I'm pretty sure I found the culprit of the excessive battery drain for at least my Verizon GS3. I'm fully stock, unrooted, and did a factory reset after the 4.4.2 update. My battery has been terrible since the first KitKat update with Google Services or Google Play services being the top user in battery stats, usually around 40-50%. KitKat brought the "OK Google" voice command feature to our phones. So now, they are constantly listening for that prompt. If you go to Google Now>Settings>Voice>"OK Google" hotword detection>turn off, you should see a marked improvement in your battery. Since yesterday, my battery has been pretty much back to normal, and Google services went from 40% battery usage to 15% as of right now. Hope this helps!

Call me a dummy, but I can't seem to find Google now. My battery is draining pretty fast and I figured Google play services was the culprit..

Related to battery drain from Google Play Services / Google Services -- Another thing I've found to drain the battery is location history. If you go into the Google location services, I leave Location Reporting on but then I turn Location History off. This seems to help a lot.
