So a friend wants to root his S3 and try aosp roms and I was doing some reseach on how to root. Now I've seen some different methods of root, cfroot, philz cwm touch, mskip and heimdall. I think in the past when S3 was new, I did it for my brother I used cfroot but now reading its different for 4.3.

Also reading that EFS format changed to v2 and some peeople lost their imei and had to pay to fix it. So whats the best way to back this up? My question is:

1. Quickest way to root
2. Safest way to backup efs for 4.3 roms
3. To flash 4.4.2 roms does twrp and plilz recovery work?, I know cwn does

Thanks

Install philz, backup efs, flash your aosp rom. Those roms should come prerooted.
