Default [Q] quick and safe restock using kies

I'm thinking of using KIES to restore my phone back to its unrooted fresh official state using KIES..
however i am running a custom ROM and accidentally unrooted my device using superuser's complete unroot option.
will my samsung galaxy s3 GT-i9300 die if i choose to update it through kies? in the phone status it says modified..

the thing is, is it safe to update a custom ROM through KIES?

I think KIES will not allow you to flash the rom, when it detects a phone status as modified.

Better way is to use ODIN and flash a stick firmware.
