Default [HOW TO] Increase maximum volume in cm-10.1 based roms.

Hello,

To increase maximum volume in cm-10.1 roms, please navigate to

/system/etc/sound

then open using your editing application

m3

in this file look for the line
Code:
 <device name="speaker">
Then in this area look for the conrtrol
Code:
<ctl name="Speaker Volume" val="57"/>
Change the bolded number to something larger. From research I believe there may be a maximum of 63, so I would not go higher than this unless 63 is indeed still too little.

Hopefully this helps

God, how do you do that ?? I killed my device sound two times while trying !

I have the following contents in the m3 file :

-------------------
</path>
<device name="speaker">
...
...
<ctl name="Speaker Mixer Volume" val="3"/>
<ctl name="Speaker Boost Volume" val="4"/>
<ctl name="Speaker Volume" val="57"/>
-------------------

I tried to change both "speaker boost volume" and "speaker volume" to 63, but it failed everytime after reboot (no more sound at all, and DSP Manager and anyother music player such as Apollo failing) and I had to restore the original m3 file from the CM10.1 ROM zip file (20130225)..

Moreover, each time I tried to modify this file I noticed that its size decreased.. (I ensure to set the correct file rights 644 after editing with the embedded file editor)

Either I'm stupid (possible!), either there is something strange or different between your and my device ! Which file editor did you used ?

Thanks !

Oh I made a mistake it should not be Speaker Boost Volume, just Speaker Volume.

I previously had it done with ES File Explorer but now I tried it with CM File Manager and it workked fine. It must have just been my mistake in the instructions causing errors.
I apologise for this.

The system filesystem must be remounted as R/W using something like Root Explorer.

I tried to do it like you wrote it in the instructions and in your correction up there, but now there is no Sound at all neither after putting in my backup of the original file.
(running codeworx' latest CyanogenMod 10.1-20130225-UNOFFICIAL-i9305, changing with es file explorer)

Had to Flash the whole cm zip again to fix it.
Has anyone an Idea what i did wrong/forgot?

(Is it possible to answer like this? It's my first post at all in xda, I was only using the german android-hilfe before, because of my bad english.)

Only change the value on line 135 of the file. Alternatively, use the attached one.

And don't forget to restore the correct file rights : 644 / rw-r--r--

But I got the same issue, no sound at all after applying the settings modification. Strange..
