You can edit the dpi directly from the build.prop file in /system folder. You'll need a file explorer with root-access and mount the /system folder as writable. But often you will find that the Play Store will detect the changed dpi and some apps will be reported as "not compatible" with your resolution.

Alternatively, you can use PA/PAC Roms that allow you to modify dpi for the UI and for each app individually. This is very safe and prevents Play Store from being affected.

Use "Textdroider DPI" from play store, Additionally use Xposed framework and Play Store Fixes to send normal DPI to playstore so apps don't get incompatible notice.
