I'd like to add that after 7 hours my phone chewed up an astounding 2 percentage points (63% to 61%). Here's my setup:

Background sync: Gmail, Google Contacts, Google Calendar (and nothing else)
Wifi connection at full bars (AP in the same room)
UMTS signal at about -80 dbm (850Mhz 3G band)

Yeah that's what I thought. My battery drain has always seamed a little too high.(normally just blame Vodafone network)

Root your device. Install titanium backup and freeze or remove the Vodafone stuff you dont want.

Rooting is about a 2 minute job with cf-root and Odin.

Finally bit the bullet and upgraded from stock (rooted) Optus KG1 firmware to intratechs KI8 firmware using his Optus csc file.

Have to say im liking the new upgrade. After initial charge only lost 1% charge with screen off in 2.5 hours. Network and everything else doing what they do as per normal. Previously would drain 1% to 2% per hour.

Got the firmware from here.
