[Q] S3 Touch Screen not responding to touch.

I have an S3 1747m on Telus network in manitoba

my touchscreen has stopped responding..

I have talked and brought the phone to telus and they

have told me i have to full factory reset my phone..

and possibly get a new screen..

it was not dropped or dipped in water..

just rooted. in 2012

all the sudden 2 days ago stopped responding..

everything else still works

i can use the volume the power and the home buttons but no touch controls..

I was able yesterday to change the volume and open the s voice prg.. but i forget how to do that now..

is there anything i can do besides the full factory reset

also before i reset i am trying to backup the phone with usb kies 3

got contacts photos and messages backed up but it seems to hang when i try backing up and media directories

if anyone has any ideas on what i should do next they would be appreciated.

i cant use titanium backup or any apps on the phone.. i have is kies for the moment

i can access the phones files thru file explorer on my pc
