Where and how to disable media scanner service? Thus disabling it will not cause other problem aside from related program that needs it?

Hm, I tried reformatting the SD card - no luck, still crashing. I reinstalled the swiftkey flow beta and that seems to have made it worse...

S3 jb , crashes very frequently, full reset reduced the freezing temporarly but its happening again.

I have to agree the media scanner as the culpret. Noticed the crashes re occured when I upload my huge library. I suspected many apps but I am pretty convinced its somthing to do with media.

Disable Media Scanner temporarily and tell us if the freezes keep happening.

Assuming the 'Media Storage' process is the media scanner?
I've disabled this and mine is still crashing.
Received my phone back after a second repair and it's worse than ever.

Advice to anyone in the UK is to go via Samsung, not your operator.

Just did this, hasn't fixed the freezing, have to say the second return from o2 has rendered this phone worse than ever, freezing regularly on boot up etc

Just a quick update - I did a factory reset and it's been running fine ever since yesterday around 1pm. No crashes at all and I'm slowly starting to install my apps back on. Only thing different other than doing a factory reset was that I removed my SD card prior to doing all of this. I'll chuck it back in and see what happens.

Re: **Ultimate Galaxy S3 Unusual Freezing Thread**
I disabled the media scanner again after having it enabled the past few weeks. It definitely is a power consumer but it's not the source of the problem I think. My freezes have been almost gone lately maybe due to one of the fixes I've tried but I'm not sure which. They still occur during a game that shows a cpu load on kswapd and mmcqd but only after leaving the phone in deep sleep for awhile, not after a restart.

I'm tracking this repair publicly at http://myo2repair.wordpress.com so you can check out how this sort of thing pans out.
Problem is it can be intermittent, so you could get a couple of hours without a freeze. So it's gone back to repair and they say no fault found. So a bit stuck now.
It will definitely happen again when it's returned. They say after 3 attempts they will give me a refurb device. Samsung themselves give you a brand new sealed device as a replacement. Recommend going through Samsung if in same predicament.

I had the same issue, it seemed to start when 3 weeks ago I got a small firmware update through that I wasn't expecting, I was already on 4.1.2. Anyway, I sent it back to o2 who sent it back "repaired" but was no better. I called them and said I wasn't happy with sending it for repair again so they offered me a recon, I took it (and switched to blue!) I've had no problems with this one, but I have had a notification about a 24mb firmware update that he's been downloaded, I'm reluctant to install it so the notification is annoyingly sat there permanently. Nobody at o2 had heard of this update and can't find any info on it, I'm sure it is what screwed my original s3.
I'm not rooted, stock o2 uk Rom.
