it is a "yes" since Odin is more like a HDD imager, while CWM is more like replacing files.

To root just flash using ODIN the KG1 kernal from here: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
