I just flashing my SG 2 with ICS 4.0.3, and I want to root but I couldn't find the insecure kernel/original kernel of the rom. Please check below:

Kernel version:
3.0.15-l9100DXLP9-CL431438
dpi@DELL176#3

Build number:
IML74K.DXLP9

Looking forward to hearing from you
Thanks.

Default Requesting insecure l9100DXLP9

Odia, I would like to add my voice to hollow1's suggestion: Please prepare an insecure kernel for the l9100DXLP9.

This would allow us to use S2 Root, which I gather is one of the few rooting approaches which can be fully undone

Many thanks for all your efforts!

P.S.: I'm not sure how you go about it, but the l9100DXLP9 is available from SamMobile with this download link here.

P.P.S.: In addition to 'S2 Root' I found another interesting option for rooting / unrooting, which is:
[GUIDE] ROOT/UNROOT Stock ICS Firmware without flashing unsecure kernel. Nevertheless, my request expressed above remains

Exclamation Original Kernal

Hi,

I have successfully flashed and rooted my SGS2 using the Odin method mentioned here. During the process I have replaced my original kernal with the insecure kernal and hence the yellow "!" during boot (as expected)!

Its been many months since the root and now want to remove the yellow "!" from the boot for which I need the original kernel. But I have forgotten what was my original kernal version so was wondering if you could tell me how to find out my original kernal version.

My SGS2 is UK network independent version. Not sure if this help!

Thank so much in advance.

Khan

If anyone wants a specific kernel then request in this thread and I will make it when I have enough time. If you only want to root your device and then will flash back to the stock kernel then there is no need to request your specific version (use any version which is close to your current version), you only need to use a specific version if you want to run with the insecure kernel.

If you like my work, maybe you would like to say thanks by buying me a beer

Post was getting large, so older versions have been moved to here GT-I9100

These insecure kernels can be used with the guide here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1056334

or a quick method for rooting would be:-
Code:
adb shell mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p9 /system
adb push busybox /system/xbin/
adb push su /system/xbin/
adb shell chown root.shell /system/xbin/busybox
adb shell chown root.shell /system/xbin/su
adb shell chmod 755 /system/xbin/busybox
adb shell chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
adb shell /system/xbin/busybox --install -s /system/xbin
adb shell mount -o ro,remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p9 /system
and then install superuser.apk from market or adb install superuser.apk if you have it local.

I have now put a pack together to make the rooting more easy for user not comfortable using adb, all you need to do is make sure you have flashed an insecure kernel and the phone is connected in debug mode, then click root.cmd or unroot.cmd insecure-root-pack

I have also decided to release the XWKE7 low package, this can be used to fix most issues if your phone gets in a mess, it can be used with re-partition BUT I would suggest you only use that option if you know what you are doing, I would also suggest you DO NOT tick the option to update the phone bootloader (for now), best is to leave the options in Odin as default, unless you feel the need to re-partition.

Please DO NOT mirror any of my files, thank you.

Same as per above post (Re: Chainfire's) Hint: to find it quickly on the first page search for DX_SIN_LP9.

For original kernels, in the event you want to restore, check Paw's website .. http://www.androidfirmwares.net.
If someone helped you tell everyone by clicking "Thanks", if they didn't, hopefully they will next time around.

Though it should be noted: if folks use a CF-root kernel, then flashing that kernel will be all they need to do; that by itself will root the phone. They won't need to run S2Root or anything else, or the commands Odia describes in post 1.
I never wanted to have a signature, but it seems I must. Please do not PM me directly for technical support. I mean it! No exceptions! Thank you.

Everyone (esPECIALLY n00bs) should read this.
