1) Don't use Rom Manager on the S2 at all. Ever. It will break recovery & cause bootloop eventually.
2) Any recovery installed independent of the kernel will not be permanent & will only persist until the next reboot. Why ? Because recovery is baked into the kernel on the S2. If you really want a particular recovery version permanently, you'll have to run a kernel that has it.
If it's important enough to cause you grief if it's lost, back it up. No excuses
